Collin Morikawa talks through the clubs and other gear in his golf bag for the 2024 season
Transcript
00:00Yeah, so I've got the new TaylorMade QI10 Max.
00:03There's three different models.
00:04This is actually the bigger head, let's call it the more amateur version that a lot of
00:08people use.
00:09I've got a Diamanta shaft.
00:10I've used a Diamanta pretty much my entire life, but this is actually a newer model that
00:14I haven't used in the past.
00:15And then I've got these Z-Cord Golf Pride grips throughout the entire bag, all the way
00:20throughout my wedges.
00:21It's actually a 50 gram shaft.
00:23It actually weighs out to 63 grams, so I'm going to pad myself and not make it sound
00:28like I can't swing a heavier golf shaft.
00:31It's a TX flex, tour flex, tour stiff, tour extra stiff, nine degree head, but what's
00:37actually unique, I have it all the way on the lower setting, so it's almost at about
00:41seven and a half degrees, so pretty low loft for what I've used in the past.
00:47This head launches a little higher with a lot more spin, so I've had to take that down
00:51just by putting it on a lower setting.
00:54Yeah, so I've got a three wood and a five wood.
00:56I'm still using the Sim three wood.
01:01It's actually a really low loft as well.
01:03It's at about a 13 and a half, 14 degree three wood.
01:07I've got another Diamanta shaft in it.
01:09It's been my go-to trusty club.
01:11It sets up great.
01:12I can hit every shot.
01:13I can hit a 300 yard flat three wood off the tee and hit a 240 yard cut three wood if I
01:20have to.
01:21Yeah, I'm going to put that away, and I've got my five wood.
01:23I've got the new QI10 five wood.
01:26One of the easiest clubs for me to actually put in woods-wise.
01:30Five woods have always been really easy to hit.
01:32It actually has the same exact shaft and weight as my three wood, just a little bit shorter.
01:37Spin is so important, so I talk about hitting a very flat three wood and a very spinny three
01:41wood.
01:42I just haven't been able to find that exactly how I want.
01:45I know what this one does, so we're in the works right now to hopefully create a head
01:48that gets me to where I want.
01:51Yeah, so I've got three different types of irons in my bag.
01:54I feel like I've got the TaylorMade P770 in the four iron, a little more forgiveness,
01:58a little thicker head, launches it a lot faster, a lot hotter, takes the spin off, but also
02:03launches it high.
02:04So going into a par five green or a long par four, I'm able to hit that type of shot with
02:10this four iron.
02:11So the reason why I don't have that in the five and six is because I feel like I can't
02:15shape the ball as much.
02:17So with this four iron, I like to hit a lot straighter of a shot.
02:20For the five and six irons, I've got P7 MCs with dynamic gold shafts, X100s, a little
02:26mid-flight, so a little different shaft to get the ball launching a little bit higher.
02:30I'm kind of a mid-range player.
02:31I don't really hit it too high.
02:32I don't hit it too low.
02:33It's nice to hit your long irons high.
02:36What's unique about my iron setup is that my grips are really unique in how many masking
02:43tapes and double-sided tapes I put on my right hand.
02:45I like to make it a certain way to kind of build up my right hand, not make it as tapered
02:50down the right side.
02:51So the irons, pitching wedge through seven iron, I've got the P7 30s.
02:56These I've used for quite some time.
02:57I've gone between these and they actually made me a P7 MBs, my own custom ones last
03:03year that I've kind of gone back and forth.
03:08Pretty much dynamic gold X100, same Z-cord grips.
03:12All my irons are a quarter inch short.
03:14I don't know why.
03:15I've done it my entire life.
03:16Why change now?
03:17I've got three wedges aside from my pitching wedge.
03:20I've got a 60, a 55 degree, which is a 56 bent down, and then I've got a 50 degree bent
03:27up to a 51.
03:30Swing weight on my 60 degree is a little lighter than normal.
03:33I just like the speed I can deliver through chip shots without feeling like it's going
03:37to be too heavy for the ball to go too far.
03:40Same thing.
03:41Quarter inch short, S400 iron shafts in my wedges, but nothing else, nothing crazy on
03:48the grind.
03:49I use the Tiger Woods grind on my 60 degree, and then some pretty basic wedge grinds on
03:55the 56 and 50.
03:57These are the TaylorMade MG4s, so the newest model out here, raw finishes, great grip on
04:04the face.
04:05They're fantastic.
04:12Yeah, I'm currently using the TaylorMade TP5X.
04:15Yeah, I've been with Adidas since I turned professional in 2019, so we're almost hitting
04:20five years now.
04:22They've been an amazing partner to just kind of work with, collaborate, and it's not just
04:27a one-way street where they're handing me my stuff, and I think that's what you see
04:30in this product of the new Tour 360 coming out this year.
04:34It's a shoe that not only looks great, but performs great.
04:37It feels like a classic shoe.
04:38It looks like a classic shoe, but it also has the new technology and the new adaptations
04:43that we can ask for in any new shoe out there, so it's got the stability that I asked for.
04:49Not that I'm a fast swing speed type of guy, but the rotation I put in my golf swing, I
04:54want stability in the ground.
04:55I feel that with the ground, even as I stand right now, and that's all I could ask for
04:59out of a shoe.
05:00I've always got gum on me, so you go in this pocket right here, it's kind of my valuable
05:04pocket where I keep my wedding ring when I play and my watch, but I've always got gum
05:09and a lot of gum wrappers, but I'm not going to take that out.
05:13Nothing crazy though.
05:14I mean, that's it.
05:15I mean, I've got my, you know, I wear contacts, so I've always got extra contacts just in
05:20case I need them, but other than that, you know, it's just a bag that has the normal
05:25golf stuff.
05:26I'm only a one-bar type of guy in the entire 18 holes, especially during tournament rounds.
05:31I'm really bad at eating.
05:32I don't feel like I need to eat that much when I'm out there, so I have one kind of
05:36macro bar or one little peanut butter and jelly sandwich and call it a day.
