00:00That's right, I've been dying to see him. I mean, all the talk before the match by the lads has been about the two number 10s, and rightly so, but the viewers should have a look out for this kid. He's about 21, Kruzinecki, the number 15, the big blonde boy.
00:11Away we go. Argentina are playing in the blue shirts, black shorts, and Maradona had his first touch of the ball there and laid it back to Giusti.
00:21Argentina have had to make a couple of changes. Monzon, the defender, the tall defender who scored against Romania, is out through suspension.
00:30Here Argentina are attacking straight away down the left. They've only got two men inside the penalty area and it was Hanzi Bejic who cleared it and will get the ball back.
00:41Pumps a second clearance downfield to Susic. Badly given away though. Buricaga forward, acrobatically headed out by Hanzi Bejic.
00:52It's a lovely stadium this one in Florence and we haven't got the seemingly obligatory running track around it, so there's a good atmosphere here.
00:59Here's Buricaga, the man who scored the winning goal four years ago in the final. Forward, good ball too.
01:07That was Basualdo, playing wide on the left. The injuries to Lautacaccia.
01:15To the player of the tournament there. It reminds me very much of when we were coming here to Italy ten years ago in the European Championships.
01:22Here's Maradona. What sort of mood he's in today, we wonder. He's fed the ball through towards Caniggia, a tussle, Buricaga over the crossbar.
01:30There was no whistle, so it would have counted. Carlos Bilardo, the Argentine manager, plenty to say about that.
01:40But there was no whistle I don't think from the referee here as Caniggia went in with Spasic and the ball ricocheted and Buricaga had a chance.
01:51Free kick taken to Susic. Good turn by Susic as well. And here's a great ball, what a chance that was.
02:05Josic coming in, met it almost perfectly. He drilled the shot over the crossbar. It was a lightning break.
02:14Well that's a brilliant piece of play on the right wing there from Susic. He's coming in all the time in the world and really with the technique Josic has got, you would have expected him to have put that away.
02:23I mean that's a brilliant opportunity. Super play.
02:26Good ball. Susic. He's got a man wide on his right, that man being Vujic.
02:32Again he turned well. Turned just too many around. He's given back though. Stojkovic again.
02:38Lovely bit of interplay and nipped out to that right side to Prozinecki.
02:43Back to Vujic who finds him well. There's the header in. Buricaga out.
02:51Yugoslavia have actually created more space around the penalty area than Argentina so far.
02:57Stojkovic. Lovely ball again. Prozinecki. Hits around his man. Hits the shot in and Prozinecki a flashing drive across the face of Gojic. Gojic is upright.
03:12And that's the first little flash we've seen from him in attack.
03:15Yeah he's looked full of confidence. Super cross field ball from Stojkovic that led to the attack.
03:20Stojkovic incidentally looks as if he took a rattle from Husti when he knocked that ball.
03:25Good shot from the young lad. Good shot. Takes the man on. Very confident. Positive. Hits the back of the ball. Gets a deflection.
03:33Vujic with the throw in. Yugoslavia have got four men inside the penalty area. They're dangerous at these sort of set pieces.
03:48And across the face of Gojic's goal again. This time from Jozic. And this goalkeeper does not look at all comfortable to me.
03:55No he's not the best in the world. That's an interesting development though in all the games. The advent of this long throw. Good touch on from Jozic. He's just managed to scramble it wide.
04:05Bit of argy bargy going on there until they sort it out and it's Argentina's throw.
04:10The problem he's got as well of course is his marker Shabanadzic. He's got a booking. He can't really afford. He's getting close to him. There's one now. But he can't really afford to...
04:20Oh and Shabanadzic is in trouble again. The referee thinks about being late. I think he's gonna go. Shabanadzic was booked a few minutes ago. He tried once to bring Maradona down there.
04:32He achieved it the second time and the Yugoslav players are surrounding the Swiss referee here who seem determined to reach for the red card.
04:40He's already given him a yellow card. He can't give him another yellow card. He's got to go and Shabanadzic is off.
