00:30Good Morning America said it's a rollercoaster ride of a movie.
00:34I think his arm's bruised.
00:36Rex Reed called it a terrific thriller.
00:39Pure entertainment, raved CNN.
00:42Siskel and Ebert gave it two thumbs up.
00:45And ABC TV said it's nothing but fun.
00:49He's never heard me scream so loud.
00:52The over $50 million hit they're all talking about?
00:55Rock and roll!
00:57Arachnophobia.
01:01What we're trying to do in this picture is really give you a fun house.
01:04Where you're scared, but you're having fun.
01:06Almost like a rollercoaster ride, you know, when you're...
01:09Oh, it's gonna happen, but you're still got your eyes open and you're not hiding under the seat.
01:15Frank Marshall, making his directorial debut on Arachnophobia,
01:19is best known as producer on some of the big screen's biggest hits, including E.T.
01:25My experience with these kind of films started with Raiders of the Lost Ark,
01:28where I had to deal with 7 or 8,000 snakes.
01:32Then we moved up to bugs in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,
01:36which I think was sort of a good prelude to this movie.
01:41Found out what bugs can do and what bugs can't do.
01:45How would Indiana Jones react?
01:47Arachnophobia stars Jeff Daniels and John Goodman.
01:50Arachnophobia stars Jeff Daniels and John Goodman.
01:54But perhaps the real stars are those pesky little intruders.
01:58And how did they get hold of so many of them?
02:01Well, after all, this is Hollywood.
02:03They had to audition, just like everybody else.
02:07In order to find the right spider for our film, we had to put on sort of a spider Olympics.
02:12And then we found the gold medalist, which is a Delaina spider from New Zealand.
02:17And we got them all little passports.
02:19And they came over here to the United States and they're now here working on the set.
02:24And they're very happy in their spider condo.
02:27One of the things I learned in my second unit directing days was
02:31the only way that this is going to be scary is to include the spiders in the same shot with the actors.
02:37And so we've been designing the shots.
02:40So when you start on a person, you pan over, there's a spider there.
02:44And the audience will know that these spiders are very, very close to all the actors.
02:49Arachnophobia.
02:51All the thrills.
02:54All the fun.
02:55Are you alright?
02:59Coming to home video.
03:01I'll remember that.
03:02It's the most fun you can have being scared.
03:05Hello.
03:08You can imagine the rest.
03:10Arachnophobia.
03:11Coming to video in March.
