00:00Good evening gentlemen, you both know the rules, punches from here on up are good, punches
00:07from here on up are good.
00:09Obey my commands and protect yourself at all times.
00:11Touch gloves now, come out fighting at the bell.
00:13It's going to be a real good test for Tiger tonight, Alamo, very experienced.
00:22He has that style, unconventional style, I call it loose goose athleticism.
00:30He's almost like a non-conformist type of style, you know, can box, can brawl a little
00:35bit, can do a little bit of everything.
00:37Very elusive, throws punches from odd angles.
00:41It's a style that Tiger has yet to master and the matchmakers at Top Rank continue to
00:46give him these awkward, tall, lanky fighters.
00:49You see that punch right there, he was able to set up.
00:52Well schooled.
00:53And you know what, he had trouble with Tarek Zayn, wasn't very happy with his last performance.
00:58Because he was an awkward fighter, and I think that's exactly why they brought another
01:01awkward fighter right in, because that's where he needs to improve on.
01:06And Yomar Alamo, he's a city worker in the hometown of Aguas Buenas in Puerto Rico.
01:104am he's on the track, works from 7.30 to 4, then 4.40 to 7pm he's in the gym, and then
01:17home with the kids, Angeliani 16, Bay 7, and Luca who is 2.
01:24That's what his life's about.
01:25My wife, Tim you're going to like this, she calls him super dad.
01:29That's cool, super dad.
01:32I say that about my wife, super woman.
01:36That's why we're here.
01:37Yeah exactly.
01:38She's involved in so many things.
01:41However again, Tiger's going to have a hard time getting in his rhythm, he has to get
01:45his jab working.
01:46And again Alamo, again very tactical type of fighter, awkward, you know he throws punches
01:52from where his hands are, throws punches again when you least expect it.
01:57See how smart he is right now, he's picky and he's trying to anticipate that jab.
02:01Tiger, he doesn't realize that there's a left hook available for him, but he has to take
02:05the chance.
02:06He got a jab, and then hook off that jab.
02:08It's there for him.
02:09See that awkward shot right there from Alamo?
02:10Yeah.
02:11You know he comes from the city of magicians, that's why his nickname is El Mago, and he's
02:17magically landing shots that Tiger's not seeing.
02:21Nice counter left though from Johnson though, great uppercut counter.
02:26All created with his feet, just a nice little step back, step out of range, let your opponent
02:30fall short.
02:31When he falls short, you just provide a punch for the openings that he creates.
02:36Ooh, nice shot.
02:37Ooh, nice counter right there from Alamo as well.
02:38Well the problem with Alamo is he keeps his chin straight up in the air, and he pulls
02:41straight back.
02:42He moves back in straight lines.
02:44So anybody that typically moves on that straight line, man, and they stay on that straight
02:49line, you just continue to follow them out.
02:51You don't necessarily have to stop punching.
02:52Ooh, nice uppercut there from Tiger.
02:56We just saw in the last fight, Rojan Polanco walked Marcelino Lopez into a great uppercut.
03:02This one didn't have the same effect, it wasn't landed as cleanly.
03:05But you can see the makings of opportunities for Johnson against Alamo, but Alamo is no
03:12easy market.
03:13Guess who did stop him though, Tim?
03:14Who?
03:15Your favorite name in the world.
03:18Richardson Hitchens.
03:19Yeah!
03:20Ha!
03:21I got it right this time.
03:22You do.
03:23You get a star today, brother.
03:24Give you a star on that one.
03:25Now we gotta work on Ramirez, but that's a work in progress.
03:31Alright, round one in the books.
03:34Tiger Johnson wasn't really happy with his last performance, but what's the best thing
03:37to do when things don't go your way?
03:40You go back home.
03:41And what do you do for the people back home?
03:43You do a back to school event, providing free haircuts, school supplies.
03:48The city put out a boxing ring, he said.
03:50They coached kids, did a speech to motivate the kids that were sparring.
03:54And then after all that, they did a two mile run.
03:58And he says, to see the look on these kids' face, Tim, when you gave them school supplies,
04:03when you gave them a free haircut, he said the power was out in the projects because
04:07there had been a huge storm.
04:09He also hadn't eaten for days.
04:10They were bringing lunches back home to their houses.
