00:00Welcome everyone to Coach Potato Diary, happy Wednesday, happy NHL Preview Day.
00:10My name is Peter Kline, thank you very much for tuning in today.
00:14This one's gonna be mostly about the National Hockey League, as we do what we always do
00:19with the season previews, running through every team in the National Hockey League as
00:23we get ready for the start of the 2024-2025 season.
00:29So that's gonna be the main focus of the day.
00:32Let me know your thoughts in the chat about any of the NHL teams that you have strong
00:37opinions on either way, and so we're going to be doing that.
00:42And then also at the end, a little bit of fight talk.
00:44It is a UFC 307 Fight Week, which means today we're going to be looking at the fighters
00:49that, not main event fighters, but the guys on the undercard, guys and girls, sorry, on
00:55the undercard, that you need to be paying attention to.
00:58Toxic already in the chat, as we're getting some Calgary Flames talk going on this one
01:02today, so yeah, we're going to be doing that.

01:21match with him and Mo Jabari, no-holds-barred, coming up on the 29th, back at Brickwell Taphouse.
01:27So, all of that out of the way, let's get into a lot of hockey talk today, as we run
01:32through the entirety of the NHL.
01:35Toxic, I'll get to the Flames thing in a bit here for sure.
01:46But yeah, we're going to be talking Flames in a little bit, but we're going to start
01:49with the point projections.
01:53I keep saying wins, it's not that.
01:55We're not saying... although I do feel comfortable saying Boston's going to get under 99.5 wins
01:59this year, but this is the point totals that we're going to be running through.
02:03So, like I do for every other sport, going to run through each team.
02:06There's a couple that the odds just weren't there for, so yeah, just going to run through
02:10every team, over-under on their point predictions, and then we'll give the playoff predictions
02:15at the end.
02:16Cool?
02:17Cool.
02:18So, let's begin in the Eastern Conference, and we begin, we're going alphabetically,
02:22with the Boston Bruins.
02:24Their total is at 99.5.
02:26I have under.
02:27I just feel like there's a little tumult in Boston right now, with what's going on with
02:32the goaltending situation, and all of those sorts of things.
02:36It just, it feels concerning that they don't have their goalie locked up, and they seem
02:41to be fighting with him now.
02:42Also, I know, the last like three years, you know what?
02:46This is the year Boston falls apart.
02:48You know what?
02:49This is when Boston, this is going to be the time Boston Bruins completely collapse and
02:53fall apart.
02:54This is going to be the year.
02:55And then it ends up, ends up not being the year.
02:58But I do think that this is going to be a team that doesn't get to 100 points this year.
03:03I think adding Lindholm and adding Zdorov are good pieces, but like, Lindholm kind of
03:09saved his value with a really good postseason last year, but he was not very good in the
03:14regular season.
03:15Zdorov is an upgrade for a bit, but again, I think that they're going to be asking maybe
03:20a little bit too much of him.
03:22And so I just, I don't see this as being the year that Boston rockets again to the top
03:26of the standings.
03:27The Buffalo Sabres.
03:29I have them under 89.5.
03:31This is absolutely a team that I have bought in on before.
03:37I think this has the potential to be one of the best blue lines in the NHL.
03:40I have questions about the goaltending, and I have questions about where the other goals
03:44are coming from.
03:45Tade Thompson is obviously a beast, I just don't know if they have added enough around
03:50him to create the offense that's going to be needed in a really, really competitive
03:55Eastern Conference to be able to take that step and move forward.
03:58So I have Buffalo coming in under 89.5 this year.
04:03Carolina, 100.5, I have them over.
04:05I was saying, like once they were done, like hey, watch out, because they're going to lose
04:11some pieces.
04:12And this is not a team that I think maybe takes, or this is a team that maybe takes
04:15a step back.
04:16But I do think that they kind of weathered that storm a little bit with a couple of the
04:21moves that they made, bringing in guys like Walker and all of that.
