00:00:00Preseason action at Golden One Center
00:00:03With the NBA regular season tipping off on ESPN with a doubleheader two weeks from tonight
00:00:13Starting lineups brought to you by Popeyes
00:00:15The Warriors won 46 games a year ago, but missed the playoffs as the 10 seed
00:00:21They lost to the Kings in the play-in tournament. This is how they will start tonight
00:00:25Kerry Brandon Pajewski started 28 games last year. Devon Looney, Draymond Green, Jonathan Kaminga
00:00:31Was one of the most improved players in the NBA last season
00:00:36And the Newark Kings with DeMar DeRozan joining Fox and Sabonis. Keegan Murray now in his third season and Keon Ellis
00:00:43former undrafted player out of Alabama
00:00:45Has turned into a very solid NBA player
00:00:56Well, he's done it all in his career, multiple championships as a player, multiple titles as an NBA head coach
00:01:03And now, Olympic gold as the head coach of Team USA this past summer
00:01:08He said he got to decompress, had a month break on the beach, playing some golf
00:01:12And now back to work as the head coach of the Warriors in year 11
00:01:18It's unique pressure that entire group was under in the Olympics
00:01:22It's different than a seven-game series, the pressure different than an NBA Finals game
00:01:27You're expected to win, it's complete failure if you don't come home with the gold
00:01:32I think that manifested, you saw it with both the players
00:01:35And Steve talked about that readily
00:01:38And Steph Curry, his first Olympic experience, obviously a big factor in those closeout games
00:01:43Devon Looney with the first basket of the game
00:01:47And here's De'Aaron Fox
00:01:49On the step back, can't knock it down
00:01:52And poked out to Ellis, they're going to call a foul underneath
00:01:56It's going to go on Looney
00:02:01Well, you mentioned Steve Kerr on the other side, you got Mike Brown in year 3
00:02:04As the head coach of the Sacramento Kings
00:02:07Coach of the year two years ago, he worked for Steve with the Warriors for many seasons
00:02:13And won three titles together
00:02:16And he told us as DeMar DeRozan hits the jumper
00:02:18That DeRozan's presence will do a lot for Fox
00:02:21And Savonis taking some of the offensive pressure off that duo
00:02:24Think about it, Fox two years ago won clutch player of the year
00:02:28It was absolutely dynamic in Mike Brown's first year late game
00:02:33And DeMar DeRozan, you have got another guy
00:02:36So that best defender on the opponent has got to pick
00:02:39Who am I guarding, Fox or DeRozan?
00:02:41That best defender on the opponent has got to pick
00:02:43Who am I guarding, Fox or DeRozan?
00:02:45Both are great late game shot makers
00:02:49Good ball movement by Sacramento
00:02:51The open three won't fall though for Murray
00:02:54Now Fox will try and really improve his three point shooting last year
00:02:58Unable to connect there
00:03:00Made 214 threes a year ago
00:03:02Was an All-Star two years ago
00:03:04And third team All-NBA
00:03:07Turnaround jumper
00:03:08Battles down for Kaminga
00:03:12DeRozan
00:03:17Here's DeRozan with the pull-up jumper
00:03:19The master of the mid-range as always
00:03:21Well just consistency
00:03:22You touched in the open about him fitting in with the culture
00:03:26And there is just a hum to his offensive abilities
00:03:31Kaminga from deep
00:03:32Won't fall, rebounds Savonis
00:03:34Led the NBA in rebounding the last two years
00:03:37Changed his number, went back to number 11 as Fox scores
00:03:41Savonis wore that in college
00:03:42And also his dad Arvides wore it when he was an NBA player
00:03:52Here's Curry
00:03:54Near 16 in the NBA
00:03:57Turns 37 in March
00:03:58Gives it up to Pachepsky
00:04:00Nice pass underneath
00:04:01And Green puts it in
00:04:03Pachepsky just great feel for the game
00:04:05Always seems to make the right decision
00:04:08First team All-Rookie last year
00:04:12Collision between Ellis and Murray
00:04:16Kevin Herter not available tonight
00:04:19Either he or Ellis will be that fifth starter for the Kings
00:04:23On opening night
00:04:24Savonis got pushed
00:04:27Out of position by Kaminga
00:04:28Let's watch DeMar DeRozan
00:04:30Doesn't matter the jersey
00:04:32The game very much the same
00:04:33A little more dribble handoff action for DeMar here
00:04:36Just feels where the defender is
00:04:38Stays behind Savonis
00:04:40And then this time
00:04:41Again you're getting the switch
00:04:42Looney is preventing the drive
00:04:44So he gives him that extra cushion
00:04:45And boom right to the mid-range
00:04:47That is his sweet spot
00:04:49Here's 16 for DeRozan
00:04:5135 years old
00:04:52Six-time All-Star
00:04:53There he is again with the mid-range shot
00:04:55Floating it up and in over Looney
00:04:58Just want you to think about consistent excellence
00:05:01Go back to the 13-14 season
00:05:04There is nobody who has played more total minutes than DeMar DeRozan
00:05:08He's infallible
00:05:09He's consistent in what he gives you night by night
00:05:12Offensively
00:05:13And a tremendous addition to this group
00:05:15So tough
00:05:16Great personality
00:05:17Every coach he's ever played for
00:05:19Says just a tremendous guy in the locker room
00:05:21As Kaminga soars and finishes
00:05:23At the rim
00:05:24They were having a discussion in studio
00:05:26About that young man
00:05:27That ability on fire right there
00:05:30And Savonis on the other end
00:05:31His first shot attempt goes down
00:05:35Pace
00:05:36Both of these teams want to play at a high pace
00:05:39Mike Brown and Steve Kerr
00:05:40Similar sentimentality
00:05:42Similar philosophies on how the game should be played
00:05:47Here's Savonis in the open floor
00:05:48Excellent passer
00:05:51Goes to the right hand and can't finish
00:05:53Looney who Steve Kerr said has had a tremendous training camp
00:05:57The assumption by a lot of people was
00:05:59Trace Jackson-Davis would be the starting five
00:06:01But seems like that position's up in the air
00:06:03Either Jackson-Davis or Looney
00:06:05But Draymond Green occasionally playing five
00:06:07Curry gets to the rim
00:06:08And scores off glass
00:06:15First shot attempt for Curry
00:06:16Who last year played in 74 games
00:06:18Averaged 26 points per game
00:06:23Nice cut by Fox
00:06:26Missed the first time and not the second
00:06:28But what do you notice?
00:06:29Who's the hub?
00:06:30The hub is Domas Savonis
00:06:35How much of the action from the Sacramento Kings
00:06:37Revolves around Domas at the elbow making decisions
00:06:41Eight assists per game last year
00:06:43Nice move by Murray around Looney
00:06:45And a timeout by Steve Kerr
00:06:47And the fans love what they're seeing offensively early on
00:06:49From the Kings
00:06:52Great start on offense
00:06:5458% shooting for Sacramento
00:06:57Murray with the score
00:07:03The NBA on ESPN
00:07:05Is presented by Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen
00:07:07Draymond Green and the Warriors were a different team
00:07:09With him last year
00:07:11He missed 27 games
00:07:1321 from either league suspension or team discipline
00:07:16And just look at how he influences the offense
00:07:19He's the hub of the Warriors offense
00:07:21As a distributor
00:07:23Obviously an excellent rebounder
00:07:25Also had a career high four ejections last year
00:07:27For the Warriors
00:07:29Without Clay Thompson
00:07:31Doris to be a playoff team
00:07:33They need Draymond Green to be available
00:07:35And not be in trouble
00:07:37I mean listen
00:07:39The bottom line is
00:07:41They won below 500
00:07:43Of their games
00:07:45Right?
