00:00Welcome, everyone, to Couch Potato Diary.
00:07It's another week.
00:08Thank you all so much for tuning in today.
00:13As always, thank you to Deeds and Toxic hanging out in the chat.
00:17If you guys have any questions, or anyone hanging out in the chat have any questions,
00:21let me know.
00:22And, yeah, we're kind of, you know, I'm not going to do the full NFL rundown the way we've
00:26been doing it.
00:27We're going to talk about every team tomorrow on the Power Rankings.
00:29So today is just going to be some of the bigger stories.
00:31We're kind of combining Monday and Tuesday, since Monday was the holiday.
00:35So, we're going to talk about the main NFL stories, and then we will get into fantasy
00:41football talk with the Waver Wire, looking at the Dumpster Darlings for the week, and
00:47things like that.
00:48So, as always, yes, we will be talking a little bit about the Calgary Flames here in a little
00:54bit.
00:55As the preseason winds down, all of a sudden, we are getting more and more into, like, okay,
01:03this is actually going to be happening now.
01:07So, we'll get into the Flames, probably to close the show today.
01:11But if you have any Flames questions, by all means, let me know in the chat, because today
01:14it was...
01:15Honestly, today was like, okay, I should talk Flames.
01:18What's there to talk about right now?
01:20So, give me a couple of hints in the chat, and we'll get that going as this show rolls
01:26along.
01:27But, yes, let's start the day now talking about the National Football League.
01:36Alright, I think there are a few big stories coming out of week four in the NFL.
01:41I think the biggest one is cause for concern out in Philadelphia.
01:48This was a team that I had a lot of high expectations for.
01:53And I think this was also a team that had a lot of pressure on them coming into this
01:56season based off of how two seasons ago went, and then how last season went.
02:01And so now, you have to show that last season was kind of the outlier, especially how that
02:06ended.
02:07You have to show that that was the outlier, and the one before that is the one that this
02:11team really is.
02:12And through two weeks, or through four weeks, sorry, it really seems like last year was
02:17kind of what this team is.
02:20It was an awful performance against Tampa Bay.
02:22Just absolutely brutal.
02:24And I think you can explain away a lot of the stuff on offense just with, well, no AJ
02:30Brown, no Devonta Smith.
02:32That's gonna, any team loses those types of weapons, it's gonna set them back.
02:35But also, you still have, as we talked about last week, you still have Goddard, you still
02:39have Saquon Barkley.
02:41They went out and acquired Jahan Dotson to be a number three receiver.
02:44I get having him be the number one is not ideal, but it's not like this team is still
02:48devoid of talent.
02:50And also, if Jalen Hurts is going to be that guy and be the big money quarterback, you
02:56kind of need to be able to beat Tampa Bay.
02:59You have to look better than Bo Nix looked last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
03:04I thought it was just dreadful.
03:05But the big issue is how bad this defense was.
03:09They got throttled in this matchup.
03:13Their defensive line, after one week of looking pretty good against New Orleans last week,
03:18the defensive line now looks like it is a problem again out in Philadelphia.
03:22And the big thing is, like, Sirianni just did not have this team ready to play.
03:26And I, if this trends even remotely further, the way this is going, then I think that he
03:34is probably out of a job.
03:35Looking at it now, they're in a bye week next week, so at least a stay of execution there.
03:40And then after that, they take on the... why am I not seeing this?
03:46It's an eagle.
03:47How can you not see an eagle?
03:48Oh, they play the Cleveland Browns in Philadelphia.
03:50So, if you lose that game, you're gone.
03:53You're fired.
03:54Right?
03:55So, Sirianni certainly on the hot seat.
03:56Speaking of coaches who may need to find other employment soon, the New York Jets take a
04:01major step back against the Denver Broncos.
04:04And I will admit, like, we went over on the power rankings on Wednesday.
04:08I was duped.
04:10I believed when I shouldn't have believed that this is probably still a playoff team,
04:14just based off of the AFC.
04:16And this is still a talented roster.
04:18But to consider them contenders, to consider them as I had them a top five team in the
04:23NFL, is asinine.
04:24That was a horrendous loss.
04:26And spare me the, it was rainy and cold.
04:31You play in New York, guys.
04:33We don't take four months off and then you get to play the playoffs in July, okay?
04:39It's not going to get better, the weather situation, as the season goes on.
04:44So A, if it's a problem now, fix it, because you're going to have to deal with it.
04:49B, number two, whatever thing you want to use to list the items, the weather is the
04:57same for both.
04:58And if you were to tell me, before this game, that you get Aaron Rodgers in the Elements
05:03against Bo Nix, I will take that a thousand times out of ten.
05:08Aaron Rodgers, the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin, playing all of
05:14those playoff games so they didn't lose at home for a century, he has played in the Elements
05:19before.