04:48That's just the very point I was making. He can't afford. That's rocks for brains. He knows he's on sudden death. He's trying to get to balls against a player who's one of the best in the world at accepting balls and turning.
05:00I mean that was just a senseless challenge. The referee actually, if we see the incident again, the referee actually lets Maradona have the first advantage and Shabanadzic tries to chop him again. That's barmy.
05:11I think even the second time he was thinking of well I might let him get away with it. Here we see it. Here we see it. But once he's said something he's got to go.
05:20Yeah he's already fouled him once. He's already fouled him once there. Prior to that, just earlier in the movement. Now he's fouled him again and the referee's no alternative.
05:29And he's coming over now to speak with Enrico Ossim, the Yugoslav coach and I think he's saying listen, you know, this man is your responsibility. He's got to come off.
05:40And even Ossim is saying sit down and take your place on the bench and take your punishment. So Yugoslavia are down to ten men after half an hour.
05:50Ossim ought to be slaughtering Shabanadzic actually for that because that could very well. They were in a comfortable situation. Now they've thrown the onus completely on the Argentinians.
06:01But it's just a very, very point. He's got to be patient. He can't get to the ball there. It's coming on. We know Maradona likes to turn inside of his left side. That's just sheer blatant bad professionalism.
06:13Well now we'll see what Argentina are made of and we'll see what Yugoslavia are made of as well. Ten men for an hour against the world champions. That's really brought a buzz around the stadium.
06:25It's also stopped the drums beating for a while but they've plenty to shout about. But if it doesn't always work out then just because you're playing ten men you're going to win a match.
06:35Instant Scotland against Uruguay four years ago. But Maradona with the free kick for Argentina. Still the crowd whistling at the decision of the referee. Maradona into the crowd.
06:49Kimmich here has got the break here to Calderon but the whistle has sounded.
06:53The interesting thing of course now is are they going to stick to the same tactics and man to man mark Maradona and if they are who?
07:00The dying moments of the first half. And that's really driven across. Put behind for a second one from the opposite side of the field.
07:14Wouldn't half set up the second half Ron if they could score.
07:19Well you've all seen Josic has always looked a threat on these hasn't he the number six.
07:22He's up there now and he's in there now. And he nearly got a flick and the ball hasn't gone out. It's gone straight through to Stojkovic.
07:28There's another cross and the keeper was in trouble for a moment. Josic had stayed up and he has looked as likely as anybody to score.
07:37But the referee now points to the dressing. That's Vujic who's down and got a knee injury I think in that scramble inside the goal mouth.
07:45So we almost had a dramatic finale to the first half. But here we've seen no goals as yet.
07:51But a reminder that Yugoslavia are a man down having had Shabanadzic sent off.
07:57They couldn't force it through. Stojkovic just supplying the cross and Josic had stayed up there but couldn't beat Gojko Cisbad.
08:06Away we go then. Second half here in Florence. Argentina against Yugoslavia. The prize at a place in the semi-finals.
08:14Stojkovic can't get around Vasvaldo. No substitutions made incidentally.
08:24And the choice of substitutes of course is very confined nowadays by those who are available.
08:36I mean players are out with bookings like Monzon of Argentina.
08:41Argentina on the bench today have got Batista the big man from River Plate.
08:46De Zotte the striker from Cremonese here in Italy. Troilio. Cancelarex the goalkeeper and Lorenzo who plays in Italy for Bari.
08:56And talk of the devil.
09:01Today winning his 77th cap. It's a long time since he scored a goal.
09:07He's got 31 for his country but he's taking a free kick now.
09:10Comes off the defender and the header onto the top of the crossbar was from Ruggieri.
09:18Oscar Ruggieri the Real Madrid central defender disappointed there. He angled the header back alright.
09:24Yes it looks a dangerous situation. He's managed, looks as if he's managed to keep the ball well in play.
09:30He's not going for goal there.
09:34Again they lose out and again Susic will run at their heart.
09:38He's got a man wide right. Stojkovic.
