00:00Good day motorcycling brothers and sisters, Zach Kortz here. Welcome to another episode of Daily Rider, the show where we learn about motorcycles as we ride.
00:09Our guest today is very red, very Italian. It is none other than Ducati's Streetfighter V4S.
00:17So that is an 1100cc V4 engine, just about all of the riding technology you can get on a motorcycle in 2020, and it even has wings.
00:26So today we're going to find out, can a 200hp bike even do a wheelie? One way to find out. Let's go!
00:40Yo, ready everybody? Just about ready to go here, take a peek at some of the attributes of the Ducati Streetfighter V4S.
00:49First and foremost, it's very hard to miss these winglets, which allegedly produce about 60, what is it? No, 40lbs of downforce at 168mph.
01:01I don't think we're going to go 168mph today, but there you have it, winglets on a naked streetbike.
01:07Up front you've got an Ohlins fork, electronically adjustable for damping, big Brembo calipers, 330mm rotors.
01:16This is top of the line stuff from start to finish. LED headlight, this sort of V-shape to match the Panigale shape of the headlight.
01:25Here you've got the 1103cc V4 engine from the Panigale, rated at more than 200hp.
01:38Under slung tailpipe, single sided swingarm, which gives you this nice big view of this forged Marcini wheel.
01:47So yeah, S model has got all the gimmicks and doodads. It is $24,000.
01:55So there you have it, a quick rundown of the bike. Stand next to it and we'll fire it up.
02:00Take a look at the screen. Pretty slick. Oh, ABS front only. I wonder if that'll come in handy.
02:10Grumble, grumble, grumble, grumble, grumble, grumble, grumble, grumble, grumble, grumble. Yeah!
02:15Okie dokie, we are off on the Streetfighter V4 S. We can talk a little bit about specs, as we often do right off the bat.
02:34So like I said, 1100cc engine. It is rated at 208hp at 12,000 something rpm. A lot of rpm.
02:44It revs to just about 14,500. We'll talk about that later.
02:48It weighs 439lbs, and that is with the same 4.2 gallons of gas that the Panigale V4 holds.
02:59So it is sort of an average sized motorcycle, but it's not an average sized motorcycle for one that makes this much horsepower.
03:06440lbs is pretty light for something with 200hp, and pretty light in the spectrum of other naked bikes as well.
03:16It is a 33.3 inch seat height. Sort of an average to high seat height, but the seat's pretty wide.
03:23The standover height is not bad. It's pretty narrow in the middle, considering it's a 4-cylinder engine.
03:28Of course, because two of them are forward and two of them are back.
03:31In general, it's a fairly high seat, but it's also pretty wide and pretty comfortable, which we'll talk about later as well.
03:39Alright, so that's basic specs for the Streetfighter.
03:44The handlebar is 6.8 inches higher than the Panigale, so that is a very, very significant change.
03:53Obviously, it's a big flat bar instead of clip-ons, so the dynamic is a little bit different between the two systems.
03:59But to give you an idea, the footpegs are a little bit lower, and the handlebar is a lot higher than the Panigale.
04:09In general, what that means is a pretty comfortable seating position.
04:13It's sporty, but there's a decent amount of legroom for what it is.
04:19The bar is a very reasonable reach. You sort of can't forward into the wind, which we'll learn about on the freeway here.
04:25But for around town, it's pretty good in general.
04:29My only real complaint for riding in a city is that the steering lock is kind of tight.
04:33It doesn't work all that well trying to do U-turns.
04:37But aside from that, it's a pretty darn comfortable city bike.
04:42That downshift behind this big rig here, you'll notice I'm using the bi-directional quickshifter.
04:48So it shifts automatically for you.
04:50Auto-blip down and quickshifter up.
04:53Pretty standard technology for almost any Ducati at this point, but especially a high-end sport Ducati.
05:02And the system works pretty well.
05:04Sometimes I use the clutch anyway just for the heck of it, but in general it's quite good.
05:08Okay, merging out onto the freeway here.
05:14And again, the bike's pretty comfortable.
05:17Not too much to complain about. No wind protection to speak of, of course, because the bike is fairly naked.
05:23Certainly up top.
05:25And that's where the sort of sporty riding position comes into play, right?
