00:00Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival, is now in its 189th year.
00:07But where did it all start?
00:09Well, it all started with love.
00:11The marriage between Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Theresa of Saxony.
00:16The wedding festivities began on October the 12th, 1810 and lasted for a whole six days,
00:22ending with an exciting horse race on October the 17th.
00:26The party was so successful that the happy newlyweds decided to make it an annual event.
00:32At first, it was all about the beer.
00:34But then, in 1816, carnival booths and rides began to appear.
00:39As time went on, the party was extended to 16 days and brought forward into September
00:44as weather patterns changed.
00:47Today, Oktoberfest is the largest such festival in the world
00:51with more than 6 million visitors from everywhere drinking an astounding 7 million liters of beer.
