Head teacher leaves school to become Director of Education

One of Hartlepool’s long-serving head teachers is leaving his current role and starting a new position as Director of Education for the Newcastle and Durham dioceses.

00:00I'm with David Akers, the Headteacher at Ward Jackson Primary. Did I get that bit right?
00:05Yeah, that's right.
00:06Thank you, sir. You due to retire?
00:08Not retiring, just moving on to a new role within the region.
00:13So going on to be the Director of Education for the Diocese of Newcastle and Durham.
00:19How long have you been here?
00:21This is going into my 11th year now, so eight years as Headteacher and three years as Deputy.
00:28You must have seen some changes. What's been the changes for the best?
00:32I think the way that we've really come together as a community.
00:36That's been incredible to see, seeing the children grow and develop.
00:40And I think the relationships we've established, not just within our own school, but wider,
00:45has been a real testament to the love that's at the centre of our school.
