Following clues to the origin of mankind, a team finds a structure on a distant moon, but they soon realize they are not alone.
Transcript
00:00The movie begins with a lone humanoid alien who is seen undergoing a ritual at the top
00:06of a waterfall.
00:07The humanoid alien takes out a cup of dark liquid and drinks from it, causing his body
00:13to decompose into particles of DNA after falling to the water.
00:18Tens of thousands of years later, in 2089, two archaeologists from Earth named Dr. Elizabeth
00:25Shaw and Dr. Charlie Holloway step into a cave in Scotland.
00:30The couple discovers an ancient marking which they call a star map, bringing them in awe
00:35and fascination.
00:37The two think of this as an encouragement and an invitation from humanity's pioneers
00:42and creators, known as the Engineers, to come and find them.
00:47Inside a highly advanced space vessel called the Prometheus, a crew ventures to locate
00:52the Engineers through the star maps discovered by Shaw and Holloway.
00:56This expedition is funded by Peter Whelan of the Whelan Industries.
01:01His daughter, Meredith Vickers, leads their voyage while the reliable android named David
01:06has monitored the ship's crew throughout their journey on their way to their destination,
01:12LV-223.
01:13The entire crew of Prometheus has traveled to space through a stasis, a process in which
01:19their whole body's normal flow is stopped with cryogenics.
01:23After a two-year sleep, Vickers, Shaw, Holloway, and the rest of the crew all wake up when
01:29they arrive at their destination in December 2093.
01:33The crew consists of experts from various fields of science and technology.
01:38David assists them during their awakening, and the crew all meet and gather for the first
01:43time in two years.
01:45Vickers notices Janik, the captain and main pilot of the Prometheus, as he enthusiastically
01:51sets up a Christmas tree to commemorate the holidays.
01:54During their mission briefing, Whelan delivers a message to orient the crew.
01:59Besides, he introduces David, his recreation, as his son who will never grow old and die.
02:06Dr. Shaw and Dr. Holloway also explain their discoveries.
02:10They show images of their archaeological digs from all over the Earth, in which men
02:15look up to the sky, worshipping giant beings from above.
02:19Using their accumulated star maps, the couple introduces their search for the Engineer's
02:24living place.
02:25This study has brought them to explore the LV-223.
02:29Some of their shipmates question their theory, given the accumulated knowledge throughout
02:33history regarding the beginning of humanity.
02:36Nonetheless, Shaw expresses her firm belief in their research.
02:40During the evening, David summons Shaw and Holloway through the orders of Vickers.
02:45They come to her office, where she tells both of them about her doubts regarding the existence
02:50of the Engineers.
02:52Despite that, she makes it clear to them that they cannot make any contact with the Engineers
02:57without her approval.
02:58The captain of Prometheus, Janik, also allows the ship's landing as the crewmates brace
03:04themselves.
03:05On board, the ship's medic briefly studies the composition of LV-223.
03:10She learns that the oxygen levels are insufficient on that planet and realizes that they're
03:15dead within two minutes without a suit.
03:18Then, they reach a desolate and mountainous area.
03:21The survey team suits up in preparation for their exploration.
03:25Holloway asks David why he is wearing a suit when he is an android that does not breathe.
03:31David casually explains that it is because he wants to look more like a real person and
03:35make others to be at ease around him.
03:38The survey team makes their way into the mountainous surface, where they discover structures that
03:43are in straight lines and perfect shapes.
03:45Holloway later finds that while the air outside the LV-223 is toxic, the air on the mountainous
03:51surface is breathable.
03:53They tell him not to remove his headgear, but he carries on and finds it able to breathe
03:57normally.
03:58The rest of the crew remove their headgear, suspecting that something is manufacturing
04:03breathable air in the area.
04:05In their exploration, they also utilize a mapping device to scope the entirety of the
04:10planet.
04:11The mapping device scans through the mountainous surface, and the place's overall structure
04:15is illustrated through a hologram in the ship's control room.
04:20As they explore deeper in the mountainous surface, they come across a decapitated corpse
04:24of what seems to be an alien.
04:27One of the crew members, named Fifield, slowly withdraws out of fright at all the discovery
04:32while David tries to read the texts on the walls.
04:35He walks away with their shipmate, Milburn, and they decide to go back to Prometheus.
04:40Holloway, Ford, and David continue inside a room and are welcomed by the sight of a
04:45huge statue of a humanoid head.
04:48The room also contains a number of cylinder-shaped stones, as well as a few corpses from unidentified
04:54creatures.
04:56David catches sight of a dark liquid coming out of the stone, and he is tempted to touch
05:00it.
05:01Just then, Shaw reminds everyone to be careful not to touch anything inside the room.
05:06Even so, David ends up curiously touching the dark liquid that leaks out of the cylinder-shaped
05:12stone.
