00:00Melania Trump has now inserted herself in the election,
00:05whether that was her intention or not,
00:07but inserted herself in a huge way.
00:11She has a book coming out called Melania
00:14and she put a video out on her social media
00:17to promote the book and she has taken a position
00:22which is markedly different from the position
00:25her husband has taken on one of the biggest issues
00:29in the campaign, abortion.
00:32Individual freedom is a fundamental principle
00:35that I safeguard.
00:38Without a doubt, there is no room for compromise
00:41when it comes to this essential right
00:44that all women possess from birth.
00:47Individual freedom, what does my body, my choice really mean?
00:54So the idea that Melania Trump,
00:57five weeks before the election,
00:59is coming out and saying that she is staunchly pro-choice,
01:05when Donald Trump, he has kind of waffled on this
01:08and you go back to the 90s,
01:11Donald Trump, before he had real designs on the White House,
01:16was a pro-choice guy.
01:18He was solidly pro-choice.
01:20He has changed that and he vowed to overturn Roe versus Wade.
01:26He seemed okay with the states doing anything
01:30they wanted to do after Roe.
01:32He's now tried to moderate that a little bit
01:34by saying 15 weeks is about the ban that he wants.
01:39His wife has-
01:41No, I've been trying to figure out,
01:42can I reconcile these two positions
01:45and is there any way they fit together?
01:46No, I don't think they do, Harvey.
01:47I don't think they do either.
01:49She is taking a different approach, a different opinion
01:52to this very important issue
01:54and I am surprised, but I do think the takeaway here
01:58can be you're not going to agree with a candidate
02:01on every single issue and that doesn't necessarily mean
02:03that you can't support that person.
02:05Clearly, they're on separate sides here.
02:06I have a different take on this
02:09and I think Jason just started.
02:11Jason, I wanna just throw this out to you
02:13and see what you think.
02:14Here's my take.
02:15Donald Trump realizes that abortion
02:18is gonna cost him dearly when it comes to voters
02:21and especially female voters
02:24and if you've noticed, he has tempered a lot
02:28over the last couple of months.
02:29He says he's now against a federal abortion ban.
02:32He says he is now-
02:33I don't know that he ever said
02:34he was for a federal abortion ban.
02:36He skirted it, he skirted it.
02:38He wouldn't answer the question in the first debate
02:40and now he's saying he's against it.
02:43He's now, he's supporting 15 weeks as the limit.
02:48I think in a way, he wanted Melania to do this
02:53to soften his position more.
02:55I think there's a very, very good chance that is right.
02:58I think this doesn't hurt him.
02:59It doesn't hurt him at all.
03:00Husbands and wives disagree on important issues all the time
03:03and I think this doesn't hurt him.
03:05I think it could potentially help him.
03:06I don't really think it helps him much but it could
03:09and I think that he is not upset that she put it out.
03:11I did, I do wanna focus in on one thing
03:13that she said in her statement
03:15which is that there is no room for compromise on this issue
03:20and I thought that was pretty fascinating
03:22and to be that stark about it means
03:23that we can't even agree to disagree.
03:26We cannot honor the opinion, I think,
03:30that it's not too much of an extrapolation to say
03:33even the opinion of somebody who takes a different position,
03:35there is no room to compromise.
03:37I found that very interesting.
03:38I wanna go one, I wanna go a step further than that, Jason.
03:43When she says there is no room for compromise,
03:45I think what she's really saying
03:48is that this should not have been left to the states
03:51because when the states make decisions,
03:54they're all over the board.
03:56This is almost like her saying it was a huge mistake
03:59to overturn Roe versus Wade
04:01because it nationalized the standard.
04:03Yeah.
04:04Hi, this is Buki from Texas.
04:06We love Melania, we're glad she gave Michelle a gift
04:10but hey, let her vote her choice, her pro-choice.
04:13I wish she had told that to Donald a little bit earlier
04:15but I hope she votes her pro-choice.
04:17Yeah, I just find this so fascinating.
04:19I love you.
04:20I love you.
04:21I love you.
04:22I love you.
