06:19There is a reason why the media is called the fourth estate.
06:23It is a recognition of the power of the press
06:26to both frame public opinion on great political issues
06:30while at the same time act as a check of the abuses of government
06:35because of the influence of media on the minds of the people
06:39who are the real source of sovereignty.
06:42Of all the media organizations in the country,
06:45the Manila Times is the most venerable.
06:48Long before social media and its ephemeral trends,
06:52long before television and its sensationalism,
06:56even before radio became an omnipresence in the lives of every Filipino,
07:01the Manila Times was already there,
07:03delivering the news and shaping the opinion of thought leaders
07:07starting from the birth of our nation.
07:10No other newspaper can claim such lineage or such pervasive influence
07:15over so many generations of those who shaped the destiny of our country.
07:22With the advent of other sources of information
07:25and after undergoing so many challenges,
07:28the vision of the founders of the Manila Times lives on
07:32and shows no signs of slowing down.
07:36Methinks it shall live on for hundreds of years more
07:41long after today's events have become part of our history books.
07:45Born at the same time as the nation's birth,
07:49the Manila Times shall live as long as the Philippines shall live.