04:24And then, like you keep that core with Aho and all of those guys around.
04:29This is still a very talented hockey team.
04:31I do have concerns about the goaltending.
04:33I do think they have the best coach in the league.
04:35But I, I think that they lost quite a few big pieces, but it was pieces from a blue
04:41line that was kind of stacked.
04:44And now they just have a regular blue line.
04:46But still, a lot of very good, very talented players.
04:49So I have Carolina going over 100, yeah, 100.5.
04:53Columbus there was no win total for.
04:55I think there's some pretty obvious distractions out in Columbus given everything that happened
05:01with Johnny Goudreau.
05:03I think that this could be a very difficult year for them.
05:06I was a little skeptical on the team anyway.
05:10And then all of that happened.
05:13And so I just, I, you can absolutely understand it, but I don't think this is going to be
05:18a great year out, out in Columbus.
05:22I mean, yeah, like it's, it is a very difficult situation and it feels good to be analyzing
05:30what Johnny Goudreau not being there means from a hockey standpoint.
05:35Because it's obviously a very emotional, very raw story.
05:38But I mean, again, from a hockey standpoint, like, he's not going to be there.
05:42Lainey is gone.
05:44Monaghan is there, but he's been banged up.
05:46I like a lot of the young pieces, but I think this kind of, I think things have shifted
05:52dramatically out there.
05:53For very, very obvious reasons.
05:55The Detroit Red Wings.
05:56I have them over 89.5.
05:58They were right there on the cusp of a playoff spot last year.
06:01I like so many of their pieces.
06:03And I get, they have had a contentious offseason with some of their players as well.
06:08But there is, I just think, so much young talent on this hockey team.
06:12Debrinkit, that start that he got off to last year.
06:15And then things cooled off a little bit, but I do think that there is a lot of really high
06:18end talent with this group, and I think they're going to be able to finally break through
06:23and make it back into the postseason.
06:25The Florida Panthers.
06:26Their total is at 101.5.
06:28I have them going over that.
06:30I get that they lost Montour, I get that their offseason was like 45 minutes, and so maybe
06:35there is a bit of a hangover, and they kind of go the Kansas City Chief route from last
06:39year where, yeah, we're just going to, let's just get in.
06:42Let's not, we're not going to battle for the President's Trophy or anything like
06:46that.
06:47Let's just kind of ease our way in, make sure we can make it into the playoffs and
06:49then do our damage there.
06:50But they still have a very good goaltending situation, obviously.
06:55Ekblad and Forsling aren't gone, Montour leaving does suck, but this is still an incredibly
07:00deep forward group as well with Kachuk, Verhege, Barkov, all of those guys.
07:05So, this is still a team that is not to be messed with.
07:08And still one of the best teams in the National Hockey League.
07:11I mean, like in the previews before here, having them as the most talented team in the
07:16NHL.
07:18Kind of have to pick over on them, don't I?
07:20Up next, Montreal.
07:21I have them going over.
07:23Admittedly.
07:24Throughout the entire preview process, been banging the drum on Montreal, and today was
07:28going to be the big like, yeah, this team, this team is for real, here we go.
07:32But losing Lionne and Reinbacher and the injuries that they have had so far does kind of slow
07:38that momentum down a little bit.
07:40But I do still think that there is another level that Caulfield can get to, and I do
07:44still think that, assuming Jacai doesn't get suspended for the year for violently attacking
07:51everyone who he plays against in the preseason, I do think that there are steps that are going
07:56to be made from their blue line.
07:59The biggest key is going to be in goal.
08:01One of those guys has to figure it out.
08:04And like, I think they were getting there.
08:06Like I think they have put together some pretty good performances, but I do think one of those
08:10guys kind of needs to figure it out now.
08:12Up next, it is the New Jersey Devils.
08:14I have them going over 100.5.
