00:05:27Mr. Tanner, I want us to introduce myself again. I am Bailey's mom Michelle Stevens
00:05:32Oh, yeah, I remember you and your husband from our video conference earlier this year
00:05:36My my husband actually passed away a few years ago. Oh
00:05:42Really sorry, I didn't know it's that was my boyfriend or at the time ex-boyfriend
00:05:50Yeah, I wanted to see if you want to get an exam real quick before you go back to class. That's okay
00:05:55My visions fine, huh?
00:05:57I'm sure it is but we can just check it out real quick saves you a trip to the optometrist
00:06:03Yeah, I don't actually go to the optometrist
00:06:06You never go no need
00:06:10huh, so I uh, I assume you check your own eye muscle strength and conduct your own fraction assessments and
00:06:19Examine your own visual acuity at home or something
00:06:23No, you don't do those things
00:06:27Come on
00:06:28It's important to get these checkups and it's free right now. When is health care ever free in America?
00:06:35Okay, fine. Okay, great. I promise it'll be super fast and easy
00:06:40Make a seat
00:06:42Okay, mr. Tanner
00:06:53Kate can you just move in a little bit closer to me? Thank you
00:06:59Okay, it's gonna be bright in your eye for just a second, okay
00:07:07Okay, where I
00:07:13Beautiful perfect
00:07:16Yes, you can just cover your right eye with this and read line number four
00:07:22LPED
00:07:23Great. Okay
00:07:25That same eye cover just read the line below the green line the green line
00:07:30Yep
00:07:32Below the green line. Yeah
00:07:37F e l o p z d
00:07:40Perfect and then the line just above that red one right there
00:07:48D e f p o t e c
00:07:53And cover the other eye and read that same line above the red one again
00:07:59D e f p o t e c
00:08:01Great well, there's excellent visual acuity
00:08:052020 actually, it's quite impressive
00:08:08see
00:08:09Nothing wrong with my eyesight. Nope
00:08:13In fact, you can tell me the color of my shirt I'd say it's perfect
00:08:19Can you oh, of course I can then what color is it
00:08:32Blue
00:08:35You got it look at you
00:08:39Well, I better get the students back to class, okay
00:08:43Thanks for coming in today, dr. Stephens, this is a great service you provide for the kids. Thanks for coming by
00:08:51Okay kids come on we got work to do
00:09:02We'll be so glad that we're here
00:09:05Your Christmas helpers are here. Thank goodness. The Christmas season is well underway and we're as busy as ever
00:09:11I'm sure you are. Just let us know how we can help
00:09:13I do have an order of Christmas bouquets that I'm behind on. I love doing bouquets. Perfect. Let's get to work
00:09:20Wanna help me set up? Yeah
00:09:23These
00:09:28Are looking so beautiful, huh job well done. I would have never caught up without your guys help
00:09:34All these flowers just gave me an idea for my science project. I could explain why we see colors
00:09:39It's something we never really think about but there's a scientific reason for it, right?
00:09:43Yeah, sure is and that is actually a science project
00:09:47I can finally help you with and for my demonstration I could light up a little Christmas tree. That's a great idea
00:09:52Bailey
00:09:53Is this for mr. Tanner's class?
00:09:55Yep, but I don't think it's going to be too happy about the tree
00:09:59Why not?
00:10:01He doesn't want any Christmas decorations in his classroom
00:10:05Really like none at all. Nope, but I'm going to do it anyway
00:10:10Every other teacher decorated their classroom. So I'm going to show him how a little Christmas tear can brighten up his plain old science lab
00:10:17Hey, you know what? I just remembered there are Christmas cookies in the bag if it's okay with your mom
00:10:27You can have one just one
00:10:30Okay, you can have more than one, but please don't go overboard and have more than three or four. I promise
00:10:37Feel like we don't have much time
00:10:39I wanted to ask how things are going now that you broke it off with mark single again
00:10:44Feel
00:10:46Honestly, not really a big fan. No
00:10:49It's just different these days with all the apps and everything
00:10:52I just don't really know how to navigate the whole dating scene and I don't know maybe I'm just old-fashioned
00:10:57But I'd really like to just meet someone, you know in person naturally
00:11:03People have been meeting the old-fashioned way since the beginning of human history
00:11:06How mom and dad and you met Jonathan? I met Dan. I
00:11:11Know it's just it's still hard. Yeah, I'm working all the time. And when I'm not working, I want to spend all my time with Bailey
00:11:18Then on top of that mark is trying to get back together and it's just confusing everything. How do you feel about that?
00:11:27You mean what I ever get back together with him? Yeah, I just don't see how I could you can't that guy is an obnoxious jerk
00:11:36Not always I was so relieved when you told me you broke it off with him Wow Heidi
00:11:41Tell me how you really feel about it
00:11:44I'm sorry, but it's the truth and you know a good way to resolve that the whole situation is to start dating again
00:11:51What better time than Christmas?
