00:15But meanwhile, today they joined the Pac-12 officially and they're gonna, uh, you know,
00:20take their talents, uh, their basketball prowess to the Pac-12, the newly created Pac-12.
00:26Uh, why don't we go back to, uh, where you were, uh, at the point of thinking that that
00:33was a bad idea for them?
00:35Well, I, it comes from the simple reality, Scott, is that they have built for themselves
00:43a perfect formula.
00:44Now I realized that part of that perfect formula is head coach Mark Few and his presence on
00:51the bench.
00:52And he is 61 years old.
00:54So he won't coach there forever.
00:57Uh, and at some point there's going to be an adjustment in that part and hopefully not
01:03for a while, but there at some point there's going to be an adjustment in that part of
01:06the equation.
01:08And one can say, well, this is setting themselves up for the future beyond Mark Few, which I
01:14find to be rather counterintuitive, honestly, Mark, because if they're going to be worse,
01:22if we presume they're going to be worse without Mark Few, then why would it be better to be
01:28in a conference where they would be less competitive?
01:31That doesn't make any sense if they're going to be as good or better, which are options
01:37that exist, then why would you mess with a formula that has produced one of the three
01:44tied for the three longest sweet 16 streaks in the modern history of the NCAA tournament
01:52and two national championship game appearances and five number one seeds since 2013.
01:58I don't think there's a better formula out there for Gonzaga.
02:01And I don't, I certainly don't think that it involves playing with these Pac-12 schools
02:07because when it comes down to Scott, is this simple reality, these games will be more difficult
02:14for them than the games they have played in the West Coast conference.
02:19But on the whole, not exclusive, not without exception, but on the whole, the games will
02:24be no more rewarding.
02:26It's not going to help you if in a typical Washington state year, it's not going to help
02:32you all that much more to beat Washington state than it does to beat Santa Clara or
02:39Loyola Marymount.
02:40It's just not going to help that much.
02:42It's not going to move the needle for the selection committee in terms of bringing you
02:46into the tournament or seeding you prominently.