08:16I have said before that this team, again, they add Shea, they add Markstrom, Hughes
08:20with that injury before preseason started sucks, but I mean, the offensive talent is
08:27OBVIOUSLY there.
08:28They just couldn't get any stops last year, and they gave up a boatload of scoring opportunities.
08:33Well now Ducky Hamilton's back, Brady Shea is there, and Jacob Markstrom should be awesome.
08:38So I'm going to go over 100.5 on the Devils.
08:42Next it's the Islanders at 91.5.
08:45I continue to underestimate this team, and that rolls into this season as well.
08:51Because I just, and it's basically the exact same team as last year.
08:57And I still just don't see it.
08:59And I think part of what happened last year is that this is, it's not a veteran group,
09:03but it is a well-tested organization.
09:07And as the games started to get a little bit more important, and all of a sudden Detroit's
09:11dropping big games.
09:12And Montreal is dropping, or not Montreal, sorry, but Buffalo's dropping big games.
09:16And all of those teams, they just kind of stayed the course.
09:19And so this isn't so much a, I think the Islanders are going to fall off, but I do think, like
09:23Detroit's better.
09:24Obviously I think Montreal's going to be better.
09:25I think the Devils are going to be better.
09:26And so I just think a few teams have kind of leapfrogged them a little bit, and that's
09:30going to knock them back.
09:31They do have pieces I like.
09:32Like Barcel is really fun.
09:33Bo Horvat, I would take him on my team a million times out of ten.
09:37I am a huge fan of his.
09:38And they have a couple guys on the blue line that you like as well.
09:41But I'm just, I'm not there with them.
09:43Up next, it is the New York Rangers.
09:46Their total is at 100.5.
09:48I am there with this Rangers team.
09:52And we talked about it, I think one of the keys for this group this year is going to
09:55be the play of Kapo Kako.
09:57If he can be someone who we all thought he was going to be when he was taken in the,
10:02he was second overall, right?
10:03I think that this is all of a sudden an incredibly dynamic team.
10:07It already is.
10:08You know the big pieces, right?

13:29I think that there is going to be… not that, like, I mean, you have Hedman, Pointe, and
13:33Kucherov.
13:34There's still a lot of leadership there.
13:36John Cooper can kind of be an arrogant prick, but I think he is one of the best coaches
13:41in the NHL too.
13:42So, there is a lot there.
13:43But I do think, losing Stamkos and Sergachev, and replacing them with Gensel and McDonough,
13:48like, I just…
13:49I view both of those as L's.
13:51And this is why I talked about them in the I'm Worried I'm Wrong About Them, um,
13:56Things I'm Worried About episode, because I could be, right?
14:00Like, Gensel could be the perfect fit with Kucherov and Pointe, and just score 80 billion
14:04goals, and this team is going to ride off into prominence.
14:07And McDonough, back where he is comfortable, out in Tampa Bay, isn't going to have maybe
14:12a bit of a fall-off that I expected, and he is going to fit perfectly with what this team
14:15does.
14:16And Varlamov, er, sorry, not Varlamov, Vasilevsky, is going to be just one of the bright shining
14:21stars of the league one more time, and this team is going to ride off to 110 points, and
14:26threaten for the President's Trophy.
14:27Maybe all of that happens.
14:29I just don't think so.
14:30I think that their, like, losing your captain for a billion years, and emotional leader
14:34in Stephen Stamkos, and a guy who has scored 40 goals in two of the last three years, and
14:39replacing him with Jake Gensel, is a loss.
14:41And I think Gensel's a fine player, but I don't think he's that guy.
14:44And then losing the athleticism and the skating ability that Sergachev has, and replacing
14:47it with a relatively expensive Sean McDonough, Ryan McDonough, doesn't help either.
14:53So I think Tampa Bay takes a step back this year.
14:55I have them under 99 and a half.
14:58The Toronto Maple Leafs, at 102.5 points, I...
15:04I went back and forth on this one a lot.
