00:00You
00:1024 hours at Chillingham Castle scared us. Will it scare you?
00:30Hello and welcome to Most Haunted. We've come to Northumberland to try and uncover
00:41the mystery of Chillingham Castle. Now over the years it's made a name for itself as being
00:46one of the most haunted places in Great Britain. It's been called the home of the torturers
00:52and one priest has described it as an embodiment of evil. So is Chillingham Castle haunted?
00:59Does it live up to its reputation? Or is it just an old draughty castle with creaky
01:04windows? Well that's what the Most Haunted team are here to find out.
01:23Chillingham was built in the 12th century in the middle of the beautiful Northumberland
01:27countryside. It was once one of the most important and senior strongholds of this region.
01:33Bloody battles between the English and Scottish were fought in the surrounding fields. Chillingham
01:38was used as a shelter for English soldiers and a prison for Scottish rebels. Over the
01:43years this castle has housed many people, each with a story to tell. Perhaps these people
01:50are the ghosts of Chillingham.
01:58Most Haunted want to try and uncover the truth behind the supposed hauntings here.
02:03Now to do that we're going to spend the night, 24 hours to be exact. What we want to try
02:09and do is try to capture any paranormal activity on film and to uncover the truth behind the
02:16ghosts that are said to walk here. Now let me introduce you to our crew. We've got Mark
02:19on steady cam. Hi Mark. You alright? And then we've got just picking behind there, say hi
02:24to Martin. He's on sound. And then we've got our lovely, oh lovely producer, Karl.
02:29Turn around and say hello to me. Ian, one of our cameramen. Hi. Rick, one of our cameramen.
02:34You scared tonight? Er, somewhat, yeah. Bit nervous. Where's our director, Bev? What are
02:40you expecting to happen tonight? Who knows? I'm a big girl. What's the worst that can
02:44happen? Absolutely. Marcel, our make-up lady. You scared? Erm, I'm an open-minded sceptic.
02:49Good. And of course Max, he keeps us nice and warm with tea and coffee and food. I do.
02:54Are you scared? Erm, no, not really. Famous last words.
03:08I've also enlisted the help of a parapsychologist, Jason Carl. Now Jason, what exactly is a parapsychologist?
03:14A parapsychologist is somebody who studies unusual phenomena, things like ghosts, haunted
03:18houses, but also includes other things such as mediums and psychics as well. So Jason,
03:22as a parapsychologist, do you believe in ghosts? I believe that certain things happen that
03:26we can't explain. Whether or not they are down to ghosts or some other unexplainable
03:30phenomenon that science can't currently understand is down to a person's personal beliefs. But
03:35certainly I have monitored areas where ghosts have been reported, which do show unusual
03:40fluctuations on our equipment, so something is happening. Now talking of equipment, you've
03:44got some bits and pieces here. Just very quickly tell us what you've got. Well tonight
03:48one of the things that we're going to use, and we have used before in the past here,
03:51is an infrared zero lux camera. Basically this looks in the dark and it sees things
03:55that the human eye can't see. So when it's pitch black to us, this camera can see. And
03:58we have caught anomalies, things that perhaps can't be explained on that in the past. One
04:03of the other things that I'll be using is basically a non-contact laser thermometer.
04:07And what this does, it fires a laser beam and between the thermometer itself and a hard
04:12surface that the beam is reacting to, it measures the in-between temperature. So if
04:16there is something, perhaps invisible to the human eye, which is affecting the temperature
04:20as a lot of reported ghosts are supposed to do, this will tell us. And we can then corroborate
04:24that by taking photographs, which perhaps will corroborate the evidence again and show
04:27something that we can't see. Okay. We're also going to use electromagnetic field sensors.
04:32Now everything in the world, you, me, the floor, the steps, everything around us has
04:36an electromagnetic field. And this basically can measure that field. Now fluctuations do
04:41not occur in the electromagnetic field naturally unless they're due to electric cables or they're
04:45due to equipment of some kind functioning. Now if an electromagnetic energy fluctuation
04:50occurs, this will tell us. And if we can't explain it, then it's something, for want
04:54of a better word, paranormal, because we can't explain it at the moment. And there is a lot
04:58of theories which suggest that electromagnetic field fluctuations are associated with ghosts.
05:03Right. Okay. Now there's one last member of our crew to arrive. Derek Okora is a man who
05:08claims he can talk to the dead. Now he has no knowledge of our location or its history.
05:14And at present, he's been driven around the countryside until we are ready for his arrival.
05:31Sir Humphrey Wakefield and his family have owned and lived in Chillingham Castle for
05:35years. He was kind enough to show us round.
