00:00The aim is to involve a larger number of researchers, especially in southern Italy, where there are excellent university and scientific institutes, and to have a greater compatibility with other scholarships that the candidates could obtain, and the Young Talents Italia prize at UNESCO for women in research, which in Italy from 2002 to 2023 has awarded a total of 112 scholarships.
00:29Since the last edition, in agreement with the jury, the six scholarships awarded every year of the value of 20,000 euros each have become real awards.
00:39The presentation at the University of Messina is part of a roadshow to collect the award, which will be held at the 23rd edition, and which will see the opening of the new band on November 12.
00:52I am grateful to L'Oreal for wanting to transform in itinerant the presentation of this extraordinary tool that brings women closer to science, which is the L'Oreal prize, which worldwide, since 1998, promotes female research.
01:12The goal for 2025 is to exceed 260 candidates last year, involving more and more scientists from the athens of southern Italy. Last year, in fact, less than 20% of the candidates came from the University of the South.
01:25A fact that opened a reflection in the jury and that pushed L'Oreal Italia to go on the territory to be able to tell the value of an award that aims to support young researchers on a complex path.
01:37This award is important because it intervenes in a moment of the careers of young people, which is the critical moment, the famous hole tube, for which a certain important quota of researchers is lost, who decide to abandon, due to various difficulties, the scientific career.
01:59We are here in Messina because we would like to increase the number of candidates from southern Italy, because we are convinced that in the athens of the south there are talents of young researchers to discover.
02:13The program also wants to be a concrete support for young researchers who, thanks to the award, will be able to carry on their research activities and their own study project in Italy.
02:23The L'Oreal award certainly gives a great opportunity to give visibility to the work of many scientists and also to their excellence, to the excellence of this territory, which exists on this territory.
02:35On a personal level, being a role model for all these young researchers means a lot.
