00:30Welcome to the show
00:32Yeah like pumpkin spice salade
00:34We're back for the autumn
00:36And we've got a good one for you
00:38Yes, later we'll have music right over there
00:40From Jack Savaretti and Miles Kane
00:42Yeah
00:44They'll be performing a track from Jack's latest album
00:46But first on my sofa tonight
00:48Since his back to winning role
00:50As Morris Moss in the IT crowd
00:52This actor, writer and director
00:54Has continued to stare at the camera
00:56With his arms folded in the likes of
00:58The Gentleman, The Crystal Maze
01:00And his presentation of The Bastards
01:02So first up, his latest book
01:04The Unfinished Harold Hughes
01:06Has been described as Nabokov meets Spinal Tap
01:08It's also very funny
01:10Like its author, Richard Iori
01:12There he is
01:14Hello sir
01:16Nice to see you
01:18Have a seat too
01:20This Irish superstar
01:22Has played opposite
01:24So many acting greats
01:26Tom Cruise, Al Pacino, Nicole Kidman
01:28And my personal favourite
01:30Jenny the donkey
01:32And that was in the banshees of Inishare
01:34Which last year won him a richly deserved
01:36First Oscar nomination
01:38Now he's unrecognisable
01:40And brilliant
01:42As supervillain turned crime boss
01:44The Penguin
01:46Please welcome the great Colin Farrell
01:56Welcome to the show
01:58Let's go on
02:00She burst onto the scene
02:02As part of the 80's Hollywood
02:04Brat Pack
02:06Going on to become one of the biggest film stars
02:08In the world
02:10In hits like Indecent Proposal, A Few Good Men
02:12G.I. Jane and the iconic Ghost
02:14Now she is giving an extraordinary performance
02:16As Elizabeth Sparkle
02:18In the body horror comedy
02:20The Substance
02:22Which critics are saying is
02:24It's a pleasure to welcome
02:26For the first time
02:28Demi Moore
02:42And she's a pop superstar
02:44An actor
02:46A fashion icon
02:48Who's won 13 Grammys, 2 Golden Globes
02:50A BAFTA and an Oscar
02:52And her original song in A Star Is Born
02:54Now she's striking up
02:56A bad romance
02:58As Harley Quinn in Joker
03:00It is a warm welcome back
03:02To the one and only Lady Gaga
03:22They're pleased
03:24Sometimes there's buyer's remorse
03:26But they're happy
03:28So welcome back to Richard
03:30Colin and Lady Gaga
03:32But a first time welcome to Demi
03:34Thank you, so happy to be here
03:36I feel like I finally made it
03:38Yeah right, this is it
03:40Now you have been travelling all over the world
03:42Promoting The Substance
03:44But you haven't been alone
03:46You've been upstaged at every turn
03:48Yes, I have a significant other
03:50Yes, I think we've got
03:52We've got a picture, there
03:54This is, what's
03:56Pilaf?
03:58It's a
04:00Pilaf the little mouse
04:02And is it a male mouse or a female mouse?
04:04It's a female
04:06I want a selfie with it
04:08Oh, and it is photogenic
04:10Pilaf is very photogenic
04:12Because it's done a cover shoot
04:14Yes, I knew that she had really moved into
04:16A whole new category when my publicist
04:18Called just for Pilaf to be on the cover of
04:20Dogue
04:22Dogue, you know
04:24Is there really a Dogue?
04:26It's Vogue for Dogs
04:28There is
04:30That's amazing
04:32That's amazing
04:34Have you got a friend in your house?
04:36Not yet, but I plan to
04:38And that's the size the dog actually is
04:40Why did you leave her out in the snow?
04:42Pilaf isn't on set yet
04:44No, but she is here
04:46So we
04:48We ought to
04:52Oh, jeez
04:54Did we mic the dog?