00:07:47When he wasn't in the lineup
00:07:49They were 13 and 14
00:07:51With him 60% of their games they win
00:07:53It's not a mystery
00:07:55He unlocks so much on both ends
00:07:57As Steph Curry gets his second basket
00:07:59Number one
00:08:01611 assists
00:08:03For threes over the course of his career
00:08:05His feel and dribble handoffs
00:08:07His feel in their split actions
00:08:09This
00:08:11His ability as he gets backdoor defensively
00:08:13Think about this for Draymond Green last year
00:08:15This team started to play well
00:08:17When he returned from a second suspension
00:08:19He played 70% of his minutes
00:08:21At the five position
00:08:23A spot he doesn't want to play
00:08:25But which helped unlock the Jonathan Kuminga
00:08:27Andrew Wiggins
00:08:29Lineup
00:08:31Which was required
00:08:33And that's when the team found its footing
00:08:35Draymond is key on both ends
00:08:37To the success of this team
00:08:39Take a look at the upcoming national TV schedule
00:08:41NBA TV tomorrow night
00:08:43The Lakers are in Milwaukee
00:08:45ESPN tomorrow night
00:08:47WNBA Finals Game 1
00:08:49Minnesota at the Liberty
00:08:51New York lost in the finals a year ago
00:08:53ABC Sunday's Game 2
00:08:55For more go to nba.com or visit the NBA app
00:08:57Two best teams in the WNBA
00:08:59Square off
00:09:01Nafisa Collier is averaging 27 points
00:09:03In the playoffs
00:09:05She is absolutely killing people
00:09:07As is Stewie so I can't wait to watch
00:09:09Collier MVP runner up
00:09:11Kuros at eight points early on
00:09:13The floater no good from Green
00:09:15And here comes Savonis with another rebound
00:09:17And push
00:09:19Murray spot on three
00:09:21Neither team
00:09:23With a three until Steph Curry
00:09:25Hit one after the commercial
00:09:27But that's it otherwise it's been all in the paint
00:09:29For both teams here
00:09:31Almost six minutes of action
00:09:33Well look at the lineup Steve Kuros
00:09:35Playing now he wants to be a high volume
00:09:37Three point shooter so
00:09:39Kuros Looney in comes your other center
00:09:41Who started their first preseason game
00:09:43Trace Jackson Davis
00:09:45With that player on the floor
00:09:47Draymond Green and Jonathan Kaminga
00:09:49Your range shooting
00:09:51Is not spacing the floor
00:09:53So to speak right
00:09:55There's not a ton of shooting with that lineup
00:09:57And obviously that's a big area where they missed
00:09:59Klay Thompson
00:10:01In general Steve Kuros told us it was just weird
00:10:03Being a training camp this past week
00:10:05You're talking about 13 straight years
00:10:07Three championships together
00:10:09Steph Curry drills his second three
00:10:11There's your answer
00:10:15He can make enough on his own
00:10:17Some nights
00:10:19Last year
00:10:21At age 35
00:10:23He made 357 threes
00:10:25The 8th time he's led the NBA
00:10:27In made threes
00:10:29Just simple action here
00:10:31You've got to find the most dangerous shooter on the floor
00:10:33Keon Ellis
00:10:35And that is why Steph is wide open
00:10:39You think about how he's taken care of his body
00:10:41Over the years
00:10:43I don't think anybody would have thought early on his career
00:10:45He'd be able to play this number of games
00:10:47Go to the Olympics
00:10:49Come back and then be an all NBA type player again
00:10:51Which many assume he will be
00:10:53Without the work that he put into the off season
00:10:57What he does requires
00:10:59Not only physical stamina
00:11:01But mental stamina
00:11:03His commitment to conditioning and movement
00:11:05That's required to be Steph Curry
00:11:07Is truly something remarkable
00:11:09Green got bumped underneath by Malik Monk
00:11:11Who was runner up for the 6th man of the year
00:11:13Last year
00:11:15Key player for the Kings
00:11:17In their 46th win season
00:11:19First team foul on Sacramento
00:11:25We will not see Jordan McLaughlin tonight
00:11:27Or Trey Lyles
00:11:29There are two players
00:11:31On the right part of the Sacramento bench
00:11:35Curry has it knocked away by Monk
00:11:37Shot clock at 7
00:11:39Good job by Keegan Murray
00:11:41Defensively
00:11:43A year ago Mike challenged Keegan Murray
00:11:45Who had a great shooting rookie season
00:11:47To guard the opponents best player every night
00:11:49You better be able to lock and trail
00:11:51And navigate screens
00:11:53And then recover on the catch
00:11:55Be able to slide and get into position
00:11:57That is nicely done
00:11:59Kamiga
00:12:01Looked like he got fouled
00:12:03No call
00:12:05And here comes Sacramento
00:12:07Monk got caught in the air
00:12:09Leaves it for Sabonis
00:12:11On the attack and kick
00:12:15Curry defending Sabonis
00:12:17Now on the switch
00:12:19Green comes over to help
00:12:21And Sabonis slams it
00:12:23Sabonis is very willing to mix it up physically
00:12:26And Draymond Green
00:12:28Letting the official
00:12:30Moosa Dagger know what
00:12:32Sabonis was doing already
00:12:34An emphatic increase in game number 2
00:12:36A signal by Draymond Green
00:12:38To an official
00:12:40And maybe it helped him there
00:12:41He got the call, got fouled
00:12:42And he'll go to the line and try to complete the 3 point play
00:12:44And he's still talking to Moosa
00:12:49That was on Mason Jones
00:12:51And checking into the game now
00:12:53For Golden State
00:12:55Two key guys that the Warriors picked up in the offseason
00:12:57As you look at the basket by Draymond
00:12:59So they add Buddy Heald
00:13:01Who by the way is the only player
00:13:03To have more 3's the last 5 years
00:13:05Than Steph Curry
00:13:07Heald played in 84 games last year
00:13:09And Anthony Melton on the roster now too
00:13:11First of all let's go back to your first point
00:13:13Because if that's a trivia question
00:13:15How many people in America
00:13:17Think that he has more 3's the last 5 years
00:13:19Than Steph Curry
00:13:22Heald spent some time here
00:13:24In Sacramento
00:13:26They hope he can fill some of that void
00:13:28And George talked about that a little bit in the open
00:13:30For Clay Thompson now in Dallas
00:13:32Having another shooter on the floor
00:13:34Nice pass by Sabonis, good defense though
00:13:36And an empty possession as McDaniels couldn't score
00:13:42As Jalen McDaniels traded in the offseason
00:13:44By Toronto
00:13:46To Sacramento
00:13:48Nice pass by Melton
00:13:50And it's tied on the Kings
00:13:581,322 minutes
00:14:00A lot more than Steph Curry too
00:14:02The last 5 years
00:14:04On top of that anyone who's ever coached him
00:14:06Talks about the energy
00:14:08That Buddy Heald comes into every building with
00:14:10There's just a joy and a love
00:14:12For the game
00:14:14That island ethos
00:14:16That he comes with
00:14:20He will chase the basketball
00:14:22He is relentless in his movements
00:14:24Similar to Steph Curry
00:14:26So you're right, they will look to him to make
00:14:28Up some of those 3's
00:14:30And I think his minutes will be dictated very much the way
00:14:32It was in Philadelphia
00:14:34Is he making shots tonight or is he not?
00:14:36They add Melton
00:14:38And Kyle Anderson
00:14:40Golden State should be a better defensive team
00:14:42That is certainly the goal for the Warriors
00:14:44This year
00:14:46Murray underneath to the corner
00:14:48Can't hit the 3, Sacramento 0 for 5
00:14:50From out there
00:14:52Melton
00:14:54Too strong in the pull up triple
00:14:56Trying to keep it in play
00:14:58By batting it, but it goes out of bounds
00:15:00I agree on the defensive point
00:15:02And this young man right now picking up
00:15:04Malik Monk full court or thinking about it
00:15:06Melton, he's one reason, Kyle Anderson
00:15:08Is another reason their defense
00:15:10Will elevate
00:15:12Anderson really smart
00:15:14Plays the point guard and offense sometimes
00:15:18Played in a lot of playoff games
00:15:20The last few years with Minnesota
00:15:22Last year on their run for the conference finals
00:15:24Melton fouls McDaniels
00:15:26Underneath
00:15:28And that will put McDaniels at the strike
00:15:32But I've got to be honest with you Dave
00:15:34I don't know what the ceiling is for Golden State
00:15:36I really don't
00:15:38And the reason I say that is
00:15:40And you heard part of this discussion back in the studio
00:15:44What kind of year does Jonathan Kamink have?
00:15:48A year ago he had a breakthrough
00:15:50He averaged 10 points per game
00:15:52In the paint
00:15:54You get this guy the basketball
00:15:56In a downhill situation
00:15:58Very few individual players are going to be able
00:16:00To stop him
00:16:02The challenge this season is can he add range
00:16:04Shooting consistently
00:16:06Can he make smart decisions, handle the basketball well
00:16:08And can he make sure
00:16:10He limits those moments on the defensive end
00:16:12Where he can lose
00:16:14His concentration
00:16:16He can't have a missed box out
00:16:18He's got to be on point
00:16:20All night
00:16:22And so we'll talk about this on the other side
00:16:24I'm just not sure what this group is going to be yet
00:16:26So much is in flux
00:16:30I'll show you that Golden State
00:16:32And Sacramento with 46 wins
00:16:34The previous year would have finished fourth
00:16:36The West was as good as it had ever been a year ago
00:16:38And you're talking Doris before the break
00:16:40About the uncertainty and what the Warriors might look like
00:16:42And where they'll finish
00:16:44You could say that about a lot of teams
00:16:46In the West this year
00:16:48As opposed to last year
00:16:50Feels different, might be as good
00:16:52But with a lot of player movement
00:16:54There's some unknowns for sure
00:16:56And I think the thing is
00:16:58The wins total that you referenced
00:17:00So two years ago, 48 wins
00:17:02For the Sacramento Kings team
00:17:04They were on pace for 50 last year
00:17:06Until a couple of injuries
00:17:08Including the Kevin Herter who's not playing tonight
00:17:10As he rehabs his shoulder
00:17:12He's going to have a terrific year
00:17:14I'll be very surprised
00:17:16If this group isn't top 6
00:17:18I'm curious what Herter's timeline is
00:17:20Mr. Monk going to work right there
00:17:22Individually
00:17:24We know Oklahoma City
00:17:26Gained critical experience
00:17:28In the playoffs
00:17:30Added to an already dynamic
00:17:32Defensive team
00:17:34And those repetitions will help them
00:17:36So they're going to be outstanding
00:17:38I'm curious what
00:17:40The final standings look like
00:17:42In the West in terms of win total
00:17:44And what that means
00:17:46Anthony Melton from Dane
00:17:48Knocks down the 3
00:17:50Well you look at Denver losing
00:17:52Caldwell Pope, how does that impact
00:17:54The Nuggets, the trade of towns
00:17:56Bringing in Julius Randle
00:17:58How does that change things for Minnesota
00:18:00Fox can't answer from 3, Phoenix has a new coach
00:18:02And you look at teams
00:18:04Like Golden State without Clay Thompson
00:18:06To Rosen being added to Sacramento
00:18:08And then Memphis
00:18:10Which was at the bottom of the standings last year
00:18:12The assumption is with
00:18:14Ja Morant being available
00:18:16And healthy that the Grizzlies now
00:18:18Are going to take a jump
00:18:22Foul is on Keegan Murray
00:18:24Alex Len checks in
00:18:26For the Kings, let's bring in George
00:18:28Dave D.B. if you think about it
00:18:30The Warriors won 46 games
00:18:32Two seasons ago
00:18:34And that would have been
00:18:36The 4 seed
00:18:38Two seasons ago
00:18:40You had 10 teams above 500 as you mentioned Dave
00:18:42There's teams that were at the bottom
00:18:44As you see a 3 pointer there by Buddy Hill
00:18:46That will absolutely try to rise
00:18:48Closer to the top
00:18:50Should be a fascinating year as it always is
00:18:52Certainly in the West
00:18:56A lot of new faces in this conference
00:18:58And here's one of them
00:19:00DeMar DeRozan
00:19:02After spending the last three seasons with the Bulls
00:19:04There's Malik Monk
00:19:06Who can catch fire in a hurry
00:19:08I mean think about that
00:19:10Malik Monk is coming off the bench
00:19:12And he is dynamic
00:19:14As an offensive player
00:19:16And some of it too as we talk about
00:19:18New faces with Heald
00:19:20Another one scoring off the window