09:41Stojkovic who destroyed Spain and gets around Boswaldo.
09:46Puts the cross over. Great chance here.
09:49Susic couldn't take it.
09:52His first touch just letting him down. He took it on the ankle.
09:56On the instep really and it was just too far ahead of him.
10:00Meanwhile they've got a defender lying on the ground. Jozic.
10:04They've got to defend against Caniggia's pace. He gets around Spasic.
10:07He gets around Hadzibejic and he's got nobody to cross the ball to.
10:11You'd have thought it was Argentina earlier.
10:15That's right. What a great situation for them there that was.
10:17I mean Stojkovic does exceptionally well going at the last man. Beating him for fun.
10:22Watch him there. Goes at Boswaldo as if he's not there. Plays like a natural winger.
10:26Stands a great ball in to the far post. He's a bit unlucky there because that's Komposic.
10:30Susic is a very, very talented player.
10:34Funnily enough Troglio was another of those who was on a booking.
10:37He's on two. That means he's out of the semi-final if they get through.
10:40Here's Savicevic who did well there inside the area and drives his shot across the face of goal.
10:45In fact it's not even going to be a goal kick.
10:47He did very well because Serizuela nearly pulled him to the ground in a rugby tackle.
10:51Inside the penalty box. He's a big strong fellow this Savicevic.
10:54He's got a grip on him inside the penalty box. That's not far short technically of a penalty.
11:00As in the England match and well we can see that this one might be a marathon too.
11:07Konigi a lovely ball inside though. Now they do look dangerous.
11:10Calderon. Maldonado. Maradona. Good save this time.
11:15Shot from Buricaga. The save from Ivkovic with his right palm.
11:22That's as good a save as he's had to make.
11:24Yeah that's possibly the first save he's had to make.
11:27Good setting up play. Good little there from Maradona.
11:29Buricaga hit the ball firmly but as you say it's a very confident save.
11:36Such a big fellow Ivkovic. It was a long way to get down.
11:40Maradona with the corner for Argentina. Spasic out.
11:44Savicevic stumbles along and finally finds Stojkovic.
11:50Savicevic once more. He's got Prozinecki on his right.
11:56And free kick is for Yugoslavia.
12:01Getting plenty of awards. That's a good ball. That's a super lay-up and well struck.
12:08Spasic who pops up on the right for a change.
12:11Not a good game he's had.
12:14In there was Ruggeri. Maradona nicks it on to Kanegie.
12:19Wide is Calderon who's switched to the right for a change.
12:24Maradona little flick to Buricaga. Opening it up for Troia.
12:27What a great chance here for Ruggeri.
12:29And the keeper Ivkovic has done his job well.
12:31He's hurt his back as well in the process.
12:35Well that's the first time they've really created an overlap.
12:38And Ivkovic in some agony there.
12:41He has had a back problem by the way.
12:43That's right. Brilliant into passing in.
12:45For the first time ever they get the spare man up.
12:47The spare man's up now.
12:49Great goalkeeping by Ivkovic.
12:51Brave. Kept his eye on the ball. Stood firm.
12:53Didn't give himself up.
12:55From Ruggeri's point of view he should have done an awful lot better.
12:58But fortune favours the brave. He's done well that lad.
13:01I think they've been a bit worried about him because he's been playing with a bruised shoulder.
13:05And that's exactly what he landed on.
13:08That was neat.
13:10See when the Argentinians are a good side and when they're full of confidence
13:13people are pouring up into support positions.
13:15That hasn't happened.
13:16We have a late winner for them.
13:18Stojkovic with it.
13:20And the punch out by Goykic. Unnecessary in the event.
13:24The whistler already sailed in.
13:28Savicevic certainly has impressed me in both games I've seen him.
13:32Yes to be fair he gives it pace and power.
13:36An actual centre forward basically playing in a deep line role.
13:39As I say he can thrust forward very well.
13:49So little time left.
13:51The World Champions Argentina being held by a Yugoslavian side
13:55that has been down to 10 men from the 30th minute.
