Manchester United - Tottenham

Transcript
00:00The Barclays starting lineups. Tim Howard has Manchester United.
00:04Yeah, Tim Howard makes two changes. You're looking at United's strongest back four.
00:08In my opinion, Dalot, Martinez, De Ligt, and Masraoui.
00:13At the base of the midfield, first permanently start for Ugarte.
00:17He'll partner Mainu there. Look for Mainu to be the one who creates the tempo.
00:22Ugarte breaks a lot of things up. Gets a lot of ball retention for his team.
00:26Up front, Zirkzee, we know he likes to drop deep and kind of combine in that number 10 role with Bruno Fernandes.
00:33Garnaccio and Rashford are the keys to this game. Tottenham will play an extremely high line.
00:37Rashford and Garnaccio have the pace to get in behind and cause problems.
00:41Well, Andi Posipoglou said that it was too tight a turnaround between the European game Thursday against Carabag
00:47and today against Young Minson, so instead they look like this then.
00:50Well, Posipoglou is forced to make one change with no sun, as you mentioned.
00:54Timo Werner comes in for him on that left-hand side.
00:57Solanke and Brendan Johnson, they've been amongst the goals recently.
01:01Very, very good on that front line.
01:03In the midfield, Maddison, even though he's tilted to the left, he has kind of the freedom of the pitch.
01:07You'll see him get attracted to the ball.
01:09Go left, go right, deep, pick up the ball off of his players.
01:12Beggs and Kerr just at the base, and in that back four, as I said,
01:15they're going to play all the way up at the midfield line, press the game as much as they can,
01:19and create problems for Man Utd.
01:21The sixth Sunday of the Premier League season,
01:24and we have Manchester United against Tottenham as the main event,
01:27and Spurs have chosen to have their huddle right in front of their travelling support.
01:34Two teams of whom more is expected than they have recently delivered.
01:41James Maddison, individually at least, showing an upturn in form.
01:45It's a grey afternoon in Manchester.
01:48The referee is Chris Kavanagh, and we are under way.
01:53Manchester United, of course, in the red shirts,
01:55and it's Xherxe that wins the first header,
01:57and Coro nods it back to Macario,
01:59Jim Beckham alongside Lee Jim, the chaps in the studio fancy Spurs.
02:03What say you?
02:05I have a sneaker for Manchester United, simply because the pressure is on and they've got to produce now.
02:10But many of these games over the years have maintained a real entertainment value,
02:15and I think both have served up some thrilling encounters,
02:18so we'd accept another.
02:23Rashford, showed too much to van der Ven.
02:28This extraordinarily quick, angular figure races forward,
02:32and tees up a chance!
02:34And Spurs have the lead through Brennan Johnson after two and a half minutes.
02:40And how about that for turning defence into attack,
02:43by the man who is more fleet of foot than any other Premier League player,
02:47Micky van der Ven.
02:50I mean, the glory will go to Johnson,
02:52but the grind here is going to go to this guy,
02:55because as soon as he wins it, he just knows that there's a gap,
02:58and he can make it with the pace he's got,
03:00and he should have been shut down by then,
03:02when Manchester United were slow in reacting to trying to prevent
03:07the movement up the pitch.
03:11And ten Hag has got to be furious with that,
03:13and now obviously the pressure is huge on the Manchester United manager,
03:17because of this brilliance from the centre-back,
03:20and a tap-in from the winger.
03:25He is the fastest player in the Premier League since records began,
03:29and started using the speed gun four and a half years ago.
03:37Unana, seeking to release Marcus Rashford,
03:39and he's succeeded in that, and Rashford!
03:43The flag is now up for offside.
03:45Di Cario made the save anyway.
03:48Bentancur.
03:50Maddison.
03:51Werner.
03:55Maddison again.
03:57Kulishevsky.
03:58Maddison's in!
04:01Now it's with Odoge.
04:04I think Unana deserves credit for this one, because he read it early.
04:11Maddison, Kulishevsky.
04:14Odoge!
04:23Odoge.
04:25Decent work by Werner.
04:28It's Kulishevsky.
04:30Now it's Johnson.
04:32And Johnson against the inside of the post.
04:36A matter of two inches away from 2-0.
04:42Bruno Fernandes.
04:47Meunier.
04:49And Sergei!
04:57Manchester United surrender it to Maddison.
05:02There are some boos around the place at the moment.
05:08It looks like his header will land at the feet of Toro.
05:12And that was Romero!
05:17Dalot.
05:20Rashford.
05:22Garnetto!
05:26And Manchester United appear to have woken up.
05:31Maddison.
05:33Kulishevsky.
05:35Werner.
05:36Flag stays down for now, and Werner is thwarted.
05:40And then Martinez arrives on the scene to try and sort matters out properly.
05:46James Maddison.