05:20Bo Nix sucks, and he's just out of college, so don't give me the, well, it was the weather.
05:27Because you have Aaron Rodgers, one of the best bad weather quarterbacks in the league,
05:31against a kid, and you also had three extra days to prepare.
05:36Just an abysmal loss for the New York Jets.
05:39And the penalties were the killer for this team.
05:43And then Robert Salah, after the game, saying, oh, well, maybe we need to change the hard
05:46count up.
05:47I am not usually on Aaron Rodgers' side on many things, but for Rodgers to come out and
05:53say, or maybe it's time to hold guys accountable, was the perfect response to that.
05:56And the perfect way to handle that sort of a situation.
05:59And he's right.
06:00This team has not held its players accountable for a really long time.
06:04And they need to really get this thing on track.
06:08And it is not by Aaron Rodgers changing how he does things to fit the rest of this team.
06:14Also, you look at who was taking the penalties, it wasn't the rookie left tackle.
06:18If anyone should be having trouble with the hard count, it would be that kid.
06:22So it wasn't him.
06:23So no, this is, um, I have tried to give Robert Salah the benefit of the doubt, because he
06:29seems fun, right?
06:30You know, you like the energetic guy on the sidelines, you like a guy getting fired up.
06:34And also, and I think this is a bigger picture NFL thing to talk about maybe on a, um, at
06:39a quieter time, but every, every team is looking for the same thing in a coach.
06:45And I liked that they kind of went outside the lines and went for the defensive guru
06:49guy to go out there and try to be a little bit different.
06:52And so I wanted it to work, but it's just, it's not, it's not working.
06:55I don't think it's going to work.
06:57And I think the Jets are going to be worse because of it.
07:01In terms of teams who played well, I think if we all watched the preview show on Friday,
07:06we have a pretty good understanding that I was not necessarily anticipating that kind
07:10of a showing from the Baltimore Ravens.
07:14That was impressive as hell.
07:15A very good showing over the Buffalo Bills and a really dominant performance by them.
07:23Eric Henry, they, it seems like they've unlocked that now a little bit.
07:28And this is what is so tantalizing about this Baltimore team is that when it is clicking,
07:33it is so much fun to watch and it is so dominant and it can be so dominant.
07:39I do think that from a Bill standpoint, this was a little bit of a reminder that they have
07:44been playing very well to start the year.
07:47But this hasn't really been like, this is still a roster that has some issues.
07:52This is still a team that has some injury problems and it is just not a complete unit
07:58right now for Buffalo.
08:00And so I think that that is something that was just, it was a nice reminder here.
08:06Kay Rimney or Crimney, I will get to the fantasy question here in just a moment.
08:11Detroit reminding us that they're still really good.
08:15We have had some concerns about them for the last couple of weeks, but I think that Seattle
08:19is a really good defense and they kind of torched them a little bit.
08:26They played really well.
08:27Jared Goff, like it was a perfect performance that was unbelievable.
08:30And so for him to do that, I think showed he's legit.
08:33But I do think that this kind of showed that Seattle, maybe not on that championship tier,
08:37but Seattle is a threat.
08:39And right now, Seattle looks like the best team in the NFC West.
08:44Right?
08:45Yeah.
08:46West.
08:47I don't know why I blanked on that for a second.
08:49But yeah, they look like they are legit too.
08:50The Packers, another very, or sorry, the Vikings, another very impressive performance on Sunday.
08:55The defense lets up a little bit, allows Green Bay back into this game.
08:58But Brian Flores is an unbelievable defensive coach and he has done such a great job out
09:03there in Minnesota.
09:04And Sam Darnold, I don't think it's going to continue at an MVP pace.
09:08I am very interested to see how they handle things going over to face the Jets on Sunday
09:13morning over in England.
09:15But I do think that Sam Darnold is someone that is finally figuring out the right situation
09:22for him.
09:23And that's been really exciting.
09:24And I think the Packers, this is the one where it's like, okay, this Packers defense, we've
09:29had a couple like, are they?
09:30Aren't they?
09:31Are they?
09:32Aren't they?
09:33I have now declared my flag in the ground.
09:34The Packers defense is mint at best.
09:37So I know you've all been waiting for that.
09:38A couple more, Commando's offense is a wagon.
09:41We knew that coming in.
09:42But Jaden Daniels, like you just watch him.
09:44He is gliding out on the football field.
09:47And the arm strength that he has, and the accuracy, and all of that, like, it is a complete
09:54package what you are seeing with him right now.
09:57And that has been just a delight to watch.
10:00And it just, it's very exciting.
10:02And yes, like, this was against Arizona, who isn't that great of a defense.
10:06But to do that against anyone is really, really impressive.
10:11So Commandos have to move up in our mental whatever for the NFL here going forward.
10:17And the last one, I was duped again week one by the LA Rams against the Detroit Lions for
10:24how good I thought they did and how well they hung with that team.