04:13He's like, I never knew how good it felt to make other people happy.
04:18You know, I've been in moments like that, you know, giving back to community, you know,
04:23it definitely makes you feel like you're someone that you've accomplished.
04:27But in order to be able to give back to people in your neighborhood, man, I mean, they'll
04:32never forget it.
04:33Trust me.
04:34They'll never forget those moments, especially the little kids that are coming up.
04:38I mean, because this is a moment where someday the next Tiger Johnson will come out of that
04:43event.
04:44That moment, that one interaction.
04:45That's the point I'm making.
04:46That's exactly the point I'm making.
04:53Nice uppercut once again from Johnson.
04:55He's found his rhythm with that left uppercut and that stab jab.
04:59So for Johnson, if he's going to have success tonight, he's going to have to get active.
05:03Yes, be a little bit more active on his front foot.
05:07Can't be straight up and down.
05:08I mean, he wants to be textbook.
05:09However, sometimes you just got to get down and dirty, man.
05:12Get in that inside, bang him down to the body, rough him up a little bit, take him out of
05:17his element.
05:18Alamo's going to continue to do what you allow him to do.
05:25You have to try to tame this man.
05:27If you don't tame him, he starts to gain more and more confidence.
05:30He becomes more and more of a headache.
05:35You got to keep him going uphill and not let him get that downhill momentum where he's
05:39controlling the fight.
05:40Good jab.
05:41But that's how you do it.
05:42Tiger Johnson doing extremely well here.
05:43Oh, that's a one-two from Johnson.
05:47Excellent instructions probably from Prentice Brewer, one of the best up-and-coming trainers
05:50in the game today.
05:51And you could see the adjustments from Tiger here in round two.
05:56What he's doing is he's reacting off the react.
05:58So he's starting and he's finishing.
06:02That's what you do when you're in there with a guy that's a bit, I want to say, reactive
06:06as well.
06:07When every time you throw a punch, he looks to throw one back, you can set up counters
06:12on the back end.
06:13So you can lead, you know he's going to punch, you evade his shots, and then you get yours
06:18off.
06:19And that's what Tiger's doing.
06:21Nice counter right there from Tiger, and Alamo punches any moment he gets.
06:28That's your warning.
06:29Don't do that anymore.
06:30Come on.
06:31That's a deadly fridge.
06:34They can control immediately.
06:44Right behind there, the head of Alamo, is Juanita Lopez, the son of Juanma Lopez.
06:50Nice right hand there from Alamo, who just signed to top rank, and I'm not sure if Johnson
06:54didn't get hurt by that right hand.
06:59He possibly got caught off, out of position.
07:03We've seen him get hurt before, it usually happens later in his fights, but Yomar Alamo,
07:0813 knockouts and 22 wins, and he's holding on to-
07:11He might have gotten hurt, because now you see him the way he's tying up, trying to buy
07:15himself some time to allow his head and legs to clear.
07:20Now he looks like he has his wits back.
07:21Looks like he caught him pulling straight back.
07:24Yomar Alamo dangerous here, he has Johnson on the rope.
07:28Alamo with a nice right uppercut, but immediately, he has to hold once again.
07:32Look at all of them.
07:34Must need a tie up right there from Tiger, just to buy himself some time.
07:39Alamo, good round, great finish to this round.
07:42Listen, you've got to stop going backwards, stop inching back, you're inching back in
07:52a straight line.
07:53Somehow, you always keep ending up on a rope, okay?
07:56If you're straight backwards, you've got to be copying the OD, because he's boxing.
08:01Tiger along the ropes right here, looking for the right hand, gets it round to get his
08:08back back to the center of the ring.
08:10This is a good one too.
08:11That's what I was talking about right there.
08:12You see the jab coming from Alamo, quick counter right over the top, and this one right here
08:18was a good shot from Alamo, punching through that high, tight guard.
08:23You can go around the guard, underneath the guard, but you also can bust through that
08:27guard, and you saw Alamo right there, punching through the guard of Tiger Johnson.
08:32Yeah, and Tiger was actually a little bit buzzed there in that second round.
08:36We've talked about him being hurt late in round seven of two of his eight eight-rounders,
08:42so this is an early wake-up call for Tiger Johnson.
