00:00We began our investigation looking at the attack on Katunga, 22nd of July 2020.
00:17He left work around 4.30 in the afternoon and he was walking for his bus at the bus home
00:23and from nowhere a car attacked him from behind.
00:27He had no chance and was left with devastating injuries.
00:33It was later in the investigation, some time later in fact, that we identified this attack
00:39on Julian Ford only 10 days beforehand and realised the significance.
00:43This wasn't an isolated incident, these were two linked attacks.
00:47Kay was 21 when this happened.
00:50Physically he had really complex lacerations, cuts across his face
00:56but of course it's the psychological impact on Kay which will live with him
01:02for as long as the scars live with him for the rest of his life, I have no doubt.
01:07The attack on Julian Ford left him with fractured ribs and a hole into his ribs
01:14that caused air and blood to be trapped between his rib cage and his lungs.
01:20He was a really, really poorly man and had to spend some time in hospital.
01:25Patrick James was filming the attack and you hear him on the video
01:30and the driver laughing both before and afterwards as they drive off.
01:37Absolutely sickening.
01:38It's four years ago now and that feels like a lifetime ago.
01:43We were in the middle of Covid at the time.
01:46We made arrests pretty quickly but there wasn't direct evidence in this case.
01:51We didn't have this captured on CCTV and there weren't witnesses to the attack itself
01:59and the forensic evidence only helped us so far with the investigation.
02:03So this has been a meticulous piecing together of hundreds of little bits of evidence.
