00:00Some players wanted to slither into this character's DMs. Others wanted to kick his
00:05Azkaban into prison for good. So how did you handle the Sebastian Salo sitch?
00:10Warning, major spoilers ahead for Hogwarts Legacy.
00:14"...fine. I'm sorry. I'm letting my emotions get the better of me."
00:19Of the many characters that players will encounter over the course of Hogwarts Legacy,
00:24Sebastian Salo is certainly one of the more tragic. He also quickly goes down a dark path,
00:29which may leave players feeling conflicted about the correct way to handle him.
00:33"...your father would be ashamed. You've gone too far, Sebastian. Stay away from her.
00:40From all of us."
00:42Raised by his uncle after the death of his parents, Sebastian Salo grew up very close
00:46to his sister. Sebastian eventually begins attending Hogwarts as a Slytherin student,
00:51where he begins to learn more about the dark arts. Although he may seem like a typical wayward
00:56student in the Draco Malfoy mold, Sebastian insists that there's a deeper reason for his
01:01quest for power. It turns out that Sebastian's sister is deathly ill after being cursed by the
01:06villainous Victor Rookwood, although Sebastian is told that a goblin placed a deadly curse on
01:10his sibling. These circumstances instill a hatred of goblins in Sebastian, who tries to learn dark
01:16spells in the hopes of saving his sister. Sebastian will enlist to play a character
01:20to help with a number of side missions in his quest to master stronger magic.
01:24Eventually, Sebastian makes the unforgivable choice to kill his own uncle,
01:28when the older man tries to bring an end to his crusade.
01:31"...I won't let her suffer. Avada Kedavra!"
01:38This results in Sebastian's sister Anne turning her back on him,
01:41and returning to their home village without him. As if all that weren't stressful enough,
01:45players are also given the choice of whether or not to turn Sebastian over to the authorities.
01:50Despite the murder of Sebastian's uncle, some players may find themselves struggling with this
01:55decision, since Sebastian has been one of the protagonist's besties since the first day of
01:59school. Here's what happens if you decide to turn Sebastian's sallow in.
02:03If players decide that Sebastian needs to face justice for his actions,
02:07headmaster Phineas Nigelus Black will be appalled at the murder and recommend
02:11Sebastian's immediate expulsion from Hogwarts. The protagonist will be informed that Sebastian
02:16will have to stand trial before the Ministry of Magic for using an unforgivable curse and
02:21taking the life of a fellow wizard. As a result, this is the last time the player will see Sebastian
02:26around the school, as the young wizard has been carted off to face his punishment. This also
02:31evokes your chance to learn any unforgivable curses you've yet to add to your arsenal,
02:35although maybe that's for the best.
02:37But what if players decide not to tell headmaster Black about Sebastian's crimes?
02:41In that case, Sebastian still seems to learn the error of his ways.
02:45I realize I can't undo what's been done, but I can try every day to make up for it.
02:50I owe you an ominous everything for standing by me."
02:53Hogwarts Legacy doesn't really offer any kind of morality system to speak of,
02:58so the choice basically comes down to whether or not you want to keep hanging out with Sebastian.
03:02Ultimately, the biggest impact this choice has on the game is that turning Sebastian in
03:07will result in fewer quests, and possibly fewer spells to fall back on.
03:11And oddly enough, it feels like the most obvious character development
03:14occurs when the player decides to let Sebastian go free.
03:17The decision whether or not to hand Sebastian's sallow over to headmaster Black
03:21is one with which some fans of the game seem to struggle. In Reddit threads discussing the
03:26decision, some players have admitted to being stuck at this part of the game.
03:30Sebastian is a fairly constant presence throughout the game, and the writers have
03:34gone out of their way to try and make Sebastian's plight a sympathetic one,
03:37no matter how misguided it may be. Some fans have argued that Sebastian has been punished enough.
03:43His sister has cut him out of her life, and he has to live with the death of his uncle on his
03:47conscience. Others feel that a stay in Azkaban appears to be far too horrific a sentence for
03:52someone like Sebastian, who seemed to believe he was doing the right thing until it all went wrong.
03:57"...you've made your choice."
04:02This just goes to show that Sebastian is one of the game's more complex characters,
04:06as many players have a hard time turning on him in the end. But at
04:09least you know it will happen if you make him answer for his actions.