05:42Oh, Sir Humphrey, this is a beautiful room. What's it called?
05:44Minstrel's Hall. Really? Very much part of castle life.
05:49Is it haunted? I've heard that it's haunted. I mean, the whole castle is wonderfully haunted
05:54and we're very happy with it and they're happy with us. So you're not at all bothered by
05:59the ghosts, supposed ghosts that are here? They're not supposed, they're all for real.
06:04And they're very much part of our life and we're part of their life. And that makes us very happy.
06:11What sort of year does the castle date back to? It dates back to the 1100s, just after the conquest.
06:17And ever since the 1200s, the same family have more or less been living here. And so
06:22the ghosts will know who we are and we know who they are. And it all works very well.
06:27And this is Briggie. Hello, sweetheart. Now, does Briggie feel anything?
06:32Briggie certainly does, yes. What sort of things does he do?
06:35He, I don't know, he either wags his tail and goes up and looks very friendly or else
06:40he might growl and look into a corner. Really? But he sees things that we don't see
06:45and he's very happy with them. Right, OK then. Do you want to tell me more about the history?
06:50I think we can go up the stairs here, can't we? I'm trying to get my bearings right.
06:54You'll get them in time. Come and stay for a few years. No, thanks.
07:03So this is the chapel we have here, as you can see.
07:07Oh, it's beautiful. It really is lovely. Have there been any hauntings in this particular room?
07:13I think, curiously, in the whole castle, this is the one place where there haven't been any hauntings.
07:20I think chapels, in a way, are left very much in peace.
07:25There's a great feeling of peace in this place and I think nothing happens here.
07:30I think everything's at rest here. Didn't you find some skeletons here?
07:33Yes, there were some skeletons found there and the experts all thought that there should therefore
07:40be a particular turbulence, but I don't think so. I think they sort of had holy burial.
07:46Did you ever find out who the skeletons were? No, never did.
07:49Shall we carry on? Do you want to lead the way? Right. Very good. Wonderful.
07:53I'll follow you. Oh, it's freezing.
07:58So, Samfrey, these are holiday apartments as well, aren't they?
08:02These are private rooms, but there are holiday apartments in the castle, certainly.
08:09But why would anybody want to come and have a holiday here?
08:12They've got a wonderful bonus. If they're interested in hauntings, they can come to our haunted apartments.
08:18If they're interested in not hauntings, they can go to our wing, which has no spiritual presence at all.
08:25I've heard of the blue boy. Am I right in saying this, that he was supposed to be buried alive in the walls?
08:32In this place, there's a passageway through the wall there, to what we call the pink room.
08:37When my visitors come here, they often say there must be an electric fault.
08:43They say they see a blue flash. All I know is that they saw the radiant form,
08:49and the child bones were discovered in that wall, and I know of no other horrors.
08:58After hours of being driven round the countryside, Derek Okora, our spiritual medium, had finally arrived.
09:05With our team now assembled at Chillingham Castle, we started showing Derek around.
09:10Before we had time to switch on the cameras, he saw an apparition in the form of a woman.
09:15Immediately, Rick, our cameraman, began to feel fate.
09:19You were so real solemn, and this happens to you. Are you all right?
09:25Just sit there.
09:32What happened?
09:34Just all that. You know, all on your head. What you used to feel on that, and then it just went ditzy.
09:38I thought you were going to faint.
09:41All right?
09:43He just went a bit dizzy, and, um...
09:46Right. Was all that?
09:48Yeah.
09:49OK.
09:50No probs. You're going to be all right. No probs.
09:53Um, was... Where was he at the time?
09:55Here. Just here.
09:57OK. And who else was here?
09:59OK. All this is, is, um, what we call the essence of the lady that was showing herself before.
10:05Did you feel any sense coming across your legs at all?
10:08Yeah, still on that.
10:09Yeah, she's here. OK.
10:11Step back, sweetie.
10:14Step back. Step back. Come on, you're affecting him too much.
10:17Bless you.
10:19Step back.
10:22She's eager.
10:23Well, that's great. Oh, sweetie.
10:26Do you want to take five minutes out?
10:29Why would she have done that to Rick? Is it because he's sensitive to...?
10:32Yes. Yes. She's just come in, come close to him, and what he's done, his movement has actually interacted,
10:39and they've come into the same, um, the orb of his aura, so it's affected him that way.
10:45If he just has a couple of little drinks of water, and, um...
10:50Even if... Rick, take... Go out of this area just for a minute.
10:55Go out of this area, and you'll get your focus back.