05:13Suddenly, Shaw senses the air structure slowly changing inside the room, along with the murals
05:19on the mountain's ceiling.
05:21Therefore, she quickly collects the alien skull with Ford and puts it in a bag to bring
05:26along with them.
05:27Meanwhile, Janik and his team of pilots detect an incoming storm and urge the survey team
05:33to come back to the ship.
05:35David secretly recovers one of the cylinder-shaped stones and stores it in his bag before leaving
05:41with the crew.
05:42The crew rushes to get back to Prometheus as they race against the storm behind them.
05:48Shaw gets caught in a storm while trying to salvage the humanoid head that fell, but Holloway
05:53and David come to her rescue.
05:55While the survey team manages to return, Milburn and Fifield get lost inside the mountainous
06:00surface while on their way back to the ship.
06:03Janik detects a new life force inside the mountainous surface, informing Milburn and
06:08Fifield.
06:09The two check the location of the life force through Janik's instructions, but find nothing.
06:14Unable to do anything at the moment, Janik instructs them to stay suited inside the mountainous
06:18surface while they wait for the storm to pass.
06:21Back in Prometheus, Shaw and Ford study the alien head and uncover that it is a helmet
06:27and not a skull.
06:28With the help of David, they lift the helmet up and find an actual head inside.
06:33Shaw becomes thrilled upon seeing the head, believing that it belongs to an engineer.
06:39Ford makes an incision to trigger its nervous system as the head slowly comes alive.
06:44It leaks out the black liquid, which is the same as before in the cylinder-looking stone,
06:48and produces an unusual odor, causing them to immediately contain the head.
06:53Shaw insists on continuing their study, so she orders Ford to collect more samples from
06:59the head.
07:00Later, David communicates briefly with Weyland using high-tech headgear.
07:04Vickers notices it and interrupts David, asking him about their conversation.
07:09David refuses to tell, and as a consequence, Vickers drags him in a corner and strangles him.
07:15David does not feel threatened, but ends up telling her Weyland's command to him is
07:19to work hard.
07:20In fact, Weyland orders him to test the effect of the dark liquid on Holloway.
07:25Later, David finds Holloway in a room.
07:28He asks Holloway how far he would go to gain his answers, and Holloway replies that he
07:33is willing to do anything and everything.
07:36Convinced of his answer, David then takes a portion of the dark liquid he retrieved
07:41and secretly puts it in Holloway's drink.
07:43Without even realizing it, Holloway unconsciously drinks it.
07:47Then, he comes to Shaw's cabin.
07:50Shaw shows him the matching DNA composition between the engineers and humans, confirming
07:55that they indeed came from the engineers.
07:57This means that the engineers are the creators of human beings.
08:01Holloway says that there is nothing special about the creation of life because anybody
08:05can do it.
08:06Shaw frowns at the thought, reminding him that she is infertile.
08:10He consoles her in an instant, and the two reconcile as they have an emotional moment.
08:15At the same time, Vickers arrives in the control room and finds Janik.
08:20Due to her indifferent and dismissive nature, Janik asks Vickers if she is a robot.
08:25In reply, Vickers tells him to come to her room, leaving the control room empty.
08:30Inside the mountainous structure, Milburn and Fifield discover the room containing the
08:34cylinder-shaped stones.
08:36The dark fluid has begun to leak rapidly out of each stone while the two explore them.
08:41Suddenly, a long snake-looking creature slowly approaches Milburn and Fifield.
08:46They contact the control room but get no response from anyone, including Janik.
08:51The creature tightens its grasp on Milburn and breaks his arm.
08:55Fifield tries to cut the creature off Milburn, but it splashes venomous fluid that quickly
09:00damages Fifield's helmet.
09:02The creature penetrates through Milburn's protective suit and kills him, while Fifield
09:06dies in the dark liquid.
09:08The storm passes the following day, therefore Prometheus comes back to the mountainous structure.
09:13Holloway wakes up, feeling an odd sensation, and finds his eyes slowly reddening.
09:18At the same time, Shaw wakes up to a call from Janik about losing track of Milburn and
09:23Fifield.
09:24The survey team drives with Janik back to the mountainous surface to fetch them.
09:29David, on the other hand, is instructed by Janik on a separate mission to track the life
09:33force he had detected in the control room earlier.
09:36From the Prometheus, Vickers tells David to uplink his feed to her room, permitting her
09:41to see the inside of the place remotely.
09:44David comes across the crew's mapping device and learns that it is stuck on a door.
09:49He lifts the door, allowing the mapping device to enter a room, which is revealed to be the
09:53innermost center of the mountainous surface.
09:56At this time, David disconnects his feed and cuts Vickers' remote access, angering her.
10:02David studies the room with interest, able to see a hologram of the Engineers as he watches
10:07them in action.