10:28Yes, it's injuries, whatever.
10:29But I need to get back to my preseason assumption that the Rams aren't shit.
10:33So that is a miss by me.
10:36And oops.
10:37On that one.
10:38I'm going to hit the talking football thing again, and we'll get into the fantasy football
10:42discussion.
10:43All right, Krimny, or K-Rim-ny, or K-Rim-ny, has said, what do you think about Diggs for
10:56Montgomery and Shaheed?
10:59I was not on the Diggs bandwagon to start this year.
11:05And I feel like as this offense continues to progress, that maybe he is not going to
11:11be as big of a part of it.
11:12I do like that they are trying to get him involved right now.
11:16But I feel like there's been a couple of times where, oh, if Dell makes a play or if someone
11:18else makes a play, then maybe there isn't a Diggs thing.
11:21I feel like he could get pushed into being an afterthought.
11:25And so, Krimny, are you getting Diggs, or are you trading him away for Montgomery and
11:34Shaheed?
11:35I feel like this is a fairly fair trade, especially as we go now into the bye weeks, getting a
11:40little bit more depth.
11:41If you are trading away a Stefan Diggs and acquiring, so you would be getting Diggs.
11:47Okay.
11:48I still don't mind it.
11:49I know I was just kind of talking down Stefan Diggs.
11:51I still don't mind it.
11:53Montgomery, like, it was very obvious last night who the guy was in Detroit, right?
11:57So Montgomery is still going to get some, but that is maybe not necessarily as reliable
12:04a source of touches going forward.
12:07And Shaheed, I think looks awesome, and I think is really, really talented.
12:12And if Derek Carr gets a perfect pocket all the time, then I think there are going to
12:17be a lot of options for Shaheed.
12:18I don't think, though, that you worry about giving him up.
12:24And so, I think you are taking two pieces that are kind of like, oh, well, you know,
12:28if this, this, and this hits, then maybe.
12:31And getting Stefan Diggs, who I know I said could get pushed back in that offense, but
12:35it also feels like this offense is growing a little bit.
12:37So I will say, I would say do that.
12:39I would, I would go out and acquire a Diggs if that were the case.
12:42I don't think you're overpaying in that situation, and like, you're a Collins injury away from
12:47being right in there.
12:48Although, I mean, we just talked about that with the other two guys that you kind of need
12:51injuries for them.
12:52So maybe not the best point, but I do think I would, I would take that deal and I would
12:55be getting Diggs in that spot.
12:57Okay.
12:58As we get now into the fantasy football waiver wire, as we get now into the bi-week season,
13:05and we start to see, you know, okay, what kind of depth do we actually have?
13:10A few of these are going to be guys you can play right away.
13:13And a few of these are going to be guys that maybe you need to just kind of stash for a
13:17rainy day.
13:18At quarterback, this one is a bit more of a, if you are desperate play, it is Justin
13:22Fields, 32% owned.
13:24They'll be facing the Cowboys this week.
13:25And I do think that Dallas can be a tricky matchup for quarterbacks at times, but you
13:31look at how the Cowboys have struggled so far this season.
13:36Yes, Thursday night against Daniel Jones, like, okay, they gave up a lot of yards though.
13:41And I think that is something to keep an eye on.
13:44Before that, it was Baltimore and we all saw Baltimore just carve them up for, like, just
13:51absolutely destroyed them, right?
13:52So for three quarters anyway.
13:54And then before that, it was New Orleans.
13:56Okay, well, the Saints didn't punt, so they played pretty well.
14:00And then the week before that, yeah, they beat Cleveland.
14:03But I think we're starting to see, giving up 17 points to Cleveland is maybe a little
14:07bit more concerning than it should be.
14:09So I think that Justin Fields has an opportunity to put up some points this week.
14:13And so if you have a Jalen Hurts on a buy or something like that, I think that this
14:16is a fine pickup to help you out in that area.
14:20By the way, the cutoff that I have for these is 35% owned or fewer.
14:25So in some deeper leagues, or in some less deep leagues, a Geno Smith being available
14:30or something like that could be a real option for you as well.
14:33At running back, the first one here is Roshon Johnson.
14:3627% owned.
14:37He had 15 carries in the last two weeks.
14:38He gets the touchdown this week.
14:40And quite frankly, he looks like the best running back in Chicago.
14:44So that is the guy who I think that has the best opportunity, I think maybe of anyone
14:52on the WaferWire this week, to be a long-term solution, but also be someone who can help
14:56you out in a bit more of the immediate.
15:00At 24% owned, it's Samaje P. Ryan.
15:03Very quiet in the passing game this week, but he does get a gold-lined look, and that
15:06gets him into the end zone, which does kind of save his day a little bit.
15:09As Deeds, I don't know if Deeds is still hanging out in the chat, but Deeds knows that
15:12kind of saved him a little bit.