10:58Do you want to get this thing off me?
11:00You'll get your focus back.
11:02Oh, God, I've no idea what you're doing.
11:04Go and have a rest.
11:05Not a rest, what, a fag?
11:07It's going to be OK, honestly.
11:09This was where you told me earlier, off camera...
11:11Yes.
11:12..that you sensed the lady.
11:13Yeah, when we were down in...
11:14Her name's Mary, and she's so, so eager, and it's enthusiasm.
11:19Um, but, um...
11:24You see... How can I put this?
11:27She's not against men, but I get the inclination, because she's backed off,
11:31she's not speaking to me, but I've just asked my guide, Sam.
11:35She's a... How can I put it?
11:37He looked a little bit like someone that, um...
11:42How can I put this? Give it to me clearly, Sam.
11:45Get it clearly for me, please.
11:49She was disappointed because he looked a little bit like her husband
11:54in his younger years.
11:56And it's like she's looking for him, and it's...
11:58Oh, and she comes to his legs and realises...
12:01What have you?
12:03So, facially, he looks a little bit like...
12:06And what's this lady's name?
12:08Mary.
12:09Mary.
12:10Jason, can you confirm that?
12:12Can you confirm that?
12:13Don't tell me any more.
12:14It's early stages, but there is...
12:16There is a spirit connected with Chilean Castle
12:18whose first name is Mary, there is.
12:20And she is one of the stronger,
12:22almost reported spirits, if you like.
12:24Right, OK.
12:26OK, she's disappointed.
12:28She's very, very disappointed.
12:30In other words, when a person's, like, broken-hearted...
12:32Yeah.
12:33..and she's walking around so broken-hearted,
12:36and she feels so let down,
12:38and she talks about her daughter...
12:41Thank you, Sam.
12:42..talks about her daughter, who is also let down.
12:46And she was disappointed with me.
12:49Let down, why?
12:54She doesn't believe her husband could do that to her.
12:58What's, um...
13:02OK, she waited for him for a long time.
13:06And he was, um...
13:08Was he?
13:09He was off with another lady.
13:11Oh.
13:13And she sat for hours and hours.
13:15And she sat and she waited.
13:17And she waited on her daughter.
13:19Very, very lonely.
13:21Very, very lonely.
13:23And they cried tears together.
13:25And the tears are still here.
13:27And the tears are upsetting.
13:30They enveloped me.
13:32And she's so sad.
13:34So sad.
13:35Why is he doing this?
13:37She still thinks, bless her,
13:39that he's going to come back.
13:42He can't, my dear.
13:46That's very interesting,
13:47because the story connected with the ghost of Mary...
13:51I haven't watched the surname yet.
13:53..is believed to haunt the castle,
13:55because she's searching for her own husband,
13:57who went off with Mary's sister, Lady Henrietta.
14:01Oh.
14:02He went off with her and left the castle
14:04and left her alone here with her daughter.
14:06In the castle alone.
14:07She's going to try, bless her, to actually show herself
14:11and not just go on the, what we call, the psych sensations.
14:14Sam said she's prepared.
14:19She seems to be, in her own way, interested.
14:22And she wants to get the story.
14:24She wants to get the true story herself.
14:26Right.
14:27She still, to this present day, doesn't know what happened.
14:30Hmm.
14:31So she can get the story.
14:33Who?
14:35Who?
14:39OK.
14:43She caught the two men talking,
14:46and one was her husband,
14:48and one was who worked around him.
14:51Can you give me more later?
14:53Can you give me more, please?
14:54Can you find out more for me, Sam?
14:57Is she going to keep hounding Rick, then?
14:59No, no, we've asked her very, very kindly to leave his area,
15:04leave him alone.
15:05Because he just went, he just stood here,
15:07and he just went, oh, my God.
15:09Yes.
15:10And he glazed over, his eyes went bloodshot.
15:12Yes.
15:13And he started swaying from side to side like that,
15:15and went, help me.
15:16Yes, and this is exactly what can happen, Yvette.
15:19Right, OK.
15:20And it hits the legs.
15:21This is why I asked him, did it start round the legs?
15:23Yes.
15:24And he said yes.
15:25OK.
15:26And it just rushed up like this.
15:27Now, OK, sometimes, you know, like the lovely lady,
15:31very sorrowful lady.
15:32Yeah.
15:33So we've got to be a little bit, um...
15:35Finish...
15:36Sympathetic.
15:37Yeah, to...
15:38To find out why she's, you know, totally, she's so sorrowful.