00:19:22Sometimes it's fit Malik Monk
00:19:24Things didn't seem to work out at previous stops
00:19:26He comes here and all of a sudden
00:19:28Has a career year
00:19:30Fox on the drive
00:19:32From Monk
00:19:34Got it blocked by Jackson Davis
00:19:36Out of bounds
00:19:38Well what you have in Malik Monk
00:19:40Is yet another dynamic ball handler
00:19:42Who can pull up off the bounce
00:19:44Can shoot it with great range
00:19:46Can be a finisher
00:19:48To close games
00:19:50Should DeMar or De'Aaron Fox get in foul trouble
00:19:52Down the stretch
00:19:54We have seen Monk take over an offense
00:19:56For a 3, 4, 5 minute stretch
00:19:58And carry the team
00:20:00Number 2 last year in bench scoring
00:20:02And bench assist
00:20:04Now in season number 8 out of Kentucky
00:20:08Shot clock at 3
00:20:10DeRozan on the back down
00:20:12Hoist it over
00:20:14And he has to take that
00:20:16Because he is under duress of the clock
00:20:18But folks just so you know
00:20:20That's what his shots look like
00:20:22He is one of the toughest shot makers in the game
00:20:24He is used to guys
00:20:26He has a chest in his face
00:20:28And his concentration just that good
00:20:30He is 4 of 4 in this game
00:20:3210 points here in the first quarter
00:20:34Anderson double pump underneath
00:20:36Nice hands
00:20:38As McDaniels gets the strip and steal
00:20:402 second difference in the game
00:20:42In shot clocks here at the end of the opening quarter
00:20:44Golden State on the strength
00:20:46Of 5 three-pointers
00:20:482 from Steph Curry
00:20:502 from Buddy Heal leading by 4
00:20:52Box with 5 to shoot
00:20:56Could have been an offensive foul call
00:20:583 seconds left
00:21:00Moody can't get it away in time
00:21:04And the first quarter comes to a close
00:21:08DeMar DeRozan is like a metronome
00:21:10Folks just wind him up and let him go
00:21:12Because he is as consistent an NBA player
00:21:14As you'll find
00:21:16Need a tough shot to be made
00:21:18DeMar DeRozan he's your man
00:21:20That is money
00:21:22Depot working tonight
00:21:30Welcome back to NBA Wednesday
00:21:32Presented by Popeyes we're here with Steve Kerr
00:21:34The head coach of the Warriors
00:21:36Looks like Steph has picked up right where he left off in Paris
00:21:38With you with a big first quarter
00:21:40What do you see from him in year 16
00:21:42That may be different about his approach
00:21:46Well he's always trying to get better
00:21:48He has a routine but he adds to his routine
00:21:50And he's constantly thinking about his body
00:21:52And his mind and he's the ultimate pro
00:21:54I mean he's just constantly preparing
00:21:56For what's next
00:21:58So it's a dream to coach a guy like that
00:22:00Who just sets a tone for everybody
00:22:02You've got a void at the two spot
00:22:04There are going to be a number of guys competing
00:22:06For that particular position
00:22:08How much do these preseason games matter
00:22:10In regards to who could play
00:22:12Well they matter but every practice matters
00:22:14We're really looking for combinations
00:22:16We know that Melton can play
00:22:18And Moody can play
00:22:20Podzemski all these guys
00:22:22They're all capable of
00:22:24You know filling in that role
00:22:26That Klay's absence leaves
00:22:28But it's more about the five man units
00:22:30And that's what we're looking at
00:22:32Steve thank you good luck
00:22:34Guys back to you
00:22:36Meanwhile take a picture on the other end
00:22:38Steph with a preseason
00:22:40Three point attempt that hit the side of the back
00:22:42I don't know if you've seen that regular season very often
00:22:44But Curt told us before the game
00:22:46There's 12 or 13 guys
00:22:48On this roster
00:22:50That deserve time
00:22:52So I've got to figure out because 12 or 13 guys
00:22:54Can't play how to manage that over the course of the year
00:22:56Right
00:22:58And listen they've also talked about
00:23:00Changing their offense
00:23:02This has been a great read and react
00:23:04Draymond in the middle of the floor
00:23:06Reading those split actions
00:23:08Steph with the relentless movement
00:23:10They want to go to a little bit more structure
00:23:12They'd like to shoot 53's
00:23:14Last year they averaged 48
00:23:16They believe Andrew Wiggins is going to have a tremendous year
00:23:18Offensively they'll lean in
00:23:20Again Kamingai touched on this already
00:23:22How consistently does he knock down
00:23:24That three point shot
00:23:26He looks confident and comfortable tonight
00:23:28On the two catches he's made from three
00:23:30He is shot ready
00:23:32Shot 32% from three last year
00:23:34As DeRozan scores again
00:23:36His first game as a king
00:23:38And he's 5 of 5 from the floor
00:23:42Where they're getting downhill
00:23:44And they're touching the paint
00:23:46Rattles it home from deep
00:23:48Another 3 to 7 already for Golden State
00:23:50Multiple guys trying to get downhill
00:23:52And get off the dribble
00:23:54Fox tries to go again there
00:23:56Here's DeRozan
00:23:58Hits again that's a 3
00:24:00For DeMar DeRozan
00:24:02Only a 33% shooter
00:24:04Last season
00:24:06He hasn't missed a shot yet tonight
00:24:086 of 6
00:24:10Foul on the floor
00:24:12As Draymond Green hit the deck
00:24:14DeRozan's got 15 points
00:24:16In 9 minutes
00:24:18He's not a heavy volume
00:24:20Three point shooter which is why I think
00:24:22You're hearing Mike talk about
00:24:24Sabonis taking more shots
00:24:26Spacing will be a thought process for both
00:24:28Of these groups
00:24:30But DeMar he's capable from there
00:24:32He's so consistent
00:24:34Getting to his spots
00:24:36It's like a well worn tire track
00:24:38And he's also consistent
00:24:40As a person
00:24:42You pretty much get the same guy each practice
00:24:44And that's going to do wonders for a team
00:24:46That does not have a lot of post season
00:24:48Success
00:24:50Here's Curry letting it fly
00:24:52And hitting a 3
00:24:54That's the third triple and Curry's got 11 points
00:24:56Here in the first half
00:24:58Yet another connection between the two of them
00:25:00Draymond Green and Stephen Curry
00:25:02Mark
00:25:04Fouled by
00:25:06Kuminga who got underneath him
00:25:10Three fouls on Kuminga
00:25:12Touched on Draymond
00:25:14Understanding
00:25:16Where his teammate is at all times
00:25:18On the floor. Pass wasn't necessarily perfect
00:25:20Defender almost gets a piece
00:25:22Great concentration from
00:25:24Steph keeping his shoulders square
00:25:32We were talking about some of the changes
00:25:34And we talked throughout here about the
00:25:36Player changes. There's also some staff changes
00:25:38For Golden State
00:25:40With on the right Terry Stotts
00:25:42Former Portland Trailblazers head coach
00:25:44And Jerry Stackhouse obviously a long time
00:25:46NBA player and most recently
00:25:48Head coach at Vanderbilt
00:25:50Now on Steve Kerr's staff
00:25:52Love both additions
00:25:54Jerry Stackhouse
00:25:56Probably the least far removed
00:25:58From his playing days obviously
00:26:00Terry Stotts
00:26:02So much success coaching Damian Lillard
00:26:04And CJ McCollum and his teams
00:26:06In Portland
00:26:08Kenny Atkinson
00:26:10Was on the staff
00:26:12Now the head coach in Cleveland
00:26:18So Malik Monk off the bench
00:26:20With 11 points
00:26:22Average 15 per game
00:26:24As a reserve a year ago
00:26:26Played in 72 games and
00:26:28Did not start a single game
00:26:30Curry gets a good look
00:26:32And off the side of the rim
00:26:34Excellent hustle
00:26:36Kaminga keeping it alive and then Len
00:26:38With the steal
00:26:40Monk with the save
00:26:42Bodies are hitting the deck
00:26:44Guys are going for saves here
00:26:46In a preseason game
00:26:50Obviously the coaches
00:26:52Will love to see that
00:26:54Depending on who it is
00:26:56I don't know if they want Steph or Draymond
00:26:58Going diving into the first row
00:27:00In a preseason game
00:27:02But for the young guys they'll take it
00:27:06They've tied at 40
00:27:08Curry off the ball
00:27:10With Pachemsky running point
00:27:12On his possession
00:27:14And Pachemsky from deep
00:27:16That's 9-3's for Golden State
00:27:18So on the prior possession Draymond
00:27:20Sets a screen, gets a shot for Steph
00:27:22Which he misses
00:27:24The screen assists that Draymond gets you
00:27:26Those matter. This is what we're talking about
00:27:28When we say this guy is the hub
00:27:30Pachemsky hit the deck
00:27:32In a hard lane screen
00:27:34Monk was wide open and knocked it down
00:27:40Pachemsky third among rookies
00:27:42In three point shooting last year
00:27:44Draymond Green who had a career best
00:27:4640% three point percentage last year
00:27:48Hits his second
00:27:50They've made ten threes in the last ten minutes
00:27:54And Sacramento two on one
00:27:56Kaminga gives it up
00:27:58And Mason with the foul
00:28:00Boy they're playing with great pace
00:28:02And I don't just mean that in the half court
00:28:04Pachemsky took a shot
00:28:06And I think he may be heading back
00:28:08Toward the locker room
00:28:10Yeah Pachemsky going
00:28:12Over to the bench and then
00:28:14Immediately
00:28:16As he was doubled over
00:28:18Stood up and walked
00:28:20Towards the locker room
00:28:24And
00:28:26Gary Payton
00:28:28Gets the first free throw
00:28:30Another important player for the
00:28:32Warriors in their rotation
00:28:34Missed about half the games last year
00:28:36Due to injuries. Take a look here
00:28:38He runs into Alex Lennon
00:28:40This is important because
00:28:42The other day at practice
00:28:44He
00:28:46Had some contact and
00:28:48I can't remember if it was left or right shoulder
00:28:50But he was
00:28:52One to two at practice so that's something to keep
00:28:54An eye on
00:28:56And we'll get you an update when we have it
00:29:00Three pointer
00:29:02Good from Jones, his first points
00:29:06Mason Jones off the bench getting some
00:29:08Minutes here
00:29:10Along with Isaac Jones who the
00:29:12Coachee staff really wants to see
00:29:14A beautiful catch and finish by Curry
00:29:16And there's still that great chemistry
00:29:18With Draymond
00:29:20And Steph even with Clay Thompson gone
00:29:22Just an innate understanding of one another's
00:29:24Games, the reads they make and if you don't
00:29:26Stay attached to Steph Biley
00:29:28Coming out of that corner he is going to score
00:29:30Thirteen points on
00:29:32Seven shots for Curry here in the first half
00:29:34Jones banks and a three
00:29:38He doesn't react
00:29:40You gotta call the bank Mr. Jones
00:29:46Now working hard
00:29:48On the other end trying to fight through the screen
00:29:50Fouls Curry
00:29:54I'm going to say it was on the floor
00:29:56That's why Steph is incredulous
00:29:58With J.T. Orr right now
00:30:06I thought it was continuation
00:30:08I thought so too
00:30:10That's why Steve is saying he shot the ball
00:30:18The current
00:30:20Mid-season form when one official
00:30:22Won't listen, work the other
00:30:24But
00:30:26Traymatics didn't want to hear it either
00:30:32Here comes
00:30:34Savonis leaving it for Jones
00:30:36Isaac Jones way off
00:30:38Got a high ceiling
00:30:40Relatively new to basketball
00:30:42Has only been playing for a handful of years
00:30:44Played just two years of major college basketball
00:30:46Major college basketball
00:30:48The last one at Washington State
00:30:50Another three, Kaminga
00:30:52That's eleven for Golden State
00:30:54Kaminga's second
00:30:56They're just playing at a pace
00:30:58The ball is moving, it's crisp
00:31:00The screens are
00:31:02Having an impact
00:31:06Isaac Jones drives underneath
00:31:08Savonis couldn't finish
00:31:10Bodies hit the floor
00:31:12And Kaminga
00:31:14A little slow to get off
00:31:16Kojemski's already gone to the locker room
00:31:18But Kaminga looks to be okay
00:31:20Back in a moment
00:31:26Followed by Denver and Phoenix
00:31:28And boy did the first one get a little bit more interesting
00:31:30Just a couple weeks ago
00:31:32Can you have a payback game in preseason
00:31:34Carl Anthony Towns traded
00:31:36For Julius Randle
00:31:38Along with Dante DiVincenzo
00:31:40The Hornets also involved in the trade
00:31:42What does the acquisition of Cat
00:31:44Do for the Knicks?
