Worst Superhero Movie Costumes

Punisher
Long before the character received adaptations in the 21st Century, the vengeful Frank Castle received an adaptation in 1989, in the film The Punisher, by Mark Goldblatt. Here, he was played by Dolph Lundgren, and the film constantly tries to avoid the comics.
The look itself isn't ugly and isn't as bad as others mentioned on the list, but it deserves a place here because it has nothing to do with the Punisher from the comics, who has a costume that's extremely easy to adapt to the movies. In the film, the skull that appears on the vigilante's shirt is absent and this makes the film look even more like a generic action film from the 80s.

Batman, Robin and Batgirl
Nowadays, Joel Schumacher's Batman films have already achieved a cult and camp status, without being so criticized for exaggeration and extravagance, since the entire concept of colorful Gotham revolved around these excesses of the hero's classic comics.
Still, if there's something that can't be defended, it's the look of the Batfamily's "trinity" in Batman and Robin, from 1997. The costumes are extremely flashy and their color palette clashes a lot with the Dark Knight's imagery, bringing the blue and silver colors for all heroes.

Daredevil
The early 2000s brought more experimentation with films based on comic book stories, before the merciless dominance of the MCU and other franchises that took inspiration from the Marvel Studios empire. Unfortunately, not all works from this period brought good things...
Daredevil: The Man Without Fear, directed by Mark Steven Johnson, arrived at the height of leather suits in comic book adaptations. Even though it had some fidelity to the uniform used by Matt Murdock in the comics, preserving the horns and red eyes, the idea of putting him in a shiny leather outfit wasn't the best.

Green Lantern
Released in 2011, Green Lantern's solo film was conceived as the beginning of a new era for DC Comics in theaters, which sought to create a shared universe like Marvel Studios. However, the failure among critics and the public meant that this idea did not get off the ground.
Among several problems and defects, one of the most terrible things about the film is its visuals. The costume used by Ryan Reynolds tries to emulate a "fabric" made of pure energy, but to do so, poor CGI is used, which blends in with the rest of the scenery and does not bring the heroic grandeur that Hal Jordan so deserved.

Fantastic Four
In 2015, Fox was trying at all costs to retain the rights to the Fantastic Four before they returned to Marvel Studios. The result of this rush is a film that has one of the worst third acts in the history of comic book adaptations.
Josh Trank's film is set up from the beginning as an "origin story" for the team, who would only actually act as the Fantastic Four in a sequence that never happened. So we don't have superhero costumes, just ugly.

01:10Daredevil
01:11The man without fear, directed by Mark Steven Johnson,
01:14arrived at the height of leather suits in comic book adaptations.
01:17Even though it had some fidelity to the uniform used by Matt Murdock in the comics,
01:20preserving the horns and red eyes,
01:22the idea of putting him in a shiny leather outfit wasn't the best.
01:25Green Lantern
01:26Released in 2011, Green Lantern's solo film was conceived
01:29as the beginning of a new era for DC Comics and theaters,
01:32which sought to create a shared universe like Marvel Studios.
01:35However, the failure among critics and the public
01:37meant that this idea did not get off the ground.
01:39Among several problems and defects,
01:41one of the most terrible things about the film is its visuals.
01:44The costume used by Ryan Reynolds tries to emulate a fabric made of pure energy,
01:48but to do so, poor CGI is used,
01:50which blends in with the rest of the scenery
01:52and does not bring the heroic grandeur that Hal Jordan so deserved.
01:55The Fantastic Four
01:56In 2015, Fox was trying at all costs
01:58to retain the rights to The Fantastic Four
02:00before they returned to Marvel Studios.
02:02The result of this rush is a film that has one of the worst third acts
02:05in the history of comic book adaptations.
02:07Josh Trank's film is set up from the beginning
02:09as an origin story for the team,
02:11who would only actually act as the Fantastic Four
02:13in a sequence that never happened.
02:14So we don't have superhero costumes,
02:16just ugly, gray looks that try to embody
02:18the realistic aesthetic of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.
02:21Green Goblin
02:22Directed by Mark Webb,
02:23The Amazing Spider-Man 2,
02:25the electro-menace arrived without much success.
02:27With a plot full of villains who, supposedly,
02:29would get their own project,
02:30the film ended up confusing and wasting the charisma
02:33of the protagonists Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.
02:35In the midst of all this,
02:36we still had one of the worst adaptations
02:38of the Green Goblin of all time,
02:39with Dane DeHaan playing a pustulant and disfigured villain
02:42in a generic costume that bears no resemblance to the icon
02:44from the comics and Willem Dafoe's version.
02:46Scarlet Witch
02:47The Marvel Cinematic Universe
02:48also has its share of missteps and problems.
02:50To begin with,
02:51the look of the costumes,
02:52even though they try to refer to the comics,
02:54also end up going towards the tactical line,
02:56losing some of the more fantastical air of the comics.
02:58And in that sense,
02:59no heroine suffered as much as Wanda Maximoff,
03:01who always had some of the most generic looks,
03:03receiving extensive comparisons with Jean Grey in X-Men.
03:06The last stand,
03:07that tried at all costs to break away
03:08from the classic comic book costumes,
03:10clashing with a lot of the Scarlet Witch from the comics.
03:12Fortunately,
03:13WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
03:15are here to fix that.
03:16X-Men
03:17At the beginning of the golden age of the X-Men at Fox,
03:19we had a flood of costumes made from leather,
03:21as part of an attempt to break away
03:23from the more colorful and fantastical aspects of the comics.
03:25However,
03:26when the MCU began to gain ground,
03:28fans began to clamor for costumes that,
03:30even when modernized,
03:31referred to the comics.
03:32It is then that,
03:33after the end of X-Men,
03:34Apocalypse suggested that we would finally see the heroes
03:37with faithful costumes,
03:38X-Men.
03:39Dark Phoenix arrives to frustrate fans
03:41with generic uniforms and bright colors,
03:42taking away the character's entire identity.
03:44Flash
03:45Even today,
03:46Justice League divides opinions.
03:47With a troubled launch
03:48after Zack Snyder's dismissal,
03:50the film was signed by Joss Whedon,
03:51who would later be accused of racism
03:53and abusive conduct behind the scenes.
03:55Even though,
03:56years later,
03:57Snyder had the opportunity to finalize
03:58and release his version,
03:59the film still hasn't corrected one of the biggest mistakes,
04:01the Flash's costume.
04:02Played by Ezra Miller,
04:03who would also be accused of several crimes after the film,
04:06the Scarlet Speedster uses an improvised costume
04:08that is a set of plastic plates attached to a leotard.
04:11The effect is somewhat amateurish
04:12and seems to be falling apart which,
04:14even though it is intended to show the beginning of Flash's journey into heroism,
04:17only results in something ugly to look at.
04:19Write in the comments what's the worst superhero costume
04:21that I didn't put on this list.
