00:00So Dr. Chow, let's start with what happened yesterday in Dallas.
00:07Aiden Hutchinson for the Lions, despite a monumental Detroit victory, is likely out
00:13for the rest of this season.
00:15A broken tibia on a gruesome and significant lower leg injury.
00:20Doc, of course, his season has come to a close, but we want that insight.
00:25What is the recovery process like for the promising young edge rusher for Detroit?
00:30Yeah, and for those who love graphic stuff, otherwise don't look at my Twitter handle,
00:37ProFootballDoc, there's some slowdown zoomed in video.
00:40Literally, his lower leg wraps around a teammate's lower leg.
00:44It literally bends like it's rubber.
00:47And not only is his tibia broken, the fibula is broken too.
00:51Why do the Lions just talk about the tibia?
00:53Because that's the bigger bone and that's the only one that needed the urgent emergent
00:58surgery with a rock.
00:59The fibula, the associated bone, will heal on its own.
01:02So does the tibia and fibula fracture.
01:04That's why he had surgery, unstable fracture, before he even flew home.
01:10And the good news, and I always try and focus on good news, as you guys know, is this is
01:14not an Alex Smith injury.
01:17This is not an open wound or a compound fracture.
01:20This should not get infected.
01:22He will come back full go, unlike Alex Smith, who was a little bit of a shell of himself
01:27because of the nature of the injury.
01:29That was a plating surgery.
01:31That was dirt or sock in the wound.
01:33This is not that early surgery.
01:36Expect full recovery in 2025.
01:40But for the season 2025, I'm hearing chatter about Super Bowl, if he can get there.
01:46Look, I don't want to douse anyone's dreams.
01:48I mean, a lot of people go to the convenience store and try and win the lottery, but not
01:53many do.
01:54And let's just hope for the good, clean recovery.
01:57Even if his bone were healed, he's not going to be in shape to play and be Aiden Hutchinson.
02:02No way, no how, but let's take solace in that he'll be fine for next season.
