Jewish and Muslim women unite on October 7 anniversary to discuss impact of conflict PA

00:00So today was a day, it's obviously October the 7th tomorrow, a year since the conflict began

00:07in the Middle East, and today was a day to come together and to be as one, if you like.

00:14It sounds simplistic but the world is so polarised, nobody can hear anybody else's

00:19views, nobody can hear another narrative, everybody's so hurt, so upset, and everybody's

00:26taken one side or the other. And that's not helpful, it's not even how it is, it's much

00:31more nuanced than that, but everybody's on their own side. So we came together today to say

00:37whatever's going on in the Middle East, here we don't have to hate, here we mustn't hate,

00:43we must come together, we must build a society here which is safe, where our children can grow up,

00:50where there's no hate because you're Muslim, hate because you're Jewish,

00:54and people live together in harmony, and this was our small gesture, our small way of doing that.

01:02Yeah, I mean, you know, we heard it all downstairs today, none of it surprised me,

01:07people talking about literally being exhausted, it's been a very heavy year,

01:12people carry a lot, we listen to lots of pain, fear, anxiety, and all of that was

01:18talked about today, the kind of responsibility of what do we do as women, as people in our own

01:24communities, and so I think people were very honest, it felt safe, it felt like people could

01:30share in an honest way which felt really important, and I'm so grateful to the women for being brave

01:36really, to be willing to do it, you know, some of them have faced backlash, me included,

01:40I've lost friends over this, you know, it's not easy, you know, but it just feels right,

01:45and for us to be able to find spaces to own it all, all of the pain.