04:56To hear her heartbeat
04:58Oh my, oh my
05:00Oh my, oh my
05:02Hi, hi, hi
05:04Oh, you're so good
05:06Oh, oh
05:08She's so weird
05:10She's so weird
05:12This is
05:14You have treats in your pocket
05:16No, no, she's just an equal opportunity receiver
05:20Does Pilaf understand this is television
05:22So she ought to piss
05:24That would go viral for us
05:26I don't want to touch
05:28I had a feel backstage
05:30Yes, you had a feel backstage
05:32Oh, I'm afraid I'm going to hurt her
05:34I know, and she's so fragile
05:36Oh my God, she's so fragile
05:38The tongue is amazing
05:44How old is Pilaf?
05:46Pilaf will be four in November
05:48Wow
05:50I don't mean this rudely, but looks older
05:54She had one flaw
05:56Which is she didn't have a full set of teeth
05:58And she had to lose some, hence why the tongue does not stay in
06:00Oh, no way
06:04Oh my God
06:06I feel like the teeth pulled straight away
06:08So cute
06:10Should we let Pilaf relax?
06:12I don't want her to steal everything
06:14There she goes
06:16Pilaf, everybody
06:22I love that I have this level of couch
06:24But a very small dog
06:26Shits all over everything
06:30Now, Richard, you were here tonight as an author
06:32Thank you
06:34A director of films
06:36Have you worked with any of the people on the sofa?
06:38I have not
06:40I have sent Colin a script
06:42Which I had told you I was yet to read
06:44No, the good thing is
06:46Because we were both on this
06:48You had to read it
06:50Is it a no yet?
06:52You have to read it, otherwise it could have been awkward
06:54That's the gospel
06:56I said to him
06:58It could have ended in some fisticuffs
07:00Yes, I said to him
07:02The Greensbury rules, of course
07:04He has agreed to do it for no money
07:06Which is very nice
07:08That's Colin
07:10Anytime you want
07:12I'm there, I will not take a penny
07:16Colin's words, not mine
07:18All right
07:20We're going to start with Lady Gaga's new movie
07:22Joker
07:24I know
07:26It opens in cinemas on the 4th of October
07:28And this is the sequel to Joker
07:30Starring Joaquin Phoenix
07:32And you play Harley Quinn
07:34But what version of Harley Quinn is this?
07:36What can you tell us about her?
07:38I play Lee Quinzel
07:40That's my version of Harley Quinn
07:42And you know
07:44This movie, this story
07:46Really centers around Arthur Fleck
07:48If you saw the first film, you know him
07:50In the first film, Todd really slowed down
07:52To take a look at Arthur Fleck's life
07:54Somebody that maybe would get pushed aside
07:56Or passed by on the street
07:58To see who he was
08:00And what made him Joker
08:02So in this film, he meets Lee, my character
08:04And they fall in love
08:06But she's very different than the Harley Quinn
08:08That everybody has known before
08:10I tried to root her
08:12In the reality of this film
08:14And create Arthur's match
08:16Who would be the person that he would love
08:18If he stopped for a moment
08:20To talk to her
08:22What would be the storm inside of her
08:24That would make her catch his eye
08:26So that's my Lee
08:28She's got a little bit of
08:30A hurricane inside her
08:32Like the ground is shaking all the time
08:34Or a bomb might go off in her
08:36We've got a clip
08:38This is you as Harley visiting the Joker
08:40Played by Joaquin Phoenix
08:42In the asylum
08:44This is gonna be good for us
08:46Now I can be at your trial everyday
08:48I can see you everyday until you get out
08:50And then what?
