00:00Oh my gosh, that's a trick question. That's like picking your favorite kid, literally.
00:04Hi, I'm Leslie Motter. I'm the CEO of Make-A-Wish America, and I am here at Fortune's COO Summit.
00:12When I was making the decision to come to Make-A-Wish, and I was in a for-profit world
00:19for decades before entering the nonprofit world, one of the things I did from a research perspective
00:25is I read a book, and that book was about a little girl in North Carolina named Hope Stout,
00:31and her wish was so beautiful, and when she found out that she was getting a wish,
00:38she also found out that there were other kids in North Carolina waiting for a wish, and so
00:43she ended up making her wish that the other children could get their wish in North Carolina,
00:48and that resonated with me so deeply that the power of these children continuing to
00:54help others despite what they're going through personally, that was Hope's
00:58Story was the name of the book, and that was one of the reasons I joined the organization.