05:29You lean forward a little bit into the wind, which is kind of good.
05:34Especially if you're going to do a longish highway stint on this bike,
05:38it's probably good that the riding position is a little bit more sporty
05:41because it's easier to lean into the wind than it is to be bolt upright on any bike that doesn't have wind protection, in my opinion.
05:48You'll see we're going 75 miles an hour here.
05:51We're pulling about 6,000 RPM.
05:54And that's just about where the engine starts to get a little bit buzzy.
05:58And that's just about where the engine starts to get a little bit buzzy.
06:02It's not uncomfortable by any means, but I do wish the gearing was a little bit higher, as I often do.
06:09If you watched the episode with my personal bike, my KTM 950 Supermoto,
06:14you saw that I did change the gearing. I made it a little bit taller.
06:17And I do the same thing with this bike because the Panigale V4 standard bike,
06:22the gearing is 16 teeth in the front, 41 teeth in the back.
06:27And this is a 15-42, so it's one tooth shorter gearing on both the front and rear sprockets.
06:35And that's the same gearing as the Panigale V4 R has.
06:39However, the Panigale V4 R revs to 16,000, 16,500, something like that.
06:45And this revs to 14,500.
06:47And obviously the reason they did that is that this bike doesn't have to go quite as fast
06:51and outright top speed because it doesn't have a fairing.
06:54So it doesn't have quite the top speed capability.
06:56As far as highway cruising, I would just as soon have a slightly taller 6th gear.
07:01And as we'll find out at some point, I'm sure, this bike is not lacking for torque in the lower gears.
07:07That's for sure.
07:09And let's give it the noise for a second.
07:17Oh boy.
07:20I didn't even come close to the rev limiter either.
07:22That's the crazy thing about this engine.
07:24So I'm going to punch it into race mode right now.
07:27And this is one of three ride modes this bike has.
07:32It has race, sport, and street.
07:35And what I've done with these modes is I put race in the sort of stiffest, most aggressive version of the dynamic suspension.
07:45And I put sport right in the middle and I put street in the softest.
07:48So we'll experiment as the ride goes on.
07:50Race mode is also the highest throttle response, the most aggressive throttle response that's available on this bike.
07:57And I did the same thing with sport and street.
08:00I put it in the medium engine mode and the softest engine mode, respectively.
08:05So basically I've set up each of the three modes to be the most aggressive, medium, and the least aggressive.
08:10So that we can experiment with the widest range of throttle modes and suspension adjustments on the bike.
08:16And I'll talk about this a little bit more later.
08:18But this is one of the things I really like about the Streetfighter is that it has such a wide range of adjustability.
08:24And the electronic Olin suspension allows how supple the chassis is, how soft the feel is in the chassis to change as you adjust ride modes.
08:37And I think that's really something that helps make the bike more livable day to day.
08:41And of course it makes it more tunable from a performance standpoint if you were to take it to a racetrack or anything like that.
08:48I feel like this bridge is where we usually talk about mirrors because it's often time when the traffic is the worst.
08:53These mirrors are not that great.
08:55They're surprisingly smooth, I think.
08:58And that's one thing about the engine on the Streetfighter, this Ducati Desmosedici Stradale engine is that it is quite smooth.
09:07So the mirrors are quite stable, but they're just not very wide.
09:10So you get more of a view of your elbow than you do of traffic behind you.
09:14But, you know, that's sort of a style thing.
09:17They didn't want to make them all huge and dorky, so they just kind of set them low.
09:20They do the trick, but they're not great.
09:22As we come to the end of the freeway section here, one thing I'd like to say is that the seat on the Streetfighter is especially good.
09:29I mean, I wish I could put it on basically any other motorcycle that I ride.
09:33It's just surprisingly wide and it's made of an awesome material.
09:38It's just really, it's the right amount of soft and supportive.
09:41It's really, it's really a great seat.
09:44And I wasn't necessarily expecting that from a 200 horsepower, you know, naked bike.
09:52So up we go through this row of stop signs.
09:54We usually try to approach, stop, and go without putting our feet down.
10:03That's a test of the bike's balance.
10:04And the Streetfighter is pretty good.
10:06I love it in race mode, though.
10:08And the throttle response is a little touchy in race mode, as you would expect, because you want quick response when you're on a racetrack.