15:13Deeds has him, I think, on his bench.
15:15He and I were very...
15:16I almost got my first vampire there.
15:18We almost got there, but not quite.
15:22But still, P. Ryan, I think, is someone who has had some opportunities, because steals
15:28look bad, and it's a couple of fumbles now for steal, and it feels like he has been kind
15:33of pushed now into short-yardage, full-back, running back three territory.
15:37I think P. Ryan is always going to have a role in the passing game.
15:40Kareem Hunt looked fine.
15:42That is one that is available in a number of leagues.
15:44Ethically, I have an issue with picking him up.
15:48Maybe I'll do some googling to see how much he has kind of learned from that situation
15:52that he had a few years ago, but he does feel like he's going to get a bit more of the
15:55carries out there.
15:57And the last running back is Tyler Algier.
15:59He had 10 carries slash targets this week.
16:01Eight carries, two targets.
16:03He's not going to take Bijon's role, but there is a chance that he still gets his a little
16:08bit, and he is showing, like, he is still a talented running back.
16:12And I think right now for an Atlanta offense that still kind of feels a little stuck in
16:15the mud, they are going to need to just have as many talented people as they can.
16:21That was one thing we didn't talk about in the NFL rundown, but Atlanta, like, the final
16:24score looks better than it was.
16:26They got, I believe it was a pick six, and a muff punt for a touchdown, and then a bunch
16:31of field goals to help them win.
16:33So I wouldn't be taking Atlanta too seriously right now, but I think Algier has a chance
16:38in this offense.
16:39At wide receiver, Wandale Robinson, 27% owned.
16:42Even if Neighbors is healthy, he has had eight plus targets in three of four games.
16:46Now, those targets are coming from Daniel Jones, so, you know, concerns.
16:51But this is still, I think, someone who is just getting a whole lot of volume, and you
16:56have to understand that the floor could be zero.
16:59Like, this is not a, oh, just a nice little safe four points, let's just, let's just get
17:04it and move on.
17:05No, no, no, no, no, no.
17:06This could goose egg ya.
17:09And quite honestly, the ceiling ain't that high, but there is still a pretty good range
17:15in there where I think you can be successful with Wandale Robinson.
17:18Another one here, Michael Wilson, 17% owned.
17:2116 targets in the last two weeks combined.
17:23He, I haven't checked the snaps this week, but coming into this week, he was getting
17:27the second most amount of snaps in that wide receiver room, and so I think as Kyler Murray
17:32continues to get settled in and continues to get going, Wilson is going to continue
17:36to get his opportunities, and so I think that's a decent play.
17:39And the last one is Xavier Leggett, at 14% owned.
17:41He balled out with Thielen out last week.
17:44It's a really tough matchup against Chicago, so this is not a guy to play this week, I
17:48don't think at all, but I do think that this is a guy that will continue to show some value
17:54in this offense, because like, if he plays well in an Adam Thielen absence, for a team
18:01that probably isn't going anywhere, it makes more sense for this team to run out Leggett
18:05every week than it does to run out an Adam Thielen.
18:08So I think that this, now, keep an eye on the quarterback situation, obviously, but
18:12I think this is a player who is going to continue to get more opportunities as this season goes
18:16along.
18:17At tight end, we're throwing a dart, and this week it lands on Ty Conklin, 34% owned.
18:21He had 8 targets last week, we just talked about it, it was just an ugly game.
18:24On the defensive side, it is toxic.
18:26This is your time.
18:27You're asking for defenses.
18:28We got them for you.
18:3028% owned, the Seattle defense going up against the New York Giants.
18:36I know we just kind of talked up our boy Wanda Robinson there a little bit, but yeah, this
18:41defense is going to have a good time, I think, against the New York Giants this week.
18:46So a good one there.
18:47If you need a little bit more help, and they are taken, or whatever, Denver against the
18:51Las Vegas Raiders.
18:53The Raiders did finally put up some points this week against Cleveland, but Denver's
18:57defense looked pretty good, even in the elements against the Jets, and Vegas's offense continues
19:02to be bad.
19:05So that is the Fantasy Football Waiver Wire for the week.
19:09Let's move into, now, the Fantasy Dumpster Darlings.
19:13Each week, I go through the Fantasy schedule, and to see who had the best performances of
19:19the least owned players in the NFL, and we put together the Fantasy Football Dumpster
19:23Darlings.
19:24This week, our quarterback, 32% owned, so a little higher than we normally go.
19:28But Justin Fields, 32% owned, put up almost 32 fantasy points at 31.98.
19:34We balanced that, we were a little high at 32, but it doesn't get any lower than zero.
19:39And that is where Jeremy McNichols comes in.
19:410% owned, 19.9 fantasy points.
19:45Justice Hill, 15% owned.