10:09He learns through the hologram that the mountainous surface is actually the Engineer's ship.
10:14Just when he finds out that the ship has set its destination on Earth, the hologram shuts
10:19off.
10:20His gaze heads towards a huge chamber, which carries a living Engineer under stasis.
10:25On the other side, Jannik and the survey team continue their search for their two shipmates.
10:30They return to the room with the cylinder stones and notice the large amount of black
10:35liquid leaking from it.
10:37The crew is startled upon seeing Milburn's corpse, while Ford steps in to check his body.
10:42At this moment, Holloway suddenly falls.
10:45His eyes continue to worsen and an infection is suspected.
10:49Shadow calls the attention of Jannik to get him treated.
10:52Just then, the snake-looking creature inside Milburn resurfaces and kills one of the crew
10:57members before escaping.
10:59Shaw halts their search for Fifield and Milburn, communicating with Vickers to send in a medical
11:04team for them.
11:06The black liquid uncontrollably seeps into Holloway's body and he struggles in his suit.
11:11The survey team stops short just outside the ship's back door.
11:16Jannik commands the door to be opened, but Vickers refuses to follow him.
11:20On the contrary, she wears her protective suit and brings out a flamethrower.
11:25She informs the survey team that Holloway is no longer allowed to board the Prometheus
11:29due to his threatening condition.
11:31Jannik argues with her, saying that Holloway is a sick shipmate who needs to be treated
11:36immediately.
11:37However, Vickers is firm with her decision, as she orders the rest of the crew except
11:42Holloway to go back on the ship.
11:43Shaw continuously pleads with Vickers to reconsider, but ends up in vain.
11:48Holloway distances himself from the crew, implying that he is fine with Vickers' decision.
11:53He consoles Shaw and bids goodbye to her before letting Vickers burn him to death.
11:59Shaw cries in agony at the sight and faints, then wakes up on a table where David conducts
12:04a quarantine failsafe to her.
12:06After a quick checkup, David reveals to her that she is three months pregnant.
12:11Hearing the result, Dr. Shaw startles in shock.
12:14She tells David that she is infertile and that it would be impossible.
12:18He admits to her that the fetus is of a different kind, making her plead to him in panic.
12:23He offers her to be put under stasis again until they return to Earth, but Shaw insists
12:29on taking the creature out of her body immediately.
12:32David tells her that there are no personnel in the ship capable of performing surgery
12:36on her.
12:37Right then, Shaw shouts because of the aching pain in her stomach.
12:42As a result, David tranquilizes her and puts her back on the table.
12:46Ford arrives after a while to put her back in stasis.
12:50With the tranquilizer wearing off, Shaw begins to make a resistance.
12:54She runs to the ship's medical pod and prepares to perform a surgery on herself.
12:59She quickly settles in the pod as the creature begins to move inside her belly.
13:04The medical pod proceeds with the automated surgery, initiating anesthetics.
13:09It cuts her belly open, revealing a squid-like creature lingering inside her.
13:14As the surgery continues, the creature is successfully extracted from her before it
13:18stitches her abdomen closed.
13:20Shaw gets out of the room in an instant and locks the creature inside of the medical pod.
13:26Meanwhile, Janik communicates with the other crew members after locating Fifield's monitor
13:31just outside the Prometheus.
13:33They open the ship's back door and find a mutated Fifield who has been consumed by the
13:38dark liquid.
13:40Fifield monstrously attacks the crew members on the back door and mercilessly kills them.
13:45Janik uses a flamethrower to kill him while the other crew members crush him with a military
13:50vehicle.
13:51During this time, Shaw stumbles upon an unfamiliar room where she sees Weyland and his team.
13:57She later learns that Weyland has undergone stasis and has boarded the Prometheus with
14:02them.
14:03In addition, she finds out about David's encounter with the last living engineer.
14:08She finally discloses that he trusts in her research, which is why he approved of funding
14:12the whole expedition.
14:13He also believes that through the help of the engineers, he can find a way to live forever.
14:18It is Weyland's ultimate goal to gain eternal life.
14:22Weyland prepares to meet with the engineer, leaving Shaw dazed and confused.
14:26She goes back to her cabin to compose herself as Janik comes to visit her.
14:31Janik asks her about her plans, asserting that their supposed destination, the LV-223,
14:36was not the home of the engineers, but was rather a military facility.
14:41He tries to persuade her into going back to Earth despite the questions left unanswered.
14:46In response, she tells him that a living engineer has been discovered, indicating that they
14:51are close to getting their answers.
14:53Later, Vickers finally meets with her father, Weyland, while in the middle of wearing his
14:57protective suit.
14:59Vickers explains to him the danger of going to the mountainous surface.
15:02While Weyland argues with her, Vickers tries to make him realize that death is inevitable
15:07for everyone, including him.
