At the UN's Joint General Debate on Decolonization, Indian Counsellor Eldos Mathew Punnoose firmly condemned Pakistan for its continued sponsorship of cross-border terrorism. He reaffirmed India's claim over Jammu and Kashmir, labeling Pakistan's attempts to shift focus from its own issues as a diversion. Punnoose's remarks highlighted the pressing need for accountability regarding terrorism and regional stability.

00:00that a country which is infamous across the globe for state-sponsored terrorism and transnational
00:06crimes cast aspersions on the world's largest democracy. It's a fact that fourth committee
00:14have limited expectations from Pakistan and their ability to contribute towards working
00:20of the committee. Unsubstantiated allegations by Pakistan largely pertain to the union territories
00:27of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. India would like to reiterate that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh
00:36are, were and will be an integral and inalienable part of India. India symbolizes pluralism,
00:45diversity and democracy. Pakistan reminds the world of terrorism, parochialism and persecution.
00:53Facts speak for themselves. Lies are lies even if they are repeated over and over by Pakistan.
01:00Madam Chair, I am compelled to take the floor to exercise India's right of reply since Pakistan
01:08continues to abuse this august forum by peddling falsehoods and baseless accusations.
01:14Given Pakistan's past conduct, this is however not surprising. It is ironic that a country
01:22which is infamous across the globe for state-sponsored terrorism and transnational crimes
01:28cast aspersions on the world's largest democracy. It has been Pakistan's consistent state policy
01:37to employ cross-border terrorism as a weapon against its neighbors. The list of attacks
01:44orchestrated by Pakistan is indeed long. In India, they have targeted our parliament,
01:52marketplaces and pilgrimage routes, among several others. Normal Indian citizens have been victims
02:00of such dastardly and inhumane acts by Pakistan. Madam Chair, it is a fact that the Fourth
02:08Committee has limited expectations from Pakistan and their ability to contribute towards working
02:16of the Committee because of their nefarious designs and decades of established practice
02:22of harboring and aiding terrorism and terrorists. Global terrorists are hailed as martyrs.
02:30Pakistan's statement today lends credence to such limited expectations.
02:36Unsubstantiated allegations by Pakistan largely pertain to the Union Territories
02:43of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. India would like to reiterate that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh
02:52are, were and will be an integral and inalienable part of India. Clearly,
03:00Pakistan does not merit a response on internal affairs of India. At this juncture,
03:08we also advise Pakistan to stop the grave and ongoing human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied
03:18Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The world is witness to the divisive activities that Pakistan
03:25tries to undertake day in and day out. India would like to stress that our foundations
03:34are built on the enduring pillar of democratic values, unlike Pakistan's.
03:40Given their tainted democratic record, Pakistan considers real democratic exercises as sham,
03:49as reflected in their statement. All countries speak from their experience.
03:55Sham elections, incarceration of opposition leaders and suppression of political voices
04:02are what Pakistan is familiar with. It is natural that Pakistan must be disappointed
04:09to see real democracy at work. It was only last week that election results were announced in
04:17Jammu and Kashmir. Millions of voters in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have spoken.
04:24They exercised their right to vote and have chosen their leadership according to the
04:30constitutional framework and universal adult suffrage. Clearly, these terms must be alien
04:38to Pakistan. India symbolises pluralism, diversity and democracy. In contrast,
04:47Pakistan reminds the world of terrorism, parochialism and persecution.
04:53Religious and ethnic minorities and their places of worship are targeted and vandalised on a
04:59regular basis. It is important for Pakistan to first look inwards and set its own house in order
05:07instead of meddling in the internal affairs of neighbouring countries.
05:11Pakistan's obsession with India and their past practice corroborate that they will continue
05:18to use this August forum for spreading their malicious propaganda against my country.
05:24They will exercise their right of reply, but I shall refrain from responding to it out of respect
05:31for the Chair and other members of the Committee. As such, facts speak for themselves. Lies are
05:38lies, even if they are repeated over and over by Pakistan.