19:48So people got real excited about our guy after week one, and then cut him immediately.
19:54But now he comes back up with another big performance, as he gets 18.6 fantasy points.
20:01Our wide receiver rune, Dontavian Wicks.
20:04Almost as many letters in his name as percentage owned, 15% owned, 22.3 fantasy points.
20:11Joshua Downs, 21% owned for the Indianapolis Colts.
20:16Joe Flacco comes in, has himself a day, and gets Jeter Downs to 18.2 fantasy points.
20:24After that, we have, at the tight end spot, Tucker Craft.
20:2814.3 fantasy points for the 6% of people who owned him.
20:34Our flex option, we just talked about him in the Waver Wire, it's Xavier Leguette.
20:3914% owned at 16.6 fantasy points.
20:44On defense, the Atlanta Falcons, 5% owned.
20:47Everyone's scared away by Derek Carr, and they come up with 17 fantasy points.
20:52And then our kicker, the number one kicker in all the land this week, was 1% owned.
20:58And it was Nick Folk at 24 fantasy points.
21:01So all of that together, let's add it up.
21:0331.98 with Justin Fields.
21:06He was our largest owned of the entire week.
21:10I should have done this before, but we got the calculator out.
21:13We are rocking and rolling with this one.
21:15Let's see what we come up with.
21:19Drumroll.
21:20I should have one, but I don't.
21:22And this is taking way too long, and I'm really sorry about all that.
21:26But it is going to be...
21:31Well, it's going to be a good total this week, too.
21:32182.88 fantasy points.
21:35So again, a team where Justin Fields is the biggest owned, and then after that, it's Josh Downs.
21:44Gets almost 190 fantasy points.
21:47So again, fantasy football, so cruel.
21:51So cruel.
21:52All right, it is time now to shift gears.
21:54We're fighting for our lives in fantasy, but there's going to be actual fights happening
21:58this weekend.
21:58It is UFC 307.
22:00In the main event, Alex Pereira defends his title again, which is about the best you can
22:05say about this card.
22:06But let's get into some early storylines with some fight talk.
22:18Into the UFC conversation we go now.
22:21And it is UFC 307 going down this weekend, as it is once again an opportunity to see
22:27one of the pound-for-pound greats of his time step into the octagon, as Alex Pereira, this
22:33time not in an effort to save a card or on short notice, gets a real actual training
22:39camp against a real actual opponent.
22:42Kind of, as he faces Khalil Rowntree in the main event for the UFC's Light Heavyweight
22:46Championship.
22:46In the co-main event, it is Giuliana Pena taking on Raquel Pennington as they fight
22:52for gold as well.
22:53So let's get into the early storylines.
22:55We begin with Alex Pereira, who honestly, like, I hope he is taking Khalil Rowntree
23:01much more seriously than I am.
23:03Because my first note is, Pereira needs to stay focused.
23:06This is not the bright lights of UFC 300.
23:08This is not the bright lights of a Madison Square Garden show that he has come in last
23:15minute and saved.
23:16This isn't International Fight Week that he is coming in and saving.
23:20This is just a regular-ass pay-per-view.
23:23It is a one after the spear.
23:25It is all of these things.
23:26And it's against an opponent that is probably, like, one of the worst he has faced in the
23:31UFC, to be perfectly frank.
23:33So, he needs to keep that focus and not think about any of those things that I just said.
23:39And just walk into that cage on Saturday and take care of business.
23:43He needs to be able to keep that momentum going.
23:45And this is like a few of the boxing ones that we have done of this, where we are already
23:49looking at what is next.
23:50And I am continuing to bang that drum, hoping that what is next is an opportunity in the
23:56heavyweight division.
23:57This is a guy who, yes, there are probably a couple other fights that he needs to take
24:02care of at 205 pounds.
24:03Rakic, Madrimov, a couple of those sorts of things.
24:08But this is someone who wants to go out and make history.
24:11And it's not like you have a heavyweight division that is beating down with contenders
24:15right now.
24:16You have two very old men, who haven't fought in a very long time, who will be fighting
24:20for your heavyweight championship next month.
24:24After that, you got a young stud who is knocking out every other contender on their way toward
24:29the heavyweight championship.
24:32So, I'm not saying Pereira needs to get a heavyweight title opportunity next.
24:35Although, fun.
24:36I am saying that his next fight, I think, should be at 265 pounds.
24:40That is my personal belief.
24:42For Roundtree, he seems like a weird challenger.
24:45He had his last fight cancelled because he tested positive for a banned substance.
24:51So the fight at UFC 303 gets pulled, and as punishment, he gets a championship opportunity.
24:57This is so weird.
24:59I was going to say, coming into this, that he feels like a mandatory challenger in boxing.
25:05But he doesn't even feel like that.
25:07This is beyond the scope of what I think a mandatory challenger in boxing would get.