08:47Tiger got to be switched on all the way, all the way through.
08:50He cannot relax in this fight.
08:52Alamo is looking for any opportunity, any type of weakness or vulnerabilities from Tiger.
08:58Tiger wants to get into the world rankings, and he needs to look dominant against Yomar
09:03Alamo, especially after the performance that we saw from Rohan Polanco.
09:08Inevitably, these three junior welterweights are going to be compared.
09:13That's a nice straight right from Tiger Johnson.
09:18By three, I'm talking about Polanco, who we just saw, Tiger, who's in the ring now, and
09:23Elvis Rodriguez, who will be coming up next.
09:25Nice check hook from Tiger, he's got his wits about him, Tim.
09:29Yes, he does.
09:30Good inside work right there from both men.
09:3350-50 exchange right there inside that pocket.
09:36Danger zone for both men.
09:39Usually the one with the quicker hands to get off quickly is the one that's going to
09:43dominate that exchange.
09:44Both men right there having their moments.
09:48That's a good stab jab from Tiger.
09:52Tiger definitely has the quicker hands, but Alamo has really good timing, and again, awkwardness,
09:59unique awkwardness that helps him.
10:01You saw that miss, but you saw how close it was as well, and it came out of nowhere.
10:07See look, his hands are dropping.
10:09He dropped his right hand, his back hand to block that jab to the stomach.
10:13But if you step in and try to counter him, he's elusive too at the same time.
10:17Very elusive.
10:19He finds ways, little subtle ways to get his head off the line, bend his waist, or get
10:24underneath shots.
10:26Good things from Tiger, trying to open the guard of Alamo.
10:33Alamo reaching, again, steps in, take a few shots, and then what did he do?
10:38He followed up with a combination.
10:42Good shot.
10:43And Prentice Brewer told Tiger, somehow you find yourself along the ropes there.
10:48He got out of the way, but Alamo is trying to pin him up against the ropes, and that's
10:53where he's been effective.
10:55See, that right there is a momentum, slowing the momentum of the opposition.
11:01When you don't like what's going on, you tie him up.
11:05You stop his momentum, then you guys get out and you reset.
11:08That's what you saw from Tiger Johnson right there.
11:12Nice left hook to the body from Tiger.
11:14Nice right uppercut, but then he doesn't move out of the way and he lets Alamo tee off.
11:20Nothing landed clean.
11:21Stop!
11:22Stop!
11:23No punches!
11:24No punches!
11:26That's the second time that I saw Alamo lunge forward like that with his head down.
11:33If I'm Tiger, I'm looking to set him up.
11:35I'm looking to bag up, lure him in, use my jab, and set him up when he lunges forward
11:41with an uppercut.
11:42It's there.
11:46Hey, there's Elvis Rodriguez.
11:49He's going to be fighting Kendo Castaneda, the always rugged Kendo Castaneda.
11:54Elvis currently ranked IBF number 8, WBO number 13, and WBC number 18 at 140 pounds, and that's
12:03pretty much the range where you want to be to probably get a title shot, because nobody's
12:08taking on the mandatories anymore, Tim.
12:10Everybody's looking through that 10-15 range for a challenger.
12:13Look, Elvis has been at this for some time now, and I even told him in a fighter meeting,
12:17I said, man, you know, you're going to be waiting a little while for a title shot.
12:22You know, you got to build yourself back up.
12:24He had a few setbacks.
12:25I call it growing pains.
12:26That's okay.
12:27You know, however, you got to stay disciplined, you got to stay focused, and you got to stay
12:31hungry, and you can't let the politics boggle you down.
12:36You got to just continue to win and dominate your opposition that's in front of you, and
12:41if you do that, trust me, you will get a shot sooner or later at the title.
12:44I mean, he did become the first man to ever stop Victor Postol, the former world champion,
12:49so that says something about where he is.
12:51He's trained by Freddie Roach out there in the wild card gym, so you know he gets elite
12:55sparring day in and day out.
12:57You'll get to put all of that talent on display immediately after Tiger Johnson and Yomar
13:03Alamo in another junior welterweight attraction.
13:07Bernard Osuna alongside the International Boxing Hall of Famer Tim Bradley.