00:31:46He's an immediate solution to the
00:31:48Mitchell-Robinson problem
00:31:50Mitchell-Robinson still recovering
00:31:52From the ankle surgery
00:31:54The timeline is
00:31:56What are they saying? Loosely December
00:31:58But more likely January
00:32:00I think Carl Anthony Towns elevates
00:32:02Any offense he plays in
00:32:04He calls himself the greatest shooting big man in history
00:32:08Positionally it's a great fit
00:32:10That was my question
00:32:12This was a long rumored
00:32:14Potential move
00:32:16For the New York Knicks
00:32:18Leon Rose obviously was his agent
00:32:20When he first came into the league
00:32:24I think he's got great leadership
00:32:26Around him
00:32:28The one piece I hated to see the Knicks lose
00:32:30Was Dante DiVincenzo
00:32:32Think about the way Dante played
00:32:34All season
00:32:36He was thrilled
00:32:38Great shot maker
00:32:40Toughness
00:32:42But I am so
00:32:44Fascinated by Carl Anthony Towns
00:32:46When Mitchell-Robinson comes back
00:32:48How much does that duo play together?
00:32:50We obviously saw him adapt his game
00:32:52To Rudy Gobert
00:32:54He'll have a healthy Ananobi
00:32:56And Mikel Bridgers
00:32:58One of the more underrated acquisitions
00:33:00By any team in the offseason
00:33:02Given what he is on the defensive end
00:33:04And what we've seen from him at times
00:33:06Before
00:33:08The Knicks made
00:33:10This change
00:33:12I thought if they had stayed healthy a year ago
00:33:14They were positioned to challenge
00:33:16The Boston Celtics
00:33:18Toughness, leadership
00:33:20Talent
00:33:22It'll just look different now
00:33:24But I still think they're well positioned
00:33:26Rambo got hurt in January
00:33:28And we didn't see him again
00:33:30Savonis takes it to the rim
00:33:32And flushes it
00:33:34Year 9 for Savonis
00:33:36Third full season
00:33:38With Sacramento
00:33:40As Milton hits a 3
00:33:42They're 12-19 from 3
00:33:44I think that's Draymond Green's
00:33:46Fifth assist here in the first half
00:33:50Jones can't answer
00:33:52That was halfway down and out
00:33:54These should be two fun offensive teams to watch
00:33:56And this lineup right now
00:33:58You've got Draymond Green at the 5
00:34:00Foul called here
00:34:02On the Warriors
00:34:04It's going to be on Kyle Anderson
00:34:06Off the ball
00:34:14All right, let's get the latest on
00:34:16Brandon Podjemski from George
00:34:18Dave DB, Brandon Podjemski
00:34:20Took a big hit earlier in the game
00:34:22On a screen
00:34:24He went back to the locker room
00:34:26He's good to go though, they checked him out
00:34:28All right, thanks for the update, great news
00:34:30And you pointed it out to us on that screen
00:34:32And also the contact in practice this week
00:34:34So that shoulder already a little ginger
00:34:38Murray with the basket
00:34:40Sacramento back within 2
00:34:42Curry, over Savonis
00:34:44Rainbow 3 wouldn't go
00:34:48That almost looked like the one over Wembenyama
00:34:50In the Olympics, that was like 10 feet
00:34:52Over his up-stretched arm
00:34:54Can I make a confession
00:34:56As brilliant as he was
00:34:58In both the Olympics semi-final
00:35:00And final
00:35:02I mean, things were tenuous and stressful
00:35:04For a fan at home on both nights
00:35:06And there were times where
00:35:08Steph was turning it over in the final
00:35:10And there might have been
00:35:12Profanity in my home
00:35:14And then he starts hitting those threes
00:35:16And I just said, sit down, it's Steph Curry
00:35:18And Kerr was like, telling us
00:35:20Pre-game, that Eric Spolster
00:35:22And Ty Lauer, looking at him like
00:35:24Hey, and he goes, welcome to the
00:35:26Steph Curry experience
00:35:32Dave and Murray with the basket
00:35:36Most of the time the experience is
00:35:38Maddening for the opponent
00:35:40Yes
00:35:46Draymond Green, short
00:35:48Kept alive though by Melton
00:35:50And Fox
00:35:52That was right in the grill of Curry
00:35:54Who dribbled it off his foot and turned it over
00:35:58The profanity of course
00:36:00Was not coming from you, it must have been the kids
00:36:06There was a point at which he turned it over, Steph
00:36:08And he's running back down and he's like
00:36:10Don't worry about me
00:36:12And he was saying it in the direction of Draymond Green
00:36:14Who was there to watch the final
00:36:16I don't think Draymond was worried about him
00:36:18No, I think he had seen enough
00:36:22With a good look
00:36:24Can't bury that one, rebound Sabonis
00:36:26Who has 7 boards in 13 minutes
00:36:30Draymond's got 5 assists, he could easily
00:36:32Have 8 or 9
00:36:34Anderson, good defense that time on the cutting
00:36:36Key on Ellis
00:36:42Murray trying to shake
00:36:44And he can't
00:36:46Fans love it
00:36:48So does the coaching staff, look at the bench
00:36:50For Sacramento
00:36:56And it won't fall
00:36:58Good pass though by Curry to the corner
00:37:00Come on folks, that's not easy for Keegan Murray
00:37:02Defensively
00:37:04Did an excellent job
00:37:06Now Fox drives, foul, count it
00:37:08The harm by Steph
00:37:10And an and one for De'Aaron Fox
00:37:12De'Aaron Fox
00:37:203.27 to go in the first half
00:37:22Sacramento up 2
00:37:24With De'Aaron Fox
00:37:26Now at 8 points after that last and one
00:37:28I've talked a little bit about this team
00:37:30Wanting to get downhill, little up fake
00:37:32Change of pace, Eurostep
00:37:3420 points and a paint for them

00:41:00Here's Heald
00:41:02another one, hits again
00:41:04Buddy Heald
00:41:066 of 6, 4 of 4 from 3
00:41:08There are two players in this game, 6 of 6
00:41:10DeRozan on one side, Heald on the other
00:41:14They're 15 of 27
00:41:16from 3
00:41:18Steve might be over there saying
00:41:20you guys might want to save some of this for a couple weeks
00:41:22from now
00:41:24Box in the lane, gets the floater to fall
00:41:26over Looney, tough shot
00:41:28How tough is that? They are touching the paint
00:41:30consistently
00:41:32It is a 24-10 advantage of the paint
00:41:34That is how the Kings are staying in this
00:41:388 second difference in the game
00:41:40in shot clocks, more of this please
00:41:42in the second half
00:41:44See who's on the floor then
00:41:46Melton throws it away
00:41:48Ellis with the steal, sees the clock
00:41:50takes it in and throws it down
00:41:54Dion Ellis gives them great energy
00:41:56as a starter
00:41:58coming off the bench
00:42:004 seconds left, in the half
00:42:02Moody
00:42:04and an empty possession, good defense by DeRozan
00:42:06and then Ellis to end the half
00:42:0868-66
00:42:10Sacramento
00:42:14Stephan Curry with 13 points
00:42:16Malik Monk, 13 off the bench
00:42:1815 points
00:42:20for DeMar DeRozan
00:42:22and his Sacramento
00:42:24King debut
00:42:26Stay tuned for the halftime report
00:42:28We'll join Malika Andrews, Bob Myers, Kendrick Perkins
00:42:30Brian Windhorst after these messages
00:42:3659% shooting for the Kings
00:42:3855% for the Warriors
00:42:40Dave Pasch, Doris Burke, George Sodano
00:42:42The Warriors regular season record
00:42:44for threes and a half is 17
00:42:46all those years with Clay Thompson
00:42:4815 in the first half of this game
00:42:50and Steph Curry in mid-year form
00:42:52with three threes
00:42:54Two guys, both in their 16th year
00:42:56we know who they are and how they do it
00:42:58and it was on display in that
00:43:00first half. Steph came out
00:43:02I feel like he hit his first 4 or 5
00:43:04shots, he ends up 5 for 8
00:43:06of course, so dangerous from
00:43:083, the connection, you come off his body
00:43:10in the corner, he backdoors you
00:43:12and Draymond always on time and on target
00:43:14and DeMar DeRozan
00:43:16welcome to the dribble handoff offense
00:43:18you know how to run it
00:43:20and then this nice feed from Alex Linn
00:43:22on the little curl cut to the rim
00:43:24beautifully done
00:43:26Debut for DeRozan
00:43:28as a King, coming over in the
00:43:30offseason from the Chicago
00:43:32Bulls, Golden State
00:43:34life without Clay Thompson
00:43:36the opening chapter
00:43:38they did play a preseason game the other night
00:43:40beat the Clippers on a last second shot
00:43:42by Lindy Waters, we will not see
00:43:44much of the starters
00:43:46for either team if
00:43:48any minutes in the second half
00:43:50although Brandon Pajemski, good sign, he is
00:43:52out there and you'd have
00:43:54to think after he left the
00:43:56game for a little bit due to a shoulder
00:43:58issue, that if there was any question
00:44:00whether he wasn't
00:44:02100%, he would not be out there just
00:44:04No question about it, and he's
00:44:06that's one tough cookie who loves
00:44:08to compete, loves to play
00:44:10Coming to starting the second
00:44:12half as well, Trace Jackson Davis
00:44:16also out there, nice finish
00:44:18by Jalen McDaniels
00:44:20on his fourth team, Raptors
00:44:22Sixers spent four years with Charlotte
00:44:24to open his career
00:44:26Well, we know his brother
00:44:28Jayden and what a big role he plays on
00:44:30the defensive end of the floor
00:44:32for Minnesota
00:44:36Here's Pajemski in the
00:44:38paint, and his pass knocked
00:44:40away, gonna stay with
00:44:42the Warriors, 3.4 to shoot
00:44:44Regular season starts
00:44:46two weeks from tonight for Golden State
00:44:48at Portland
00:44:50Their home opener is against the
00:44:52Clippers on October 27th, their first
00:44:54game against their former teammate
00:44:56Clay Thompson will be
00:44:58November 12th, they'll also play the
00:45:00Mavericks in San Francisco
00:45:02in late February on ABC
00:45:04Sacramento opens
00:45:06the regular season two weeks from tomorrow
00:45:08at home here against Minnesota
00:45:10but five of their first seven games
00:45:12are on the road
00:45:14Do they go Minnesota and then to the Lakers?