15:40And also maybe to help her, maybe for the first time,
15:43into understanding that basically, hey,
15:46she is not in the physical any more.
15:49Yeah.
15:50And she shouldn't have to be thinking so drastically
15:53and so hatefully, even to this present day.
15:57It's time to let go.
15:58It's time to let go.
15:59I appreciate what you're saying, Derek.
16:01And although I can't say whether you are correct or incorrect,
16:04what has to be taken into consideration is that we are in an environment
16:07where people are expecting to experience things.
16:09Certain people are edgy.
16:11People know there are ghosts here.
16:13And also people are very tired.
16:14They've been up a long time working very hard today.
16:16So it could simply be that he's very tired
16:18and he's come over a bit faint and dizzy.
16:20With total respect, I do not feel that what Vic has just experienced
16:26was anything other than what we've actually been saying.
16:36With Rick now completely recovered,
16:38the team sat down to enjoy a hearty meal
16:40before a long, cold night of ghost hunting.
16:44Whether there are any ghosts here is debatable,
16:47but people will have experiences
16:49because of what they expect to occur when they come here.
16:52You don't need to know that it has a spectral history
16:54in order to experience something here,
16:56whether it be otherworldly or whether it be from within your own mind,
16:59again, is open to interpretation.
17:02A lot of spirits can actually, without coming into our atmosphere,
17:07can send that thought transference through the different dimensions
17:11and form themselves as they were
17:15if they've personally had an experience
17:17with that place that you are in at that time.
17:20Bev, in one of the rooms when we were looking round,
17:25you felt sick.
17:27I walked into a particular space in the room
17:31and three things happened at the same time.
17:33I felt like there was a weight on top of my head.
17:36I felt like there was something pushing really hard into my chest
17:40and I felt like I was going to throw up with that kind of instant,
17:43like, oh, I'm going to throw up.
17:46Get me a bucket now, kind of throw up.
17:49I moved out of the space and it stopped, but I could feel it still.
17:53It was like the imprint on it was still on me.
17:57Sorry, as I'm sitting here now, something went past that window.
18:00I saw it earlier and I know exactly on the tape where it happened.
18:03I noted it on the time.
18:05It looked like two people, a person, walking out over there.
18:09It was out that window and it caught my eye and I looked
18:11because I thought, oh, someone's walking in the shot.
18:13Who's walked across the light?
18:15That was definite. I thought somebody popped outside.
18:19To me it was like a line, like a flash, like that.
18:23This was somebody going across that window which crossed the light
18:27and it was definite. I did see that.
18:31Determined as ever to find a logical solution,
18:34Jason immediately went out to investigate.
18:38Ah!
18:41Well, if it had to be somebody walking across,
18:44they'd walk on, they wouldn't cross over there, would they?
18:47They'd walk across.
18:49To me, it looked like somebody had walked across here, like that.
18:53But looking at the shadow that's casting there,
18:56it would have to have been a lot higher because the shadow I saw
19:00on that shutter inside the window, you can see where my shadow is casting,
19:04it's just at the bottom of the shutter, it was much higher.
19:06So in order for... I mean, I'm six foot,
19:08so it would have to be somebody who's like seven foot.
19:10But I did see it and it's interesting as well that Ian also saw it
19:13and then Yvette saw something as well.
19:15Because single, uncorroborated testimony, as it's known,
19:18if one person experienced something, is pretty useless,
19:20but to have three people experience something very similar
19:22in the same short space of time makes it a lot more interesting.
19:25Sadly, we had caught nothing on tape.
19:28Shall we make our way over there? Let's go.
19:34OK, Derek, now, you know this is the minstrels' gallery.
19:37How does it feel?
19:39Well, it backed off slightly and it calmed down.
19:43But now, since we've come into the atmosphere,
19:46there's a slight urgency and the feelings of, you know,
19:49I need to be pulled, both psychically and spiritually,
19:52to an area in the castle.
19:54It's like it's got all my hackles, so to speak, wanting to go.
19:59And that's from this room? That's from this room.
20:01It's like an urgency to come on, then.
20:03Come and see and speak.
20:05Now, I've heard that if there are such things as ghosts,
20:08they don't like the light, so shall we...?
20:10They prefer the darkness. Do they? They do, yeah.
20:12Shall we turn the lights off? Are we all in agreement, everybody?
20:15Yes.
20:17OK, let's turn the lights off. Turn the lights off.
20:20Right then, Derek, we'll follow you.
20:23I've got the candle and off we go.
20:25Derek says he has a spirit guide called Sam
20:27who links him to the spirit world.
20:29Sam will guide Derek to different places around the castle.
