Cincinnati Bengals Lose to Baltimore Ravens in Overtime: Instant Reaction
Transcript
00:00Overtime heartbreak. Hi again everyone and welcome in to Cincinnati Bengals Talk.
00:05I'm James Erpine alongside Elyse Jesse here at Paycourt Stadium where the
00:09Bengals lose to the Ravens 41 to 38 in overtime falling to 1 and 4 on the year
00:15and there's so many things to discuss here. I mean Joe Brothers for a career
00:20high five touchdowns. I felt like we would have a happy postgame report Elyse
00:25for the first time this year where both of us are together. I mean they haven't
00:28won they're 0-3 now at home so we don't get that so maybe that's the
00:32issue. I don't know where to start but we'll start with this the Bengals are
00:371-4 no one expected them to be 1-4 and 1-4 is the worst start of
00:43Joe Burrow's life in any season in any sport ever. And you think about it could
00:48have been I expected us to be talking about the career day from Joe Burrow
00:52with five touchdowns almost 400 passing yards and instead we are talking about
00:57the fact that this team has dug themselves even further into a hole and
01:01when you really think about their four losses I was looking at their four
01:04losses after the game those four losses are by a total of 15 points. They are
01:10having so much trouble closing out these games and it's burning them and you can
01:15tell that they're all sick over it. Chase Brown said he's absolutely sick and most
01:19of these guys are just besides themselves even Andre Yoshivas said that
01:22he had to sit down for the first time and try to like compartmentalize what
01:26was going through his brain after this loss. Yeah it's they should have won
01:30that's that's that's what this comes down to they should have won they
01:34shouldn't have had the the the errors that they had when they're up 38-28 and
01:40they're up 38-28 in the fourth quarter the offense has scored four straight
01:44touchdowns they're rolling and then you have the interception we can get to that
01:49in a second and what Jamar Chase said by the way Jamar Chase reacted right here
01:53on CBT so check that out but Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow the interception
01:58the Ravens go tie it the Bengals have a shot then they give up a sack so now
02:02they they're behind the chains T Higgins can't hold on to a pass third and 17
02:06well now you got to run it force overtime going to overtime and then the
02:10Ravens they do what you needed them to do they give you the ball back you have
02:15the shot and this is the the story that a lot of people are gonna have we haven't
02:20talked about this so I'm curious they ran the ball three straight times there
02:23everyone's talking about it your thoughts it's so funny because the
02:27second you took the mic I was like I really want to know what James thinks
02:29about the fact that they ran three times in overtime instead of putting the ball
02:34in Joe Burrow's hands he was on fire career day five touchdowns three and 71
02:38yards and you're gonna take the ball out of his hands I mean no offense to the
02:43running backs at all the running back core that they have but dang you know
02:47Joe Burrow I feel like Joe Burrow could have put them in a better position to
02:50have a touchdown versus a field goal and it sounded like the entire time they
02:54were focused on getting a field goal instead of scoring a touchdown which I'm
02:58not a fan of yeah I it's a double-edged sword I just said third and 17 how did
03:03they get into that third and 17 their previous drive it was because they got
03:06sacked on first down but to your point you say all right Joe game on the line
03:10we're in field goal range get rid of it quick and yeah I want Joe throwing a
03:16pass in that situation shocker those that watch this channel know I want
03:20Jamar chase T Higgins to be featured and to get the ball early often and yeah
03:25there was one play Joe checked out of it because it just it was a bad passing play
03:30against that look so they ran it he can do that on any play clock wasn't a
03:36factor there though so it's not like all right we need to sit on the ball for
03:39three plays and so there's a lot that goes into it but to your point and I
03:45like let's just say Joe Burrow throws it and ends up getting sacked on second
03:51down well I wouldn't have been like oh well they shouldn't have thrown it there
03:54very rarely are we going to be like oh well take the ball out of Joe Burrow's
03:59hands that's a bad decision you know even after the interception even after
04:02the sack on the previous drive so yeah throwing the ball there at least once I
04:06think would have made a lot of sense and the reason we wouldn't have spoken about
04:09it or it wouldn't have been a big deal is because the reason why you pay Joe
04:12Burrow so much money and he's the face of your franchise is because you trust
04:16him with the ball in those moments to make big key decision-making drives and
04:21plays in the biggest moments I mean their season their game is on the line
04:26and you're gonna run I don't know it's it you don't want to put the players in
04:29a position where they're forced to sound like they're questioning the coaching
04:33staff but reporters certainly are and I know fans probably are too yeah fans
04:37fans definitely are and in a game on the flip side where he is that good Lamar