00:45:16They have a tough
00:45:18couple of first games
00:45:20I feel like
00:45:22They had a time back on
00:45:24so 3.4 healed underneath
00:45:26Jackson Davis had it stripped
00:45:28by Isaac Jones and a 24
00:45:30second violation
00:45:32So that game
00:45:40against the Lakers is on a Saturday
00:45:42two days after the home opener against
00:45:44Minnesota, then they come back to play Portland
00:45:46and then head on the road for
00:45:48they have to go to Toronto,
00:45:50Atlanta, and Miami in the first
00:45:52ten days of the season, not that
00:45:54Toronto's expected to be a great
00:45:56team, but always having to make that trip early in the
00:45:58year can be a challenge
00:46:02McDaniels, no, but the tip in
00:46:04by Jones
00:46:08Colby Jones, second
00:46:10year out of Xavier
00:46:16But he healed
00:46:18fit right in with the Warriors
00:46:20offensive style in the first half, hits another
00:46:22three, five for five from behind the
00:46:24arc. He does a very
00:46:26good job of getting to open space
00:46:32And
00:46:34obviously the expectations are going to be
00:46:36high for him trying to
00:46:38along with other players, fill the
00:46:40void of Klay Thompson, but
00:46:42he didn't have to be the guy that he
00:46:44was here early in his career with Sacramento
00:46:46when he was one of the first options
00:46:48Agreed, and I
00:46:50think Kyle Anderson
00:46:52in terms of lineup versatility
00:46:54is going to be an enormous
00:46:56addition for this team
00:46:58If you play
00:47:00small with Draymond
00:47:02at the five and Kyle at the
00:47:04four, you have
00:47:06two guys, I know they're not great distance
00:47:08shooters, but both with incredible
00:47:10feel
00:47:14A lot of lineups with high basketball IQ
00:47:16Yes, for the Warriors
00:47:20Off target was Jones
00:47:22with a shot, and here comes Pudzemski
00:47:24Pudzemski
00:47:28Nice pass by Pudzemski
00:47:30and the corner three goes for Moody
00:47:32What does that guy's rotation
00:47:34minutes look like? You know, Steve Kerr
00:47:36telling us, Moody has had a great camp
00:47:38and he's had moments where he's been
00:47:40productive in big situations
00:47:42and get cracking that rotation
00:47:44attempt is going to be hard for him
00:47:46Started nine games last year
00:47:48played 66, will he be able
00:47:50to play that number of games
00:47:52this year? A turnover
00:47:54Well, everyone's all in for the season to begin
00:47:56It all starts with Kia NBA tip-off
00:47:58Watch beginning Tuesday, October 22nd
00:48:00on ESPN, TNT
00:48:02and NBA TV
00:48:04On that Tuesday, the Celtics
00:48:06will unveil
00:48:08another championship banner
00:48:10at the Garden in Boston
00:48:12After a remarkable run
00:48:14a year ago
00:48:16beating the Mavericks in the NBA finals
00:48:18Pudzemski
00:48:20And the overwhelming favorite
00:48:22according to the NBA GM survey
00:48:24just came out the other day
00:48:26to repeat in
00:48:282025
00:48:30Pudzemski got Glenn off his feet
00:48:32fires to Kaminga
00:48:34and Kaminga on target tonight
00:48:36three of five from deep
00:48:38And hasn't hesitated at all, Dave
00:48:42A good sign for Golden State
00:48:44if that range continues
00:48:48to extend
00:48:50Jones hits
00:48:52the floor after hanging in the air
00:48:54and getting fouled
00:48:58Mason Jones in his fifth
00:49:00NBA season out of Arkansas
00:49:02But watch Pudzemski, he's just so
00:49:04crafty, multiple
00:49:06fakes
00:49:08out to the open shooter
00:49:10He is so
00:49:12patient, makes the right reads
00:49:14in the right position
00:49:16Through the most charges in the NBA
00:49:18just absolutely
00:49:20from the opening
00:49:22moment of camp a season ago
00:49:24said, I'm going to play
00:49:26I'm going to find a way into the rotation
00:49:28you can play them with Steph Curry
00:49:30without Steph Curry
00:49:34Excellent rebounder
00:49:36in college and also in the NBA
00:49:38averaged six boards per game as a rookie last year
00:49:40loose ball foul underneath
00:49:42on Golden State
00:49:47First up here
00:49:49is Trace Jackson Davis
00:49:51A side out of bounds here
00:49:53for Sacramento
00:50:06And a turnover
00:50:08transition opportunity
00:50:10Moody gets it back from Pudzemski
00:50:12and puts it home
00:50:14Again
00:50:16the quick decisions
00:50:18Golden State talks about .5
00:50:20make a .5 second decision
00:50:22That's Pudzemski
00:50:26There's Isaac Jones
00:50:28Really curious
00:50:30to see how Isaac Jones handles
00:50:32minutes here in the preseason
00:50:34undrafted this year, 24 year old rookie
00:50:36out of Washington State
00:50:38What a journey
00:50:40for that young man
00:50:423 for Kaminga
00:50:44He's 4 for 6 from out there
00:50:48There's a great article this week by the way
00:50:50by Mark Spears
00:50:52talking about the passing
00:50:54of Dikembe Mutombo and how that
00:50:56impacted
00:50:58Jonathan Kaminga both from
00:51:00Congo and
00:51:02obviously
00:51:04Mutombo having an impact on
00:51:06the entire world with his humanitarian
00:51:08efforts before he succumbed to brain cancer
00:51:10at age 58, but Kaminga
00:51:12especially looked up to
00:51:14Dikembe for what he meant
00:51:16to his country as a player
00:51:18but also his work in the community
00:51:20Another 3 for the Warriors, that by Moody
00:51:22and a foul on McDaniel
00:51:24so a 4 point chance here
00:51:32Pudzemski running pick and roll
00:51:34He's stringing it out
00:51:36seeing if he can deliver to the big
00:51:38He gets it to the corner
00:51:40Again, decision making with the ball in his hand
00:51:42We've seen it multiple times
00:51:4423's
00:51:46for Colton State here
00:51:48at Sacramento
00:51:56Warriors leading by 6 here in the third quarter
00:51:58We are with
00:52:00the man that runs the show here
00:52:02for the Sacramento Kings,
00:52:04Monty McNair. Monty, first of all, I've got to ask you
00:52:06about the incredible start for
00:52:08DeMar DeRozan, but what he
00:52:10does particularly for your roster
00:52:12moving forward?
00:52:14Obviously great to see him go 6 for 6 here
00:52:16Hope he does that every night
00:52:18Obviously the scoring is going to be a big part of what DeMar does
00:52:20but what he's done with his game on the floor
00:52:22adding the passing
00:52:24rebounding, the strength that he's added
00:52:26He can guard multiple positions, but really
00:52:28the leadership
00:52:30He's entering his 16th season and that's going to be huge
00:52:32for our young team. Keegan Murray
00:52:34obviously now heading into his third season
00:52:36We saw him earlier do a great job
00:52:38defending Steph Curry
00:52:40He's taken that part of the game
00:52:42on this particular offseason
00:52:44What is the ceiling for him
00:52:46moving forward here?
00:52:48We don't put a ceiling on him. I think his first year he really came in
00:52:50found a role on a good team
00:52:52hit a lot of 3's, broke the rookie record
00:52:54then year 2 he really became
00:52:56one of our perimeter stoppers and this year he's already
00:52:58talked about adding some strength
00:53:00He's going to have to guard more positions this year
00:53:02with some bigger guys and then offensively
00:53:04continue to do what he did in college
00:53:06where he was one of the best scorers in the nation
00:53:08DeMontis a bonus, there's been talk about
00:53:10him shooting more 3's, that obviously creates
00:53:12a lot more space and not that your guys need a ton
00:53:14of it with Fox and DeMar DeRozan
00:53:16etc.
00:53:18How many do you think he should shoot?
00:53:20What would be a good number for him?
00:53:22I think Mike and him have talked about 3-4 a game
00:53:24especially with
00:53:26him being so perimeter based
00:53:28with his passing, his skill
00:53:30If he can just step out and hit a couple
00:53:32that's going to cause so many more problems for the defense
00:53:34create openings for the rest of our guys
00:53:36and he's shown he can do it
00:53:38so it's just extrapolating that to a few more
00:53:40per game and we'll see what he does for our offense
00:53:42And lastly, Keyon Ellis who's done a great
00:53:44job for you guys defensively, we saw him
00:53:46some last season as well
00:53:48DeMar DeRozan, high praise, said he reminded
00:53:50him of Alex Caruso who was one of his teammates
00:53:52in Chicago. What do you make of
00:53:54Keyon Ellis' role on this team?