00:11:53season of love I
00:11:56Just don't really see the point I'm
00:11:59Never gonna find anyone as great as Jonathan. He was such a good father and husband
00:12:06Yeah, he set the bar high, huh? Yeah, I really did
00:12:10You know, he just want you and Bailey to be happy
00:12:12All I'm saying is just keep your heart open to love the universe will find a way to make the right connection. I
00:12:21Love your mystical little way of thinking of everything worked for me. Who knows could work for you, too
00:12:35I
00:12:48Have a little request for you
00:12:50I know that Bailey presents first today and I just wanted to see if it'd be alright if I stood in the back and
00:12:56Watched of course. I welcome parents. Thank you
00:12:59Okay, everyone, please take your seats. It's time to get started
00:13:03Miss Bailey Stevens is going to kick things off this morning Bailey floor is yours
00:13:19Hello everyone, my name is Bailey Stevens and today I'm going to explain why we see colors I
00:13:24Happen to think colors are what make our world so beautiful
00:13:27They seem to appear almost like magic but colors don't actually appear by magic
00:13:32There's a scientific reason we see them light is made up of different wavelengths that are absorbed or reflected off objects
00:13:39The reflective wavelength is the color we see
00:13:44The ways hit the retinas in the back of our eyes where there are millions of cells called rods and cones
00:13:50Mr. Tanner, can I turn it on?
00:13:52Yeah
00:14:00Right now your rods and cones are working together so you can see all these beautiful colors. What do you think? Mr. Tanner?
00:14:06It's beautiful, isn't it?
00:14:12What do you think class is it beautiful
00:14:15Yeah
00:14:18Okay, then well researched and clearly presented great job
00:14:24Mr. Tanner, do you think it'd be okay if we kept the Christmas tree in the classroom, you know, I discourage Christmas decorations in the classroom. Why?
00:14:35Sorry
00:14:38They distract the children from learning that's why
00:14:42Okay
00:14:45Well
00:14:46It's all due respect. I think your classroom could use a little bit of Christmas cheer
00:14:54They get plenty of Christmas outside of the classroom
00:15:01But since such a big production was made of it, I guess the tree can stay
00:15:12Thank you
00:15:15Yep, perfect a flashing plastic tree to draw everyone's attention away from learning
00:15:24Well, Merry Christmas, mr. Tanner, yeah, bye dr. Stephens
00:15:41Oh
00:15:56Hey, buddy
00:16:01How do you always know the worst time to visit what can I say it's a gift
00:16:06Speaking of gifts boy. Do I have a Christmas present for you? Don't expect when I return
00:16:11You know, I don't do Christmas. How can I forget your place? Looks like it was decorated by the design team of Einstein and Scrooge
00:16:20I was just about to have something to eat. Do you want to play it? Maybe what do we have?
00:16:26Pasta and marinara
00:16:28The favorite meal of bachelors everywhere. I happen to like it. Yeah. Well, I'm
00:16:34Watching my carbon takes all pass
00:16:37Anyway, that's why I stopped by today to address your chronic bachelorette us is that even a word it is now
00:16:44You've got a bad case of it, but don't worry. Good pal. Sean has just the cure
00:16:49I do not need to be cured actually you do
00:16:52You'll be happy to know though that the cure is a date with a beautiful woman. I don't think so
00:16:58Come on, man. Hear me out. She's a friend of a friend. She is beautiful funny super successful the whole package
00:17:05She just climbed Mount Kilimanjaro
00:17:08And do her favor and keep her away from me
00:17:11Too late. It's already set up
00:17:15What
00:17:16I'm sorry, man. I just couldn't help it. I'm cancel it. Come on, man
00:17:21Look at you just standing here all by yourself during the holidays. No offense, but it's a little depressing. I
00:17:29remember inviting you over I
00:17:32Came over because I care if you're lucky enough to have people in your life willing to help you out when you need it be
00:17:38Grateful man, that's how the world should work people looking out for one another
00:17:42At this stage in your life, believe me a little romance is just what you need
00:17:47There you go great, this is my absolute favorite event of the entire year
00:17:52Okay, make sure it doesn't fall. Yep

00:18:15Please mr. Tanner, you can help us finish decorating our gingerbread house
00:18:22Looks more like a gingerbread chalet to me
00:18:26All right
00:18:29So
00:18:31I'm gonna help
00:18:33Well, I was thinking that maybe we should start adding a little bit of color
00:18:40Let's start with red, can you pass me the red box?
00:18:44Mm-hmm
00:18:54Thank you, you're welcome
00:19:00No on second thought I think it might look a little bit better with a mix of colors, yeah, oh you do
00:19:13Can you hand me the green ones, of course I can yes
00:19:29Thank you again quite welcome, okay
00:19:35What if we added yellow and blue as well, yeah, I think that would look really pretty right? Yeah, I think that would be great
00:19:43You do you do?
