00:00This is the 2019 Razer Blade Pro. This is a product that's been long overdue for a refresh.
00:08It's brand new for this year, completely redesigned. It is their most expensive, their most powerful,
00:14their biggest screened gaming laptop, and it's a nice looking unit.
00:18So, I am someone that's been using the 15-inch Razer Blade Pro for the past 6-8 months as my regular daily laptop.
00:26I have been using the 2018 model, like the 10-series device, so I'm quite familiar with this thing,
00:31I'm quite familiar with this whole product lineup. I like it a lot, and I like this Razer Blade Pro as well,
00:37however, there are some things that I think you guys should be aware of if you're interested in picking this thing up.
00:42Okay, right off the bat, this is a very expensive machine. Obviously, with larger devices,
00:47you're gonna have to pay a little bit more, but it is not a cheap device.
00:51It costs a lot, but it's kind of expected considering what you're getting.
00:55So, the build of this device is very similar to the build of the 15-inch this year.
00:59It's got the same kind of design, same kind of shape, it's got the Light Up Snake logo up front,
01:04it is very much a updated Razer product.
01:07The finish, however, is something I want to talk about real briefly.
01:10As someone who's owned the 15-inch for a while, you can chip the kind of edges of this device quite easily.
01:16I take pretty good care of this device when I travel with it, and even then, I've managed to nick it a couple times,
01:21but because this is a mercury white version, it doesn't show the difference in color, like it's still white on white.
01:27If this was a black version, like if I got the black Razer Blade, when you nick it, it's just shiny metal underneath.
01:33So, I highly recommend getting a case or skin it, because when you damage a black laptop,
01:38a black aluminum laptop like this, those nicks show up heavily.
01:42Okay, this is a 17-inch laptop. It's obviously bigger and a little bit heavier than a 15-inch device,
01:48but they've done what they can to kind of keep this thing as compact as possible,
01:51but understand that it is bigger, right?
01:54Like, no matter what they do, it's still going to be a heavier device than what most people are comfortable with.
01:59This does not fit in most backpacks, unfortunately.
02:01Despite the compact nature of it, this is still a 17-inch device.
02:05Now, with that extra size, you get a few more ports.
02:08You get an Ethernet jack, you also get an extra Thunderbolt 3 port,
02:11and you also get a really fast SD card slot reader.
02:13So, if you're someone that's into photography or videography, and you use SD cards frequently,
02:18you can offload it onto this computer really quickly.
02:20The screen is 17 inches, it's big.
02:22In terms of image quality, it's actually very similar to the 15-inch panel,
02:27in terms of just, like, brightness and color accuracy.
02:29It's a great screen, and it's very fast at 144 hertz,
02:32but it's not any different from the 15-inch panel.
02:34It's just bigger.
02:35So, if you're looking for something that's, like, better image quality, they don't offer that.
02:39It's a bit of a shame.
02:40I feel like they may offer it in the future, like, they may have an OLED panel option later down the line.
02:44I'm surprised they don't offer that, because I think for a lot of people that are looking for a 17-inch panel,
02:49they also want that better image quality for higher-res workflows.
02:53Like, a 4K panel on this machine would have been nice.
02:55Okay, performance on this machine is solid.
02:58I was surprised as to how good it is.
03:00Now, it's running the latest and greatest.
03:02It's 9th Gen CPUs, RTX GPUs, both gaming and video editing is excellent on this machine.
03:08Now, this particular review unit is running a 2080 Max-Q.
03:11If I was recommending one of the GPUs as, like, my personal preference,
03:16it would probably be the RTX 2060.
03:18In terms of the value, you're getting the best value of the three options with the base model.
03:23So, performance is good, but even more impressive is the thermal performance on this device.
03:27Razer is a company that is always aimed for making these thin gaming laptops,
03:31and because of that goal, they have run into thermal issues in the past.
03:35The 15-inch device right now is very good, but the 17-inch device is on another level.