04:45Jackson is that good is that dude is the reigning MVP and you can't stop him it's
04:50like all right you get another shot because I got to be honest when they
04:55went to overtime I wrote the story oh well Ravens win 44 38 and overtime
05:00Lamar Jackson throws I have three X's yard touchdown pass to blank because
05:06that's what I thought was going to happen I thought they were gonna march
05:08down similar to what they did right after the missed field goal and let's
05:11talk about that now because it's a missed field goal but it's something
05:15that in if you watch this channel I talked about it throughout the Brad
05:19Robbins Ryan Rico competition holding is 50% of the job holding is the key to one
05:26of the elite weapons on this team which is Evan money Mac McPherson and Ryan
05:30Rico up to this point hasn't had any issues holding in in the biggest moment
05:35of his young career bobbles the snap and that's what cost them the game
05:41because I have no doubt that Evan McPherson would have made that field
05:44goal had the the hold been clean and it be put down the way it should have been
05:47it was the biggest moment of the entire team season getting imagine getting a
05:53win kicking that field goal watching Evan McPherson kick that field goal the
05:55Bengals come away with their second win of the season second win in a row first
06:00win in front of their fans and first win in the AFC North and now they're
06:04starting to string wins together I mean the entire look on this team would be
06:09completely different from what is going to be tomorrow on Monday yeah that's
06:13what this is this could have been a season-defining win that's why you had
06:16Joe Burrow say he needed to play damn near perfect and he was damn near
06:20perfect by the way the the interception let's get to that now there's so many
06:23things that we have to get to here the interception
06:26Jamar chase said I ran a crappy but he used another word route and he said it a
06:34couple of times and who am I to blame him or say he's wrong we asked Joe
06:41Burrow about it you can watch these videos by the way right here on
06:43Cincinnati Bengals talk and Joe said basically like yeah I wouldn't have done
06:47anything different and then he was asked about Jamar in what Jamar said and he
06:51was like oh well Marlon made a great play so credited Marlon Humphrey Jamar
06:55said that to credited Marlon but if he runs a better route then maybe that
07:00doesn't happen those are the things it's been a theme throughout the year
07:04Ryan Rico today the the route by Jamar Dejohn Anthony on 4th and 16 like you
07:11have so many little little things can't stop Jaden Daniels who's the best
07:17quarterback in the world Washington fans can't get mad at that no not at all but I
07:23know that they're not trying to blame each other or put blame on anybody Joe
07:26Burrow certainly not it felt like Jamar Chase took accountability for that but
07:31that play was soul-crushing and it's because you know that this defense for
07:37this team has just been inconsistent and you don't know whether or not they you
07:42don't have full confidence that they're gonna be able to get a stop and so when
07:46you see three minutes to go and the Bengals have the ball and they have a
07:50chance to add another touchdown and really ice the game at that point like
07:55seal it closed you see an interception you see that the ball is taken out of
08:00Joe Burrow hand Joe Burrow's hands and he no longer has the control over this
08:03game and I think that put a lot of Bengals fans at unease because I saw a
08:07lot of people standing and I saw a lot of Bengals fans saw a lot of you biting
08:11your nails in the stands tonight and I understand why yeah and the thing is the
08:16defense did get stopped they hold the Ravens to a field goal then they force
08:19and really it was Lamar Jackson bobbling the snap but they take advantage of a
08:23Lamar bobbled snap and they recover it the defense did enough to to sneak out
08:29of here with a win even though there's a thousand things they need to clean up
08:32but we could talk about them this video would be a mile long eight years long
08:36literally forever so the Bengals are one in four no one expected them to be one
08:41in four it's gonna be an interesting week I continue to see people calling
08:47for Zach Taylor's job and the switch of the coaching staff and I am just here to
08:53say that that's probably not gonna happen you guys are like have all your
08:56hopes up so high and I don't see that happening James I don't see it happening
08:59everyone's like pissed that he ran the ball three times in overtime but things
09:05like that are gonna happen and the reality is fifth again I already said it
09:09but 15 points away from being 5-0 yeah it's been close they've been
09:14nail-biters as Elise said and yet they're one in four they have a chance
09:19to get to two and four next week we're gonna have you covered all week long but
09:23before that make sure you check out Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase, Zach Taylor, what
09:27Zach Taylor said about running the ball three straight times plus a bunch of
09:31other players reacted in the locker room to this loss check out all of that hit
09:35that subscribe button ring the bell and for Andrew Fox Miller and Elise Jesse
09:39I'm James Erpine thank you so much for watching as the Bengals fall 41 to 38
09:43to the Ravens in overtime here at PayCore Stadium