00:53:56Keyon stepped up huge for us last year
00:53:58took some injuries down the stretch, started for us
00:54:00in the play-in tournament
00:54:02but he's such a two-way guy
00:54:04obviously the defense stands out, he's got incredible
00:54:06hands, you know, just
00:54:08wreaks havoc, guards some of the
00:54:10best players but also off the ball
00:54:12can create a lot of steals, a lot of events
00:54:14and then offensively he's shooting over
00:54:1640% both in the G-League and then
00:54:18when he came up and played for us here
00:54:20down the stretch last year, he does great
00:54:22in practice so a two-way guy, we're going to need
00:54:24big minutes from him this year.
00:54:26Thanks for the time. Thank you. Dave, back to you.
00:54:28Alright George, I want to go back to what
00:54:30Monty said about DeMar DeRozan because you touched on
00:54:32it in the open doors about
00:54:34the belief that he
00:54:36has instilled in the other guys
00:54:38just his presence at practice
00:54:40and here we're seeing tonight
00:54:42in preseason as Len gets a tip-in.
00:54:44There's something so valuable about
00:54:46a veteran, their demeanor
00:54:48the ability to keep playing in tough
00:54:50circumstances. I mean
00:54:52DeMar in Chicago
00:54:54seven times within the last
00:54:5630 seconds of a game
00:54:58hit a go-ahead bucket.
00:55:00There's a confidence that comes with that.
00:55:02We're always in it with a guy like him.
00:55:04One thing that George did not
00:55:06touch on, a phenomenal job
00:55:08with Monty. One of the things Monty
00:55:10convinced Mike Brown that
00:55:12needed to happen with this group this year is
00:55:14Brandon Podjemski gets another
00:55:16three to fall. They're shooting
00:55:1858%. They've got 21
00:55:20threes. The corner crash
00:55:22is something you're going to
00:55:24see more from Sacramento. We know Mike
00:55:26Brown's always going to
00:55:28build his team or try to on the defensive
00:55:30end and out. But the
00:55:32corner crash is proven to be
00:55:34an effective tool in the NBA.
00:55:36You saw Boston do it en route
00:55:38to a championship.
00:55:40They've shot it so well tonight. They
00:55:42haven't had to do it. I happened
00:55:44to watch practice this morning. It was one of the first
00:55:46things Mike said. Remember
00:55:48our crashes. We want this to be
00:55:50a part of who we are this year.
00:55:52Wholesale
00:55:54substitutions meanwhile
00:55:56for both teams. A lot of young
00:55:58guys, undrafted players
00:56:00getting an opportunity to get some run here.
00:56:04Including Boogie Ellis.
00:56:06A rookie
00:56:08out of USC.
00:56:10Was a teammate of Bronny James.
00:56:12Obviously, Bronny's presence
00:56:14with the Lakers is a big story as he
00:56:16and LeBron have become the first
00:56:18in some combination in
00:56:20NBA history at some point this
00:56:22season.
00:56:24Bissier with the fall-away jumper.
00:56:28How do I go? You said 21
00:56:30threes. They have 10 twos.
00:56:32Almost three-quarters
00:56:34played. Ten two-point
00:56:36baskets. Only one this half.
00:56:38They have six threes here in the third and
00:56:40one two-point basket.
00:56:42There's Ellis with the floater.
00:56:44Can't hit it.
00:56:46Keeps it alive for Jones.
00:56:54Good ball movement and Jones three.
00:56:56Not there. Sacramento
00:56:58five for 19 from three-point
00:57:00range and then an errant pass down
00:57:02floor for Eterno.
00:57:04Take a look at our upcoming
00:57:06national TV schedule. Speaking
00:57:08of the Lakers, they're in Milwaukee tomorrow night
00:57:10at NBA TV. Don't ask LeBron what
00:57:12he thinks about that trip. No, he's not
00:57:14very happy.
00:57:16ESPN tomorrow, WNBA finals
00:57:18game one, Minnesota at the
00:57:20Liberty and then game two will be on
00:57:22ABC Sunday from Oregon to
00:57:24nba.com or visit the NBA app. But you know
00:57:26what? Our Bobby
00:57:28Marks, and I did not know
00:57:30this, but he right away
00:57:32made the point that those
00:57:34preseason games are handled in-house
00:57:36in your organization.
00:57:38They're set up very much the way the college
00:57:40scrimmage season would be set up.
00:57:42I think he'd rather go to Milwaukee now
00:57:44than in mid-January.
00:57:46Yeah.
00:57:48Rebounded by Gary Payton.
00:57:50Here's Melton who had a really good
00:57:52first half in his Warriors debut
00:57:54and he cans a three.
00:57:56And so Melton's got four triples,
00:57:5812 points.
00:58:00And the Warriors have
00:58:02now hit
00:58:0422 three-pointers.
00:58:06Kind of weird to look at the score
00:58:08and see it be a six-point difference
00:58:10when Golden State has
00:58:1251.
00:58:1451 more points
00:58:16on three-pointers.
00:58:18It's incredible.
00:58:20And look at the difference
00:58:22in experience
00:58:24amongst the players
00:58:26playing for the respective teams.
00:58:28Right? Gary Payton
00:58:30has been a part of
00:58:32the Warriors'
00:58:34has been a part of
00:58:36big-time
00:58:38rotations here in Golden State.
00:58:40Kavon Looney, starter on
00:58:42championship teams. Kyle Anderson.
00:58:44Multiple
00:58:46organizations in critical
00:58:48roles.
00:58:50Here in Sacramento
00:58:52you've got a different feel amongst
00:58:54the guys on the floor in their second half.
00:58:56Some guys
00:58:58just trying to earn roster spots.
00:59:00And some
00:59:02players that are not available
00:59:04that are, you would assume, going to be
00:59:06in the rotation with Jordan McLaughlin
00:59:08coming over from Minnesota.
00:59:10Trey Liles, who was on the roster
00:59:12last year. Devin Carter, who was
00:59:14a mid-first-round draft pick
00:59:16but he's not going to play for the first couple months
00:59:18after shoulder surgery.
00:59:20Shout-out Providence.
00:59:22And we've seen Jalen McDaniels
00:59:24tonight, Kevin Herter not playing
00:59:26tonight, but obviously either going to
00:59:28start or be one of the top bench players
00:59:30for Sacramento during the year.
00:59:32I wonder how long Herter is
00:59:34anticipated to miss.
00:59:36That's a young man
00:59:38who I think people identify as a shooter
00:59:40but he's far more than that. He can put it
00:59:42on the deck. He makes good reads
00:59:44as a passer.
00:59:46Obviously not as strong a defensive
00:59:48player as Keyon Ellis. Not a difference
00:59:50maker, but a smart team
00:59:52defender.
00:59:54Melton banks
00:59:56it in, and so that's the first
00:59:58point basket for Melton. He's got 14
01:00:00points. Steve Kerr absolutely
01:00:02loves D'Anthony Melton.
01:00:04He's a guy you can play
01:00:06at the lead guard, at the two-spot.
01:00:08He can make open shots off the
01:00:10catch. Another offensive
01:00:12foul. That's three in a row.
01:00:14Back to your point on Melton,
01:00:16it's interesting too, when he came
01:00:18out of USC, he made the league because of his
01:00:20defense, but he's become a reliable
01:00:22offensive player.
01:00:24There's a toughness to him.
01:00:26All year
01:00:28in Philadelphia, it was really about health
01:00:30because when he did play, he played
01:00:32well. He just couldn't get
01:00:34his back right.
01:00:36Lindy Waters
01:00:38hits the 23rd three-pointer
01:00:40for Golden State tonight.
01:00:46Bogey, Ellis answers with a
01:00:48three-ball.
01:00:50Ellis played
01:00:52at Memphis for two years and then
01:00:54at SC for three.
01:00:58Kyle Anderson answers.
01:01:00First points on Anderson's
01:01:02first shot attempt.
01:01:04Make it 24 threes
01:01:06for Golden State.
01:01:10It's a striking contrast
01:01:12in the delivery of Kyle Anderson's
01:01:14three versus how fast
01:01:16Steph Curry gets that. Or Clay.
01:01:18He's filling the role of
01:01:20Clay Thompson at times.
01:01:22The catch and shoot
01:01:24takes a little bit longer
01:01:26to leave Kyle's hands. We love him.
01:01:28He's really
01:01:30one of the great guys in the league, Kyle Anderson.
01:01:32No question.
01:01:34The slow-mo nickname
01:01:36is appropriate. And he embraces it.
01:01:38Twitter handle and everything
01:01:40as Melton hits again on the turn around.
01:01:44Final minute of the third. Golden State's
01:01:46got 100 points. 72 have
01:01:48come on three points. That is
01:01:50that.
01:01:54By Syracuse, Matt, being tested
01:01:56greatly tonight as Crawford hits
01:01:58the mid-range two.
01:02:00Steve did say we want to be a fast-paced,
01:02:02high-volume, three-point
01:02:04shooting team.
01:02:06And they're at 40
01:02:08attempts with a full 12 minutes to play.
01:02:10And taking 22
01:02:12shots from inside the yard. That's it.
01:02:14Haven't been many
01:02:16offensive rebound chances because the ball
01:02:18is going in for three. 60%
01:02:20three-point shooting. Three on the timer.
01:02:24Here's Ellis.
01:02:26About a four-second difference in the clocks.
01:02:28He's going to pull it out. And Hoyes
01:02:30missed the three.
01:02:32Poked out of bounds by Thomas.
01:02:38If Golden State
01:02:40holds for the final shot, Lindy Waters,
01:02:42who hit it three moments
01:02:44ago, hit the game-winning
01:02:46three-pointer.
01:02:48Buzzer beater in the preseason
01:02:50against the Clippers down in Hawaii where the
01:02:52Warriors had their training camp.
01:02:54Waters gives it up.
01:02:56Gets it back.
01:02:58And can't
01:03:00beat the buzzer there. Out of bounds
01:03:02to end the third quarter.
01:03:04Golden State will take a nine-point lead
01:03:06to the fourth on the
01:03:08strength of 24 made threes.
01:03:16Welcome back to
01:03:18NBA Wednesday. We're here with Mike Brown,
01:03:20the head coach of the Kings.
01:03:22First half, both these teams,
01:03:24they know how to put on a show. What did you
01:03:26make of your starters early on?
01:03:28We did a great job
01:03:30offensively. I thought we moved the ball well.
01:03:32Our spacing was good. A lot of our staples
01:03:34were there. We just didn't
01:03:36defend the three-point line. We haven't
01:03:38done that all night. They might be going
01:03:40for an NBA record against us tonight
01:03:42from behind the home. That would be
01:03:44certainly something in the preseason.