10:15But I think I might pull it out of this mode, because also the suspension is quite stiff in this mode.
10:24So after this stop sign, I'm going to change the mode here real quick on the fly.
10:30Still pretty good, though.
10:31I've got to say, it's impressive.
10:33So I hold down the mode button, and then we go down to street.
10:36Going to put it in street mode.
10:39So now this is a nice, soft throttle response, and the suspension softens up.
10:43It's really remarkable.
10:44It's so cool how you can feel the bike just sort of, it's like all the muscles are tense, and then you can just sort of feel it relax.
10:51It's pretty cool.
10:56Yeah.
10:57Another stop sign cleaned.
11:00The throttle response on the Streetfighter is actually one of the things that really impressed me about this bike,
11:04because it's supposed to be a really raw and visceral high-performance experience, and it is.
11:12But it's also pretty docile.
11:15It works pretty well.
11:16When you ask for a certain amount of throttle, that's exactly what you get.
11:21It's not something, again, kind of like the seat, not something I necessarily expected from this bike,
11:26because it kind of sounds raw, you know, has that lumpy idle, and it pops and snorts and stuff when you rev it.
11:33But when you ask it to be gentle, the clutch engagement is really nice, and the throttle response is really smooth.
11:38And if you're thinking, yeah, all that stuff should absolutely be perfect for $24,000 and, you know, no wind protection,
11:46I'm inclined to agree with you, actually.
11:48I think that's true.
11:50But to Ducati's credit, they nailed it.
11:53While we're stuck at this light, we can talk a little bit about the dash.
11:55I can get a little bit closer there for you.
11:57It's a pretty basic dash.
11:58You've got this, you know, faux analog tachometer, which is pretty cool,
12:04and it sort of changes color and flashes when you rev the bike up.
12:07And then speed over here, nice and big.
12:10And then all this stuff down here on the bottom left is, you know, air temp and trip meters,
12:16and that you adjust with this toggle here.
12:19So, yeah, trips, constant fuel economy, odometer, stuff like that.
12:23It also has a setting menu, so if you go down to setting menu and hit select,
12:26you can go in to adjust riding modes, the backlight, all the sort of options for the dasher in here,
12:32which are way too vast for me to get into while we're riding.
12:36We're not going to spend too much time talking about passenger comfort on the Street Fighter
12:39because that's not really the point of this bike, to be honest.
12:43But if you do have a passenger and they or you are curious,
12:48my passenger tester extraordinaire, my lovely wife,
12:52did report that the Street Fighter is not great for passengers, as you might expect.
12:57The seat is, she said, pretty soft.
13:00It's not really wide enough.
13:02There's not a lot of seat there.
13:04And most of all, what she didn't like is that you sit way up above the rider,
13:08so not super secure position for the passenger to be in.
13:11So that's her quick review of passenger accommodations on the old Street Fighter.
13:15So as we sit the stop sign in street mode,
13:18as I accelerate away here, I'm going to do something for you.
13:20I'm going to pin it in first gear, wide open.
13:24And that's what happens.
13:26Really gentle acceleration, frankly.
13:28I mean, it's fast and interesting, but that was wide open throttle.
13:32And that's because we're in street mode, which is in engine mode low,
13:36and it dumbs down the power quite a bit.
13:38I don't remember the exact percentage or number off the top of my head,
13:41but I kind of appreciate that because it frankly has plenty of roll on power
13:45for the freeway and that kind of thing.
13:47But it does.
13:48It does dumb the power down enough that, you know,
13:51you're not going to snap wheelie for no reason.
13:54And with that, I'm going to go back to sport mode.
13:57I'm going to hold down the mode switch.
13:59We go up to sport.
14:00I'm going to select it.
14:02I close the throttle, and then it's going to say ABS front only.
14:05I don't know if you can see that, which is a little bit less safe.
14:10Don't try this at home, but could be a little bit more fun down the road.
14:14We'll see.
14:15OK, we're into the twisty bits.
14:17We got a little bit of free road here.
14:19It's not going to last very long, I'm sure.
14:21But what I can tell you about the handling of the Streetfighter
14:24on an open road anyway is that it is very, very nimble.
14:29It's very direct.
