Tiley and Hewitt expect Kyrgios to make Aus Open comeback

Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley & Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt are bullish on Nick Kyrgios' chances of returning to the court by January.

00:00We would love to have Nick back playing in 2025.

00:04We believe he will be.

00:05He's out there practising playing, being in touch with his team over the last couple of days.

00:09He's fully expecting to play and we're expecting to see Nick on the court playing.

00:13He's certainly been on the practice court way more than I've seen in the last year and a half.

00:18Wimbledon I saw pretty closely, Nick hitting with a lot of the guys over there.

00:21In the US Open, he was hitting on an indoor court next to Tenacity and myself one day.

00:26He was in there.

00:27So he's certainly doing a lot more stuff around.

00:30It's just whether the body can hold up day after day.

00:32It's tough and it's probably the biggest challenge he's ever faced.

00:36To have a setback, especially of that amount of time now as well.

00:39And the game keeps improving.

00:42The guys keep taking it to new levels as well.

00:45And for him to come in and obviously try and play.

00:48There's a number of players in the draw, which if he goes out there and plays his best tennis,

00:53he'll be able to take care of in straight sets.

00:55There's going to be a lot of guys that are going to be able to push him

00:57and how he responds to that, obviously, by not doing it for the last couple of years.

01:01And that's not only physically, it's a mental challenge as well out there.

01:05Don't know the answer to whether he gets the Wildcard or Protected Ranking yet,

01:07but we'll ensure that if Nick's out there playing, that he's going to be playing in the main draw.

01:12The tournament would love it, but the fans to go out there and see Nick.

01:16He's going to be playing a high level compared to any other players out there,

01:21I can assure you of that.

01:22Whether he can get back straight away to his highest level,

01:25that's probably going to take a bit more time.