20:32Now, bear in mind that we have given Derek no information
20:35about the history or legends of Chillingham.
20:38Jason will be following us to verify any names
20:41or historical events that Derek mentions.
20:44Now, listen out very carefully for an unexplained hissing noise.
20:50What's that noise?
20:52What noise? What noise?
20:54Oh, God, get out, get out, get out!
21:00Come here.
21:02We were all absolutely terrified, but we set off again.
21:06I can't go up there, I'm really sorry.
21:08You don't have to, darling. I'm really sorry, I am absolutely...
21:11If you want to go back and sit, do you want to come back to your room?
21:14I'll take a look. No, I'll take a look.
21:25Why did you want to come back?
21:27I'm petrified, basically.
21:30What's that noise?
21:32Petrified of what?
21:34I'm so frightened, I can't even think straight.
21:37I can't see straight.
21:39I'll be better where I can put the light on.
21:42If you hear screaming, you know where it's coming from.
21:45God, I'm so embarrassed.
21:48Sorry, guys.
21:52Marcel was definitely giving up the ghost.
21:55The hissing incident had set all our nerves jangling.
21:58What noise? What noise?
22:00Oh, God, get out, get out, get out!
22:06Come here.
22:08I, for one, was suffering some severe misgivings at this point,
22:11and we all had to steel ourselves in order to carry on.
22:14What else would the night hold in store?
22:16Derek seemed undaunted,
22:18and before long he sensed another spirit presence.
22:21I'm very aware of this lady, this kindred lady spirit,
22:26and it's coming through me quite strong.
22:31I asked, please, can you just give me a little bit more information?
22:37Thank you. Thank you, Sam.
22:39See if you can get that clear.
22:43That's better. It's okay, I'm sorry.
22:45Forget it, it's just my...
22:48Are you with me?
22:50Okay.
22:54Okay. That's better, thank you.
22:57You told me where you wanted to come.
23:00Have you picked up any names before?
23:02Yes, yes.
23:04What's her name?
23:07Lady Mary.
23:09Lady Mary.
23:10Well, this was the name that we came up with earlier on,
23:12and there is a Lady Mary.
23:14Okay.
23:15Just ask her, please, if she can just kindly forgive me.
23:20Oh, God, no.
23:25Okay, don't use that, please, on me.
23:31Lady Mary Grey.
23:33Is that right, Jason?
23:35Lady Mary Grey.
23:37She's coming.
23:40Bark at me. Bark at me.
23:43Bark at me.
23:45Lady Barkley.
23:47Lady Barkley.
23:51Thank you, that's better. Thank you.
23:53Lady Mary Barkley.
23:55Barkley.
23:56She walks the passageways,
23:59still not knowing,
24:01still not knowing the true picture of why.
24:07Thank you for that.
24:09Thank you. What's her name?
24:11There's a lady she's not too happy with,
24:14she's not too impressed with,
24:16and although she calls this lady,
24:20she calls this lady who doesn't appear to come,
24:23and yet she calls and calls,
24:25and her frustrations are born out of...
24:35Leonora. Leonora.
24:37She's not happy with Leonora.
24:40Leonora.
24:42No, Leonora doesn't link with Lady Mary Barkley.
24:46Okay, she's not happy with something to do with that, okay?
24:49Okay, that would make perhaps...
24:51She's not happy with something there.
24:55Leonora wrote an account of the alleged ghosts
24:58that are supposed to haunt the castle in 1925.
25:01She didn't listen. She didn't listen enough to Mary.
25:05Well, Leonora wrote the story of Mary Barkley and Mary Barkley's ghost.
25:09She didn't listen to her.
25:11She'd come to her, she'd come to her often
25:14and give her the inspired thoughts
25:17for her to put pen to paper.
25:21She used to stand and look over her shoulder.
25:24Right.
25:25It seems as if she's drawing me,
25:28and it's like she's giving me a mental picture
25:31of a bedroom.
25:33She's been doing it all along.
25:35Shall we go to that bedroom there?
25:37Is that where she's asking you to go?
25:39Please.
25:40She wants us to go.
25:42She really, really wants us to go.
25:44Okay.
25:50Do you want me to tell you where the bedroom is?
25:53Or is she leading you to it?
25:55No, I'll get the pool this way.
25:57Okay, it's that way.
25:59Yes.
26:02At this section.
26:03Yeah.
26:08There's a boy crying.
26:11Okay, come this way, everything's fine.
26:14Is everything okay?
26:16Yeah.
26:20Was the weeping boy distracting us from our purpose,
26:23to find Lady Mary Barkley's bedroom?
