00:00Three weeks ago, I uploaded my first video on this channel.
00:02Today, it has 10% click-through rate, 50% retention, and over 10,000 views.
00:07Now it's time to show how you can do that yourself.
00:11Making three videos.
00:11Maybe I'm just making them on my phone and speaking to the camera
00:14and uploading them to a new YouTube channel.
00:15Aiming to make between 25 and 50 videos.
00:18I think you have to make a certain amount of videos before you find your niche.
00:23This is terrible advice.
00:25I mean, it's the way to go if you know nothing about YouTube.
00:28Don't get me wrong.
00:29But if you already have a channel,
00:30decent knowledge about editing videos, thumbnails, things like that,
00:33and you want to take the next step or start a new channel,
00:36publishing consistently or putting out a random video without any planning
00:40is the worst thing to do.
00:41It would work two years ago since the algorithm wasn't pushing our first video anyways.
00:45But now, that just means wasting your biggest chance to grow.
00:49You can completely blow up right in your first video.
00:51Like this channel.
00:52And this.
00:53And this.
00:53And many more.
00:54Well, how to do that?
00:55What makes a video blow up?
00:57Obviously, you can't use the regular way for this.
00:59You need to choose the extreme way.
01:01Although the YouTube algorithm has changed a lot,
01:03it still wants just two things.
01:05Make people click and make people watch.
01:07So basically, you need a good video idea,
01:09good title and thumbnail,
01:10good editing,
01:11and a good story.
01:12You must spend as much time as you can on each of these
01:15to make a video that connects with your audience.
01:17First, you have to learn this one.
01:18Because what's the point of making people click
01:20if your video isn't worth watching for them?
01:22You need to master the skill of getting people's retention
01:25before getting them to click on your video.
01:27So let's get started.
01:28I'm gonna be honest.
01:29Before starting this channel,
01:30I had no idea how to use a story in my videos.
01:33I watched tons of explainers about that.
01:35Everyone was talking about storytelling,
01:37how important it is and all that.
01:38But nobody was telling how I should actually use it in my video.
01:41Every video just told,
01:43okay, if you want more retention,
01:44you should tell a story.
01:45It must have a beginning, middle and end.
01:47That's it.
01:48But this formula is just too broad to actually use with no experience.
01:52How am I gonna start the story?
01:53What should I include in the middle?
01:54What about the ending?
01:55But what if the storytelling is easier than you think?
01:58So I started searching for something else.
02:00And one day I came across this graph.
02:03This is the strategy that almost every successful channel is using.
02:07The best part is,
02:08no matter your niche,
02:09you can use it in your video.
02:10And it's simpler than it looks.
02:12If you fill all the gaps,
02:13you get a perfect storyline for your video.
02:15And if you master this technique,
02:16people will watch longer.
02:17And this number will go up.
02:19So I decided to give it a try.
02:20Made this video and published on this brand new channel.
02:24Let me show you how it works.
02:26Well, as you can see, it's a cycle.
02:27The journey begins and ends on this side,
02:30called the ordinary world.
02:31But to reach the end,
02:32you should go through a special world.
02:33There are 12 points you need to pass along the way.
02:36To explain each step,
02:37I'll take my favorite animation,
02:38How to Train Your Dragon, as an example.
02:40But the same thing applies to almost all movies and YouTube videos you've seen.
02:44If you give your full attention and apply this method in your next video,
02:48that will make people care about it and watch way longer.
02:50Anyways, here's how this movie did it using that formula.
02:53But you gotta focus.
02:55Status quo.
02:55We see the Viking island,
02:57a community of warriors led by this guy,
02:59and our main character, Hiccup.
03:00A small Viking who struggles to fit in.
03:02So you should introduce your main character here.
03:04Easy peasy, right?
03:05Moving on.
03:06Call to adventure.
03:07A dragon called Night Fury attacks the Viking island.
03:10Hiccup wants to prove himself to his dad
03:12and decides to hunt down that dragon.
03:14You should briefly explain why you're doing this video
03:16and maybe show them what's to come.
03:18Assistance.
03:19But one day, he sees Night Fury in a forest
03:21and discovers that dragons aren't the monsters they believe.
03:25It wouldn't be interesting to watch
03:26if your character knows everything from the beginning.
03:28So it's nice to add someone more experienced
03:30or a source of knowledge to the story for help.
03:33Departure.
03:34Hiccup decides to go against the Vikings
03:36and instead of fighting with them,
03:37he tries to understand dragons.
03:39That's the breaking point of the journey
03:40where you step into the unknown,
03:42start the challenge,
03:43or whatever your video is about.
03:44The adventure starts.
03:46Trials.
03:47He tries to convince his father
03:48and the rest of the Vikings who still see dragons as enemies,
03:51but they don't listen to him.
03:53These are some barriers that separates you
03:55on your way to the video's main goal.
03:57Just add some spice and action to the story.
04:00Approach.
04:00Here, you may show a teaser of the biggest threat in your video.
04:04While hanging out with his friend,
04:05Hiccup discovers a gigantic dragon
04:07that controls all the other dragons.
04:09Crisis.
04:10The Vikings learn that and go for a fight with it,
04:12but they underestimate its power and almost lose it all.
04:14This is the darkest point of the story.
04:16Your character faces the biggest challenge
04:19and gets defeated so badly,
04:20but then he finds something.
04:22Hiccup realizes that they can't defeat this thing
04:25without joining the force between humans and dragons.
04:28For your video,
04:29this treasure can be a new idea,
04:31a motivation,
04:32or support from a friend.
04:33Result.
04:34With that treasure,
04:34you overcome the crisis
04:36and achieve your goal for the video.
04:37The Vikings use dragons to defeat the big guy.
04:40Return.
04:41After all that crazy adventure,
04:42it's time to return to the ordinary world.
04:44You can either bring all that treasure with you
04:46or lose it all along the way.
04:48In the movie,
04:48they manage to defeat the giant,
04:50but Hiccup gets injured in the process.
04:53New life.
04:54As you can understand from the name,
04:55your character should have some kind of new life at this point.
04:58Maybe he went from poor to rich,
05:00unhealthy to fit,
05:01and so on.
05:02Hiccup survives,
05:02but the battle leaves him with a prosthetic leg.
05:05The Vikings celebrate their victory
05:06and dragons are accepted as part of their community.
05:09Resolution.
05:10Hiccup becomes a hero in the eyes of the Vikings.
05:12They now understand the value of living with dragons.
05:15Status quo.
05:16Everyone adopts a new way of life
05:18where Vikings and dragons live side by side,
05:20leading to a brighter future for the island.
05:23Well done.
05:24Now all you need to do is just fill the gaps yourself
05:26and come up with your own storyline for your next video.
05:29I made a printable version of this chart
05:31to help you plan your stories even better.
05:33It's completely free.
05:34You can download it in description.
05:35One last tip for filling the gaps
05:37is just ask yourself,
05:38what do you have in common with this guy?
05:40Well, you're human, right?
05:41Just like him.
05:42You can leave your comfort zone,
05:43have an experience,
05:44and transform into a different person.
05:46Of course, you probably don't fight with literal enemies,
05:48but every experience is worth a story.
