00:00How come our live stream audience did not see you the past two Sundays? Where were you?
00:07Uh...
00:09Where did you go?
00:10On a cruise.
00:11On a cruise. Okay. What countries did you visit?
00:16Uh, Italy, Greece, Crete, Turkey, Vatican City.
00:23Whoa! So five countries. Beautiful. So we have cruisers also here today.
00:30Now today is what is called, say this with me, World Communion Sunday.
00:35World Communion Sunday.
00:37That means that churches who are participating all over the world are having Holy Communion today.
00:43Now what is the reason and why we do communion?
00:46Now, you know what? Jesus never... Let me say something that may be revealing.
00:54Did you know that Jesus never commanded us to celebrate his birthday?
00:58You will never hear that from scripture, from the word of God.
01:01Hey, celebrate my birthday, it's December 25.
01:04To begin with, we don't know if that was the real birthday of our Lord.
01:08It may be different.
01:09However, Jesus asked us to celebrate his death and his resurrection.
01:16Did you know that?
01:17So the reason we do communion is we are celebrating the death and resurrection of our Savior.
01:24Now, we celebrate and we remember his death and resurrection.
01:28We remember him not through any other object or items but the bread and the fruit of the vine.
01:35Let me show you something in here.
01:37This is a photograph.
01:39Do you know who is in the photograph?
01:41Okay.
01:42Kenzie may not know, but this is the photograph of Auntie Grace's mom.
01:48This is the late Rhoda Candelario and she was a teenager.
01:52Right? Look at that.
01:53She's so pretty, right?
01:55Kenzie, actually Tita Linda says that you resemble Mama Rhoda.
01:59I agree.
02:01You kind of look like Mama Rhoda.
02:03So I remember Mama Rhoda when I look at photographs or pictures like this.
02:08But did you know that Jesus never left us a photograph of himself to remember him by?
02:15And you know why?
02:16It is because there were no cameras in at that time.
02:19There were no cell phones yet where you could click and you could see the photograph moments later.
02:24But Christ gave us two elements, the bread and the fruit of the vine.
02:29Others used wine.
02:31We used grape juice for obvious reasons.
02:33And the reason is we celebrate and we remember our Lord not through a photograph, but through elements.
02:42Once again, as we remember Jesus Christ, what elements do we use in order to remember him?
02:50The bread?
02:52The bread and the grape juice or the wine.
02:55Or we call it the fruit of the vine.
02:58So today as we receive the elements of the Holy Communion, we are remembering what Jesus did for us.
03:06Now, let me give you three small words.
03:09I give you the Communion.
03:10We use the elements of bread and grape juice or fruit of the vine.
03:15Let me give you three words.
03:16The reason we do Communion is, say the first word, commemorate.
03:21That means we remember what Jesus did for us.
03:24Second is this, celebrate.
03:26We celebrate the fact that we are saved.
03:28And third, say this with me, consecrate.
03:31That means we offer our lives to the Lord and renew our love for him each time we do Communion.
03:37So that's why we do Communion.
03:39Now, all of you included, all of us, hold your hands, bow your heads, close your eyes, pray with me and say,
03:46Loving God, thank you for sending Christ Jesus to die for our sins.
03:55Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice on the cross.
04:03We remember your death and resurrection through the elements of the Holy Communion.
04:13Help us to enjoy these elements and commit our lives to you.
04:20In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