13:12Fourth round of Tiger Johnson against Yomar Alamo, and things are getting heated in there.
13:20Nice combination.
13:24Alamo just standing his ground now.
13:25He's not moving back.
13:27He'll take a half a step back, but at the same time, he's punching good timing and punching
13:33with Tiger, or at least attempting to.
13:35You see him right there, he's standing his ground, pulling his body back in an attempt
13:40to land shots.
13:41I mean, it's not the way you would teach it, Tim, but that's the way he does it.
13:45That's what I'm telling you, it's unique, and he gets away with it over and over and
13:48over, but somebody got to make him pay for that.
13:51Somebody do.
13:53And call him the magic, because he comes from the city of Medusa.
13:58Tiger needs to understand that and set something up.
14:01Look at that, raising his chin straight up in the air, pulling his body back.
14:07I always tell you guys at home, don't pull back, don't pull straight back, sooner or
14:10later somebody's going to make you pay.
14:12What Tiger needs to do is he needs to step in and let that right hand go.
14:15You mean he needs to do Bacoli what Bacoli did against Gerrard.
14:21Absolutely.
14:22You're absolutely right.
14:35Tiger gets squared up along the ropes, he's trying to corner his man, however, making
14:39himself a bigger target right there, Alamo, just letting off his punches.
14:45Nice tie up again, stopped the momentum of the opposition.
14:49And you're going to come in and grab him.
14:50Boxing.
14:51That clinch game, very important in boxing.
14:55Highly underused, especially by young fighters.
14:57Getting around him there.
14:59Look at him, don't take it home then.
15:04Nice combination there on the inside from Tiger.
15:07He turns him and then lands a nice left hook.
15:12But Alamo's coming back with a right hand of his own.
15:15He's definitely having his moments, but Tiger definitely has it pinned up against the ropes.
15:21He's looking to land some shots, he's getting a lot more aggressive than I've seen him in
15:24the past.
15:26I think that's a good thing.
15:28He's getting comfortable inside the pocket.
15:31You want a young fighter to be comfortable in every avenue inside the ring.
15:34Inside the pocket, mid-range, and also outside.
15:38Getting towards the midway point of this eight round attraction, Tiger Johnson, the Olympian
15:44against Puerto Rico's Lomar Alamo.
15:49Welcome to the state of boxing.
15:50I just got to ask you one thing, and one thing only.
15:53Do I still got it?
15:55I think we're getting carried away and overreacting.
15:58Are you kidding me?
15:59Come on, Cops.
16:00You see his footwork.
16:01The foundation is extremely important.
16:03I like his eyes, he's constantly scanning.
16:05He's constantly setting traps for his opponent.
16:07This is the access that you constantly get on the state of boxing, as you can see them
16:11dealing with the cut.
16:12Ortiz succeeded against great odds in imposing his will.
16:17The State of Boxing, always available on ESPN Plus.
16:26And once the fight, the main card is over on ESPN following Virginia Tech at Miami.
16:33We invite you to join us right here on ESPN Plus for the State of Boxing, where we will
16:38have post-fight interviews.
16:41We'll have a recap of the night.
16:42We'll look ahead towards better BF, Vivol, the undisputed light heavyweight title fight.
16:49And we'll remember what happened this weekend, or last weekend, when Daniel Dubois pulled
16:56off the huge upset against Anthony Joshua.
16:59A lot to talk about.
17:00More importantly, what happened with Mikaela Mayer and Sandy Ryan.
17:04All the trainer drama.
17:06You know what we do, Jim.
17:09We report it.
17:11Did you know that Alamo split decision loss to Liam Parrow, the champion, at 140?
17:21Absolutely.
17:22And that right there should tell you that no, he's not a one-trick pony.
17:29He is the magic man, but at the same time, very, very experienced.
17:34It's a really good test for Tiger.
17:36It looks like Parrow's going to be defending his title against Sander Martin.
17:39It's going to be an interesting fight.
17:41Stop!
17:42Sounds like a boring fight to me, but...
17:45I want to be kinder with my words.
17:48Yeah.
17:49Not to...
17:52Just keep it what I did.
17:53Keep it a buck.
17:58Some new wrinkles right here by Tiger.
18:01Trying to fight more inside the pocket.
