00:00How's it hangin'? I'm David Popkins, and I'm gonna scare the hell out of you!
00:08Welcome to Mirrors Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the SNL sketchers
00:13that still have us staring wide-eyed at the ceiling asking, why?
00:20So uh, do I win the contest? I win? Seems like I win.
00:24Oh my god!
00:27What's wrong?
00:29Number 10, Matt Foley, A Scary Story on Halloween
00:33Now as your father told you, my name is Matt Foley, and I am a motivational speaker!
00:40Oh, how we miss you, Chris Farley. In typical Foley fashion, the highly-spirited, van-dwelling
00:46motivational speaker attempts to warn some local teens about the dangers of vandalizing
00:51neighborhood houses. The teens, led by episode host Christian Slater, rather predictably
00:57don't take Foley seriously.
01:07That is, until he asks David Spade to imagine that he's an egg, and some incredible physical
01:13comedy ensues, in Farley's inimitable style.
01:16Foley's victims this time around? A glass table and a giant window, the latter thanks
01:23to a bag of flaming dog poop. What we wouldn't give for another lesson from Matt Foley.
01:39Number 9, Great Day
01:40We'll just cut to the chase here. Andy Samberg's character in this digital
01:53short is decidedly not having a great day. What appears to begin as a delightful, singing-in-the-rain-esque
01:59jaunt quickly reveals itself to be something much darker and unsettling. Samberg initially
02:11seems to be an average joe who's simply trying to see the bright side of things, and
02:15who can't relate to that. Well, before you answer that question, you might want to hear
02:20Samberg out. He's a little more than just down on his luck. Not only have his wife and
02:26kids left the building, but not even host Alec Baldwin and musical guest Tom Petty want
02:31to hang out with him. Truly a cosmic punishment.
02:46Number 8, Shana at a Halloween Party
02:51It's no secret that Kristen Wiig is the originator of some of SNL's most iconic
02:58characters and performances. A deeply talented impressionist who's game for anything. And
03:05if you're familiar with the criminally underrated Shana sketches, you'll know that we mean anything.
03:20For the uninitiated, this recurring skit finds Wiig playing the titular sexy siren,
03:26desired by every man with the great misfortune of crossing paths with her.
03:30However, as with almost any situation in which Kristen Wiig is involved,
03:35things almost immediately go awry, and Shana is definitely more than meets the eye.
03:40We're almost more worried about Ben Stiller's character in this sketch. Seek help, dude.
03:54Number 7, Headless Horseman
03:57This John Mulaney-anchored sketch is downright nasty in, like, several ways.
04:13For some reason, Mulaney, Pete Davidson, and the rest of the SNL gang had a lot of
04:18very blue questions about the legend of Sleepy Hollow, Ichabod Crane,
04:22and in particular, the Headless Horseman. In this iteration, Crane, as played by Mulaney,
04:28is reimagined as a truly disgusting pervert who, when encountering the Horseman,
04:34isn't even remotely scared.
04:36Look, I've been trying to do it to myself with my regular attached head. I tried yoga,
04:42and I tried stretching. I even had the town doctor remove two of my ribs.
04:46Rather, he floats a number of rather innovative possibilities as far as the, you know,
04:52detached head thing goes. When Mulaney and co. have questions for the Horseman,
04:57the audience assuredly has questions for the writers of this sketch.
05:01You came to rescue me, William?
05:03No, I wanted to ask the Horseman some questions.
05:07You ever, uh, just roll it into the ladies' room?
05:10Excuse me?
05:116. Mafia Meeting
05:13My name is Jonathan Comet, and this song is called Space Pants. Begin transmission.
05:20One can only wonder as to the thought process that resulted in this sketch,
05:25and specifically, the existence of Peter Dinklage's Jonathan Comet and his Space Pants.
05:31Dragged to a bar by Bobby Moynihan and Beck Bennett's intimidating gangsters,
05:36John Rudnitsky and Pete Davidson are spooked into paying off their $20,000 debt.
05:42You there in front, stop talking during my song! It's very rude!
05:47However, they're saved, at least momentarily, by the hilariously incongruous Comet and his
05:54close personal friend, Gwen Stefani. Why is Comet obsessed with his Space Pants?
05:59How does he know Stefani? We're not even sure we want the answers to these questions.
06:05Ladies and gentlemen, I'm happy to report, my friend Gwen Stefani is wearing Space Shorts!
06:11People on Earth hear what I say, my shorts are from a galaxy far, far away.
06:175. Chad in a Haunted Mansion
06:19Who are you?
06:24Chad.
06:25Welcome, Chad.