13:59And indeed we will have extra time here in Florence.
14:03So at the end of 90 minutes it's Argentina 0, Yugoslavia 0.
14:08We'll have the extra time for you after this break.
14:11Taking that out.
14:14So the start of extra time here.
14:16ATV in association with National Power.
14:20Bringing you Argentina vs Yugoslavia live from the Comunale Stadium in Florence.
14:26It's a lovely colourful scene. A glorious Saturday afternoon.
14:30But I think we've got to be honest Ron and say that the football hasn't quite been so glorious.
14:35Well I think we'll say that about the Argentinians.
14:39I mean keep stressing the point they're World Champions.
14:42They're playing here, they've had all the luck in the world to get to the quarter finals.
14:45And now they've even been luckier than the opposition to get a man sent off.
14:49And yet they've made no conscious effort to try and win the game.
14:53There's Savicevic who's looked as good as anybody since he came on.
14:56Spasic.
15:01The back pass was by the substitute Dezotti.
15:06Come down the right with Ruggieri from Real Madrid.
15:12Forward to Kanagir who must surely be offside and is.
15:19Trusted with it.
15:21And Argentina at least five men in there including the tall Ruggieri who's calling for it.
15:28Floated to the back post to Buricaga.
15:31Nodded on by Ruggieri. Out.
15:33First time only as far as the man who took the kick in the first place.
15:40And the tussle was won in midfield by Vojic.
15:43And down the left goes Prozinecki.
15:48Good cross now and they might be in trouble.
15:50Stojkovic wants to do it all himself.
15:52He's turned again. That's delightful.
15:54Savicevic with the touch over the top.
15:57And they all clutch their heads down in the substitutes area.
16:03And Savicevic clutches the head himself.
16:05He knows he should have done better with that.
16:07It was delightfully set up as well by Stojkovic.
16:09Brilliant play by Stojkovic.
16:10Turns the defender inside out and just rolls it to the near post.
16:14Savicevic coming in on his favourite foot.
16:16Left foot. Little touch here over the line and it's a goal.
16:19Best chance of the match if they know it.
16:22To be fair to him that's a more difficult ball to deal with than maybe the one earlier on
16:26that Josic had the volley.
16:28Because the ball coming across you can be a bit difficult.
16:37Maradona, the captain of Argentina, playing it wide to Giusti.
16:40They've got plenty of men in the middle waiting for the cross.
16:43And he seemed to come from nowhere did Trollio.
16:46And Ivkovic again saves his side.
16:49It's the second time he's had to do so.
16:51Trollio just stole into the space behind the defence.
16:54And for the first time Hanzi Bejic hadn't picked up the man.
16:59But now the break is on for Stojkovic of Yugoslavia.
17:02Down the right he goes.
17:04Maradona of all people is the one who comes back to confront him.
17:07Stojkovic's cross is good.
17:09Savicevic will hit it and he smacks it over the bar.
17:14Chances at both ends but the one first of all at the other end wrong.
17:17Trollio in the space and time stood still.
17:20Trollio, yes, got in the box very, very well.
17:23Looked odds on to score.
17:24Full marks again to Ivkovic.
17:26Realised he'd come into Noemansland.
17:27Here's the other one.
17:28That's a good ball from Stojkovic.
17:29Pulls it all the way back to Savicevic.
17:31And he's only just unlucky.
17:32That's dipping viciously.
17:34But the one at the other end, I thought, I'll be honest, I thought he was odds on.
17:39Must score because the keeper looked to have got in Noemansland.
17:41But what the keeper does do well, he holds his position.
17:44He looks, watch him look now.
17:45He's not going to give himself up.
17:46He's going to stand and make a save.
17:47And he's made a great save.
17:49Bejic have just swallowed the thing up.
17:52Stojkovic to Prozinecki.
17:53Down the line he takes the return.
17:58Good play.
17:59Lovely play again.
18:00And Savicevic came in for a stooping header.
18:03And again it was Stojkovic who was the creator.
