00:00Hi there, this is the th sound, as in the words this, that and other.
00:15The th sound is from the consonant pairs group and it is called the voiced dental fricative.
00:24This means that you create friction between the tongue and the top teeth.
00:29The th sound is made through the mouth and is voiced, which means that you vibrate your
00:35vocal cords to make the sound.
00:38It is defined by the position of your tongue and teeth and it is a fricative which means
00:44the sound is produced by high pressure air flow going between a narrow space in the mouth.
00:51In this case it is the space between the tip of the tongue and the top teeth.
00:58So to produce the sound you have to stick out your tongue a little.
01:02This can feel very unnatural for some people who are not used to it, but it is essential
01:07to produce the sound correctly.
01:10So rest your top teeth on your tongue and force air out between your tongue and your
01:18teeth whilst voicing out.
01:20The th sound is normally spelled with the letters
01:28th, as in the words the, mother, weather and either.
01:43Here are some more words that begin with the th sound.