18:03Staying on the side, off the shoulders.
18:05Good head position right here.
18:06Parrow's trying to get distance by pulling back off the ropes.
18:09Using the ropes.
18:11Adds a little bit of leverage.
18:15Again, both men fighting position.
18:16Nice little angle by Tiger.
18:17Didn't land no shots right there, but I like...
18:20I like the idea.
18:23Look, since you went into the record, I'm going to tell you that
18:25Yomar Alamo also had a draw against the always rugged Antonio Moran.
18:29Stop!
18:30And we talked about his stoppage loss against Richardson Hitchens.
18:33Yeah.
18:34Like, he's been in tough, and he's given all these guys a fight
18:37because he went eight rounds before being stopped by Richardson Hitchens.
18:41In Cleveland.
18:44He may not have the talent, but what he does have,
18:48he has the experience, he has the ring knowledge, meaning ring IQ,
18:53and he has a few tactics that he uses.
18:56You know, we know that Tiger, by far, is a better athlete, right?
19:00Yeah.
19:01However, you can compete with a few tactics.
19:04Again, a strong mind.
19:06You want to know how I know that?
19:08Because that's what I use.
19:10A few tactics.
19:11Didn't have a whole lot of attributes.
19:13I wasn't tall.
19:14I didn't punch that hard.
19:15But I had some hand speed and some foot speed,
19:17and I knew how to get in position.
19:18And that's the reason why he's always tough.
19:20Man, and you had the heart, the size of this building.
19:22Of course.
19:23I mean, there's a few other things, but I'm just saying,
19:25it wasn't like just pure skill.
19:26It was actually like, hey, I knew what you tried to do,
19:29or you're trying to do, and I take that away from you.
19:32And that's what Alamo does.
19:34Takes your strengths away from you.
19:37Nice straight right there from Alamo.
19:40Now, where is it?
19:41Tiger's back against the ropes.
19:43Nice shot right there.
19:45By Alamo.
19:46Alamo, he laughing.
19:49Time!
19:56That's just an apprentice.
19:58Go ahead.
20:01Look, if you're going to work on the inside,
20:04you can't lay on them and smother your own partners.
20:07You got to bend your knees here, create some space,
20:10and sit down on the shots and hurt his ass.
20:12If you ain't trying to sit down on your partners and hurt them,
20:14get the fuck out of there and keep boxing.
20:16That round better, but you still got to be more persistent, man.
20:19Dang, dang, when you in the center of the ring, he lost.
20:22He don't know what to do.
20:23The only time you give him confidence when you get the instant backwards
20:26and you ain't throwing nothing, all you're doing is walking in
20:28and throwing a bunch of wild shit, all right?
20:30Keep control with his abs and start just picking him apart.
20:32You was having fun there at the beginning of that round.
20:34You got to keep that shit going throughout the whole round, okay?
20:37Be consistent.
20:38Go ahead, Sapo.
20:48Stop laying on the niggas.
20:50Look, bend your knees, hands.
20:52Hop.
20:55Bell rings.
20:57Bernardo soon alongside the Hall of Famer Timothy Bradley and Tim.
21:02You just discovered why Yomar Alamo is so awkward and experienced.
21:07360 amateur fights.
21:10That right there.
21:1118 losses.
21:14Amateur boxing is like Dylan.
21:16342 wins.
21:17Yeah, exactly.
21:18Yeah, you know I'm terrible at math.
21:19You remember I was state of boxing the other day.
21:22You were saying.
21:23I was terrible.
21:24But anyways.
21:25Amateur boxing is about.
21:27Amateur boxing is about.
21:28Dealing with different styles.
21:30He knows how to deal with styles.
21:34I mean, but.
21:37Well, if Tiger Johnson has 205 amateur bouts, was an Olympian himself.
21:43Yeah, but sometimes, I mean, having all those amateur bouts again,
21:45it's not always great.
21:47It's not, you know, you got to really transition into the pros.
21:50Learn how to sit down on your shots.
21:53Understand various techniques and tactics inside the ring again.
21:57You know, the amateur system is all about point fighting.
22:00Point fighting.
22:01The pros is all about hurting your man.
22:05And instead of keeping the fight in the middle of the ring,
22:07once again, Johnson's back against the ropes.