00:19:45So can you hand us one of each?
00:19:48Yellow and blue yellow and blue. Yep
00:19:57Coming right up
00:20:07Thank you
00:20:10Yellow and blue. All right. Are you sure?
00:20:15I
00:20:17Hadn't realized the time actually have to get going. Where are you off to? I have a
00:20:24What date
00:20:31So, yeah, I'll see you tomorrow Bailey, I'm mr. Tanner Stevens
00:20:37It's really nice to see you again
00:20:39Nice to see you, too
00:20:43Are you thinking what I'm thinking do you think you can help him mom I
00:20:49Do yeah
00:20:51It's kind of like what your aunt Heidi always says sometimes in life two people cross paths for a certain reason
00:20:58So let's add that blue and yellow
00:21:10Debbie
00:21:12Hi, hi, I'm Ryan nice to meet you. Well, Sean said I wouldn't regret this date and looks like you're this, right?
00:21:19Just wait till you get to know me
00:21:22Should we get a table I would love to allow me
00:21:35Thank you
00:21:39Be right back some water
00:21:43So Ryan I hear you work in the sciences, is that right? Yeah, I'm a science teacher
00:21:50At which University? Oh
00:21:52No, I'm a teacher at an elementary school. Oh
00:21:57But Sean said you have a PhD I do and that you graduated top of your class, yeah
00:22:04Mm-hmm
00:22:08So, what is it you do Debbie
00:22:11I'm a serial entrepreneur. I build businesses take them from idea to acquisition must keep you busy
00:22:18That's an understatement
00:22:21so
00:22:23How do you make time for relationships?
00:22:26well
00:22:28Up to this point. I haven't but I want children
00:22:33And you know that biological clock
00:22:38Mm-hmm. Well, I figure it's just a matter of rescheduling my week to make time for a mate
00:22:43Mate hmm mate significant other partner, whatever you want to call it
00:23:02You
00:23:18So sweetie when we get to school I'm gonna run in really quick and talk to mr. Tanner why
00:23:23Well, there's a new set of color corrective lenses that I want to tell him about he'll probably be at the front door
00:23:28Okay, good
00:23:30The moms really like it when he's out there
00:23:33I'm sure they do. He's keeping all the kids safe. That's not why
00:23:37It isn't they like it because they think he's handsome
00:23:43Look at that we're here
00:23:53Get to class I don't you being late? Okay. Love you mom. Love you too, sweetie
00:24:00I
00:24:12Morning morning
00:24:15Morning
00:24:16Hi, dr. Stephens. Good morning. Mr. Tanner morning. Miss underhill. Have a lovely day you too
00:24:22So
00:24:28Mr. Tanner I am calling right? Okay Ryan
00:24:35So I just was hoping I could speak with you for a moment I am
00:24:39I'm an optometrist
00:24:41as you know and
00:24:43I was just reading about this clinical trial for patients who are colorblind
00:24:50There are these brand-new state-of-the-art lenses that are showing great promise and it made me think of you why is that?
00:24:58well, I
00:25:00Mean I've seen some signs signs
00:25:05Yes
00:25:06Signs that have led me to believe that you may be or actually probably are
00:25:14colorblind
00:25:17And
00:25:19Just so you know, I've I have worked with many patients who suffer from this exact same conditions. I'm not
00:25:26suffering
00:25:27No, no us what I meant Ryan is that I have studied this extensively and these lenses are so exciting
00:25:35They have the potential to really change people's lives. I
00:25:41Guess I was
00:25:43Assuming you would react differently to this information
00:25:47And I was
00:25:48Hoping I could maybe get you into my office for a full evaluation and then submit you for the clinical trial
00:25:56Why don't you just forget that? I said it I am
00:25:59Seems to be pretty clear, but I offended you and I am so sorry if I did so
00:26:06Dr. Stephens wait
00:26:10Hey there
00:26:11Are we still in for basketball practice after school you bet? Okay, great
00:26:15well, I'd love you to show me a few of those plays you mentioned, of course and
00:26:21After maybe you want to play a little one-on-one sounds like fun. Okay, then see you later
00:26:29Girls basketball coach I
00:26:32Gathered. Yeah, I used to play in college. So she wants me to show her a few moves
00:26:37I'm sure she does
00:26:42I better get to class. I appreciate your concern. Dr. Stephens, but I
00:26:48Don't need any help
00:26:51Okay
00:27:11I
00:27:42You
00:27:47Hey
00:27:48Hey
00:27:49Professor I was gonna stop by later to see how it went with Debbie
00:27:52Tell me there's a second date in the works. We didn't even get through the first. No, what happened?
00:27:58I don't think I fit her definition of a worthy mate worthy mate. Yeah. Okay. Well forget about Debbie
00:28:05I'm gonna make it up to you. I know this woman. I'm not doing this again. No, no, hear me out, man
00:28:10She is sweet as a teddy bear. She teaches yoga and is a nutritionist. So right off the bat
00:28:15You've got that science thing going on for you, right?
