00:00Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, class editor at Sussex Newspapers. Lovely this morning
00:07to speak to Ian from Kids in Glass Houses. Now, truly exciting times. You're coming up
00:12with your first album in a decade, and you're on the road with dates including Brighton
00:16and Southampton. And it sounds like now you're back together, it's better than ever, with
00:22a better balance of everything, really.
00:25Yeah, it's great to be back. We're really excited to be out there playing new music.
00:31We're so proud of the album. I mean, a lot of artists say that their new work is always
00:36their best work, right? But I think we truly believe this, about this one. It was a labour
00:42of love making it. And yeah, I think having just finished rehearsals, some rehearsals
00:49for the tour and hearing how everything's sort of coming together, we're just looking
00:54forward to putting on like a really sick show for people, playing some new stuff,
00:58playing their hits. Yeah, and we're looking forward to the album coming out. It's just
01:03like, it's such a really nice positive time to be in the band and back together.
01:09That's a fantastic thing to be able to say, isn't it? Because you're saying that 10 years
01:13ago, you felt the band was spent.
01:16Yeah, definitely.
01:17What has changed then?
01:20We've grown up. We've realised how good things were. No, I think for us, I think we just
01:29felt like we'd run our course back then. I think we emotionally knew it was done creatively.
01:35We felt like we were sort of out of juice and that we couldn't really offer anything
01:41new that was, you know, of any, what we would consider like value. Whereas now we've, you
01:48know, we've spent this time apart. We've stayed in touch. I think splitting up when we split
01:52up, we maintained our relationships and our friendships, which was always really important
01:57to us because, you know, we're brothers, we're best mates and we didn't want a band, you
02:03know, breaking up to get in the way of that. So we stayed in touch and, you know, this
02:09idea has been floating around for a while and it just felt right for everyone. And,
02:13you know, and I think sort of the respect we have for each other and the age we are
02:18now where we can really appreciate things in different ways means that.
02:22It's not like you've come back as a different band. You are a band renewed, aren't you?
02:26Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. Renewed and mature, I think.
02:30But not too mature, presumably.
02:32Not too mature. We still give it some life, you know, it just takes longer to recover.
02:39And the new album then, that's special. That's exciting.
02:42Yeah, no, it's really exciting. It's called Pink Flamingo. It's out on October the 25th.
02:48And yeah, I mean, it's essentially a document of our lives over the last 10 years and not
02:53just sort of an introspective look, like an external perspective on things that have been
03:01happening, you know, in and around the world for the past sort of 10 years. And, you know,
03:07we really sort of tried to capture that, but also the essence of the band.
03:11And I think, yeah, we've we've accomplished that.
03:14I think it's like, like I said, it's like our best body of work.
03:18I think it's it feels like our most complete album to date.
03:23That's the best possible way to come back.
03:25Well, congratulations on such a happy return.
03:28Really love to speak. Lovely to speak to you and good luck with everything.
03:31Thank you. Thanks very much.