25:13Honestly, this is kicking it old school a little bit.
25:16This is like the old Pride Grand Prix, where it's like, all right, well, it's the middleweight
25:19Grand Prix.
25:20We're not going to have the middleweight champion in.
25:22So he gets to face whoever, the 8th or 16th seat, or whatever they would do.
25:26And so he goes in there against some absolutely poor sucker to just get obliterated.
25:32That is honestly what this feels like right now.
25:35And so this is, I think you can tell I'm not taking Rountree overly seriously as a
25:41championship opposition.
25:43But Rountree has an opportunity to pull off what would be the wildest upset in the history
25:48of the sport.
25:49Like, this is, I think this would definitely be bigger than home Rousey.
25:54And it would be like, up there with Sarah against GSP.
25:57When you consider that Pereira could be a triple champ by the time this year, by the
26:04time next year is done.
26:06Someone who is a champion in three different weight classes, probably not at the same time.
26:09That would be tough.
26:10But someone who has at least made that kind of history.
26:13He is right now, pound for pound, on my pound for pound rankings, number two.
26:18And I think at worst, you could put him third.
26:20He's on an absolute tear.
26:22Rountree does, his last win was against Anthony Smith, who we are just starting to, like,
26:27is he still good?
26:28Is he not?
26:29Not exactly a number one contender type of a fight.
26:31So Rountree this weekend has a chance to shock the world in what I think would be the biggest
26:35upset in the history of the sport.
26:37Moving into the co-main event, also for a championship, as Giuliana Peña looks to get
26:41back the belt that she won for a second against Amanda Nunes.
26:44For Peña, it is put up or shut up.
26:46She has been trying to go the Chael Sonnen, Colby Covington, whatever route of being the
26:52trash talker and the, I'm going to play the heel.
26:54And she kind of sucks at it.
26:56And no one cares.
26:59And oh, yeah, Amanda Nunes is retiring because she's scared of me.
27:02No one believes that.
27:03No one's believing you.
27:04Not at all.
27:05And so yeah, you get a huge upset win over Amanda Nunes.
27:08Congratulations.
27:08That is one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport.
27:11Um, Nunes came out after and kind of proved it was a fluke by whooping that ass for five
27:15rounds.
27:15Um, Peña's three and two in her last five.
27:18If she wins this, then I'm not saying it validates everything.
27:22And oh well, Amanda Nunes was actually scared of her because I don't believe that for a
27:25second.
27:26And I don't believe that this validates Peña in being as good as she thinks she is.
27:31But it is a bit of validation, right?
27:32It's a two-time champion now, if she's able to pull that off.
27:35If she loses, I don't think she will be taken seriously ever again as a title challenger,
27:40to be perfectly frank.
27:41Um, for Raquel Pennington, it's kind of playing with house money.
27:44I don't think anyone thought she would have had this resurgence after Nunes lays down
27:50one of the most one-sided ass kickings in the history of the sport on Pennington back
27:56in 2018.
27:57She follows that up by losing weight and losing, er, missing weight, sorry, and losing to Jermaine
28:02Durandamy.
28:03To be able to bounce back and work her way into this opportunity, to be a champion again,
28:08is an unbelievable bounce back for Raquel Pennington.
28:11And an unbelievable kind of final act to this career.
28:16So we will see what comes of this fight this weekend.
28:19I'm very intrigued by this one.
28:20Um, overall, this isn't the biggest card out there.
28:23This isn't UFC, er, Noche UFC, this isn't one of those.
28:27But you got a couple of intrigues, um, intriguing fights anyway, at the top of the card.
28:30Coming up tomorrow, we'll look at the non-main event fighters that you should pay attention
28:34to on this particular show.
28:36But now let's move into the world of basketball, as we had a blockbuster trade happen over
28:41the weekend.
28:42Let's talk about it.
28:49Alright, uh, the NBA world got shooketh over the weekend, as the New York Knicks send Dante
29:01DiVincenzo and Julius Randle on their way to Minnesota in exchange for Carl Anthony
29:07Towns.
29:08Um, and so, yes, this throws off a few NBA, uh, preview things that I do.
29:14We're still gonna put out the mega preview on the eve of the, uh, NBA season, uh, but
29:19there's gonna have to be a couple disclaimers like, hey, this was recorded before that trade
29:22happened.
29:22And today was supposed to be NBA players on the hot seat, and two of them were Carl Anthony
29:28Towns and Julius Randle.
29:30So I suppose fitting that both players get moved in this particular deal.
29:34But let's start with the Knicks, because I like them more.
29:38Um, they get the best player in this trade, in Carl Anthony Towns.
29:41They needed a center with Mitchell Robinson being banged up and Hartenstein now being
29:45a Thunder.
29:47Boy did they go out and get one.
29:49If this works, this can be a title team.
29:53Um, I have said that.