00:28:18Listen, I'm going into hibernation for the holidays
00:28:22Let's say randomly bump into my soulmate
00:28:25I'm perfectly fine being alone for a while. Okay suit yourself
00:28:29Hey, let's grab a drink soon. All right, definitely still love you, buddy
00:28:34Oh
00:28:36Sorry, I didn't didn't see you there I'd make a joke about not seeing you but you'd probably drag me to the ER
00:28:45Funny
00:28:50I'm actually glad I ran into you
00:28:52Really? Yeah, I am. I
00:28:55Wanted to ask why did you take Bailey's Christmas tree down? Oh
00:28:59Oh
00:29:01Well, it's just
00:29:03All those blinking lights, you know, they just command your attention
00:29:07It is a Christmas tree. I
00:29:09Know but I was very upfront with you about it. I
00:29:14don't allow Christmas decorations in my classroom and
00:29:19Being honest just sort of
00:29:21Forced me into it
00:29:24The kids wanted it to stay I mean you saw how their faces lit up
00:29:29Yeah, but kids don't always know what's most conducive to their work
00:29:34As they say teacher knows best
00:29:37I'm gonna let the whole Christmas tree thing go. Okay, I
00:29:41It is your classroom and I shouldn't have forced my opinion on you. So I'm sorry
00:29:47but
00:29:49I'm not gonna give up on you. I'm determined to help. I really am. I
00:29:55Just hope you decide to let me
00:30:00Have a good rest of your day
00:30:14Hey
00:30:15Hey, what's this? Just some peppermint bark for your customers. That looks amazing. Did you make it? I
00:30:23Made a trip to the store and I bought it
00:30:27It's still delicious though, I tried some on the way over. Thank you so much. I appreciate it. Um, what's the latest?
00:30:33It's so weird. Actually, I keep bumping into Bailey's science teacher
00:30:38The hottie teacher all the moms have a thing for
00:30:42Not all the moms but yes, that is the one
00:30:46You know randomly bumping into each other. This could be a sign. Did he make a pass at you? No
00:30:52Maybe you should make a pass at him. No, what stop?
00:30:56I
00:30:58See, um
00:31:00You know, he's colorblind
00:31:02Really? Yeah, I had a hunch about it and it turns out it was right and there's this great clinical trial going on right now
00:31:10They could really help him out
00:31:11The application deadline for the trial is tomorrow
00:31:14But I brought it up to him. He just wanted nothing to do with it
00:31:19That's weird. Maybe it's a pride thing
00:31:22maybe but I
00:31:25Don't know I'm
00:31:26I'm kind of thinking I want to just submit him. Anyway, is that bad like without his permission? It could change his life Heidi
00:31:35Isn't there some kind of ethical optometrist code you'd be breaking?
00:31:38It's just it's just an application. You don't need consent for an application and you know, if he got in
00:31:45He doesn't have to agree to do it
00:31:48Why don't you just call him up see if you can convince him?
00:31:52He's my daughter's teacher Heidi, I can't just call him up it'll seem like I'm
00:31:58Coming on to him or something
00:32:00Don't seem to bother all the other moms
00:32:03Besides you're his doctor. So it's strictly professional and you did just say you don't have a thing for him
00:32:11It's not exactly what I said, well then the answer is obvious call him
00:32:21You
00:32:32Okay
00:32:43Hello, you've reached Ryan Tanner, please leave a message and I'll call you back
00:32:48Ryan hi, uh, it's uh, it's dr. Stephens. See I told you I wouldn't give up on you
00:32:55Still though, I I hope
00:32:58You don't find this too forward
00:33:00although you probably will because it
00:33:03Kind of is anyway
00:33:05The more I read about these new color corrective lenses that the more I'm convinced that you really should give them a try
00:33:12I'm willing to fill out the paperwork for you and submit you as a candidate. I just
00:33:18Just thought it would be overstepping if I did all that without your permission
00:33:22so, um
00:33:24Just let me know if you happen to change your mind about it. I
00:33:29really hope you do and
00:33:31That's uh, that's it
00:33:34so I
00:33:36Hope you're having a good night
00:33:40Okay, bye
00:33:47Worst voicemail ever. Good morning. Have a good day, sweetheart
00:33:59Hey, hey, how's it going? Good. It's a really nice job. Oh, thank you. No, I think I've had it for a while
00:34:07Thanks
00:34:09I
00:34:16Haven't you called me back
00:34:25I'm just gonna do it. I'm just gonna do it. I don't want this opportunity to pass. I'm just gonna hey Stacy. Yes
00:34:33Can you hold all my calls? I have something I have to do. That's really time-sensitive. Yeah, you got it holding all calls
00:34:39Thank you
00:34:47Let's do it
00:34:57Okay, well I'm heading out for the day I'm gonna go pick up Bailey is there anything else
00:35:01Let's see
00:35:02Tomorrow's appointments are all confirmed. It's great. Is that all there is one message
00:35:08Any caller asked that I flag it urgent?