15:06Because on the one hand, every year when we go into the regular season, the last viewing
15:10experience of the Leafs has been bad.
15:13Because the playoffs were bad.
15:15I also think that giving a long-term contract to Tanev is the slightest bit of insane.
15:19And also, there's the whole Mitch Marner... thing.
15:23Going on there.
15:24They switched captains this year.
15:26Which is never awkward.
15:28And so there's just a lot of noise going on.
15:30That being said, the additions they made on the blue line, while maybe not the best for
15:33the long-term security of this franchise, I think makes them better this year.
15:38And I think does improve the blue line.
15:39And this is the last go at it for this team, with the core 4 or 5 or whatever you want
15:46to say.
15:47And I do think that wall between the pipes is fine.
15:52So I do think that there are a few reasons for optimism.
15:56The one thing you can say about the Leafs, they're pretty good in the regular season.
16:01So I am going over 102.5 for this Toronto Maple Leafs team.
16:05I do think the additions they made are enough to get them at least into the postseason.
16:10And then finally, we close out the NHL preview on the Eastern Conference side with the Washington
16:15Capitals.

19:54Now he wasn't giving you a whole lot, but he was still there.
19:57And so you had all of those pieces.
19:59This blue line is not the blue line of a 500 hockey team.
20:04And while I do think that there is a scenario where Wolff and Vladar are just great, and
20:11they maybe steal a few, I think you are asking a lot of this team to assume that they're
20:17going to get to 500.
20:19Maybe they don't just totally bottom out, but 82 points for this group?
20:23I do not see it.
20:25So I am going under on the Flames at 81 and a half.
20:28At Chicago, 73 and a half.
20:30I have them over this year.
20:32I think that Conor Bedard showed last year he is special, everything that we thought
20:36about him, he is.
20:37They went out, they're basically acquiring Taylor Hall again, because he missed basically
20:42all of last season with that injury.
20:44They acquire Bertuzzi, they just bring in a few more like actual NHL players to hang
20:50out on this roster.
20:51And so goaltending could still be a concern, but I think that they do take a step this
20:55year.
20:56At 102 and a half points, this was one I went back and forth on a little bit.
21:01And if for no other reason than when I went over my central after, a lot of overs.

21:20For Colorado, the downsides are pretty obvious.
21:27Landis Cog issues, goaltending we don't trust, and those sorts of things.
21:31But the upside is they have one of the three best players in the world in Nathan McKinnon,
21:35they have one of the five or six best players in the world in Kahle McCarr, they have the
21:39best defensive pairing in the league with McCarr and Taves, and they're just kind of
21:43awesome.
21:44So I do think that this will be a team that gets over 102 and a half points this year.
21:48The Dallas Stars, their total is 102 and a half as well.
21:51I have them also going over.
21:54So again, the central has a lot of points, a couple teams that are going to get beat
21:57up on.
21:58We'll talk about them in a second.
21:59But I think that this is a Dallas Stars team that, yes, it could be another year of regression
22:06for some of the older guys, but now a full season with all of those young kids, the Johnstons,
22:11the Stankovans, all those guys, kind of pushing that forward, and Ottinger continuing to show
22:17progress and growth, or just staying great.
22:20I think either way, makes this one of the best teams in the National Hockey League.
22:25And I think Heiskinen is criminally underrated.
22:28Losing Tanev is a bit of a blow from the playoff team from last year, and I don't think they
22:33really replaced him that well, but there's still enough talent on this team to get them
22:37pretty far.
22:38Edmonton, their total is at 108.5, by far the biggest point total in the NHL totals
22:46this season.
22:47I have to go under on that.
22:49I just… to assume a team gets to 110 points, basically, is just a lot.
22:56And I get, like, they figured it out last year.
23:00And I know some people have been a little bit questioning of the offseason, and it's
23:03not… it didn't end great with Holloway and Broberg on their way to St. Louis, but
23:10I still think adding Skinner, adding Arvidsson, those are some smart moves.