22:10He's finally able to turn Alamo.
22:11And Alamo.
22:20Nice left uppercut there from Tiger.
22:22And then he sticks around for shoe shines from Alamo.
22:27Turning now.
22:28The fight is starting to break out now.
22:30Alamo, that was a great combination to get himself up off the ropes.
22:35Alamo senses that Tiger is still new to the inside work.
22:40Put himself in a bad position right there,
22:42and he couldn't strike from that position.
22:44Called that no man's land.
22:46Leaning in on that back foot.
22:48Got caught in that position.
22:50Yeah, that's been an issue from Tiger.
22:52Trying to work on the inside and staying in the pocket.
22:55But still, you know, Alamo's not letting him be comfortable in there.
22:58Yeah, I mean, if you're going to stay close,
23:00and you're going to stay inside the pocket,
23:02and you're going to stay inside the pocket,
23:03and you don't do no work,
23:04and you're just trying to smother me,
23:05I'm going to let my hands go.
23:06It's simple as that.
23:07And that's what Alamo did right there.
23:09Just let his hands go.
23:10That right hand in the first round caught the mouse under the left eye of Johnson.
23:15They've done a great job controlling that.
23:17Joe Guzman, the cut man over there.
23:21Has a great amateur and pro pedigree.
23:23Works with a lot of fighters out of Team USA.
23:26Have a lot of confidence in him.
23:29That's smart.
23:30Yeah, that's smart.
23:31That's very smart from Tiger.
23:32Getting back on the stick.
23:33Getting back on the outside.
23:37Trying to adjust himself.
23:38Nice right hand.
23:39Set up off the uppercut.
23:41A lead uppercut.
23:42Now, Alamo with an uppercut of his own,
23:45but not the same zip on it.
23:47Good round for Tiger.
23:51Tiger's getting tested tonight.
23:52Oh, that's a nice right hand from Alamo.
23:54Late in the round.
23:56Late in the round.
24:05Don't get wild with him, man.
24:07Don't get wild with him.
24:08Keep boxing.
24:09He's square.
24:10One, two, three.
24:11Left up.
24:12Left up to the chin.
24:13That was that.
24:14Right up to the chin.
24:15Look at this three-piece combination right here.
24:17Alamo just getting to work.
24:19You want to stay close.
24:20You don't want to do anything, young fella.
24:22Okay, I got some offense for you.
24:24Go ahead and take that.
24:26Along the ropes.
24:27What do you want to do?
24:28I tell you folks all the time,
24:29you get your opponent near the ropes,
24:30you want to bite.
24:31You saw right there Alamo biting down.
24:33Getting aggressive while he has his man along the ropes.
24:36They both exchanged right hands right there.
24:38You see the confidence starting to build from Alamo.
24:40I don't think that's a good thing.
24:42I think that Tiger Johnson's going to have his hands full
24:44in these next few rounds.
24:45The Tiger is facing a guy who started his career 17-0
24:49with 12 knockouts.
24:50He's got one knockout in the five wins since,
24:54but he's been match tough his entire career,
24:57so this is nothing new for him.
24:58It's nothing new.
24:59You felt the resistance already from a lot of young,
25:02talented fighters.
25:03This is another one that we believe that's a very talented fighter.
25:07You see Alamo doing very well throughout these rounds.
25:11Nice quick combination.
25:13Tim, that was a round that was going really well for Tiger,
25:17and he may have let it get away from him.
25:19Can't get complacent, especially in spots along the ropes.
25:24You've got to figure it out.
25:25All he had to do was tuck, step in, and smother.
25:28That's all he had to do.
25:31He's trying to set up that one-two again.
25:33It's Tiger, but Alamo's too smart for that.
25:40And when someone, Tim, has a day job,
25:42and they get up at 4 in the morning to go to the gym,
25:45that means that this guy is dedicated.
25:48Dedicated and disciplined.
25:50He doesn't have to do it.
25:51He wants to do it.
25:52You do it because you've got to do it.
25:54That's it.
25:55Like you said, you want to do it, right?
26:01Most people pretend they want to be a fighter.
26:03No.
26:04He's living it.
26:06That one-two from Tiger.
26:08What else can he put behind it?
26:14And at the same time, life is life.