26:25Why was Derek being led in another direction?
26:31Upstairs he seemed disorientated and a little bewildered.
26:34Had we lost the trail?
26:38What's going through your mind, Derek?
26:42I was drawn here, and yet I want to go back out again.
26:47Why?
26:48At this moment, I don't know why.
26:51But I'm drawn here.
26:54Was this the bedroom that you were talking about earlier on,
26:57when you were talking about Mary?
26:59Why has my turtle gone to pink?
27:01Why has my turtle gone to pink?
27:05It's just surrounding me in pink and feeling.
27:08This came to me earlier.
27:11I didn't understand it.
27:14Like as if I'm just surrounded with pink here.
27:18And yet, it's just like swirling round me.
27:23Well, we are actually next to...
27:25The bedroom beyond this door is known as the pink bedroom.
27:28It is pink.
27:29There isn't anything pink in it.
27:31No. Cool.
27:32Good. This is the way we want.
27:34It's to draw to the pink.
27:38Oh, yes.
27:40It's the boy again.
27:42Can anyone hear him?
27:43No.
27:45You see, the colour blue is a healing,
27:49a very, very strong healing colour.
27:51And also drawn around this boy
27:55as he comes into the atmosphere
27:58and his cries, not of help,
28:00but cries that have gone unheard
28:04because of cruelties that are associated with this boy.
28:08I get the feeling within, you know, of incarceration.
28:12I can't say that word any stronger of what I really, really mean
28:16or they want me to say, incarceration.
28:19And if someone is jammed behind something
28:22and is thinking
28:25and...
28:27Wow.
28:28It's feelings.
28:30So rude!
28:34Oh, let me go!
28:37No!
28:39Leave me alone!
28:43Leave me alone!
28:46No, no, no.
28:48Come and help me!
28:50No!
28:54No!
28:56Come on.
28:59Come on, son.
29:00Come on, son.
29:01Come on.
29:04It's the grounds.
29:06The wall.
29:07The wall.
29:08I'm behind the wall.
29:10That man was locked here with me.
29:13He was locked here with me.
29:16I didn't want him here.
29:18I didn't want him here.
29:20Sam, don't.
29:21Tell him to step back, please.
29:23Step back, please.
29:25The fact that you've said incarceration is interesting
29:28because the legend has it that he was immured in a wall
29:32and some builders were excavating
29:35and they excavated a fireplace opposite to this one
29:37and they found some bones which were later discovered to be a boy child
29:41and also another skeleton was found of a male adult with the child.
29:46But since then people haven't necessarily reported seeing the boy
29:49but they do see flashes of blue light supposedly
29:53which people often mistake it for something electrical
29:56but there isn't anything electrical in this wall.
29:57It's all been checked out.
29:59That's how the story goes anyway
30:01and that sort of fits in very well with what you have just experienced
30:06and what you've picked up on.
30:08Are you all right?
30:09Yeah, I'm fine. I'm great. I'm great.
30:12It just came in and Sam said,
30:16let it be, just relax back and let him say.
30:20Do you want to see if we can go in there?
30:22I don't know if this door is unlocked or not.
30:24Sorry about that.
30:25Oh, no, it's fine.
30:28This is what, yes, I'm drawn here very strongly.
30:32This is the wall where the immured bones were discovered.
30:37Yes.
30:38I feel this.
30:44Oh, yes.
30:52You see, as I come here, as I come here,
30:57the feelings now are of the peacefulness
31:03and that was allowed, I feel,
31:07which took me unawares really, but it was allowed.
31:10Sam says, let go.
31:12Now that is what Jason had said.
31:16There is the rest period for the boy,
31:20but that was given as what the experience
31:24prior to actually leaving this physical body
31:29of the screaming because there was screaming.
31:32I heard screeching and screaming coming up the stairs
31:36and that was like, just for a short period of time, coming in.
31:42Well, people who've seen the ghost have said
31:44that it moans or wails at them.
31:46That was a screeching.
31:48And I feel, without a doubt, and I say this humbly,
31:53that not just as incarceration,
31:57but the picture and the feeling that I was receiving
32:00was that the torture of the boy,
32:04the torturing of the boy in many ways.
32:08Well, no one knows, I mean, the bones were there, that's a fact.
32:11We don't know who they were, they don't know who the child was
32:14or why he was immured or why there was a skeleton
32:17or why an adult was immured with him.
32:19They don't know if he was dead before it was put in
32:22or whether it was immured alive, whatever.
32:24They don't know, that's a fact.