23:14And so I do think this is going to be a good hockey team.
23:17But 109 points is insane.
23:19To assume, anyway.

24:43And this offense, like there's a lot of pieces to like on this team.
24:46They got super banged up a year ago, and so I think that just health is going to help
24:51get them to this point, or to over 94 and a half here this year.
24:57Um, Nashville.
25:00Their total is at 99 and a half.
25:01I can't, in all good conscience, or just for continuity, go off about how Tampa Bay
25:07lost Steven Samkos, and how that's going to hurt their season, and then say Nashville
25:11brought in Samkos.
25:12And no, that's not going to mean anything.
25:13No.
25:14I think it's going to mean something.
25:15I think that this team went very far, considering they had EXACTLY one line that you were worried
25:22about with Forsberg, Nyquist, and then whoever.
25:26And now, to go out and acquire Samkos and Marcheseau, to basically just build a second
25:32line, they are a little soft down the middle, and that is a bit of a concern.
25:36But there is, with Forsberg, and Nyquist, and Samkos, and Marcheseau, and still, Roman
25:42freaking Yossi back there on the blue line, there is still, I think, a lot to be excited
25:48about with this team this year.
25:51And they are clearly going for it.
25:53So, I think that this is really going to be a team that takes a step.
25:59Uh, San Jose.
26:00I have them under 64 and a half.
26:02I think this is going to be similar to the Chicago Bears, what we kind of predicted for
26:05them.
26:06Now, that hasn't necessarily turned out.
26:08But they're going to take steps forward, but maybe it's not going to show so much
26:12in the standings.
26:13It's going to be more of an on-ice thing, like, okay, you feel better about this.
26:17They did go out and acquire some actual NHL players, which helps.
26:20But I still think that there is a severe lack of talent on this team that is going to, I
26:25think, hold them back quite a bit.
26:27Now, you'll even get to 65 points to hit the over on this, but I still think it's
26:30going to be under on that group.
26:32Seattle.
26:33I don't necessarily love the long-term contracts they handed out, but I do think, again, Montour
26:38and Stevenson make them better this year.
26:40And those are two guys, like, proven commodities in the postseason, and all of those things.
26:45And like Stevenson, I have long said, that's just a dude you win with.
26:49So I think that there is a lot to be, a lot to be excited about in Seattle, honestly.
26:54If Biniers can take, maybe have a bounce back from what happened a season ago.
26:59They have still quite a few very good players.
27:01It's just built out to be a bit of a deeper team.
27:05Goaltending maybe, but defensively, excellent hockey team.
27:09And adding Stevenson, I think, does boost them over that 88 and a half.
27:13St. Louis Blues.
27:14I have them under 87 and a half.
27:17They are a team that feels like they are kind of stuck in the middle.
27:20And going out and getting Broberg and Holloway, I think, help quite a bit.
27:23But I just, you look at the rest of that Central Division, and it is TOUGH, man.
27:30We just talked about how Nashville got better.
27:31Dallas is still really good.
27:32Colorado is still really good.
27:34Anticipating a better year for Minnesota based on health.
27:37They're gonna be good.
27:38Utah, I think, takes a couple of steps forward this year.
27:41Winnipeg is still challenging.
27:43And the Chicago Blackhawks were expecting to take a step.
27:46I think, that kind of similar to Philadelphia over on the East, I think here in the West,
27:51St. Louis has a real challenge on their hands with just there being a lot of very good teams
27:58around them.
27:59And some of your kind of core pieces may be starting to fade a little bit.
28:04And so, I think, I kind of think this is gonna be a really, really long year out in St. Louis.
28:10So I have them under 87 and a half.
28:12And honestly, probably substantially.
28:14The Utah Jazz, I have them at over 88 and a half.
28:17Talked about it before.
28:18I think that this is a team that 100% takes a big step this year.