15:09Weyland chooses to meet the engineer despite his daughter's warning.
15:13He departs the ship together with David, Ford, and Shaw.
15:17Inside the mountainous surface core, they uncover a large amount of the cylinder-shaped
15:21stones surrounding them.
15:23From the Prometheus, Janik studies the structure of the mountainous surface, where he concludes
15:28that it is, in fact, a gigantic ship.
15:31The mechanics of the entire ship have impressed David, and he leads them to their destination.
15:36David wakes the last living engineer from stasis, and they all stare while he gets up
15:41from his chamber.
15:42The crew falls into a frenzy while they bombard him with questions.
15:46David speaks by using the engineer's language and addresses the concerns of Weyland, asking
15:51if the engineer knows any way to live immortally.
15:55But all of a sudden, the engineer beheads David, and his head is separated from his
15:59body.
16:00They all watch in surprise at the engineer's attack and rush to stop him.
16:04The engineer grabs Ford and tosses her away, and then she's dead.
16:09He kills Weyland and the rest of the crew except Dr. Shaw, who has barely succeeded
16:14in running away.
16:15Weyland lays lifeless beside the still-functional David, and David bids farewell to Weyland,
16:21who he considers his father and creator.
16:23Vickers watches everything from their ship, and ultimately decides to abort the mission.
16:29Yannick follows her and prepares Prometheus on his flight back to Earth.
16:33Later, the engineer revives the huge spacecraft and resumes the original mission of going
16:38to Earth while David's still-functional head watches him.
16:42The impact of the spacecraft's reactivation throws Shaw outside, where she flees toward
16:46the Prometheus.
16:48She relays the crew the engineer's plans for releasing the dangerous dark liquid on
16:52Earth.
16:53After all that Shaw has been through, she believes that the engineers hate human beings,
16:58and that they plan to travel to Earth to kill all human beings using the dark liquid.
17:03As a result, she pleads to Yannick to stop the engineer from going to their planet.
17:08Yannick becomes torn as Vickers orders him to dismiss Shaw and leave the place immediately.
17:14Eventually, Yannick decides to listen to Shaw and willingly chooses to sacrifice his life
17:19for the sake of Earth.
17:21He ends the discussion with Vickers, setting up the escape pod for her and the rest of
17:26the crew.
17:27Yannick's co-pilots decide to join him while Vickers runs her way to the escape pod.
17:32Yannick and the pilots generate a powerful force enough to turn Prometheus into a bullet.
17:37The ship ejects its lifeboats while Vickers boards the escape pod and successfully makes
17:42it out of the Prometheus.
17:44At this time, the Prometheus crashes onto the engineer's spacecraft, creating a huge
17:49explosion and causing it to crash on the ground.
17:52Shaw and Vickers witness the collision before they hurriedly run away from the massive impact
17:57with big lumps of heavy metal falling all over the place.
18:00Shaw is able to roll away in time, but Vickers gets crushed by the spacecraft and she's
18:06killed.
18:07Shaw becomes the sole human survivor from the entire crew of Prometheus.
18:11However, she soon breathes with difficulties as a result of her damaged spacesuit.
18:16She rushes to a nearby lifeboat where she is able to stabilize her breathing.
18:21Inside, she finds the room containing her squid-looking offspring that has rapidly increased
18:26in size.
18:27David's operative head is able to reach Dr. Shaw and he relays a warning about the
18:33engineer.
18:34He tells her that the engineer is coming for her and that she needs to get out of the lifeboat.
18:38Just then, the engineer arrives, aggressively opening the door to the lifeboat.
18:43The engineer attacks her and, in defense, she frees her squid-looking offspring.
18:48The squid-looking offspring strangles the engineer's throat and holds it in control
18:53as Shaw runs out of the lifeboat with a working spacesuit.
18:56She lies on the ground while staring in the sky, bursting with agony at the mission's
19:01downfall.
19:02After a while, David calls out to her, asking for her help in retrieving his remains.
19:07Shaw is unwilling but comes for him after he offers a way out of the LV-223.
19:13She returns to the alien spacecraft for David and, while he discusses a possible pathway
19:18back to Earth, she interrupts him.
19:20Rather than going back, she aims to reach the home place of the engineers to finish
19:24their mission and ultimately seek for answers.
19:28The two team up and, together, they depart the LV-223 in a new ship controlled by David.
19:33The movie ends with Shaw making a final report of the ship, Prometheus, during New Year's
19:38Day.
19:39She reports that she is the last survivor of Prometheus and is still in search of the
19:44engineers.
19:45She also states that the ship and the entire crew are gone, warning the listeners not to
19:49make any attempts on coming to the LV-223.
19:53Back in the lifeboat, an alien creature mutates out of the engineer, signifying a possibility
19:58of another encounter between the aliens and the humans.