08:52We're gonna build a mountain
08:54You better wake up
08:58I wanna see the real you
09:00It's just us now
09:30Thank you
09:32Thank you
09:34I love it
09:38Thank you
09:40Here's the thing
09:42That scene where you're putting the mask on the Joker
09:44And I heard you talking about this
09:46That in ways you really relate to that idea
09:48Of wearing a mask
09:50And how that can help you in your life
09:52Well I don't know if it helped me
09:54You know
09:56Yeah I've always kind of had a relationship
09:58With dual identities
10:00Through my music and creating characters on stage
10:02Which was maybe unconventional to some people
10:04You know
10:06Playing an actor in a film makes a lot of sense
10:08But everybody wants to kind of see you be yourself on stage
10:10And I am myself on stage
10:12I'm just also something else
10:14And so I was really interested
10:16In making this film
10:18Because Arthur is this like
10:20Kind of incredibly unique person
10:22Who has this like affliction
10:24That he suffers with
10:26And the way that people treat him
10:28Where he lives in Gotham
10:30Joker is kind of like
10:32A symptom of his conditions
10:34And I just thought that that was
10:36A really beautiful way to tell the story of Joker
10:38And I thought it was also beautiful for a love story
10:40Who would be like the complex woman
10:42That would
10:44Love him completely
10:46Who would to me love Joker
10:48And love Arthur too
10:50And Lady Gaga as one would hope
10:52Music in Folly
10:54So when this goes out on Friday night
10:56By the time that happens
10:58There will be a new Lady Gaga record in the world
11:00Yeah
11:02So I was really inspired by my character Lee
11:04And all the music in the movie
11:06So I decided to make my own album
11:08Called Harlequin
11:10Inspired by her
11:12And it's all original productions
11:14That I did
11:16To basically like
11:18Define her
11:20Without defining her at all
11:22I'm a jazz influence
11:24And I take you through like
11:26So many different genres on the record
11:28To me Harley cannot be pinned down
11:30She's a woman that can't be defined
11:32So I was sort of saying
11:34I'll be jazz when I want to be jazz
11:36And I'll be funk when I want to be funk
11:38And then I'll be soul
11:40And then I'll be blues
11:42And then I'll be church
11:44And I'll be whatever I want to be
11:46Whenever I want to be it
11:48Because I think women
11:50Are a lot of things
11:52Yes and we can be all those things
11:54At the same time
11:56The album is called Harlequin
11:58And I think we've got the cover art there
12:04I was lucky enough to hear the album
12:06Because it's not the soundtrack
12:08It's such a joyful album
12:10Thank you
12:12She's super happy
12:16It's a joyous thing
12:18It's actually
12:20I think it's a great record
12:22If you're having dinner with your friends
12:24And one of your crazy holiday parties
12:26It's meant to be
12:28Music to have fun to
12:30But it's not the soundtrack
12:32It's a companion piece to the movie
12:34Talking of singing
12:36We saw you at the Paris Olympics
12:38Yes that was me
12:44As a superstar
12:46In the rain
12:48I'm doing this
12:50It was probably raining
12:52But the most crazy thing
12:54Was that they insisted
12:56That the staircase be carpeted
12:58For the performance
13:00And it was raining
13:02So it was wet carpet
13:04In my underwear
13:06If anyone wants to perform on TV
13:08In their underwear
13:10On a wet carpet
13:12Call me
13:14Oh
13:16Je vois ce que tu as fait
13:18C'était bien
13:20Tu t'es engagée
13:22Tu t'es engagée
13:24En fait
13:26C'est la dernière nuit
13:28On s'est engagée
13:30Le 1er avril
13:42Le Premier ministre
13:44Avait ses gens en train de nous filmer
13:46En nous disant bonjour
13:48Ils m'ont attrapée
13:50En me disant que c'était ma fille
13:52J'essayais de le garder secret
13:54Mais ils l'ont annoncé
13:56Mais c'était sympa
13:58J'aime que tu aies l'équipe USA
14:00En allant aux Olympiques
14:02C'était super
14:04Les femmes étaient géniales
14:06Très rapidement
14:08Je dois dire
14:10Tu es magnifique
14:12Mais on doit mentionner
14:14Quelqu'un d'autre
14:16Brendan Gleeson
14:18J'ai adoré travailler avec lui
14:20Il est super gentil
14:22Et tu l'as connu
14:24Quand ça s'est passé ?