28:24I think they were ready to take one last year, and then all the uncertainty of last year
28:27really sent things spiraling.
28:29And they go out and acquire Sergeyev, they have a new home, they have so much talent
28:33that you can be excited about.
28:34I think that this is the year that the Utah team takes the step that a lot of people thought
28:40Arizona was going to a season ago.
28:42Vancouver, I have them under 99 and a half.
28:44The goaltending situation with Demko and injuries and all of that just scares me off of it a
28:50little bit.
28:51I still think they needed to do a little bit more on the blue line.
28:54Adding DeBrusque to this forward group is actually quite intriguing to me, and I think
28:59does make this a little bit fun for what this team can be offensively, but I think
29:04that defensively they're just not quite there, even though I do love Quinn Hughes.
29:08But the goaltending situation, the health of Demko, and the long term whatever of all
29:13of that, I just have some concerns.
29:15So I do have Vancouver slightly under 99 and a half.
29:18Vegas, I have them over 97 and a half.
29:21I think the way last season ended is leaving a bit of a sour taste in some people's
29:26mouths.
29:27Losing Marchessault and Stevenson is a hit, no question about it.
29:31They still have Eichel, and Hannafin, and Stone, and Petrangelo, and Theodore.
29:36Like it goes on and on and on, like this is a really really talented team.
29:39It is not a deep team.
29:41That obvious.
29:43Not a deep team.
29:44But this is a group that has a lot of high end skill, and so I just can't bet against
29:50them.
29:51I have them over 97 and a half.
29:53And Winnipeg!
29:54I have them over 96 and a half.
29:56And I want it to not, but I just, again, a very talented roster.
30:02And with Scheifele, Perfetti, Ehlers, Conor, all those guys up front, Morrissey I think
30:08still doesn't get talked enough about his play on the blue line.
30:11And Conor Hellbuck between the pipes when he is on, one of the best goalies in the league.
30:15Again, it ended very poorly out of Winnipeg last year, but I think there is, for regular
30:19season purposes anyway, I think this team is going to be alright.
30:23Before we get into the playoff talk here, Deeds, there isn't going to be any fantasy
30:29stuff on this episode.
30:30It's just going to be NHL and then a little bit of UFC to put a bow on the episode today.
30:35So apologies, but no fantasy football conversations here today.
30:40I guess if you do want some fantasy talk, ask away your fantasy football questions or
30:46anything, and I can get to it at the end of the show.
30:50But nothing is scheduled for today anyway.
30:52But if you want, if you have something, anything you want to talk about, anything, any whatever

31:01Hockey playoffs now.
31:03This is what I have for my predictions.
31:05So in the East, I have Atlanta, or in the Atlantic, I have Florida finishing first.
31:11I have them playing the wildcard team of Boston in the first round.
31:16My Atlantic 2-3 is Toronto against Detroit.
31:20I think Detroit is ahead of Boston and they get into this 2-3 matchup.
31:26I have the number one team in the Metro as the New Jersey Devils.
31:29I have them playing the wildcard team of Montreal.
31:33This is basically just me being take committed at this point and just like, no, I've been
31:38saying all year that they're going to take a step.
31:40I don't care that half of their roster got injured in like two preseason games.
31:44I have to stick with it.
31:45So I think that Montreal does get there.
31:48And then the 2-3 in the Metro is the Rangers and the Carolina Hurricanes.
31:53Coming out of that, it would be Florida with the win over Boston.
31:58I think, honestly, probably pretty handily, I think Toronto does beat Detroit in the first
32:03round of the playoffs and then the Devils and Rangers win.
32:06So it'd be Florida against Toronto, the Devils against the Rangers.
32:09This is where Toronto Toronto's and they lose to Florida.
32:11I have them against the Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final, and I have the New York
32:15Rangers on their way to the Stanley Cup.
32:19Out West, my number one team in the Central, the Dallas Stars.