14:31It handles really, really well.
14:33So well, in fact, that I'm catching up to this Honda Accord.
14:38I know.
14:39I know what you're thinking.
14:40How could you possibly catch up to a Honda Accord on a twisty mountain?
14:43Wow.
14:44The Streetfighter is just such a performance machine, let me tell you.
14:47Kidding aside, it is a very direct, very planted,
14:50and communicative motorcycle to go through turns on.
14:55And that's probably something you were expecting.
14:57I would love to take it to a racetrack.
14:59I haven't had an opportunity to do that yet,
15:01but I'm looking forward to the day when it happens
15:04because I think this bike is going to work really well on the side of the tire
15:08and be a legitimate sort of track day weapon,
15:12not just for the horsepower,
15:13but because of the dynamic nature of the suspension
15:17and also just the sort of Panigale bones that it has as a foundation.
15:23Okey dokey, we're off the hill and on to some surface streets.
15:27Woo hoo hoo!
15:29And that's what happens when you open the throttle in sport mode
15:34with engine power at medium,
15:36which is, I believe, full peak power, but a little bit softer response.
15:40And to be clear, I didn't even open the throttle there.
15:43It just takes off like a thoroughbred.
15:47And on the topic of the engine,
15:49I mentioned on the freeway that I thought it was pretty smooth.
15:51I mentioned in that neighborhood that I thought the throttle response was pretty good.
15:55Those are all sort of characteristics of the engine
15:57that people who buy this bike will appreciate, I think.
16:02But the engine as an entity, I believe,
16:05is the reason that anyone would buy this bike.
16:08I mean, the V4, you know,
16:12it's the pinnacle of performance in the Ducati lineup
16:15and the fact that you can get it as a more usable naked bike is super notable.
16:21Let's see if we can back it in here now that we got the front ABS off.
16:25Yeah!
16:27Okay, we're having fun, we're having fun.
16:30But the engine, it is the reason you buy the bike.
16:33It is amazingly powerful,
16:35but the technology in it and sort of what it represents
16:38as a cornerstone in the Ducati lineup
16:40is the reason that you would get this motorcycle.
16:44And I think from that standpoint, it delivers.
16:46It sounds cool.
16:47It looks like a sort of bizarre piece of moon landing equipment
16:51strapped into that chassis.
16:52It's full of like veins and, you know, castings.
16:56And it's just super, super interesting looking, I think.
17:00And all of the actual technology that is involved,
17:04there's stuff that Ducati's learned from MotoGP
17:06as far as the pumps inside the engine and fluid dynamics.
17:10And it's a legitimate application of Ducati's technology into a street bike.
17:15And that is pretty cool.
17:18Plus, it does a nifty trick
17:20where it shuts off the rear two cylinders at idle
17:23if the water temperature is above 167 Fahrenheit.
17:27So I can't quite tell if it's doing it right now.
17:29Sometimes if you just crack the throttle, you can hear it.
17:32Yeah.
17:34So you hear that sort of like lumpy...
17:37And if you just crack the...
17:38Well, I'm not sure you guys can hear it,
17:39but you can sort of hear the engine tone change just a little bit.
17:42And that's because the cylinders are shutting off.
17:45Whoa, loose hubcap.
17:47I sometimes see hubcaps in the road,
17:49and I've wondered what the deal is.
17:51Now we just saw one fall off.
17:52I wonder if I have time to get it out of the road.
17:54I feel like maybe I do.
17:56Nope.
17:57Got to go.
17:58Sorry, hubcap.
17:59You're on your own.
18:05So just to recap on the engine,
18:08it is the reason to buy this bike
18:10because of the technology, the sound, the look, the feel, all that stuff.
18:14And to boot, Ducati did a good job putting it all together
18:18and applying it to this particular bike
18:21and this particular style of riding
18:22in a way that works really, really well.
18:24As far as the outright horsepower number,
18:26I had someone on social media ask me,
18:28does it actually feel faster than, you know,
18:32a bike with 130 horsepower or 150 horsepower?
18:35You know, it has 200 horsepower.
18:37So what, you know, what does that actually mean practically?
18:40And I thought that was a good question
18:42because obviously the horsepower war thing is ever-raging
18:47and a little silly at times
18:49because you don't actually need 200 horsepower
18:52in your naked bike or any street bike, really.