03:40And I actually ran a bunch of benchmarks, and I thought that my temperature sensors were wrong,
03:44or, like, I couldn't understand how it was so good.
03:47But this is why.
03:48When you crack it open, you can see a different kind of thermal system.
03:52So, they have their regular setup, a fan on each side with the vapor chamber.
03:56The vapor chamber is tech that we've seen in the previous generation of Razer Blade Pro,
04:00and they're using it in the 15-inch device as well, so nothing really new there.
04:03But the game-changer this year is the inclusion of an extra pair of fans at the front of the device.
04:09And these fans suck in air from the bottom of the laptop, and they blow it through the device,
04:13so across the RAM chips and across all the components.
04:16If you look at the, kind of, bottom panel of this device,
04:20they put some pads in here to direct the airflow in a very precise manner,
04:25just so they can exhaust it in this perfect way.
04:28And whatever they're doing, it's working well,
04:30because the thermal performance on this machine is so much better than I thought it would be,
04:34and just way better than any of the 17-inch devices they've had in the past.
04:38There are devices out there with lower temperatures than the Blade Pro, don't get me wrong,
04:42but to see them do it in a device this thin is what is impressive to me.
04:46And it's also their track record, right?
04:47Razer has never been known for having great thermals, and they did a really good job.
04:51Interestingly, when they first announced this product,
04:54I remember saying in my video that I was glad that Razer opted to choose just the 6-core CPU.
05:00So Intel has a more powerful chip, and they didn't offer it in their lineup at this launch.
05:05So I thought, you know, it's good that they're doing it,
05:07because they're probably going to run into thermal issues.
05:09But having seen what this thing can do, I think, this is just speculation at this point,
05:15I think that Razer would be able to put that 8-core CPU into here.
05:19Forget about, like, power consumption and stuff like that,
05:21but this cooling system seems strong enough to handle that chip.
05:24And inside here, you also have access to your two NVMe drives,
05:27your two RAM slots, as well as your Wi-Fi card.
05:29The one they include is a kick-ass Wi-Fi card, it supports Wi-Fi 6.
05:33Now, there is one problem with this cool secondary fan system.
05:38You have a very small battery.
05:41This actually has a smaller battery than the 15-inch device, which is crazy.
05:46It's a 70-watt-hour battery compared to the 80-watt-hour battery that's in the 15-inch Blade.
05:50And because of that, the battery life on this is extraordinarily short.
05:53It's a 3-hour battery life.
05:55It's actually a little bit less than 3 hours, like 2 hour 50 was what I was getting.
05:59But that's what you have, a very thin system, properly cooled, short battery life.
06:04The keyboard and the trackpad on the Razer Blade Pro are very similar,
06:08if not identical, to the one on the 15-inch model.
06:10It's got all the RGB lighting and stuff that you'd expect from Razer's Chroma.
06:14The shift key, I've mentioned this in previous videos,
06:18it's the arrangement of the keys around the shift key.
06:20Like, I often hit shift up arrow instead of shift question mark,
06:24which some people do, I'm one of them, but I'm sure it doesn't affect everyone.
06:27But the keyboard and the trackpad are both very solid.
06:30The keystrokes are a little shallow,
06:32but I think most people can get used to this keyboard pretty quickly.
06:35Speakers are improved, just a wider range in audio than the 15-inch model.
06:39They actually sound pretty good.
06:41You also get a Windows Hello camera up top, if you're interested in that.
06:44It allows you to log into your computer with facial recognition.
06:47So, if you're interested in this device,
06:49and you're trying to decide between a 15-inch model and a 17-inch model,
06:52I will say, as someone who's used the 15-inch a lot,
06:56I prefer the 15-inch, just personally, compared to the 17-inch.
07:01I feel like you do compromise, like you're losing battery life,
07:04you have to pay a little bit more, and the device is quite a bit bigger.
07:07But if you really want that big screen, this is a really nice 17-inch device.
07:13Okay, hope you guys enjoyed this video.
07:14Thumbs if you liked it, subs if you loved it.
07:16See you guys next time.
