02:17President Joe Biden had pressed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for being cooperative and doing
02:24a great job in his response to Hurricanes Helen and Milton, despite Vice President Kamala
02:31Harris slamming DeSantis for playing political games, instead of doing his job in response
02:37to the storms.
02:39NBC News had reported on Monday that DeSantis was denying phone calls from Harasser's team.
02:46People are in desperate need of support right now and playing political games with this
02:51moment.
02:52In these crisis situations, these are the height of emergency situations, it's just
02:57utterly irresponsible, and it is selfish, Harris told reporters Monday.
03:03Meanwhile, on Tuesday, President Joe Biden's opinion about the Florida Governor's response
03:09to Hurricane Helen and his preparation for Milton diverged substantially from that of
03:14his Vice Presidents.
03:16The Governor of Florida has been cooperative.
03:19He said he's gotten all that he needs.
03:22I talked to him again yesterday, and I said, no, you're doing a great job.
03:28It's all being done well and we thank you for it, Biden said at a press conference from
03:34the White House Tuesday.
03:36There was a rough start in some places, but every governor, every governor, from Florida
03:42to North Carolina, has been fully cooperative and supportive.
03:47Ahead of Wednesday, Florida authorities informed those who do not want to evacuate ahead of
03:53Hurricane Milton to mark themselves with their names and the phone number of a family member

04:03In comments highlighted by Midnight, CNN's Paul Murphy on Tuesday repeated the message
04:09of a police chief he spoke with, if you stay, they cannot get you.
04:14They were able to do some water rescues in Hurricane Helen that will not happen with
04:20Milton, Murphy said.
04:23Once the winds, which are forecasted to start here at tropical storm force gusts, once they
04:29start tomorrow at around 8 a.m., he expects that by noon, they are not going to be able,
04:36they are going to have to evacuate the island themselves.
04:40So starting at noon tomorrow, if you're here, there will not be help coming for you.
04:46You are on your own.
04:48It was unclear which island Murphy was referring to.
04:52It's that same message we're hearing from officials, write your name, write your number,
04:58write someone else's number, your date of birth on you, Murphy said.
05:04Because when they come looking for you, they want to know who to contact because you decided
05:09to stay.
05:10Tampa mayor Jane Castor issued a similar warning for Floridians on CNN on Monday night, saying
05:17she's never delivered such a dire message.
05:21This is literally catastrophic and I can say without any dramatization whatsoever, if you
05:26choose to stay in one of those evacuation areas, you're going to die, she said.
05:32This is something that I have never seen in my life, she continued.
05:38People need to get out.
05:40Storm battered Florida's breasts on Tuesday for a direct hit from massive Hurricane Milton,
05:45as people hurried to finish their storm preparations and flee from the second monster weather system
05:50in as many weeks.
05:52It's a matter of life and death, and that's not hyperbole, President Joe Biden said, urging
05:59those under evacuation orders to evacuate now, now, now.

06:10of 150 miles per hour and threatening up to 15 feet of storm surge as of Tuesday morning.
