00:00President Macron has met with Ukrainian soldiers training at a military base in France.
00:11Hurricane Milton has made landfall along Florida's Gulf Coast, bringing storm surges, intense
00:17winds and flooding.
00:22President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia's war in Ukraine must end no later than 2025,
00:28as he called for progress on his country's NATO membership.
00:31The situation on the battlefield creates an opportunity to make this choice, a choice
00:37for decisive action to end the war no later than in 2025.
00:43And we are counting on President Biden's leadership.
00:47We rely on the strong and wise steps of Britain, France, Germany and Italy to bring security
00:55and peace to Europe.
00:59Zelensky spoke while on a visit to the Croatian city of Dubrovnik, where he is participating
01:03in the third meeting of the Ukraine-Southeast Europe summit.
01:09The participants in the summit are expected to adopt a joint Dubrovnik declaration, similar
01:14to those signed at the summits in Athens and Tirana.
01:19Zelensky also signed an agreement with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, which pledges
01:24long-term cooperation between Croatia and Ukraine.
01:28Meanwhile, a spokesperson from Russia's foreign ministry said it will be impossible to achieve
01:33peace in Ukraine if the country joins the NATO alliance.
01:38In her weekly briefing, Maria Zakharova accused the West of attempting to turn Ukraine into
01:43a springboard for confrontation with Russia.
01:53For the first time, French President Emmanuel Macron met with Ukrainian soldiers trained
01:57on French territory on Wednesday.
02:00In this secret military base in eastern France, everything is done to replicate the exact
02:05conditions on the battlefield, like these trenches that have been specifically dug for
02:10the training.
02:11French military have had to adapt to the Ukrainian army's needs in their fight against Russia's
02:16full-scale invasion.
02:17Over the next two months, 2,300 Ukrainian soldiers will be trained in this camp.
02:42Most of them are young recruits who have already completed some sort of basic training course.
03:01France is the first country to train an entire Ukrainian brigade on its soil.
03:06This visit comes right before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's trip to Paris on Thursday
03:12for bilateral talks with the French leader.
03:15Sofia Katsenkova reporting from Paris for Euronews.
03:24Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban divided the European Parliament in the French city
03:29of Strasbourg.
03:31Orban's speech on Hungary's presidency received approval from radical right groups and critique
03:36from others.
03:39The head of Hungary's main opposition party, TISA, PΓ©ter Magyar, voiced his concern over
03:44Orban's address.
03:47He didn't give any reply to the questions concerning the collapsed health care system,
03:54the collapsed education system, the public transport, the collapsed Hungarian economy,
04:00the budget situation.
04:02He didn't reply anything.
04:03He just said some personal critics and spoke about Brussels bureaucracy and the fight between
04:11Hungary and the European Union.
04:13Several leftist MEPs protested against Orban's authoritarian rule outside of the chamber,
04:19some even boycotting his opening speech and entering only for the debate.
04:24They are especially concerned about respect for democracy and the rule of law in Hungary,
04:29as well as Orban's stance on immigration and foreign policy.
04:33Green MEP Daniel Freund openly called Orban a dictator.
04:40It's a lost presidency.
04:42We will see pretty much zero progress on any of the legislative negotiations.
04:47But then comes the additional risk where Orban misuses his presidency.
04:52And we have already seen that when he went to see Putin and Xi and Donald Trump.
04:58And I fear that we haven't seen all of that yet.
05:01We're facing an extremely tight U.S. election on the 5th of November.
05:06So what happens if Orban, on behalf of the European Union supposedly, tries to intervene
05:14into the U.S. election?
05:16The Hungarian prime minister received support from his political group, the Patriots for
05:20Europe and other far-right groups.
05:23It was a very concrete and focused intervention on the emergencies that a presidency should
05:30address.
05:31So with a particular focus on the issue of energy costs, on the competitiveness of European
05:38companies in dealing with foreign companies, with a focus also on the issue of border protection.
05:47At the end of the debate, Orban received applause from one side of the room and loud boos from
05:53the other.
05:58Addressing issues related to family and demography will be at the center of the upcoming European
06:03Congress on Family, organized by the ICR party in Croatia.