05:49Van der Ven.
05:53And Johnson.
05:55Made a play for a corner.
05:56Van der Ven.
05:58And Maddison.
06:02Tackled in somewhat rough house fashion, and it's a red card.
06:08And things go from bad to worse for Manchester United
06:13as their captain is dismissed.
06:22It's the hype. That's the hype.
06:24It's the hype. That's the problem.
06:27It looks like he's lunging to the referee, certainly.
06:30It looks like he's lunging.
06:32And because he slipped as he approached him,
06:35he kind of went that little bit higher just to try and stop him from moving forward.
06:40And it made it look even worse.
06:44I don't think the contact was fierce.
06:47It just looked terrible in the moment.
06:54Christian Romero.
07:00Christian Romero.
07:05Solanke.
07:07Spurs in with a chance with Johnson.
07:11Three up in support of him.
07:13And the touch beyond the flailing arms of Inanna
07:17by Dejan Kulesevski.
07:19And Spurs now have their two-goal advantage.
07:25I just thought as soon as Lisandro Martinez
07:29misses the challenge upcoming there,
07:32then they're open, they're exposed.
07:35And De Ligt did the utmost to try and get something on it, and he did.
07:40But it just went into the path of Kulesevski perfectly.
07:44So it's a stroke of luck in a way.
07:46But then again, once he did get in position,
07:48it's a lovely little flick,
07:50the way he's been able to control it away from Inanna.
07:52And give Spurs an early second goal
07:56in this second half.
08:06And that may be the decisive blow.
08:11Brendan Johnson.
08:15Kulesevski. Toro.
08:23On which subject?
08:25Rasmus Hoyland is available off the bench today
08:27as he makes his way back from a hamstring injury.
08:29Kulesevski. It's Werner!
08:31And Solanke, and Inanna does well second time.
08:35Another example of Werner one-on-one failing to convert.
08:39Garnaccio.
08:41Rashford.
08:45And there's Casemiro, another howl.
08:48Another penalty appeal.
08:50And at the end of all of that, it's a goal kick.
08:53But again, Peter Banks will take a closer look.
09:04His arms look in a fairly natural position to me.
09:11Martinez.
09:14And that's a great effort by Casemiro.
09:16Hitting a dropping ball in the half-volley is not easy.
09:19That's audacious.
09:21And it's a great attempt by him.
09:23And at one stage I'm thinking,
09:25is this going to go for a goal kick?
09:28But, oh.
09:30I mean, that's not an easy skill,
09:32and he almost pulled it off.
09:34Berkow to take.
09:37And that was Sarr!
09:39And it's touched in by Dominic Solanke,
09:41who scores here for the second season in a row.
09:43Last year we did it for Bournemouth.
09:45They won 3-0.
09:47And Tottenham may be about to repeat that scoreline.
09:51This game done and dusted now.
09:57And it's just the movement,
09:59too simple really for Sarr to get the flick on.
10:02And then you're worried,
10:04because once it's come in far post,
10:06who's making the movement?
10:08Well, it's Solanke.
10:10He's the one that's reading it quickest.
10:11And Dalot can't get there in time.
10:17And it's now comprehensive.
10:20And effectively it was Berkow's first touch with the corner,
10:23Sarr's first touch with the header on,
10:25and Solanke there to polish it off.
10:30Berkow.
10:34Scores have got five forward
10:36against four Manchester United players,
10:38which makes that rather wasteful.
10:42Eriksen.
10:46And Hoyland.
10:52Toro.
10:54That's some class.
10:56And it's Solanke.
10:58And now it's Sarr.
11:00And it could very easily have been four.
11:02Or it could.
11:05Dalot.
11:08Again.
11:09Garnaccio.
11:11And the little toe poke.
11:14Forward by De Ligt.
11:16Mikey Moore.
11:20He's within range now, Moore.
11:22And that's a great effort.
11:31It's Tottenham's best day of the season
11:34by far.
11:36But Manchester United
11:37continue to find new ways of
11:40plumbing familiar depths
11:43as they tumble to consecutive 3-0 home defeats.
11:48And in truth, this was a canter
11:51for Tottenham from the moment in the third minute
11:54that Brennan Johnson steered them in front
11:56after a barnstorming, buccaneering,
11:59three-quarters of the length of the field,
12:01memorable run from Micky van der Ven.
12:04The talking point, the sending off of Bruno Fernandes,
12:07for a foul on Maddison
12:10that many thought was worthy not of red but of yellow.
12:13It was underpinned and backed up by the VAR.
12:16Kuleszewski and Solanke scored further goals
12:19in the second half.
12:21And the most condemnatory thing you can say
12:24about Manchester United
12:26is that this is probably the easiest win
12:28that Tottenham have ever enjoyed
12:30at Old Trafford.
12:32Rebecca, full-time here.