32:22I have them facing Seattle as a wildcard team.
32:25The 2-3 matchup in the Central is Nashville against Colorado.
32:29In the Pacific, I have Vegas as the number one team.
32:34I have them facing the wildcard team of Minnesota and the 2-3 being Edmonton against Vancouver.
32:40So we get a rematch of that playoff series.
32:43And we get the same result.
32:44I have Edmonton beating Vancouver again.
32:46They would face Vegas in the next round, and Dallas takes on Nashville.
32:50In the Western Conference Final, I have Nashville facing the Vegas Golden Knights.
32:55Vegas moves on to the Stanley Cup Final, where they would face the New York Rangers, and
33:00eventually lose to the New York Rangers.
33:02I have the blue shirts, the team from Broadway, as the Stanley Cup champions this year, as
33:09the trophy gets hoisted in Madison Square Garden for the first time in, by that point,
33:1441 years.
33:15So that is my, or I guess those are my official predictions for the NHL season here in 2024-2025.
33:26Let's move on to the fight world.
33:28Let's put a bow on this show today, looking at UFC 307.
33:31Yesterday, we talked about the main event fighters that you need to watch out for.
33:35Today, or the storylines going into those fights, anyway.
33:38Today, we are looking at the undercard fighters.
33:41Who isn't getting that main event spotlight, but should still get some attention going
33:46into the fight in Salt Lake City this weekend?
33:48Let's talk about it.
33:58UFC 307 goes down this weekend from Salt Lake City, Utah.
34:02In the main event, it is Alex Pereira defending his light heavyweight championship against
34:07number 7 contender, some crazy how, Khalil Roundtree.
34:11And while Pereira is obviously a big spotlight fighter, and then in the co-main with Raquel
34:16Paddington against Julianna Pena, a couple fighters from the Ultimate Fighter, there's
34:20a rivalry, a lot of talk, so a lot of spotlight on them.
34:23But there are some other fighters on this undercard that we should be paying attention
34:26to.
34:27So we're going to give you 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 today that we should be watching for.
34:31The first one, he's a legend.
34:33It's José Aldo.
34:34Coming off of a win in his last fight, he is still genuinely one of the best fighters
34:39this sport has ever seen.
34:42And no, it is not the same as when he was kicking Uriah Faber's leg off in WEC on their
34:47only pay-per-view.
34:49And no, it is not the same when he was running through everyone en route to a giant clash
34:53with Conor McGregor, when he probably definitely should have got a rematch against Conor McGregor
34:57after that fight, but is what it is.
34:59But it is still a legend, and it is still someone who I think has kind of matured in
35:03this fight game to understand what his strengths and weaknesses are in 2024.
35:08And so, another opportunity to see one of the all-time greats.
35:12You have to take that chance.
35:14The next fight, or this one is the full fight that I think we should really be paying attention
35:18to.
35:19It is Ketlin Vera against Kayla Harrison.
35:21I think the UFC is hoping that Harrison gets a win here, setting up a title opportunity
35:25against either Peña or Pennington, depending on how that fight goes.
35:30Harrison obviously coming with a lot of fanfare from the PFL, um, although not undefeated
35:35after losing her second last bout in the Professional Fight League, but she comes in, dominates
35:41Holly Holm, and they are trying to I think fast-track her.
35:45For Vera, she's, I think she's won two of her last three, so I don't think she gets
35:50rocketed into a title opportunity if she picks up a win, although this would be a gigantic
35:54win over Kayla Harrison.
35:57Harrison is legitimately, she was probably the best fighter, not in the Ultimate Fighting
36:01Championship until that changed, and she signed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and
36:05now she's one of the best fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and resume-wise
36:09would be very deserving of a title shot coming off of this one.
36:12Joaquin Buckley is the next one, has won four in a row.
36:15He gets an interesting test against Steven Wonderboy Thompson.
36:18This would be the biggest name that Buckley has beaten so far.