29:56Um, I've said that about this team before.
29:58Deeds, welcome back.
29:59Sorry that pesky work thing gets in the way, uh, but happy to see you back.
30:02We still got some, um, NHL talk coming up after the, uh, after the basketball here,
30:07and some flames to close things out today.
30:09Um, but I have said before that this is a New York Knicks team that is now a championship
30:16caliber roster.
30:17And you have now added Carl Anthony Towns to that.
30:20And so if he can properly integrate into this team and the best version of him, I think
30:25fits this team really well, where he doesn't need to be a, he's not a ball stopper.
30:30He doesn't need to, all right, now I got it.
30:32Now I'm going to do my thing and I'm going to put it up.
30:33He can be a spot shooter and can kind of spread the floor a little bit.
30:37He provides them with a real big body presence down low that they didn't really have.
30:42Um, Hartenstein and Robinson both at times were able to do that, but in terms of being
30:48like just a scorer down low, Towns is infinitely better than both of those guys.
30:54And so I think he can kind of fit with Brunson and Bridges in a very interesting way.
30:59Um, on the defensive side, it's not perfect.
31:03Um, he fouls a lot and that is going to be the issue here, or one of the issues I think
31:08here, is defensively when you are playing for Tom Thibodeau, a lot is expected of you
31:13and you can't do that when you are onto the bench after you fouled a lot.
31:17And that was always the frustration with this guy, is he can find himself in foul trouble
31:22for just the dumbest fouls you could possibly imagine.
31:26And so that is where you start to get into the oil and water aspect of this.
31:32Because we had said before that the Knicks have carved out their identity.
31:35You, when you see a player out there, you're like, you know what?
31:38That's a Knick.
31:39Um, Karl-Anthony Towns is not that.
31:41And so you do lose a touch of that, but you also get a really interesting, very talented
31:47player at his peak.
31:48Like, Game 7 against the Denver Nuggets, he had a monster game and helped them put the
31:53Nuggets away and move on to the Western Conference Finals.
31:57And so like, there is a really, really good player in there.
32:00I do also think that it never really clicked in Minnesota, and I think that that was kind
32:06of weighing on him a little bit.
32:08The fact that there was a new guy coming in to be the guy when he was the guy before,
32:12um, I don't think he ever really fully embraced that.
32:15Now he is coming to a team that isn't his team, but it's guys who he's familiar with
32:19from, um, from different aspects of life, right?
32:23So there is, I think, a really intriguing part of this team now that I'm just, I'm excited
32:32to see it work.
32:32There is a part of me that is just a little bit like, oh, like, I just, I liked how they
32:36were constructed, I liked how they were put together, and I wanted to see it work.
32:39But now, offensively, this is going to be a difficult team to stop.
32:42We will see what they're able to do defensively, um, but I do think that he fits there a little
32:46bit well.
32:47On the Minnesota side, it gets you out of a gigantic contract.
32:50And DiVincenzo, I think, like, fits in with this Minnesota group quite well, and what
32:57they are looking to do in kind of a second unit.
33:00He's still going to be a bench player on this team, but I think he fits this group very,
33:03very well.
33:03It's Randle that I'm not sure about, because Randle is that guy who, when he gets the ball,
33:08it all just kind of stops.
33:10And it's why it never really fit with him, um, with the Knicks.
33:15Although, like, I'm saying it didn't really fit with him, with the Knicks.
33:17Like, he's a two-time All-NBA, and is a very good basketball player, and I think that gets
33:21lost in a few things sometimes.
33:23But with him and Edwards, like, Edwards needs the ball to be able to create and do all of
33:27those things.
33:27Well, so does Randle.
33:29And when Randle gets it, it's, okay, I'm going to back you down, I'm going to spin around,
33:33oh, I'm a little point forward, oh, and now I'm going to shoot a three, and it's not going
33:36to, it's not going to work.
33:37Um, and so, yeah, that, I just, I have questions about the fit there.
33:41But, like, long-term contract-wise, I think it's an interesting move.
33:44Um, it kind of gets them out of a couple of things, and now it is a big prove-it year
33:48for Julius Randle as well.
33:50So I don't think that this is a team now that takes a big step back.
33:55Um, Towns, like, they replaced his minutes with Reid really effectively, and didn't really
34:01miss a beat without him.
34:02So I think they just kind of slide him in there.
34:04We will see where Randle kind of fits with all of that, though, because I can't imagine
34:08Randle's going to be stoked to come off the bench in Minnesota after starting in New York.
34:13Um, so it's going to, again, it's just, it's an interesting fit out there.
34:18Overall, I think, I do think the Knicks win this trade, because I do think Carl Anthony
34:23Towns just kind of raises the ceiling a little bit for this group offensively.
34:27Um, it is a, it's a difficult fit defensively, but they have enough guys who can go out there
34:33and get stops defensively that I don't think it's going to be much of a hindrance.