00:35:12Let me guess mark
00:35:15Look I'm happy to act as the middleman between you and your ex on this one-sided dialogue for as long as you like, but
00:35:22Eventually, you're gonna have to talk to him. You know, it might help bring the closure you both need
00:35:28So we can get so wise I read a lot of self-help books
00:35:33Well, thank you Stacy, okay, well I'll see you tomorrow, right
00:35:38I
00:36:05Love
00:36:08You
00:36:12Mark you scared the life out of me
00:36:15I'm sorry. I was just in the neighborhood wondering if you wanted to grab a coffee or something. I
00:36:20Have a proposal. I want to run by you. I really can't right now. What I'm late already and I have to pick up Bailey
00:36:28Michelle it's not fair to ignore me like this. I just want to talk. I
00:36:32Know I'm sorry. It's just things have been really busy lately and I
00:36:38Promise I'll make some time soon. Okay, just I really I really have to go right now. Okay
00:36:44I'm sorry. I scared you
00:36:48Okay
00:36:57I miss him to Bailey
00:36:59I
00:37:10Remember our last Christmas together
00:37:13You do I remember I was going to the Christmas tree lot that year dad found the perfect tree
00:37:20He always did
00:37:22It was really cold that night remember
00:37:25I do and you were shivering and when dad noticed he took off his jacket and put over your shoulders
00:37:32Mom, I just had one big Christmas wish for Santa this year. Yeah
00:37:38It's not something they can make in this toy shop. I said that Santa could make it happen. Then I didn't need any other presents
00:37:46What is it I can't tell you you know that
00:37:55One thing I do know
00:37:57Is that whether Santa makes that wish come true or not?
00:38:01We are gonna have the best Christmas ever. I promise. Okay
00:38:05I
00:38:09Love you, baby tip
00:38:24Hello Brian, hi, it's dr. Stephens. Hi, dr. Stephens. Uh
00:38:30Sorry, I haven't got back to you yet. Oh, it's it's okay. It's a busy time of year. So
00:38:35What's up, oh
00:38:37Well, I I actually have some some exciting news
00:38:42Yeah, what's that? Do you remember that clinical trial? I told you about I do
00:38:48Well, I I submitted an application and it turns out wait who?
00:38:54submitted an application
00:38:56For me sort of I mean, um, yes
00:39:02to the trial
00:39:04Yeah
00:39:05Without my consent. I tried reaching out to you. The deadline was approaching and I hadn't heard back
00:39:10So I thought that maybe it was I can't believe it
00:39:13well
00:39:15You were accepted
00:39:21I don't mean to pressure you into doing anything. You don't want to do could have fooled me. I'm sorry
00:39:27You don't have to commit. I just wanted to be able to at least have the option for you
00:39:32and if you don't want them I can
00:39:34Send them back or I can find another patient that might be able to use them
00:39:40And if you don't never want to hear from me again or talk to me I completely understand
00:39:50Right, are you still there?
00:39:55So
00:39:58When should I come in
00:40:01I
00:40:03Okay, great, um, I'm free now if you if you want to come in
00:40:16Ryan hi
00:40:18Dr. Stephens call me Michelle, please
00:40:22Okay, I'm glad you decided to come in and do this. I got the feeling you wouldn't give up until I did
00:40:28You're probably right when I think I can help someone I tend to be a little bit unyielding. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I got that
00:40:36Well, why don't we get started take a seat sure
00:40:40So before we get into the actual lenses, I'm gonna give you something called the Ishahara test. Are you familiar with it?
00:40:46I took it once before
00:40:48Okay, great. How long ago?
00:40:51Few years, maybe
00:40:53Never as a child
00:40:55My mom and dad both worked so we always lived paycheck to paycheck and there wasn't any extra money for things like eye exams
00:41:02I mean, I did well in school and I played a couple sports so they never had any reason to be concerned
00:41:09wait, so
00:41:11Are you saying that your parents didn't know about this?