36:22He does have a couple of good fights on a four-fight winning streak here, but this would
36:26be a gigantic name for him, and put him, this isn't one where, oh and he would rocket
36:33his way into a championship opportunity, or anything like that, but I do think that this
36:38would put him in line for a very big fight, probably to start 2025, and put him in a,
36:45okay, this is maybe a guy we need to watch going into next year.
36:50And the last one, Carla Esparza.
36:52Retirement fight against Tisha Pennington.
36:54These two, I don't know how their paths haven't crossed aside from a quarterfinal fight on
36:59the Ultimate Fighter, but this is the retirement fight for Carla Esparza against Tisha Pennington,
37:04formerly Tisha Torres.
37:06This is, it's an amazing career that Carla Esparza is going to be leaving behind, and
37:12an amazing legacy that she kind of, again, leaps here in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
37:18It's great that she was able to get this spotlight with the Ultimate Fighter when that was still
37:23a thing, and then moving into the world of the UFC as a champion.
37:30And then this last little act here, where she was able to maybe get a couple beneficial
37:36matches along the way, and that helped her out.
37:39But still, put her in a position to go back and win another championship, it's really
37:43really cool to see her getting this spotlight one more time.
37:46And a fight with Tisha Pennington, a couple of, Esparza, a couple of, I don't want to
37:51say legends, but a couple of fighters who have really paved the way for this kind of
37:55next generation of fighters to come.
37:57So a very interesting fight here, to round out UFC 307.
38:01So those are some of the fighters you should be watching for, coming up here on Saturday
38:05in Salt Lake City.
38:06Alright, Deeds is asking a fantasy football question, so let's go to Talk Some Football.
38:11Alright, Deeds is asking in the chat, do we flex Brandon Ayuk or Kareem Hunt this week?
38:23I think you have to go with Kareem Hunt.
38:25I think that he has a real big opportunity out there in Kansas City right now, with the
38:33injuries that have happened, and just being in that offense.
38:36And again, being in that offense isn't the same as it was when he was there the first
38:40time.
38:41But I think the opportunities are going to be there.
38:43For Ayuk, they just clearly haven't been.
38:46And so from a talent standpoint, you would assume that Brandon Ayuk on the 49ers, you
38:51would want him over the guy who was on his couch two weeks ago.
38:54But I think the opportunity is there, and obviously Kareem Hunt is the weight, um, is,
39:03he's different than what we saw last year.
39:04He's coming off of an injury last year that I think kind of held him up a little bit.
39:08And so I think we saw last week what this guy can be, and actually how good he can be.
39:13And so I think that when you look at the injuries that are there, and how Steele kind of fumbled
39:20that job away, I think it'll be, at least this week anyway, Hunt and P. Ryan, to be
39:27a couple of interesting pieces.
39:28And I think we're going to see at times both of them, because they just don't have the
39:31pass catchers out there, to just leave talented players on the sideline.
39:36So when you look at the creativity of Andy Reid, the talent of Patrick Mahomes, and quite
39:41frankly the talent of Kareem Hunt, I think you have to look at Hunt as an option in this
39:48week.
39:49And yeah, to your point, he looks like he's an RB1 this week, quite frankly.
39:52He is looking like a guy, especially now that we're into bye weeks, he's looking like a
39:55guy that you can feel really comfortable with, not even just in a flex, but in a running
40:01back spot.
40:02He was available, I think, in 37% of leagues.
40:04I would imagine that changed rather aggressively as the waiver period has kind of wrapped up.
40:11But yeah, I think I would go with Hunt there, Deeds.
40:15As you look to bounce back from almost losing to me last week.
40:18You know what?
40:19Vampire League, though, I'm feeling confident this week that I'm going to be able to get
40:23my first win here as I'm facing Geno.
40:25I have my highest projected points of the year, so let's see if we can go out and get
40:29a dub in the Vampire League this week.