18:56But I think that what's interesting about this bike
19:01is that it does feel faster than some bikes
19:05that have 130 and 150 horsepower,
19:07but it's not necessarily because of all the horsepower
19:10that the engine produces.
19:11To me, it's more about the dynamic of the chassis
19:13because at a certain point, bikes just wheelie, right?
19:15You have so much horsepower, they just wheelie.
19:17And that's the end of the story.
19:19With this bike, it does wheelie,
19:23but it doesn't really want to a lot of the time,
19:26if that makes sense.
19:28And I did some quick spec checking
19:30with a couple other bikes,
19:31one in particular, the Yamaha MT-10,
19:33which of course is half the price of this bike,
19:36but in the same sort of class.
19:39And I noticed that the wheelbase on the MT-10
19:42is three and a half inches shorter, I think.
19:45The MT-10 loves to wheelie.
19:47The Streetfighter does not necessarily love to wheelie,
19:51even though it has so much horsepower.
19:53And I think that that's notable
19:55on the topic of whether or not the bike feels fast, right?
19:58You have to have the right mechanical grip
20:01and the mechanical leverage
20:02to push the horsepower to the ground and forward
20:04without the front wheel coming up.
20:06And that's something that Ducati thought about
20:07with this bike probably a little bit more
20:09than Yamaha did with the MT-10.
20:12As far as comparisons to other models,
20:14of course, everybody wants to know
20:15what it feels like compared to an Impreza Tuono.
20:19And the most I can tell you right now,
20:21I have not rid them back to back,
20:23but I can tell you that it's comparable.
20:25They feel sort of similar.
20:26The engine character is quite a bit different
20:29from the sort of sound and a little bit of the feel.
20:33I feel like the Tuono needs to spin up a little bit more
20:37before it makes power.
20:39But in general, the feel is pretty comparable.
20:43I would give the nod to the Ducati seat.
20:45As I said, it's quite a good seat.
20:48But as far as sort of like how the brakes feel
20:52and the quick shifters,
20:53I mean, both the Aprilia and Ducati
20:55have got that stuff really dialed in
20:58and pretty well figured out.
20:59They're both super high-quality pieces of equipment.
21:02Okie doke.
21:03Well, just like you guys have all been waiting for,
21:06I'm sure you want to know
21:07how the Streetfighter handles off-road.
21:11Well, here we go.
21:13We're going to test it.
21:15Not enough steering lock.
21:18Go down the dirt road.
21:22Hopefully Ducati still lets me test their bikes
21:24after seeing this.
21:26That's actually not too bad.
21:28Trundles along.
21:29I don't even have the...
21:30Okay. Okay.
21:32Yep. All right.
21:33You know, all good. All good.
21:35We're staying focused.
21:36It doesn't like the sand too much.
21:40Suspension's pretty stiff.
21:42You don't want to drag any hard parts or anything.
21:46If you need to go down a dirt road on a Panigale,
21:49I mean, on a Streetfighter, you can.
21:52I mean, we might as well just try the jump out.
21:57Not really a jump.
22:02More of just a bump.
22:04But, you know, it handled it.
22:06Did the thing.
22:08Okay. Back on to the black top.
22:14And we'll see if we can get a wheelie
22:15out of this 200 horsepower machine.
22:18Something tells me we can.
22:20There we go.
22:22Look at it go. Look at it go.
22:25Oh my gosh. It's so fast.
22:28Yeah. Get a wheelie.
22:31Holy smokes.
22:34It's that rev ceiling, man.
22:36The rev ceiling is just berserk.
22:39Let's just see if we can get near the rev limiter
22:41because, you know, it's pretty interesting.
22:44Here we go. First gear.
22:5014 grand, basically.
22:52Oh my gosh. It just revs forever.
22:54It's wild how this engine spins up.
22:58It feels and sounds like a twin down below
23:015,000 RPM and then it just spins up like crazy.
23:04It's wild.
23:05Now's the point we talk about price.
23:07So, like I said, $24,000 for the Streetfighter V4 S.
23:12It's about 20 grand for the base bike
23:15that does not have the electronic Ohlins suspension.
23:17Minivan U-turn.
