00:06Hey Bill, can you return my toy car that I left at your home the other day?
00:12Uh, your toy car?
00:14Mmm, Tofu, my dog ate up your car.
00:18I am sorry I couldn't save it.
00:20When I returned home, my dog had chewed it all up.
00:24Oh no! That was my favourite car.
00:27But how can a dog chew up plastic like that?
00:31But it's true.
00:32Alright, it's okay.
00:40What's up, Tofu?
00:45Why do you look so sad?
00:47Tia, Bill says his dog ate up my toy car.
00:51But I'm sure he's lying.
00:53Haha, what?
00:55This just reminds me of a story of the mice that ate iron.
01:00Can you please tell me the story, Tia?
01:03Of course!
01:11Once upon a time, there lived a rich merchant named Naduk.
01:16But as time passed by, his business had a great downfall
01:21and Naduk got into a lot of debt.
01:24And so he decided to leave the city and find his fortune in a new place.
01:31He sold off all his belongings to pay the debts
01:35and decided to leave.
01:37But out of all the belongings that he sold
01:40he kept one prized possession and decided to leave it with a friend
01:45until he returned back to the town.
01:49The next day, Naduk went to say goodbye to his friend Lakshman.
01:54And to leave the iron beam with him.
01:57Hi, Lakshman. I've come to say goodbye.
02:00I'm leaving the city to find my fortune in a new place.
02:05Oh, Naduk! It's sad to hear that your business is suffering.
02:10But where are you going?
02:12I'm not sure yet.
02:14I'll have to travel far and wide to find my luck.
02:18I see. But what about all your possessions?
02:22I've sold off everything and paid off my debts.
02:26And all that I have is this heavy iron beam.
02:30Can you keep it for me till I return?
02:32Of course, Naduk. I'll take good care of it for you.
02:37Naduk said his goodbyes and left with a heavy heart.
02:44But many years later, he returned home, rich and successful.
02:49He had become a wealthy merchant again.
02:52And had opened a large shop in the town.
02:55He decided to go and meet his friend Lakshman after all these years.
03:00So he was very excited about it.
03:04Hi, Lakshman. It's good to see you again.
03:08Welcome back, my friend. How was your journey?
03:12It was great. I've bought a new house and started my business again.
03:16But now I'd like to have my iron beam back.
03:20Ah! About that, Naduk.
03:23The mice ate it.
03:25What? That can't be true. It was a heavy iron beam.
03:30Mice can't possibly eat it.
03:33I'm sorry, Naduk. But it's true.
03:35I kept it in the storeroom and when I went to check on it, it was all gone.
03:41All that was left was some mouse droppings.
03:44Naduk had a clear idea that his friend was lying to him.
03:48And so, to teach him a lesson, he carefully planned.
03:52Well, if that's the case, then it's alright.
03:56But before I leave, can you send your son home with me?
04:00I'd like to send some gifts that I brought for you all.
04:03Sure, Naduk. That's very kind of you.
04:07Naduk took Lakshman's son home with him.
04:10But instead of giving him the gifts, he locked him up in a cellar.
04:15As the night approached, Lakshman started panicking for his son
04:20as he had not returned home yet.
04:22And so he went to Naduk's house and knocked on the door.
04:29Naduk, where is my son?
04:31It's getting late and he should have been home by now.
04:35Oh, I'm sorry, Lakshman.
04:37On the way to my house, something very unfortunate happened to your son.
04:42A hawk swooped down and carried him off.
04:45What? That can't be true.
04:48A hawk can't possibly carry off a 15-year-old boy.
04:52I swear it's true, Lakshman.
04:55You can ask anyone who saw it happen.
04:57You are clearly lying.
04:59This can't be possible. I want my son back.
05:03And soon, the heated argument turned into an ugly quarrel between them.
05:09And so, to settle the matter, they decided to go to the courtroom.
05:14So what's the matter here?
05:16Your honour, Naduk has taken my son and won't give him back.
05:20He's lying about a hawk carrying him off.
05:25Your honour, it's true. A hawk did carry him off.
05:29I wouldn't lie about something like that.
05:32How is that possible, Naduk?
05:35Your honour, if a heavy iron beam can be eaten by mice
05:39then a boy can definitely be carried off by a hawk.
05:43On hearing both sides of the story,
05:45the people in the courtroom understood what was going on
05:49and so everyone burst out laughing including the magistrate.
05:54This is ridiculous.
05:57Naduk, return Lakshman's son to him, immediately.
06:01And Lakshman, return Naduk's iron beam to him.
06:05This matter is closed.
06:08And so, Naduk got his iron beam back and Lakshman got his son back.
06:14But the friendship between the two men was never the same again.
06:18That was a funny and true story.
06:22It is. And the moral of the story is
06:26What goes around, comes around.
06:28Very good. And a lie never goes undetected for long.
06:34I better tell this story to Bill.
06:37You must!