06:27We really wish we had Chad's total unflappability in any given situation.
06:33Here, Pete Davidson's most famous recurring character finds himself stranded during a road
06:38trip on a dark and stormy night, with his only option for seeking refuge being a creepy old
06:44mansion that he almost instantly learns is haunted.
06:47Oh no, your neck.
06:49Yes, I'm afraid it's quite gash.
06:53Gash.
06:53Luckily for him, the haunter in question is played by Adele,
06:57as a lonely ghost who seeks Chad's help in crossing over into the afterlife.
07:01Unsurprisingly, the well-meaning but dim-witted Chad turns out to be no help at all.
07:07Hello from the other side, indeed.
07:10Do you have a favourite book, Chad?
07:11Where's Waldo? The yellow one?
07:13I'm not familiar, who's the author?
07:15Waldo.
07:164. That Canteen Boy Sketch
07:19You know, it seems like the moment you get out of the city,
07:22all your problems just sort of fade away.
07:26Look, before anything, we should state unequivocally that Adam Sandler's Canteen Boy
07:32is canonically 27 years old and continues to be active as a lifelong scout due to his
07:38relative eccentricity. Seriously, that's from this sketch's title card.
07:44Now, having said that, it doesn't make this iteration,
07:47with host Alec Baldwin as a blatantly predatory scoutmaster, any less uncomfortable.
07:53Do you like wine?
07:55Actually, I prefer purified water right out of the old canteen here.
07:59I'm going to get us a little wine.
08:03Immediately controversial from the time of its airing, the sketch features Baldwin making
08:08several extremely overt attempts to come on to the sweetly innocent Canteen Boy.
08:13Thankfully, the latter has seemingly supernatural powers at his disposal,
08:18sparing himself from Baldwin's creepy wrath.
08:21Truth or dare, Canteen Boy?
08:26Uh, refresh me.
08:27Number three, world's most evil invention.
08:31So, uh, do I win the contest?
08:34I win?
08:35Seems like I win.
08:35Oh my god.
08:38What's wrong?
08:39This is one sketch where, after watching it, all you can really say is, well,
08:44they really went there.
08:46You might also be asking yourself, how did they get Dwayne Johnson to agree to this?
08:51Well, unfortunately, we don't have the answers to those questions.
08:55But if you find them, please don't hesitate to let us know.
08:59My most evil idea was a blizzard in July.
09:03Right, well, I went in a slightly different direction with the assignment.
09:07Johnson plays Roy, a seemingly mild-mannered participant in the titular competition.
09:12Roy participates alongside a host of cartoonishly over-the-top comic book villains
09:17who put forth such dastardly inventions as a freeze ray.
09:21Once you learn what Roy has cooked up, you'll not only be nauseous,
09:25but probably in agreement that he should take home the gold.
09:29Yes, yes, yes, that's exactly right, this guy gets it, you get it.
09:33Oh my god, no I don't.
09:35Number two, the curse.
09:36You, you break the sacred talisman.
09:39Maybe you shouldn't have left it lying in the street.
09:41You pay me.
09:42Kiss my ass.
09:43Remember Andy Samberg's earlier Great Day sketch?
09:47Well, if you thought he was actually having a terrible day there,
09:50get ready for the curse, in which the former SNL star seems to be in for a terrible life.
09:56It's a tale as old as time.
09:58A callous businessman, Samberg, damages Fred Armisen's offensive caricature sacred talisman,
10:04and in a show of pure hubris, belittles him when asked to pay up.
10:12Samberg quickly learns the error of his ways after Armisen places a curse on him,
10:29which entails a shirtless, oiled-up Jon Hamm
10:32appearing at inopportune times to play a mean jazz sax.
10:36And we mean seriously inopportune times.

11:26Hey, they don't necessarily have to keep you up for a bad reason.
11:30Sometimes, it's just pure bafflement.
11:33This sketch for the ages stars Beck Bennett and Kate McKinnon
11:37as a couple in search of corny Halloween frights.
11:40What they don't expect to find, however, is Oscar-winner
11:43Tom Hanks' now-iconic David S. Pumpkins.
11:48Pumpkins' creepy cohorts make sense.
12:01That is, his fellow ghosts.
12:03Not the inexplicable B-Boy skeletons who accompany his routine.
12:08Which is what, exactly?
12:09We don't know.
12:11But they're definitely part of it.
12:14While McKinnon and Bennett, despite their increasing levels of confusion,
12:18aren't able to crack the mystery, maybe that's for the best.
12:30Which SNL sketch keeps you up at night?

12:35Or maybe don't.