00:41:15Still don't
00:41:17Why didn't you ever tell them
00:41:20Took me a while to figure out that the way I saw the world was
00:41:24Different than the way other side
00:41:28Once I did I kept it to myself
00:41:32Part of it was the feeling that something was wrong with me. I
00:41:37Was ashamed I guess
00:41:39and my parents life wasn't exactly easy and I didn't want to burden them with anything else and you know years went by and
00:41:47The longer you keep a secret
00:41:50Harder it is to reveal the truth
00:41:54Well
00:41:56When I was reviewing your file, I didn't see any record of you actually ever taking the test
00:42:02It's classified
00:42:04part of a government screening
00:42:06classified
00:42:08Okay. Well now that's interesting
00:42:11You're too busy for me to
00:42:13Bore you with all that. No. No, I I have a policy that I never rush my patients
00:42:18So, please don't worry about that. I like that policy
00:42:21But sometimes after a long day teaching kids, I can't stand to hear myself speak
00:42:30Fair enough
00:42:31Well, you should know that your class is Bailey's favorite at school
00:42:35Even though you are a little bit of a scrooge
00:42:38yeah, uh, well your daughter is one bright girl and
00:42:42More importantly she's kind to her classmates. That's really nice to hear that
00:42:46And I know that she really respects you as a teacher
00:42:49Even though I think she does like to push her buttons every now and then. Oh, yeah
00:42:53Yeah, she and her friends get a real kick out of that
00:42:58Okay, so why don't we just dive in then do you remember how any of this works I do okay, um, so
00:43:08Start right here. What number do you see here? I
00:43:13Don't I don't see a number. Okay, but out on this page. What number do you see here?
00:43:19I
00:43:24Still don't see one. Okay, and this one right here. I
00:43:33Knew I shouldn't have done this
00:43:36What?
00:43:37How did you know that my shirt was blue that day at the school?
00:43:42Got lucky I could tell it wasn't black or white. I just played the odds
00:43:49Your condition is rather acute Ryan
00:43:53But like I said, these these new lenses are showing a lot of time get the lenses
00:43:57Okay, I
00:43:59I've tried everything there is red contacts holistic remedies those drops and just about that every pair of glasses on the market
00:44:08Nothing's worked
00:44:10And I'm tired of getting my hopes up only to be let down again. I
00:44:14Understand that but these glasses are being delivered today to my office. Why not? Just give them a shot and see what happens. I
00:44:23I've come to accept that my life will always be in black and white and I've figured out how to be okay with that
00:44:31So if that's all I have been dismissed reports of fish
00:44:43I'm really sorry. You feel that way, right? No, I'm sorry to you
00:45:06I just finished cleaning my room mom
00:45:09I
00:45:11Should put away all your clothes like I asked. Yep. Okay good. Well dinners in the oven. It should be ready soon
00:45:18What's this oh
00:45:20Those are the color corrective lenses. I told you about are they for mr. Tanner?
00:45:26Well, they were but I wasn't able to convince him to try them. I think I was being a little bit too pushy
00:45:32That's okay, mom. You know why?
00:45:34Why?
00:45:36Because you're just trying to help and helping others is always the right thing to do
00:45:41You're right
00:46:06Bailey
00:46:11Hurry up we're gonna be late coming mom
00:46:27Okay
00:46:29mom
00:46:30You go make observations reflect on your results and draw conclusions
00:46:38All right, everyone I'll see you all tomorrow great work today
00:46:47Make sure y'all button up. It's cold out there
00:47:01You
00:47:07Dear mr. Tanner
00:47:09These glasses aren't magic. They're science and you taught me that science should give us hope
00:47:17sincerely Bailey Stevens
00:47:31You
00:47:38Hey, sweetie, how was your day at school good? Yeah
00:47:48Bailey Stevens, what did you do? Sorry mom. I guess I'm as pushy as you are. Oh
00:47:55Okay
00:47:57What why don't you go play with your your friends for a moment, I'll be right back out
00:48:27You

00:49:27beyond description

00:49:43You can only imagine you must feel like a whole new world it is
00:49:52So, what do you want to see next
00:49:57Everything
00:49:59Yeah, I want to see everything
00:50:02Okay, we'll start there. We'll start with everything. I have a few ideas. Come on
00:50:18Right here right here. Yep. Are you ever gonna let me see where you're taking me? Yes, I will
00:50:24Just give me one second. Got the door
00:50:27Okay
00:50:38Okay ready yes, okay

00:51:04Hey there Michelle, hey you two Ryan, this is my sister Heidi and her husband Dan
00:51:10Nice to meet you Ryan Tanner. Hey Ryan
00:51:13Ryan is Bailey's favorite teacher. Is that right? Mm-hmm. He's also Brighton Elementary's infamous Scrooge
00:51:22No, this is true, it's true, I mean you've witnessed it yourself
00:51:27Yes, I kind of have yeah, you know, I know one way you could repair your reputation
00:51:32I'm all ears decorate your classroom for Christmas
00:51:36stop
00:51:37We really appreciate you coming by to lend a hand. I mean look at all this
00:51:41Response this year. It's been incredible. Yeah. Wow, it's even more than last year
00:51:46so
00:51:47Should we get to it? Let's do it
00:51:50You ready to wrap some presents? Oh, yeah
00:52:08Oh

00:52:28Very nice you're getting better
00:52:30We
00:52:35Call this color that is turquoise
00:52:40The sky can be turquoise, right? Yeah, the sky can't be turquoise. You know, what else is turquoise the waters of the Caribbean really?