01:03:46Let me ask you about this particular
01:03:48young group you have out there. What do you want to
01:03:50see from them here to close out the game?
01:03:52I just want to see some of the things we talked about
01:03:54at halftime. We didn't have a lot of ball pressure
01:03:56in the first half. Our physicality
01:03:58wasn't there defensively.
01:04:00We got hurt from the three-point line
01:04:02because we didn't communicate and
01:04:04we weren't physical. I want to see if we can
01:04:06communicate, be physical, take away the
01:04:08three, and then get out and run.
01:04:10Mike, good luck. Thank you for the time as always.
01:04:12Appreciate you. Alright, back to you guys.
01:04:14In case you're wondering,
01:04:16the record is 29 for regular
01:04:18season. The Warriors
01:04:20record is 27 for a regular
01:04:22season game. The Golden State is 24
01:04:24as we start the fourth, and Boogie Ellis
01:04:26connects from about 10 feet.
01:04:28Of their 24 threes, 19
01:04:30of them assisted on.
01:04:32By himself, Pudzemski has
01:04:34five assists on threes.
01:04:38Out of bounds, going to go
01:04:40to the Kings.
01:04:42Mike was talking about defense there.
01:04:44We talked about their season
01:04:46two years ago where Mike
01:04:48gets them to third place in the
01:04:50West. 48 wins. They were marching
01:04:52toward 50, but their
01:04:54offense took a step back.
01:04:56He preached from the outset
01:04:58a season ago they had to lift their
01:05:00defensive level. I think
01:05:02both of these teams clearly are going to
01:05:04be able to score the basketball,
01:05:06but both
01:05:08need to improve their defense. Steve
01:05:10Kerr talked about this.
01:05:12They were 15th
01:05:14on the defensive end
01:05:16a season ago.
01:05:18You think back to the Warriors championship
01:05:20years.
01:05:22Everybody thinks about the offense because
01:05:24it was aesthetically one of the prettiest
01:05:26things to watch, but the
01:05:28fact was
01:05:30their defense was a
01:05:32pillar of their success.
01:05:34And one key player, Doris,
01:05:36Andrew Wiggins, in that run
01:05:38defensively, not available
01:05:40tonight. He's been under the weather, so he's
01:05:42not practicing until this
01:05:44week as Buddy Heald hits his
01:05:466-3 pointer, 25th for the
01:05:48Warriors, but
01:05:50Wiggins had a decent year,
01:05:52not a great year.
01:05:54It's possible as he continues to get older
01:05:56Wiggins to be back defensively to what he
01:05:58was a couple years ago. I don't think there's any question
01:06:00Steve has already thrown down
01:06:02the gauntlet. It's going to be an illegal screen
01:06:04as Podjemski
01:06:06makes sure the official
01:06:08sees that contact.
01:06:12Let's take a look at this.
01:06:14He's going to
01:06:16chase hard
01:06:18and scowl
01:06:20a little bit of a lean there.
01:06:24I mean, just barely a lean,
01:06:26right?
01:06:28Podjemski's hit the deck several times.
01:06:30Again, had to go to the locker room in the first half
01:06:32after falling to the ground on a hard screen.
01:06:34Here he is on
01:06:36the other end.
01:06:42Missed a shot. I don't know
01:06:44if that was a shot attempt or he thought somebody was going to
01:06:46come in there for a soaring dunk. We're going to give him
01:06:48the benefit of the doubt that that was
01:06:50a pass.
01:06:52Here's Anderson up the floor
01:06:54and can't
01:06:56scoop it up and in.
01:06:58So the
01:07:00NBA general manager survey
01:07:02just came out. The overwhelming favorites
01:07:04to win the championship, the Boston Celtics.
01:07:06They have not repeated
01:07:08since 1969
01:07:10the Celtics.
01:07:12Isn't that crazy?
01:07:14They did not repeat. That's right.
01:07:16The great series with the Lakers.
01:07:18That was three no good.
01:07:20Do you agree with the NBA general
01:07:22managers that they come into the season
01:07:24as the team to beat? No question.
01:07:26I think every year, unless
01:07:28there's a significant change.
01:07:30But I do think
01:07:32there's more that goes into it.
01:07:34I remember
01:07:36talking about this all the time. Sometimes there's a little
01:07:38luck involved. How healthy
01:07:40are you? How long does it take
01:07:42Kristaps Porzingis to get
01:07:44back and integrate into the lineup?
01:07:46Supposedly that's progressing quite
01:07:48well as we take another little break here.
01:07:50Gold State getting a little
01:07:52separation with a little more experience
01:07:54on the floor.
01:07:58The NBA on ESPN
01:08:00is presented by Popeyes
01:08:02Louisiana Kitchen.
01:08:06Celtics won it last year. We haven't had
01:08:08a repeat winner since the Warriors
01:08:102017-2018.
01:08:12Of course, Golden State lost to
01:08:14Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors in 19.
01:08:16Go ahead and finish your point on Boston as you were making
01:08:18before the break.
01:08:20Yeah, I was just saying
01:08:22luck sometimes plays a part.
01:08:24How healthy are you? How healthy
01:08:26are your opponents? Is there a key injury
01:08:28suffered from a key individual?
01:08:30Philadelphia's 76ers
01:08:32are legit formidable with the
01:08:34addition of Paul George as long as
01:08:36Joel Embiid stays healthy.
01:08:38I did want to go back to touch on one thing
01:08:40in Boston because I, along with so many
01:08:42others, was wrong a season ago.
01:08:44At the outset of the season
01:08:46what was everybody questioning in Boston?
01:08:48Their depth.
01:08:50With Peyton Pritchard, with Sam Houser,
01:08:52with Luke Cornett, etc.
01:08:54They did more than hold up.
01:08:58Not that Houser didn't have some tough
01:09:00moments, but there's a
01:09:02toughness and an edge to that team
01:09:04a season ago that was
01:09:06different to me than the Boston Celtics
01:09:08in the past under Tatum and
01:09:10Brown. There's an edge now.
01:09:12Now there's championship pedigree. They'll
01:09:14hold themselves differently. I'm
01:09:16excited to see them play this year.
01:09:18Let's go ahead and check in with George for more.
01:09:20Dave D.B., there's also
01:09:22a couple of other things that are a factor.
01:09:24Certainly injuries can play a factor.
01:09:26Not that we're wishing that upon anyone, but
01:09:28all teams go through stuff like that
01:09:30during a season. And then there's
01:09:32what Pat Riley coined when he was the
01:09:34head coach of the Lakers many, many years ago.
01:09:36He called it the disease of me,
01:09:38where some of the guys kind of want
01:09:40their own thing. You know what I'm saying? They want to
01:09:42do their own thing. They want to get a contract.
01:09:44They want to get more commercials.
01:09:46Whatever it is, but distracting
01:09:48from their main cause, which is
01:09:50to try to repeat and win a championship.
01:09:52And it's been so hard to do, as there's
01:09:54a loose ball foul
01:09:56underneath on Sacramento.
01:09:58Other than
01:10:00the Warriors and
01:10:02LeBron James'
01:10:04Miami Heat teams, along with
01:10:06Wade and Bosh, we have not seen
01:10:08a lot of repeat champs the last three years.
01:10:10It's very hard to win a championship.
01:10:12I don't
01:10:14necessarily worry about
01:10:16the disease of me in Boston.
01:10:18I don't. I think Tatum and
01:10:20Brown have been
01:10:22exceptional team players
01:10:24from the outset. I think
01:10:26the role and the number
01:10:28of things Tatum has been asked to do
01:10:30besides score,
01:10:32the rebounding has been so
01:10:34consistently good from him.
01:10:36Some of the defensive assignments
01:10:38he had to absorb en route to that title
01:10:40were
01:10:42challenging.
01:10:44By the way, Mason Jones fouled out.
01:10:46Brown taking an opportunity here for
01:10:48a teachable moment, spending some time with a young man
01:10:50over by the bench.
01:10:52He's talking through that.
01:10:54Here's Moody, putting up another three.
01:10:56That one's off the side of the rim.
01:10:58Rebounded by Lin.
01:11:00You know the other fascinating part of
01:11:02this to me
01:11:04is like
01:11:06our colleague Bob Myers must have had
01:11:08a thousand of these little choices to make
01:11:10over the course of his tenure.
01:11:12The moves you do make and the moves you don't make.
01:11:14So how many years were people
01:11:16hollering about Tatum and Brown
01:11:18not being a fit, not being able to play
01:11:20together, they don't like one another,
01:11:22etc, etc, etc.
01:11:24And the patience of Brad Stevens,
01:11:26those are the last two guys
01:11:28I worry about.
01:11:30That patience paid off last year
01:11:32and two years ago people were wondering
01:11:34they got so close
01:11:36making it to the conference finals
01:11:38coming back from down 3-0
01:11:40and then losing badly game 7
01:11:42Did they reach their ceiling
01:11:46and they're just not going to be able to take that next step?
01:11:48They prove people wrong.
01:11:50Is there a team this year in the NBA
01:11:52that has gone through that, that got close
01:11:54but couldn't pull it off, that takes the next
01:11:56step this year and is a contender?
01:11:58Is that Oklahoma City, which couldn't take the next step
01:12:00as a young team
01:12:02lost in the second round of the NBA playoffs.
01:12:04Are they the team
01:12:06that could, with the additions
01:12:08of Caruso and Hardenstein
01:12:10make a jump?
01:12:12Is the scar tissue deep enough
01:12:14in Oklahoma City yet?
01:12:16Because we know this, the Celtics
01:12:18that group had some scar tissue.
01:12:207 minute mark
01:12:22here in the final frame of this preseason
01:12:24game in Sacramento.
01:12:26The Warriors up 7, Steph Curry by the way
01:12:28in the first half at 13 points made 3-3's.
01:12:30DeMar DeRozan
01:12:32in his Kings debut
01:12:3415 points in 16 minutes
01:12:36went 6 of 6 from the floor.
01:12:38The smooth
01:12:40transition for DeRozan with his new teammates
01:12:42no surprise to anybody that's watched
01:12:44DeRozan the last 15 years
01:12:46can fit him with just about anybody.
01:12:50Jones with a
01:12:52fall away comes up short
01:12:54out of bounds will stay with Sacramento
01:12:56though.