34:36So I'm, I'm very excited to see how this all plays out, um, and to kind of recalibrate
34:42what I think of both conferences after a blockbuster trade.
34:46Okay, it is, uh, we are creeping up to the start of the hockey season.
34:50So let's talk some Calgary Flames to close this show out.
35:01All right, uh, the Calgary Flames are creeping closer and closer to the start of their season.
35:08Um, and it is, like, there have been a few things where it's like, okay, hey, maybe this
35:13guy will, uh, you know what?
35:14No, not really.
35:16That's not gonna, okay, well, maybe it's this guy.
35:17Okay, no, no, no, not, not the way to go.
35:20Um, and now, the one thing that has surprised me is some of the talk around Jacob Pelletier,
35:28where, um, it's like, all right, well, can you waive him?
35:30Can you whatever?
35:31That's, well, he's not having a great preseason.
35:33And I, this is where the preseason can get so very frustrating.
35:38Because the thought of waiving Jacob Pelletier, I don't think should even enter the Calgary
35:45Flames' minds.
35:46I think that would be just the height of overreaction to some stuff with him.
35:53And so to possibly lose him on waivers, I just, I can't.
35:59I can't.
36:00I don't think the Flames should either.
36:02And so yes, like, no, the preseason has not gone well for him.
36:06But I do still think that this is a kid who has a real upside and can play a style of
36:11hockey that can benefit your team for a really long time.
36:15He does need to start showing it at the NHL level.
36:17And he does need to start proving it a little bit more and a little bit more and a little
36:20bit more.
36:21But he has also had injuries really hinder his career.
36:24And it is a very difficult spot.
36:26Because if there was no waivers, you would just send him back to the American Hockey
36:30League so fast and let him start to work some of these things through.
36:34But you can't with him.
36:35Or else someone will claim him.
36:36And I don't think there is any debate someone would claim him when you look at the resume
36:44and the pedigree and all of those things.
36:47I don't think from a Calgary Flames standpoint you can afford to risk losing this kid on
36:53waivers.
36:54This is, if another team, if the Vancouver Canucks version of Jacob Pelletier popped
37:02up on waivers, every Flames chat everywhere would be saying, this is the type of guy the
37:08Flames should be going after.
37:09First round pick, didn't get his opportunities because he was banged up, and a couple of
37:13other guys kind of leapfrogged him, but now we have a shot to give him a little bit of
37:17room.
37:17And we've talked before about how kind of jammed up the forward group is with the Flames,
37:21and so you do have to kind of maneuver his way in.
37:25But I think this is one that you have to maneuver.
37:28We've talked about Coronado, I don't think you have to pass him through waivers, I'm
37:33pretty sure on that.
37:33So I think more seasoning for him, fine.
37:37For Pelletier, I do think that there is a middle six forward there.
37:41If he has to start the year on the fourth line, then he starts the year on the fourth
37:45line.
37:45I would rather that than lose him.
37:46So some of those conversations have been really surprising.
37:49On the Cooley one, I do think that everyone gets a little bit like, oh man, how could
37:52you, you might lose this, he's a goalie, he's on waivers.
37:56I, like A, if you did, I think it would be okay.
38:00I know we've talked a bit before about like, we love the personality.
38:03He shut down the Oilers, and an Oilers fan chimed in on the, um, that might have been
38:08on the Game Over YouTube channel, where someone came in on the comment section and talked
38:12about him.
38:12But either way, like the thought of losing Jacob Pelletier, or, is whatever.
38:17But Cooley, I would be, I don't think I'd be too heartbroken.
38:21I think, A, I think you can pass him on waivers and I think it'd be fine.
38:24We did this with Yanni Orteo a few years ago.
38:26I think it'll be okay.
38:27And if it's not, all due respect to Cooley, there's going to be another version of
38:32Cooley that pops up on the waiver wire at some point.
38:34Or an undrafted free agent, or whatever.
38:37There is going to be that.
38:38You can find another version of that.
38:40So I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.
38:42But yeah, very excited that we are getting closer and closer to the start of the NHL
38:47season.
38:48Alright, this is the first one of these in a while that we've kept under an hour.
38:52So, thank you Deeds, Crimney, and Toxic in the chat for popping in today.
38:58If you guys missed anything, all this will be available in podcast and in YouTube form.

39:56So, check that out on there right now.

40:10NFL Power Rankings.
40:11We're going to dive into that as well.
40:13And NBA.
40:15We're going to look at players and coaches on the hot seat.
40:19Sorry, just players on the hot seat.
40:21Going to have to recalibrate that after the big trade here.
40:23So, a lot still to come this week.
40:26Thank you all so much for tuning in.
40:28And I'll talk to you guys a couple of times tomorrow.
40:30Have a great rest of your day, everybody.