32:26All they know is that there were bones there,
32:28they were a child and they were a male child.
32:30I got the ending of a life of poisoning as well.
32:32I've had two poisoning conditions here, a lady and a boy.
32:37Poisoning.
32:39Oh, it's abuse before.
32:45Hi. OK.
32:47What do you want me to do, Sam?
32:49Take me where?
32:51There was two men.
32:54They gave me insights earlier of two men,
32:58one man being very secretive
33:00and swearing the other person who was taking his confidence
33:03and really threatening him with his life
33:07if he broke the confidence.
33:09One was above the other,
33:11one was in charge,
33:14one was his lord.
33:18Lord?
33:20Lord who?
33:22That's Lord Grey.
33:24Does that make sense?
33:26There are several Lord Greys.
33:28Lord Grey.
33:30They tell me to go to the library.
33:32Library.
33:34Library area.
33:36Can we go to the library?
33:38There is a connection as well,
33:40when you were talking earlier about the Lady Mary Barclay.
33:42Yes.
33:43She connects with a Lord Grey.
33:45OK.
33:46Where's the library area?
33:47It's back actually, we need to go back down.
33:49We can go there, they're prompting us to go there
33:51and they'll give us information.
33:53Come on, let's go.
33:55While the team moved to another part of the castle,
33:57Dave producer Karl decided to take a look at a storage room
34:00near the torture chamber.
34:02Keep your eye on the white plastic box on the table.
34:09Right, I tried to go in here earlier
34:12and got some noises
34:14and I went in here just a minute ago
34:18and my camera wouldn't record.
34:21So I've just been recording outside
34:23and now
34:25over the intrepid trap
34:27I can't make it in here again.
34:29I know, it's stupid.
34:32I really can't make out what all this stuff is.
34:37I can't actually walk any further into the room
34:39because there's so much stuff.
34:41Oh, ****.
34:44Um, OK.
34:47There's not anything that I can
34:50certainly see.
34:54I'm sure the noise came from here.
35:01Oh.
35:05What was that?
35:07What was that?
35:09Sounded like some glass
35:11breaking or
35:14being wrapped on.
35:16Hmm.
35:21I don't feel too bad in here.
35:29There's certain noises.
35:32Oh, ****.
35:37****.
35:40Right.
35:43That's enough.
35:45I guess we get Derek in there later on.
35:48I don't want to go back in there.
35:54The boy draws my attention out here
35:57to something that must be important.
35:59It's got to be important.
36:01You let it be important in the sense that
36:03for some reason there's a drawing
36:05from the, um, away from the wall
36:08from which we were there.
36:10Up there?
36:11Yes, and he draws me to a bedroom
36:14and he shows me, in my home
36:16I've got a four-poster bed.
36:18And he takes me and he shows me purposely
36:20a four-poster bed.
36:23And he said twice to Sam, twice.
36:28Um, he didn't mean to frighten.
36:31He didn't mean to frighten
36:33the woman who was sleeping
36:36in the four-poster bed.
36:39And he was aware
36:41about his colouring around him.
36:44And he said, she saw me.
36:47She saw me, she saw me.
36:49I watched her ways.
36:52Well, Leonora Tankerville,
36:54who wrote the account that you mentioned
36:56in the banqueting hall before
36:58when you came up with the name Leonora,
37:00her account of the Blue Boy or Agent Boy hauntings
37:03go back to a time when a four-poster bed
37:05existed in the pink bedroom.
37:07And that's where people slept
37:09who saw the Blue Boy.
37:11And that's where the earliest accounts of people
37:13citing the alleged apparition come from.
37:15But there isn't a four-poster bed there any more.
37:17OK. What was he talking about?
37:19He wanted to talk about that.
37:21Now, bless him, eh?
37:23Bless him.
37:27Freaked by the incident in the torture chamber,
37:29Carl set off to rejoin us.
37:31On his way back through the castle,
37:33he had yet another chilling experience to report.
37:37I said something about a little girl.
37:39It could have been a little girl laughing.
37:41In where?
37:43Just down in that corridor.
37:45You know where our rooms are?
37:47Yeah.
37:49There's some boxes, like bread baskets or something.
37:51Just about there.
37:53And I ran back and said,
37:55did you hear anything?
37:57And he said, a little girl.
37:59He said, a little girl talking.
38:01And I said, well, I thought it was a little boy laughing.
38:03So you both heard something.
38:05A little girl talking, I said.
38:07A little girl, was it?
38:09Minutes.
38:11There aren't any children in the castle tonight?
38:13No.
38:15It seemed like a scream.
38:17Where did you hear that?
