00:15In November, it is now possible to release the cumulative impact assessment of the reclamation of Manila Bay that was first submitted by the Office of the President.
00:24This is what DNR Secretary Maria Antonia Yuluray-Saga said when the Senate Committee on Finance listened to the 2025 proposed budget of its government and attached agencies, which was led by Senator Sincha Villar.
00:36Which we deem absolutely imperative to have in order to then evaluate the suitability of the type of engineering that was proposed at the time of the submission to PRA.
00:50Senator Alan Peter Cayetano also gave an assurance that such projects will not be wasted when it comes to the possible consequences of it, such as flooding.
01:00At the end of the day Madam Chair, Mr. Senator, adaptive environmental governance needs to be driven by the science that is available and that is projected into the future because of the different changes we expect.
01:14Ms. Yuluray-Saga also added that they also contacted a regional planner to look at the possible effects of the proposed reclamation projects to see what needs to be done to sustain or maintain the project properly if it is done.
01:27We are producing a 3D visualization of the potential impact so it can be shown to the decision making as well as to the communities concerned.
01:38We hope to be able to present that to the Office of the President.
01:41Yes, the Office of the President since it was their directive for that impact assessment to be done.
01:49She is the one from here, the Office of the President who will decide on the next steps.
01:54Ms. Yuluray-Saga also added that when it comes to planning, both are looking at normal and extreme scenarios.
01:59Rod Laguzed for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