23:21So that is kind of near the top,
23:25if not at the top, of the price chart for this category.
23:30The only other one that's in that range, really,
23:33that I can think of is the Tuono Factory,
23:35which I think is 20 grand, 19 or 20,
23:37for the full Zoot Tuono.
23:40So same price as the base Streetfighter.
23:42You got to pay an extra four grand
23:44to get the King D Streetfighter V4.
23:48So as it stacks up price-wise,
23:50the Streetfighter is, you know,
23:53it's at the top of Mount Olympus.
23:55It's the most expensive naked bike,
23:58really, that you can buy.
24:01And it's also probably the most versatile,
24:04in my opinion.
24:05I love the Super Duke.
24:06I love the Tuono.
24:07But I don't think either one is quite as dynamic.
24:11Maybe the Tuono.
24:12But like I said, I guess I'll have to wait
24:14till I ride them both on a racetrack
24:16or something like that.
24:17Anyway, just got to skip down the freeway
24:20and we'll be back to the hood.
24:22We can answer some Instagram questions
24:24and we can rank this mamma jamma
24:26on the Daily Rider Leaderboard.
24:28Peeling off the freeway behind a Tesla
24:31so we don't get to really
24:33mob through these corners as we might normally.
24:37And that last little freeway stint there,
24:40the fuel light came on,
24:42which is something that happens on the Streetfighter.
24:46I realized I failed to address that
24:48in the main part of the video,
24:50but you get fuel mileage in the low 30s
24:55and with a 4.2 gallon tank,
24:57that means you're going to get
24:59a hundred and something miles,
25:01a hundred and ten, really,
25:03until you want to fill up.
25:05You could probably go 130,
25:06but you realistically won't get
25:08that kind of mileage
25:10unless you're really sort of pushing it.
25:12So yeah, range on this bike, not great.
25:15Coming back toward home base alley.
25:17Can we back it in?
25:19Yeah!
25:21Show-nuff-can.
25:23I like that independent ABS.
25:26And here we go.
25:28Back home.
25:30On the Streetfighter V4,
25:32we can take a listen to this puppy
25:35now that it's all warmed up.
25:40Yeah, and it shut off,
25:42so that's what it'll do sometimes.
25:50There you go.
25:52V4 power.
25:54Okay, I saved some of your Instagram questions here,
25:57so we're going to jump through a few of them.
25:59Umzankie asks,
26:01given the radiator, all I care to know is
26:03how much does it cook the bits?
26:06Yeah.
26:07So I didn't talk about engine heat,
26:09and I guess that's because
26:10I didn't really notice it on this ride.
26:12It's sort of a cool day here,
26:14so above 85 degrees Fahrenheit
26:16is when I start to really feel it
26:18on the inside of my left thigh.
26:20As you can see, I mean,
26:21the rear exhaust pipes come out
26:23right here, right behind the engine,
26:26and it's right below the saddle,
26:28as often happens with Ducatis.
26:30I'm not sure why it always affects my left thigh
26:32or my right, considering it's on the right side.
26:34Maybe the heat shield kind of pushes it the other way.
26:36It is a hot bike.
26:38It makes a lot of horsepower,
26:40and where there's horsepower, there is heat.
26:42Hence, the massive, massive radiator.
26:45So that's something that you just kind of
26:47have to expect.
26:48I don't think it's particularly bad.
26:49I don't think it's as bad as Panigale's used to be,
26:51for what it's worth,
26:52but it is something to think about,
26:53especially if you live in a warm climate.
26:55Rustandductape asks,
26:56how do you feel about the screen?
26:58Is it too much?
26:59I'm not sure what it's going to look like right now.
27:01I don't think that the screen is too much.
27:03I think this is just sort of the state-of-the-art
27:05these days,
27:06to have all of this information displayed
27:09in color,
27:10and I didn't notice a lot of glare while riding.
27:13I have to say I'm a little bit surprised
27:15that it's not adjustable for angle,
27:18as the Triumph Street Triple
27:22is, I believe,
27:23and maybe even the Speed Triple now.
27:24I think that's a pretty cool feature,
27:26and I think that's something that they
27:27could have considered,
27:28but in general, good dash.
27:30I like the display of information.