26:16You've got to find that balance.
26:19And Alamo is always in the fight.
26:23Yes.
26:28And he's never been knocked down, never been cut.
26:31He didn't continue after round 8 against Richardson-Hitchens,
26:34and that's another warning from Charlie Pitch,
26:36who's been barking at Tiger, saying,
26:38Delonte, you're holding, you're holding,
26:40probably for the last two rounds.
26:42And so he's got to be careful with that.
26:44This is a fight where you cannot afford a point deduction.
26:49Got Tiger on his back foot.
26:52Tiger's going to have to box.
26:54Alamo's gaining more and more steam coming forward.
26:57He's looking for a big shot.
26:58He's fishing for a big shot, for sure.
27:01Good job right there from Tiger, just getting underneath that shot.
27:05And as long as he's on the stick, that makes things harder for Alamo,
27:09but that's a nice double uppercut from Tiger.
27:14But I don't see, I don't feel like there's a lot behind his shots,
27:17Tim, it's a lot of arm shots from Johnson here.
27:20A lot of arm punching.
27:22You know, I don't see a whole lot of strength in his legs, in his body.
27:27That can actually be contributed to weight, 140 pounds.
27:33He is a big 140-pounder.
27:355'11".
27:37Going to 147 could probably suit him.
27:41He can eat a little bit more and feel strong at the same time.
27:44But then you've got punchers there.
27:46And if a guy like Alamo can do this to you, remember, he was hurt in round two.
27:53Yeah, but again, that can be from the weight as well.
27:57You know, it definitely weakens your jaw.
28:02Alright, three more minutes of action after this one-minute break
28:05as they go to their corners.
28:08Alright.
28:10Ladies and gentlemen, here inside the Pia at Madison Square Garden,
28:15we go to the eighth and final round.
28:18This is the last round.
28:22This is what you have to do.
28:24You know what you've got to do.
28:26You've got to go out there and win it.
28:28You've got to leave it all out there.
28:31This is our last chance. This is our last break.
28:34Think of your family.
28:38Don't wait for him to throw.
28:41You go first.
28:42Take the lead.
28:54He's awkward, so you've got to let him go.
28:58You've got to be kind to him.
29:00You've got to let him go.
29:03You've got to be confident in your defense, though.
29:07Prentice Brewer and Renard Safo are the men who take turns
29:10giving Tiger Johnson instructions.
29:12Safo did not have a microphone, only Prentice Brewer.
29:14That's why you heard him and Alex Carvalho working the corner
29:17of Omar Alamo.
29:19Final round here.
29:20Bernardo, Suna, Timothy, Bradley, Mark Fiegel at the theater at MSG.
29:26Former felt for him.
29:27Nice straight right there from Tiger.
29:30Tiger right there is just using his hand speed.
29:32Why is he letting his hands go?
29:35Probably got an earful from his trainer, Prentice Brewer.
29:38Letting him know, hey man, you've got to let your hands go, man.
29:41It was a sense of urgency from both sides, but it's Tiger Johnson
29:44who comes out firing.
29:51He's controlled the first 45 seconds.
29:53Alamo's looking for his opportunity.
29:55He's looking for a low point in the offense from Tiger.
29:57There it is.
29:59As soon as he got on the ropes, he got clipped by a great right hand.
30:03You've got to have those hands up, man.
30:05You've got to be able to drop those legs, man.
30:07Drop those knees, bend those knees, and get underneath those shots.
30:10Now Alamo has momentum.
30:12We talked about momentum and how it shifts, and Tiger's stuck
30:15in the middle of the ring as he counters with a nice left.
30:17It's called energy management.
30:19That's what it's called.
30:20Alamo, he's been through some things, so he understands
30:23how to manage his energy.
30:25He was letting the young bull go ahead and express some of that energy.
30:28Go ahead. Keep punching at me. Keep punching at me.
30:31When you have that low point in your offense, in your energy,
30:34and you're trying to recover, I'm going to come on.
30:37If you're trying to recover in the worst place for you,
30:40which is up against the ropes, there's nowhere for you to go
30:43and escape this right hand of Yomar Alamo.
30:47Right now it's Tiger's job to go ahead and let his hands go.
30:52Ooh, nice counter.
30:54A little roll right there.