18:07Savicevic wanting to round it all off and just couldn't quite get there.
18:11But very inventive play.
18:13You just get the impression when Stojkovic goes out on this right wing now,
18:17he's got the beating of the left-sided defender at will.
18:20That was bad luck.
18:21That's the value of having an attacking player coming from midfield.
18:24This guy, Savicevic.
18:26And that signals the end of the first period of extra time here in Florence.
18:31Still we await a breakthrough.
18:33Argentina nil, Yugoslavia nil.
18:36And are we going to have the drama of a penalty shootout?
18:39Certainly Carlos Bilardo.
18:40I don't think we'll want that.
18:42At least 15 minutes to go.
18:44Perhaps, who knows, a little bit more for the penalties.
18:49Here we go.
18:52With the ball through to Di Zotti.
18:54That was a great ball too.
18:55And Di Zotti checks, drives the shot over the top
18:58and it curled around Ivkovic.
19:00And Di Zotti knows that that was a very good chance
19:03spurned in the very first seconds of the second period of extra time.
19:07And that's right, I think they've caught the defence.
19:09The defence are sleeping here from the kick-off, probably static.
19:11The ball stood up for him well.
19:13I think it was running away from him.
19:15It's given him another chance.
19:17And he's not so far wide on that.
19:20Savicevic set up again and again.
19:22He played it straight against the defender.
19:24Argentina come once more.
19:28Di Zotti laying the ball off.
19:32Giusti.
19:33Oh, and over the top.
19:34Maradona.
19:35And I don't think he realised he was onside.
19:38The flag stayed down that time.
19:40Maradona taking it in his stride.
19:42Goes down clutching the knee.
19:45I think the linesman's just got out of prison by Maradona doing that.
19:50That would be more than interesting to look at that again
19:53because to me it looked miles offside.
19:58Well, certainly with the naked eye.
20:01We might see that again in a moment.
20:03But anyway, it's still 0-0.
20:05Yugoslavia hold on.
20:06Troilo comes.
20:11Feeds Ruggeri.
20:15Troilo.
20:23Giusti.
20:25Having a go again.
20:27Can he do it?
20:28Breaks.
20:29Troilo.
20:30Forward.
20:31Again, there's no offside.
20:32The chance is here.
20:33Biswaldo.
20:34And a keeper.
20:35Edmundo Savicevic.
20:36And it's gone into the net.
20:38And it's no goal.
20:40It is no goal.
20:41No goal.
20:42The referee is surrounded by Argentine players.
20:45He used his hand, I think.
20:47He did.
20:50Shades of Mexico.
20:52Not quite the same.
20:54That's going to be interesting.
20:55The Swiss referee has overruled all the protests and the linesman.
21:01Bracaga leading the complaints.
21:04And it really would have been an injustice
21:06if Argentina had stolen a semi-final place like that.
21:10That's certainly going to be an interesting run.
21:11It would have been, John.
21:12I'm not totally sure that the referee's seen it.
21:15I'm not totally sure the referee's seen it.
21:18Nothing to replace firing them back, to be honest, at the moment.
21:22But certainly the linesman gave nothing.
21:24That's what the Argentinean players...
21:29And down here on the touchline, we have still got trouble
21:32because Maradona is involved with the Yugoslav bench.
21:36And the referee, Roethlinsberger, has got a problem on his hands.
21:48Rodrigo Ossim can afford to smile
21:50because he knows that the goal has been disallowed.
21:52There's Batista, one of the Argentine substitutes,
21:55got plenty to say about things.
21:58I think they are a bit lucky on that goal if it has been disallowed.
22:02Well, it has been disallowed.
22:04My own good feeling is the referee didn't see it.
22:06I think he's got a player's reaction.
22:14There we are.
22:16Looking at that, John, it's certainly not as blatant
22:18as the one in Mexico, that's for sure.
22:20But I think there was a great reaction from the players.
22:22Which often tells you the story.
22:24Can we see it any better from here?