27:31The menus can be time-consuming to go through,
27:34but everything is pretty intuitive,
27:35and in general, I like it.
27:37Vincent Wilson asks,
27:39does it wheelie in every gear?
27:41No, it doesn't,
27:43and that actually brings up a point
27:44that I meant to bring up while I was riding,
27:46which is that torque is actually limited
27:49in the first four gears,
27:51so first, second, third, fourth.
27:53There's just a slight adjustment
27:55to the throttle butterfly, I believe,
27:57so that it's less apt
28:00to just wheelie over backwards
28:01because it makes so much horsepower.
28:03It is not wheelie control.
28:04It is a torque limitation of the output
28:06of the engine in those gears.
28:07As you saw, it did not struggle to wheelie.
28:10It is not a huge problem.
28:11It doesn't make not enough power
28:13in those gears,
28:15but once you get going
28:16and open it up in the upper gears,
28:20it does stay pretty planted.
28:23Maybe that's the wings.
28:24Maybe it's the long wheelbase.
28:25Who knows, but it's actually pretty balanced.
28:27Thojo1111 asks,
28:30how's the headlight look in person?
28:32Do you miss the one big round headlight
28:33like Duke naked bikes of yore?
28:35I don't know how it looks in person.
28:37It looks kind of aggressive and squinty,
28:39and I guess that's what they were going for.
28:42They want it to look like a Panigale,
28:44and I understand that.
28:45I do like a round headlight,
28:46but I don't think it would fit this bike necessarily.
28:48The Drew Becker asks,
28:50is it more comfortable than a Monster?
28:51How do the ergonomics compare to, say, an FZ-09?
28:54So speaking of round headlights,
28:56the Monster, of course,
28:57historically has been a round headlight bike,
28:59and even now it's more round than this is.
29:02So I would say it's comparable to a Monster.
29:04I think a Monster is a little bit more street-oriented.
29:06I haven't ridden them back-to-back,
29:08so I can't say for sure,
29:09but I would say that this bike
29:10is certainly more aggressive as a character,
29:12and riding position-wise,
29:13I think probably the same.
29:15Totally different than an FZ-09.
29:17FZ-09, you sit way forward.
29:19The pegs on FZ-09 are really far down.
29:21There's lots of legroom,
29:23and yeah, you sit super far forward,
29:25close to the bar,
29:26and far from the foot peg.
29:28So yeah, hopefully that answers your question.
29:30Mike Paul 1000 wants to know,
29:32the original Streetfighter 1098 was wicked.
29:34Does this new bike give you that same
29:36this bike is going to kill me, but I like it feeling?
29:39The 1098 Streetfighter was just punishing.
29:42It was punishing when you opened the throttle.
29:45It would wheelie all the time.
29:47It was just really, really, really raw,
29:49and it worked pretty well on a twisty mountain road,
29:52but it had a super spartan dash,
29:54and it was just vicious.
29:56It was just sort of mean,
29:58and lived up to the sort of Streetfighter
30:00kind of brawler name,
30:02and it lived in that lane,
30:04and that was it.
30:06This bike does have gobsmacking power,
30:09more than the 1098, of course,
30:11but it's also versatile,
30:12and I appreciate that.
30:13I appreciate that you can turn down
30:15the throttle response
30:17and the outright peak power
30:19in a low engine mode,
30:21and you can soften up the suspension,
30:23and you can sort of tell it to relax,
30:25and it will,
30:26and it's much more docile like that,
30:28and if you put it in race mode,
30:30and you turn off trash control,
30:32then you're going to have a seriously vicious beast
30:34on your hand,
30:35so I would say it does compare.
30:37It can give you that feeling,
30:39but it has a wider range of operating ability
30:42in the spectrum, if that makes sense.
30:44Andy Knuckles asks,
30:46how much fun is this versus a Super Duke?
30:48Good question.
30:50I'm a big fan of the Super Duke.
30:52I think the engine is excellent.
30:54I think as a sort of street bike,
30:56it's just really, really good.
30:58It's great at being tame,
31:00and it's great at, you know,
31:01ripping huge wheelies.
31:02For me, the Street Fighter V4
31:05delivers fun in a more performance-oriented way,
31:08and the Super Duke delivers fun
31:10in a more sort of general
31:12street bike ability kind of way.