06:07In a briefing held in Rome, the parties' secretary-general Antonio Giordano, alongside representatives
06:13of Brothers of Italy, explained the focus of the event and why these topics are central
06:18to the conservatives' political agenda.
06:43A total of 300 delegates from around the world will attend the event, among them representatives
07:01from various right-wing forces.
07:03The ICR's party mission is to strengthen ties among conservatives around shared values,
07:09acting as a mediator among different parties.
07:13In the future, I hope to go even further to the left.
07:16Family is a very important issue.
07:18It is a very important issue for the European Union.
07:21It is a very important issue for the European Union.
07:24It is a very important issue for the European Union.
07:27It is a very important issue for the European Union.
07:30It is a very important issue for the European Union.
07:33It is a very important issue for the European Union.
07:36It is a very important issue for the European Union.
07:39In the future, I hope to go even further to the left.
07:42Family and the fight against the demographic crisis gripping Europe have long been central
07:47to the ICR and FDI's political agenda.
07:50In Italy, we undoubtedly have worrying numbers that should be put at the centre of the government's
08:00political agenda, which the government has already done with a series of distancing measures.
08:04Giorgio Orlandi, for Euronews, in Rome.
08:10The outbreak of war in the Middle East has raised serious concerns in Europe.
08:15On Friday, leaders from the nine Mediterranean countries which form the MEDNINE alliance
08:20are due to meet in Cyprus, where they will discuss the risks posed by the escalating
08:25conflict between Lebanon, Israel and Gaza, and explore ways to address the deepening
08:30humanitarian crisis.
08:33Cypriot democracy, through the Innocence Initiative, is well known that we have contributed
08:39to a very large extent in dealing with the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, but also through
08:44the implementation of the STI plan, the previous third, we have achieved, so far, the repatriation
08:51of 2,000 citizens from 20 countries, through the cooperation of 7 countries which used
08:59the areas of Cypriot democracy.
09:02Another major concern for Cyprus is the prospect of another wave of migration from the Middle
09:08East. The island has already been strained by a large influx of refugees, particularly
09:14Syrians arriving via Lebanon. And now, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulidis is warning
09:21that Cyprus has reached its limit.
09:24We must admit that in the last year, the influx of migrants to Cyprus has decreased
09:32to a large extent, but this situation in the area does not cease to exist. It is logical
09:38that people are tired, people who are looking for light at the end of the tunnel should
09:44try to come back to Cyprus at some point.
09:48In the troubled spring, Cyprus received a large number of refugees and migrants from
09:52Lebanon. Nikos Christodoulidis and Ursula von der Leyen flew to Virito, which also received
09:58a package of aid worth 1.2 million euros.
10:01But the extent of the war changes the facts. Med9 will examine ways of response, as a large
10:08number of people try to reach Europe through Cyprus and Greece.
10:13From Lefkosia for Euronews, Apostolos Taikos.
10:19Hurricane Milton has made landfall along Florida's Gulf Coast as a Category 3 storm, bringing
10:25life-threatening storm surges, flooding, rainfall and extreme winds.
10:33Gusts travelling as fast as 100 miles per hour have been reported in the Tampa Bay area,
10:38and flash flood warnings have been issued for nearly two million people in Tampa, St.
10:43Petersburg and Clearwater.
10:46More than a million people have currently lost power, and outages are expected to increase
10:52as Milton moves across the state.
10:56Shelters have been set up across the state for those who have had to evacuate their homes,
11:01and Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis has warned people to stay inside.
11:08Stay inside and stay off the roads. Floodwaters and rushing storm surge are very dangerous.
11:14Stay put until the storm has passed. If you are in Sarasota, Manatee, some of those areas
11:19where the eye of the storm is going, it may be where things calm down for a minute. Just
11:25understand that means you're in the eye, it's going to go back and get really nasty very
11:29soon, so don't go outdoors until it is confirmed safe.
11:33Search and rescue operations also continue after multiple tornadoes tore across Florida
11:38ahead of Milton's approach, destroying around 125 homes.