22:27Well, the referee has certainly ruled handball against Borrachaga.
22:33And, well, who knows?
22:35I think...
22:36And still, it seems we're destined for a penalty shootout.
22:41But here's Caniggia for Argentina now.
22:43Well, he might as well have a go at them now.
22:45And he's got the pace and Spasić knew no other way to stop him.
22:48And in fact, the referee says,
22:50that's the end of extra time.
22:52And the first quarterfinal in the 1990 World Cup
22:56goes to a penalty shootout.
23:05So, each side will take five penalties apiece.
23:09We just look again at this incident here.
23:11And then I'll continue the explanation.
23:13The goalkeeper couldn't get there.
23:15The referee said Borrachaga handled it.
23:18The referee said Borrachaga handled it.
23:21Hard to see from the position that he was in as well.
23:24As you said, Ron, it might well have been the upper arm there.
23:27It didn't look as though he was controlling it.
23:29Certainly, it was a very different situation
23:31to the one which Maradona exploited against England four years ago.
23:35The first free kick is being taken by Serizuela of Argentina,
23:39who scores.
23:43That's just the sort of start his country needed.
23:45Jose Serizuela of River Plate makes it 1-0
23:50for the World Champions.
23:56And the ball obligingly placed on the spot by Sergio Goycachea
24:02for the first of the Yugoslavian players to step forward.
24:06And that player will be Dragan Stojkovic,
24:09the man who has made such an impact
24:11in the last two games, certainly in the World Cup.
24:16Imperative two for Yugoslavia to get their first one in
24:21and keep it going.
24:22Morale-wise, they do not want to go behind.
24:27Stojkovic against Goycachea
24:31to make it 1-1.
24:36And he's missed!
24:40And if ever a player didn't deserve to miss a penalty,
24:43it was Stojkovic.
24:44Let's see if that's free-run.
24:45Watch the keeper now.
24:46Is he not moving?
24:50I think if the referee applies that to the letter of the law,
24:53that's a retake.
24:55He's not moving, he's gone for a walk.
24:57He almost chipped it, didn't he?
24:59He was very, very relaxed about the whole affair.
25:03It's curling and it's clipping almost the whole of the crossbar,
25:06really.
25:07And Argentina are one in front.
25:10So Buracaga, the man whose goal won the World Cup four years ago,
25:16steps forward to try and make it 2-0.
25:24And he does so.
25:25To be fair, that goalkeeper moved as well rather early,
25:28did Ivkovic.
25:29And Buracaga knows he's got his team in the driving seat now.
25:35Again, the goalkeeper was moving, no question.
25:38But he kept his head, kept his cool.
25:40And it's 2-0.
25:41If he stays stood, there's a chance that's within diving range of him.
25:47So this time, Gojkocir takes his place on the line.
25:52And it's young Robert Prozinecki coming forward for Yugoslavia.
25:56And the pressure on him is immense.
25:58He knows he simply has to score.
26:03He's got to make it 2-1.
26:08To be fair to the boy, he hasn't shown too many nerves in the match.
26:13Prozinecki for Yugoslavia.
26:16And he steps up and he makes it 2-1.
26:24And whistling all around the stadium as we have a look again
26:28at Prozinecki's perfect penalty.
26:31He struck this one so well.
26:33And he wasn't put up by the goalkeeper.
26:38But there is a deafening din around the stadium at the moment
26:41because the captain of Argentina, Diego Maradona,
26:45is next on the hotspot.
26:50Maradona to make it 3-1.
26:53And he's failed.
26:56And he looks to the skies.
27:01And God wasn't on his side this time.
27:04And it was a wretched penalty.
27:06I'll tell you what, the goalkeepers dived forward for that.
27:08It was terrible.
27:11Still not a good penalty, Ron.
27:13And it's all level again.
27:16In the sense that both sides have missed one.
27:18So if Savicevic scores, it'll be 2-2 with two weeks to go.
27:26Maradona, well I did say earlier he might miss.
27:29Savicevic scores and it's 2-2.