31:14This is like looking at a,
31:16it's like using an incredibly
31:19sharp knife to cut something,
31:22even though you don't need to,
31:24whereas the Super Duke is sort of,
31:26I'm not very good with knives, sorry,
31:28but it's just a,
31:29it's a more usable everyday tool
31:32than this is, I think.
31:33Okay, last question.
31:35Where was it?
31:36Staryu072 asks,
31:39would you buy one as your only bike?
31:42Well, that's a good question.
31:44It is very expensive.
31:46There's no two ways about that.
31:48I would consider it, though,
31:49because of the versatility.
31:50I don't think that my balance of riding,
31:53my lifestyle,
31:54what I want is for a bike
31:55to be particularly good around town
31:58and on daily rides, you know?
32:00I think that this bike is really,
32:01really going to deliver
32:02when you take it to a racetrack.
32:03That's the feeling that I get,
32:05and that's one of the reasons
32:06that I've always kind of preferred
32:07the Super Duke to the Tuono.
32:09Not, there's just, it's splitting hairs.
32:11They're so close,
32:12but I think what the Super Duke does
32:14that I like is it just sort of offers
32:15a little bit more of that grand touring
32:17kind of feel.
32:18I'd feel more comfortable
32:19taking it on a long road trip.
32:20It's got better range.
32:21Last time I checked,
32:22it had better luggage options
32:23than the Tuono,
32:24and it probably has better luggage options
32:26than the Street Fighter.
32:28So that's where I would lean, you know,
32:30is something that is a little bit
32:32more streetable
32:33and a little bit less track oriented.
32:35But if you are in the market
32:36to purchase one of these,
32:38I do think one of the things
32:39that it delivers
32:40that I'm so impressed with
32:41is all of the versatility.
32:43It can be so mean and so fast,
32:44and it can also be fairly tame
32:46despite sounding like a raging bull
32:48at every stoplight.
32:49Thank you for your Instagram questions.
32:51I appreciate that.
32:52I hope that the answers were satisfactory.
32:55And now all we got to do
32:56is go back to Daily Rider headquarters
32:58and rank this sucker
32:59on the DR leaderboard.
33:01And here we are back
33:02at Daily Rider headquarters
33:04with the Daily Rider leaderboard,
33:06of course,
33:07and so far versus 650
33:09and my personal KTM,
33:10so not super deep so far.
33:12And I realized
33:13I don't have any red pins, actually.
33:15So that's my bad.
33:16We're going to use
33:17the closest thing that we've got
33:18and we'll work on that later.
33:20As far as where it stands
33:21on the leaderboard,
33:22the Ducati Streetfighter,
33:23I think it is at or near the top
33:25of a category that is undeniably cool,
33:28hyper naked,
33:29performance oriented motorcycles.
33:31It's also pretty expensive,
33:33let's be honest,
33:34in the scheme of motorcycling
33:35and within its own class.
33:37So I think it probably sits
33:38right about here
33:40in the middle of this category.
33:43Undeniably cool,
33:44undeniably pricey,
33:46sort of holding down
33:47that middle spot.
33:48So we're going to drop that pin
33:49and we're going to write
33:51Ducati Streetfighter V4 S.
33:54Now we have to decide
33:55where it lines up
33:56on the overall
33:57Daily Rider leaderboard.
33:59This is my personal KTM here,
34:002006 KTM.
34:02I'm a little bit sentimental
34:03about that, I'll admit.
34:05But overall,
34:07I think I got to give the nod
34:08to the Streetfighter
34:10even though the range
34:11is kind of crummy on that bike,
34:13but it does have the versatility
34:14in throttle modes
34:15and suspension settings
34:17plus the big kicker,
34:19it has ABS and some rider aids
34:21which I think arguably makes it
34:22a better Daily Rider,
34:23not to mention a lower seat height.
34:25So I'll take that knife in the heart
34:27for my own bike.
34:28Anyway, there you have it,
34:29another bike ranked,
34:30another ride in the books.
34:31I hope you learned something,
34:32I hope you had fun.
34:33I'll see you next time
34:34on Daily Rider.
34:44Holy Moses,
34:45it's like a video game.
34:47The truck's behind me,
34:48the truck's in front of me.