01:12:58Two weeks away from
01:13:00an NBA regular season double header
01:13:02opening night here on ESPN.
01:13:04Remember
01:13:06there's DeMar. Remember when Kevin Durant
01:13:08said I can pack up my game and play with
01:13:10anybody anywhere. You know who else
01:13:12can say that? DeMar DeRozan.
01:13:14No question.
01:13:16Ellis banks it in. Speaking of Durant
01:13:18year two of
01:13:20the Beal-Booker-Durant
01:13:22show. It didn't work out last year.
01:13:24Nobody's talking about that team.
01:13:26New coach Mike Budenholzer takes over for Frank
01:13:28Bogle. I think they're going to win an awful lot
01:13:30of regular season games and be well positioned.
01:13:32Pass by
01:13:34Moody and the left handed jam by
01:13:36Jackson Davis. Lennon transition
01:13:38beat the defense down
01:13:40floor.
01:13:46Here's Pat Spencer
01:13:48a world class lacrosse
01:13:50player at Loyola
01:13:52Maryland before playing basketball
01:13:54at Northwestern. Four time
01:13:56All-American.
01:13:58Played five games last year with
01:14:00the Warriors.
01:14:02Now in his second season.
01:14:062019 NCAA
01:14:08lacrosse MVP.
01:14:24Here's Jalen McDaniels
01:14:26to be a key player
01:14:28off the bench for Sacramento.
01:14:32Shot clock at three.
01:14:34Isaac Jones
01:14:36drives and finishes. There's that potential
01:14:38that Maryland told us about three games.
01:14:42At that size from the free throw
01:14:44line and down. Put it on the deck.
01:14:46That is nicely done.
01:14:50Getting some second half minutes
01:14:52with his head coach
01:14:54watching to see what progress he makes.
01:14:56The adjustment mid-air.
01:14:58Pretty.
01:15:00That's a proud papa right there.
01:15:02Rick Celebrini, the director of sports
01:15:04medicine and performance for the Warriors.
01:15:06His son Macklin
01:15:08the number one overall pick
01:15:10in the 2024
01:15:12NHL entry draft to the San Jose
01:15:14Sharks just down the street basically
01:15:16from Pops over in
01:15:18the Bay Area. And let's not forget
01:15:20he has another son, his eldest son
01:15:22his oldest son Aiden is also on the
01:15:24Vancouver Canucks guys so
01:15:26Pops doing a lot of stuff. Oh, I should mention
01:15:28his daughter as well.
01:15:30The number one tennis player at 16 years
01:15:32old for her age bracket. That's a
01:15:34heck of a sports family right there.
01:15:36And you got a great kick here with the Warriors
01:15:38too, the dads. It's amazing
01:15:40what Rick and his wife
01:15:42have been able to do there. Macklin
01:15:44makes his debut tomorrow night
01:15:46and Rick will be able to see that.
01:15:48How cool is that?
01:15:50Utah made its debut
01:15:52as an NHL franchise last
01:15:54night. I don't know if you saw that.
01:15:56Here 112-106, by the way
01:15:58the Warriors 26-3, their record is
01:16:0027 for a regular season game.
01:16:02The Splash Brothers have been
01:16:04broken up but the threes are still
01:16:06going down tonight against Clay Thompson
01:16:08now a member of the Dallas Mavericks
01:16:10he will return to Chase Center
01:16:12for the first time November 12th.
01:16:14Count the basket
01:16:16and one, so the old-fashioned
01:16:18three-point chance here for Guy Santos.
01:16:20It will be
01:16:22really interesting to just
01:16:24see the vibe of the Warriors this year without
01:16:26Clay Thompson. Steve Kerr talked with us
01:16:28at length before the game about
01:16:30obviously Thompson the player
01:16:32but the personality and the energy
01:16:34the uniqueness of Clay Thompson
01:16:36that will be missed in that
01:16:38locker room and obviously Steph
01:16:40will miss him greatly.
01:16:42He's one of the greatest backcourts of all time.
01:16:44It has to feel incredibly
01:16:46strange and different, the tenor
01:16:48and the tone
01:16:50but then I think back to the video
01:16:52that came out this summer where
01:16:54I can't remember where Steph was but
01:16:56Derek Lively and Clay
01:16:58Thompson were having a conversation and
01:17:00Steph kind of walks up to him and goes
01:17:02ew, like gross, this isn't normal
01:17:04or natural.
01:17:06Here at a WNBA game in New York
01:17:08it just happens to be there at the same time.
01:17:14Can they get to 27?
01:17:16There it is.
01:17:18Lindy Waters
01:17:20giving
01:17:22Golden State its 27th
01:17:24made three.
01:17:26Still four minutes to go here.
01:17:28Jackson Davis rebounds.
01:17:30I'm just interested
01:17:32to see if they get to 50 attempts.
01:17:3648 right now.
01:17:38By the way, we talked about the Warriors side of it
01:17:40how about the Dallas side of it? What does Clay
01:17:42Thompson do for Maverick's team
01:17:44that is coming off an NBA finals
01:17:46appearance?
01:17:48Obviously, championship pedigree, four-time champion
01:17:50just think about
01:17:52the ability of
01:17:54Luka Doncic who unseated
01:17:56Steph Curry for the first time in
01:17:58ten years in that GM survey
01:18:00as the best point guard in the league
01:18:02in fact, Steph was third
01:18:04Luka and Shea were one
01:18:06and two
01:18:08but think about the kinds of catch and
01:18:10shoot opportunities Clay should have
01:18:12for the Dallas Mavericks
01:18:14right? I mean
01:18:16between Kyrie Irving, his ability
01:18:18to get by and get downhill
01:18:20and Luka Doncic
01:18:22passes from every angle
01:18:24and every spot on the floor
01:18:26his vision
01:18:30By the way, Steph still got 30%
01:18:32I think of the vote
01:18:34Luka 37% I believe it was
01:18:38Check in with George for more
01:18:40You may remember we were both there, we saw it live
01:18:42Dallas couldn't hit a three
01:18:44in that series in the finals either
01:18:46they had a ton leading up to that series
01:18:48but Clay will at least help them
01:18:50there, if they would have just hit some threes
01:18:52they could have been in some of those games
01:18:54Again, Dallas
01:18:56was the five seed last year
01:19:00made it to the finals, beat Oklahoma City
01:19:02and conference semis in the Minnesota
01:19:04and the conference finals in five
01:19:06games
01:19:10117-106
01:19:12closing in on three minutes to go
01:19:14these teams will play
01:19:16in the preseason again in a couple of nights
01:19:18up in San Francisco
01:19:20and
01:19:2228 threes
01:19:24if this was the regular season
01:19:26would be a new record
01:19:28for the Warriors, Reese Beekman
01:19:30knocking it down
01:19:32and now Jackson Davis with the slight
01:19:34transition
01:19:36You gotta be thrilled
01:19:38with the offense
01:19:42I just like how hard they have
01:19:44played all night
01:19:50And the tone was set by that first group
01:19:52Steph Curry and Draymond Green were going hard
01:19:54in that first half
01:20:0034 assists for Golden State now
01:20:02Look at Trace Jackson Davis
01:20:04run the floor, we know this guy is a legit
01:20:06threat at the rim
01:20:08just straight rim run
01:20:10takes the pass
01:20:16He too, a rookie that inserted
01:20:18himself into the lineup a season ago
01:20:20with his smart play
01:20:22And the last couple months really came on
01:20:24for the Warriors
01:20:30A rookie at Boston College
01:20:32second round draft pick on the floor
01:20:34right now for the Warriors
01:20:36for the final couple minutes here
01:20:44McDaniels trying to shake Beekman
01:20:48Here's Boogie Ellis
01:20:5010 points off the bench
01:20:54For Sacramento
01:20:56Nice move by Isaac Jones
01:21:00A lot of skill
01:21:04For a guy that size and again
01:21:06not played a ton of basketball
01:21:08got into the sport late
01:21:10Played junior college
01:21:12and then one year at Idaho and one at Washington State
01:21:14Good defense by the Kings
01:21:16And he ends up at the junior college
01:21:18literally only because
01:21:20a friend of his was going to play
01:21:22or wanted to play
01:21:24and the coach at the junior college said
01:21:26bring somebody 6'8 or bigger
01:21:28and so he asked Jones
01:21:30He's like yeah, I'll go play
01:21:35And the next thing you know he's in the NBA
01:21:37just a handful of years later
01:21:39That is a crazy
01:21:41unexpected journey
01:21:45Approaching one minute to go
01:21:48And more preseason action
01:21:50Sunday with a double header on ESPN
01:21:52regular season double header
01:21:54two weeks from tonight
01:21:56SportsCenter coming up
01:21:58We'll have highlights from NBA action
01:22:00Major League Baseball playoffs
01:22:04Aaron Rodgers comments
01:22:06on the Jets head coaching
01:22:08situation and much more coming up on
01:22:10SportsCenter here when we're done
01:22:16Jones calling for it
01:22:18now facing up
01:22:20Goes to the baseline and scores again
01:22:34Lyles thought about it
01:22:36Beekman will take it
01:22:38That would have tied the regular season
01:22:40record for made threes
01:22:4229
01:22:44Chicago at Miami
01:22:46Bucks, excuse me
01:22:48Milwaukee at Miami
01:22:50December 29, 2020
01:22:52The Bucks hit 29 threes
01:22:54Golden State with 28 tonight
01:22:56MJ standing by
01:22:58Victor Wemenyama
01:23:00Chris Paul playing together for the first time
01:23:02Preseason highlights of that
01:23:04Aaron Rodgers talking about why he's
01:23:06not to blame for Robert Sala
01:23:08being let go as the
01:23:10Jets head coach and Stan Barrett
01:23:12is going to talk with Steph Curry
01:23:14as well on SportsCenter next
01:23:20Well as far as preseason games
01:23:22go
01:23:24as good as it gets offensively
01:23:26especially for the Golden State Warriors
01:23:29122 points
01:23:31and 54% shooting and 28
01:23:33made threes. DeMar DeRozan was perfect
01:23:35in his Kings debut
01:23:376 of 6 from the floor
01:23:3915 points
01:23:41Steph Curry had 13 in 16 minutes
01:23:43made 3 threes. Kaminga had
01:23:4516, knocked down 4 threes. Buddy
01:23:47healed 22
01:23:49off the bench. A final score
01:23:51122-112
01:23:53Warriors beat the Kings. For Doris Burke,
01:23:55George Cedano, our entire crew, I'm Dave Pasch