27:33And two weeks to go.
27:35Yes, I did it.
27:37Diego didn't.
27:41It is funny, I did say about Zico missing four years ago.
27:44Here's the greatest player in the world, Maradona.
27:46That's exactly right.
27:47This is a lovely smooth penalty.
27:48That's a good strike.
27:49Smooth penalty, that.
27:52Trollio for Argentina will be the next.
27:58And the next one to miss will feel pretty awful.
28:01Pedro Trollio.
28:04And he's missed as well.
28:06And all of a sudden it's turning sour for the world champions.
28:11Maradona failed.
28:13Trollio fails.
28:15And now it's the Yugoslav flags that are waving.
28:19Would you believe this?
28:21So ironic, both his and Stojkovic.
28:23A hair's breadth away from being absolute stone blind perfect.
28:26Well, that's why we have the posts in football.
28:28They hit the crossbar.
28:30Well, Yugoslavia, Stojkovic hit the crossbar.
28:34And now, Bilardo can't believe it.
28:38For Maradona to miss and then for Trollio to miss too.
28:41And Hadzibejic.
28:45Who has always taken penalties for his country.
28:47We've got to hold up again now because the referee is coming back to the centre-centre.
28:51Seems all the drama is encapsulated around penalty shoot-outs these days.
28:55And in fact, Brnovic is coming forward.
29:01And he's gone out of turn as Hadzibejic.
29:03I think that's it.
29:04They have to nominate who's going and in what order.
29:07Hadzibejic was so nervous.
29:08I think he got it wrong.
29:09It's Brnovic's turn.
29:11This to make it 3-2.
29:15And it's 3-2.
29:17This to make it 3-2.
29:22Oh, dearie me.
29:24That was the most nervous penalty I think I've ever seen.
29:28And it is still 2-2.
29:30And Argentina are alive again.
29:33The world champions breathe.
29:36Well, it's the lowest standard of penalty taking that I've seen for a long time.
29:40It's not great.
29:42It's the first time the keeper hasn't really given himself up as well.
29:48I must confess at this stage,
29:49I like to see people put the ball down and really give it a crack.
29:52So they've both scored from two.
29:55They've both missed two.
30:00And I'm sure that in Rome,
30:02all the Italian and Irish players are watching this one
30:08with great interest.
30:09Who knows?
30:10They much could go to a penalty shoot-out as well.
30:13The man entrusted with the last of the five penalties for Argentina is Dezotti.
30:18Can he score?
30:20Yes, he can.
30:22And Argentina go 3-2 in front.
30:26And the responsibility falls on Farouk Hadzibejic
30:31to take it into sudden death.
30:36Well enough struck that time.
30:38He seemed to aim for the bottom corner and he made it.
30:44The responsibility is on Farouk Hadzibejic.
30:48One of the most experienced men.
30:50He's been playing for Yugoslavia since 1982.
30:54And it's simple enough now.
30:56If he scores, we go to sudden death.
30:58If he misses, Argentina will go through.
31:01Hadzibejic.
31:03And he's saved it.
31:05And Goy Kuchia takes Argentina into the semi-finals.
31:11What an extraordinary turn of events.
31:16And Argentina's luck holds good.
31:19And the young goalkeeper, Sergio Goy Kuchia,
31:22who came here as the reserve to Neri Pompidou,
31:26is the saviour of his country.
31:29And the team that were beaten by Cameroon in the first game
31:33are going through.
31:35And the Yugoslavians cannot believe it.
31:40They've had wretched luck here.
31:42So there we have it.
31:44Argentina going through 3-2 on penalties.
31:47As I say, they lost to Cameroon.
31:49They struggled in their other matches in the qualifying group.
31:52They were unimpressive against Brazil.
31:54They've been unimpressive again here against Yugoslavia.
31:57And yet, Carlos Bilardo and his team are in the semi-finals.
32:01Argentina have beaten Yugoslavia 3-2 on penalties
32:05thanks to this young man, Sergio Goy Kuchia.
32:09The world champions...
