00:00I was in the kitchen, and my iPhone buzzed.
00:06Don't know if you heard, but Scott Pinney
00:08passed away last night.
00:10We're trying to get a hold of his wife and parents.
00:16It didn't make any sense.
00:18Text message made no sense.
00:21He was in Kona, and he did what we did together a lot.
00:26He went for a run.
00:29From what I understand, he had a cardiac event,
00:31a heart arrhythmia.
00:33He didn't make it.
00:37We became great friends.
00:39He's always taken care of me.
00:42And I just really, I really love the guy,
00:45and I appreciate you making the best man.
00:48It means a lot to me.
00:50It was the first time somebody meaningful and significant
00:54currently in my life had just vanished.
01:05There's no right way to grieve, I don't think.
01:09I can tell you what my experience was like.
01:13And we did that by drinking a lot of gin and tonics,
01:18because that was kind of Scott's drink.
01:21You know, now, with hindsight,
01:23that's not a successful coping mechanism.
01:26But that's where I went quite a bit.
01:30It was a way to not fully experience
01:33the overwhelming pain of loss.
01:38I had mentioned to him, talking to a therapist,
01:43just because I just could tell, like, he was hurting.
01:47As we were working through this, my therapist said,
01:50would you ever consider going to see a psychiatrist, you know,
01:54that might be able to put you on an antidepressant?
01:57And I was like, I don't think I can.
01:59I was like, why don't you consider it, you know?
02:02Not realizing the implications at all.
02:05And he, like, you know, is, like, forceful with his,
02:08like, kind of just like, no, I can't do that.
02:11Based on your research, what would be potential consequences
02:15if you were to get on an SSR?
02:18I would immediately not be able to fly airplanes.