30:56Again, I'm telling you.
30:58Alamo's something else, man.
31:01He's something else.
31:03The 25-fight veteran, Awkward, has been in with great fighters.
31:07Not just good fighters, excellent fighters, like a current world champion,
31:11the Liam Parrow, Richardson Hitchens, Antonio Moran, among others.
31:15Keno Castaneda, who we're going to see next.
31:18He took his unbeaten record, Tim.
31:20So this guy collects undefeated fighters with O's.
31:28Nice left there from Tiger.
31:32That was a good combination, Alamo.
31:35Good exit right there, getting underneath that shot from Tiger.
31:41Look at Tiger now, just tying up.
31:43Again, trying to get a little breather.
31:46Can the judges have some work on their hands here?
31:50I don't even know how they scored this fight, to be honest with you.
31:52Ooh, nice left.
31:54And you see the reaction.
31:55The judges are looking at the punch's landing,
31:57and they're looking at the way the fighter is reacting to it.
32:01Or at least they should be.
32:03A draw would not surprise me here.
32:05Oh, did he go back in?
32:07Yes, he did. My goodness.
32:11There you see Yomar Alamo.
32:13Hey, this is New York City,
32:15but half of the Puerto Ricans are out here supporting Yomar Alamo.
32:19And Tim, he gave Tiger Johnson all he could handle.
32:22This is the shot you were talking about, Tim.
32:24Oh, my gosh. Look at this.
32:25Look at his backhand right here.
32:28But look at Tiger's eyes.
32:30He had a feeling something was coming back.
32:32My goodness.
32:33He's trying to slap him with the right, then backhand him.
32:36Literally backhand him.
32:38Wow.
32:39That's crazy.
32:40Yeah, that is crazy.
32:42He was closer to hitting the referee Charlie Fitch
32:44than he was to hitting Tiger Johnson,
32:46but good thing it was at the end of the fight,
32:48an illegal punch, to be honest.
32:50Man, very hard fight to score.
32:53A lot of ebbs and flows.
32:57Big learning experience for Tiger tonight.
33:01Curious to hear what the scorecards read.
33:04Very, very close.
33:05Look, we're talking about tonight's a comparative fight.
33:08We just saw what Rojan Polanco did.
33:10We saw what Richard Hitchens did against this same fighter.
33:13It's night and day, man.
33:14Come on now.
33:15It's night and day.
33:16And you already know the history of Richard Hitchens and Tiger Johnson.
33:21They don't like each other.
33:23And I'm sure Hitchens is going to get on social media after watching this tonight
33:27because Hitchens has stopped him, right?
33:29Yeah.
33:30And he's going to say, man, you ain't ready.
33:32But good back and forth action right here.
33:35Saw a little bit of improvement for Tiger in the inside.
33:38Again, I told you guys at the beginning this is going to be a tough fight for Tiger.
33:42A very awkward opposition tonight, I would say.
33:47Alamo, very crafty in there in his own way.
33:50See, when you put your head to the side like that and you're able to land shots like this,
33:56that's something you can't train for.
33:58You really can't.
33:59You've got to be really instinctive inside that ring.
34:01And like I said, you've got to get down and dirty and get in the trenches
34:04and push this man back because he can make you look silly in spots.
34:08And you saw Tiger in spots look a little bit silly.
34:10I'm not going to lie.
34:11Alamo made a miss.
34:12You saw the defense afterwards.
34:14However, good showing by both men.
34:17Let's see what happens.
34:18Yeah, the man with the scorecards is Mark Shalit.
34:21Let's see what the judges have.
34:23Ladies and gentlemen, after eight rounds here inside the theater at Madison Square Garden,
34:27we go to the judges' scorecards for the official decision.
34:32Alan Nace and Martha Tremblay both have it 78-74.
34:37John Basile has it 77-75.
34:40All in favor of your winner by unanimous decision,
34:45Tiger Johnson!
34:49Hear the crowd.
34:51That's why I was quiet.
34:52I wanted to hear their reaction.
34:54Not happy with the unanimous decision win for Tiger Johnson who improves to 14-0.
34:58Timmy really had to work at this one.
35:00Oh, he sure did.
35:01And he got lucky.
35:02And I'm letting you know, man.