00:52:48The water of the Caribbean is this color. Yep. Well, I have to get down and go swimming in that water
00:52:53Let's trip for sure. Oh
00:52:56Oh
00:52:58There is one more thing I want to show you but we have to leave now if we're gonna make it
00:53:02Ready when you are I think you're gonna fall in love with this next thing you see I believe you
00:53:18Hey nice job Ryan, thank you
00:53:22If you guys are all set we're gonna head out yeah, it looks like we're just about finished here
00:53:27Hey, do you want me to pick up Bailey from play rehearsal? If that helps then? Yeah, that would be great
00:53:32I'll just pick her up at your house in a couple hours if that's okay. Take your time
00:53:36Thank you
00:53:38It was nice meeting you both. Thank you
00:53:44Not yet, no you were about to see something so special
00:53:49Can I put them on yet not yet be patient
00:53:55We're almost there I think right here is perfect
00:54:00Okay, you move on now
00:54:19Sorry, I don't want me to get jumped up like this
00:54:22promise
00:54:23No, if I believe that I think deep down just a big softy
00:54:33It's like
00:54:35I've been living my whole life in the shadows
00:54:38And suddenly someone came along and flicked on the light
00:54:44Just like that I'm seeing the extraordinary beauty of the world for the first time
00:54:48I
00:54:50I
00:55:16Have a question. Mm-hmm. Why are red and green?
00:55:20considered Christmas colors
00:55:22well
00:55:23Santa wears a red suit. So does mrs. Was
00:55:27ribbons bows and stockings are all usually red and then
00:55:31Christmas trees and greens are green
00:55:34So is mistletoe
00:55:37Parasitic plant
00:55:39What does mistletoe have to do with Christmas are you being serious?
00:55:45You've never heard of the tradition of hanging mistletoe Oh
00:55:48Oh
00:55:50Come on you haven't seen it in a Christmas movie or something. I
00:55:56Don't watch Christmas movies. Oh, wow. You're even more of a Scrooge than I thought you were
00:56:07My mom used to take me here every year when I was a kid. Yeah. Yeah, I remember her saying grab your coat Ryan
00:56:13We're going to the Christmas tree lighting. Yeah, I didn't want to give away my secrets
00:56:19Bundle up off we go
00:56:21when the lights we come on and everyone
00:56:24Boo and ah, I couldn't share in that feeling
00:56:28It's one of the reasons I've harbored this resentment toward Christmas
00:56:35The magic was lost up, you know
00:56:39Since I moved out of my parents house after high school, I've never once had a Christmas tree in my own home never
00:56:46Oh
00:56:47There's no point
00:56:51Hello everyone and welcome to Centerville's annual Christmas tree lighting
00:57:00Thank you, I appreciate it and I love you all too
00:57:04This is one of the city's longest-running traditions dating back to
00:57:081930 when during the Great Depression a few of the town folk trekked into the forest and brought back a beautiful spruce
00:57:16Which they erected right here in this very spot
00:57:20the purpose was to bring people together to lift everyone's spirits with a little Christmas cheer and
00:57:27Inspire people to remember and recognize the true blessings in life
00:57:32Even in difficult times. So as we celebrate another holiday season, I
00:57:39Want you all to remember that Christmas is as much about gratitude as it is about giving and receiving
00:57:46I want to thank each and every one of you for coming out tonight and
00:57:49For putting your faith in me to help govern this town that we all love so dearly
00:57:56Thank you, thank you, so what do you say we see what this beautiful tree looks like all the way up
00:58:04Let's count it down from five
00:58:08Three
00:58:16Christmas everyone
00:58:26So this is Christmas most colorful time of year
00:58:35You know for the first time in my life I actually get it
00:58:46So
00:58:51Did you mr. Tanner have fun together we did yeah
00:58:56Do you think you'll go on more dates with him? Oh
00:58:59Sweetie it it wasn't a date. I'm just helping. Mr. Tanner adjust to his new life with the glasses
00:59:06Anyway, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to date. Mr. Tanner. Why?
00:59:10Well because he's your teacher sweetie
00:59:13Not after Christmas
00:59:16I'm mrs. Johansson for earth science next semester. Oh
00:59:21That's right, isn't it so technically he won't be my teacher anymore just saying
00:59:29Well, I am seeing him tomorrow, but it's strictly professional okay, whatever you say mom
00:59:46Wow
00:59:50Save the best for last
00:59:59Is this all real
01:00:01No, it's not actually it's a it's all a world of illusion and created by an enchantress. Hello
01:00:09Nice to see you again Ryan. Yeah, and I see too honey. Hey, if you guys need anything, just give me a shout
01:00:15Can I offer either of you a hot chocolate, oh
01:00:18I would love one. Yeah, it sounds amazing. Thank you. All right, feel free to take a look around. I'll bring it out
01:00:27So roses are red, uh-huh
01:00:32and
01:00:35Violets
01:00:37Yeah
01:00:39That little jingle is actually misleading if you count all the shades roses come in dozens of colors and while violets are mostly purple
01:00:46Or blue that can also be white red pink coral even yellow and green
01:00:52flower nerd over here
01:00:54Educational I'm gonna go help my customers. But if you need a refill, just give me a shout. Thank you Heidi. Thanks
01:01:00Mm-hmm. Oh, it's might be one of the best hot chocolate. We've tried easily. Yeah
01:01:07No, that's yeah, is it?