38:19It was just outside, but it could have been an animal.
38:21But it definitely sounded quite high-pitched.
38:23It was as if...
38:25And Beth said she heard it as well.
38:27So whether it's an animal or not, I don't know.
38:29There are animals on these dates.
38:31OK.
38:33Dark thirsty.
38:35As the night drew on, Derek was still being called
38:37by Sam, his spirit guide,
38:39to explore the old library.
38:41It seems to be getting me back
38:43into the section.
38:45It's very drafty here.
38:47Very drafty.
38:49It's just coming in.
38:51Very drafty here. I'm getting a real blast.
38:53It's very calm.
38:55It's a man. It's an officer.
38:57God, can you feel that?
38:59It's an officer.
39:01It's freezing.
39:03He's come very close to it here.
39:05It's so cold.
39:07He wants to make his presence felt
39:09in his own way.
39:11It's not registering
39:13anything unusual.
39:15It's freezing.
39:17The temperature around you is 8 or 9 degrees,
39:19which is normal.
39:21Jason, come and stand here.
39:23Yes.
39:25It was stronger a little bit earlier on
39:27when we first came in.
39:29I was drawn back down here.
39:31Maybe it's just
39:33wanting to come into the atmosphere
39:35and be recognised.
39:37Right.
39:39A torture chamber
39:41in total darkness was not a place
39:43any sane person would want to visit,
39:45especially after Carl's strange
39:47experience there.
39:49But that's where Derek insisted we went.
40:00There's a very oppressive
40:02vortex here.
40:04Absolutely.
40:09That is
40:11the place where
40:13I heard there's noises.
40:15And that box moved.
40:25This is the most negativity
40:27in the whole of the castle
40:29here.
40:31This here
40:33is not truly what it is.
40:37It's not.
40:39It's not really known
40:41where the torture chamber is.
40:43No, that's absolutely true.
40:45When developed, some of the photographs
40:47taken on Still's camera revealed
40:49mysterious floating objects
40:51invisible to the naked eye.
40:53Independent vision engineers have confirmed
40:55that they are not dust or refracted light.
40:57They could not give us an explanation
40:59as to what they are.
41:01With little time left before daybreak,
41:03I wanted Derek to have a look at the dungeon.
41:11Yeah.
41:13This, in actual fact, was like...
41:17I suppose the natural
41:19anguish... But, you see,
41:21after a period of time, it was like
41:23as if the spirit was broken.
41:25Yeah.
41:27Like, I'm defeated. Just give up.
41:29Take me.
41:33Oh, Sam, see if you can get in
41:35before me, please.
41:47Absolute, individual,
41:49total incarceration of a number.
41:53I'm afraid I can't ping-pong.
41:55I can't. When I say I can't,
41:57I'm not getting me.
42:05OK, OK.
42:23SHE SIGHS
42:31It was very interesting.
42:33A lot of people experienced a lot of things.
42:35Whether they were down to paranormal agencies
42:37or mass hysteria is open to interpretation,
42:39but it was a very interesting evening
42:41from all angles.
42:43Well, it's a very haunted house,
42:45a very haunted castle.
42:47We have to say Derek got an awful lot of things spot on.
42:49He did.
42:51He came back within the first hour or so
42:53by the...
42:55It seemed that the accumulation
42:57of activity...
42:59The electromagnetic energy sensor device
43:01that we used last night failed
43:03actually to locate any unusual
43:05fluctuations, for want of a better word.
43:07And it's important to note that in other
43:09investigations where people are seeing
43:11things or experiencing things,
43:13it also has not necessarily
43:15logged on the EMF reading.
43:17So the fact that it didn't log doesn't mean
43:19that anything was happening.
43:21It just means that we didn't catch any EMF fluctuation.
43:23It was a very pleasurable
43:25mixture of different
43:27experiences.
43:29So I'm just very thankful that what
43:31we were allowed to experience
43:33was something that will
43:35stay with us for quite a long time.
43:41Well, that was certainly a night to remember.
43:43Wouldn't you agree, everybody?
43:45Well, we're all off for a well-earned sleep now
43:47and we're off to our next location.
43:49We shall see you there. In the meantime,
43:51sleep tight.
43:59Are you all right?
44:03Where's all that?
44:05Yeah, OK. Step back, step back.
44:07Come on, you're affecting him too much.
44:09Let's get confused over in that corner.
44:11I swear I've just seen something out that window.
44:13Usually it's if there's something there.
44:15I turned around like I swore
44:17there was someone standing in front of me.
44:19I actually moved back because I thought someone had moved.
