A Couple of Cuckoos S01E01
The episode opens with Nagi Umino, a diligent high school student, who has always known he was not related to his family by blood. Despite this, he strives to make his adoptive parents proud by excelling in his studies. On his way to meet his biological parents for the first time, he has a chance encounter with Erika Amano, a social media influencer who is trying to escape an arranged marriage.
Erika ropes Nagi into pretending to be her boyfriend for the day to avoid being set up with someone she doesn’t know. Although reluctant, Nagi goes along with Erika’s antics. The two bicker and clash, showing their polar opposite personalities—Nagi is serious and responsible, while Erika is carefree and confident.
Later, Nagi learns that Erika is actually the biological daughter of his adoptive parents, while he is the biological son of Erika’s wealthy family. To complicate matters further, both families decide to arrange their engagement in order to unite the families, much to Nagi and Erika’s shock.
The episode concludes with the promise of a quirky, romantic comedy where Nagi and Erika must navigate their strange new relationship while still dealing with their everyday lives.