01:01:13Thank you
01:01:26You know, I'm not sure I'm gonna like this
01:01:30Interesting what flowers have always been white or shades of gray to me and they've never had a scent
01:01:40No people would always say here some of the flowers and I would but I got nothing I
01:01:46don't know if it's some kind of
01:01:49Sensory effect or maybe something's firing now that wasn't firing before
01:01:53Or it could be that they could see in colors for the first time open pathways in my brain that were closed off
01:02:00It's probably a combination of all of that
01:02:03One thing's for sure
01:02:05These lenses are amazing. Yeah, I'm just happy you finally agreed to try them
01:02:09I just become convinced that nothing was ever going to work
01:02:15You and Bailey changed that
01:02:21Another miracle of modern science ceaseless connectivity. No, she's like completely forgot
01:02:30Gabby I told her I'd help with practice this afternoon. No, I'm sorry. I just have to take yeah, go ahead
01:02:36Hey, Gabby
01:02:38Yeah, yeah, I'll be there. No, I told you I'd be happy to
01:02:44It's been fun working with the team. Okay. See you then
01:02:51So sorry to cut this short, it's just a trauma side you don't need to explain I get it I
01:02:57Know that Gabby it seems really excited to have you out. Oh, I better get going
01:03:06Thanks again, Michelle and please thank your sister for me. Hey, well
01:03:12You
01:03:24Keep your eyes open guys eyes on the ball
01:03:30Keep your head up guys. Keep watching
01:03:33Guys keep your eyes on the ball. Don't forget
01:03:37That was good good job Zoe
01:03:42Oh
01:03:49Hey there, hey Gabby, I didn't know you wore glasses. Oh, yeah. Yeah, they're new they're for this
01:03:57Anyway, it doesn't matter. Well, whatever they're for. I like them
01:04:01Um, anyway, so I was wondering if you were free after practice. Oh
01:04:05Oh
01:04:07Because I'd love to take you out to dinner just a quick bite as a thank you for all your hard work
01:04:12You don't have to do that. Are you kidding me? It's the least I can do you got these girls playing like all-stars
01:04:20Okay, great, it'll be fun I promise
01:04:31Take it away
01:04:35I
01:04:54Told you we would talk soon
01:04:57Sorry, it's just in the area
01:05:00Again really? That's a coincidence. Please. I just want to talk for a minute. Can I come in?
01:05:07Sure, come on in
01:05:10Thanks
01:05:15I
01:05:16Know I made some mistakes, but when you broke it off. I
01:05:20Realized just how much you meant to me Mark. I really don't want to be doing this right now
01:05:25Okay, fine, but can I just make one simple request?

01:09:45You're so good, though Bailey. How you been?
01:09:48Good
01:09:50You're great up there tonight. Thank you. Mr. Tanner

01:10:11Ryan you remember mark
01:10:14Yeah video conference beginning of the year good to meet you in person
01:10:18Ryan, huh? You two are on a first-name basis
01:10:21Ryan is a patient of mine or was but we're just friends. Yeah, that's nice
01:10:32So Ryan
01:10:35How'd you get into the teaching profession?
01:10:37It's a long story. I work in the stock market. I'm a dollars and cents kind of guy
01:10:43If you don't mind my asking what is a job like yours pay?
01:10:46What is a job like yours pay are you seriously asking him that come on it's okay
01:10:56If you ask a lot of teachers will tell you they feel called to the profession
01:11:02They know the pay but they do it anyway
01:11:05They do it because they understand educating our children is one of the most important things we can do
01:11:12What I get paid is an afterthought
01:11:14The real reward
01:11:16comes from seeing kids develop a passion for science kids who might carry that passion through life might
01:11:24Make a career of it might even discover something that could make all of our lives better
01:11:29That's my compensation and frankly that's worth more than any amount of money
01:11:36Now if you'll excuse me
01:11:40Merry Christmas Michelle
01:11:45I
01:11:49Feel so stupid right now
01:11:53before
01:11:54Forever believing that you could actually be right for me. What are you talking about? I am right for you
01:12:04Goodbye mark for good this time, but honey, let's go

01:14:40Never look I won't get into Mark's sordid history as a boyfriend
01:14:44But let me assure you they are over and will remain that way for the rest of their lives. Oh

01:15:20She actually was very simple about it. She said she appreciated my honesty and gave me a kiss on the cheek
01:15:27That's it. That's where
01:15:30hmm
01:15:31What's the shame Michelle didn't know about this?
