00:06The Improving Lung Health in Knowsley report outlined the severity of lung health across
00:09the borough.
00:10The health report centred on the most pressing respiratory diseases across the borough and
00:14detailed the severe impact of conditions such as COPD, asthma and lung cancer.
00:19Tobacco smoke was identified as one of the leading causes of lung cancer in Knowsley
00:23followed by air pollution and asbestos-related complications.
00:27Despite a reduction in the number of people smoking, rates in Knowsley are still among
00:31the highest in the country.
00:33Lung cancer deaths are particularly high in females and Knowsley has the second highest
00:37rate of premature lung cancer deaths in women for the whole country.
00:41The local authority have already introduced a series of measures to try and tackle the
00:44problem of lung disease.
00:46Earlier this year, Knowsley Council approved their Air Quality Strategy which will monitor
00:50the levels of pollution in the air, aiming to reduce carbon emissions in the borough.
00:55They are also hoping to eradicate smoking in the borough by 2030.