14:26Regarde ça
14:28Tu sais ce que je fais
14:30Quand tu dis bonjour à quelqu'un
14:32Et ça s'est passé
14:36Il t'a vu tomber
14:52Vas-y alors
14:56Je suis dans le ciel
15:00C'est là que j'ai eu la COVID
15:02C'est un fait
15:04Brendan le super spreader
15:06Oui
15:08Les mains sur le dos
15:10Tu vas l'avoir mon fils
15:12J'ai tout dans moi
15:14J'étais aussi dans Nando's
15:18C'est un super cast
15:20Un super film
15:22Joker est sorti le 4 octobre
15:24Merci
15:32All right we're moving on to
15:34Demi Moore's extraordinary new film
15:36The Substance
15:38It is out now
15:40And if you haven't seen it
15:42It has to be seen to be believed
15:44But I highly recommend
15:46Don't see it alone
15:48I saw it alone
15:50I still enjoyed it
15:52It's good to have someone with you
15:54To witness it
15:56It's just a bonkers film
15:58A brilliant bonkers film
16:00How are you describing it to people?
16:02It's almost impossible
16:04To fully describe
16:06You don't want to give it all away
16:08The general gist
16:10It's dealing with aging
16:14I play a woman
16:16Who is being fired from her own show
16:18An actress who has a fitness show
16:20And she's aging out
16:22And this kind of gets
16:24Sees her face being ripped down
16:26From a poster of her campaign
16:28So everything
16:30She's at the lowest point of her life
16:32And is offered a substance
16:34For a newer, better, younger her
16:36But unbeknownst to her
16:38That is not me that transforms
16:40It's another entity that comes out of me
16:42It's like a young clone
16:44We share consciousness
16:46Where can I get it?
16:50I got some in the back
16:52I'm happy to share
16:54So that's like
16:56It's very difficult to fully describe
16:58But it is interesting
17:00We're used to this idea of a potion
17:02That can make you young again
17:04But Elizabeth Sparkle
17:06In her fifties exists alongside
17:08The young Elizabeth Sparkle
17:10Played by Margaret Qualley
17:12Did you cast her?
17:14Were you responsible for casting her as the young you?
17:16No, I think our director Corley
17:18Was looking for a right match
17:20But in fact not wanting us to look identical
17:22So she chose a taller
17:24Blue-eyed version of me
17:26Which I can say
17:28I always wanted blue eyes
17:30I wanted longer legs
17:32But you know
17:34What's interesting in the film
17:36Just to kind of give more seriousness
17:38Is that idea of the pursuit of perfection
17:40Leading us down a road
17:42Where we then only decay
17:44Further away from
17:46Being able to embrace the beauty
17:48Of all that we are in the present moment
17:50Yeah, and I suppose we ought to flag up
17:52There is a proper full-on
17:54Body horror
17:56I mean there is blood
17:58There's about 30 gallons
18:00Not exaggerating
18:02No, no, for real
18:04Where did they keep the blood on set?
18:06It was in a fire
18:10They used it with a fire hose
18:12Really?
18:14You haven't gotten that scene yet
18:20It's dealing with some really interesting
18:22Subject matter
18:24The best way I can sum it up
18:26It's kind of like the picture of Dorian Gray
18:28Meets Death Becomes Her
18:30And a Jane Fonda workout
18:32I mean that is the movie
18:34Your performance is so
18:36Intense and visceral
18:38We've got a clip here
18:40Set it up for us
18:42You're going on a date
18:44I'm just getting ready for a regular date
18:48So this is a moment
18:50Where she has
18:52An offer to ultimately
18:54Allow her to almost escape
18:56The self-imposed prison
18:58Of her own
19:00Isolation
19:02And she's been asked out
19:04And it's a moment of true compare
19:06And despair
19:08Which we've all had
19:10Let me just try to fix this
19:12No, let me change that
19:14And the more we try to make it better
19:16We just make it worse
19:18Here it is
19:40Wow, so intense
19:46I love both of our sequences
19:48It's all about lipstick tonight
19:50Oh yeah
19:52You must be so proud of this movie
19:54I think I'm very
19:56I'm really moved by the fact
19:58That it actually is
20:00Has the potential of laying a few
20:02Pavers down for a cultural shift
20:04I don't think any one thing
20:06Creates that shift
20:08But I think the way in which
20:10We look at ourselves
20:12The way in which we hold ourselves
20:14It's important to find the love
20:16And the value and appreciation
20:18For who we are as we are
20:20In whatever moment we're in
20:22And I hope that this can kind of
20:24Help move that needle
20:26I think it's really interesting
20:28That idea of body image
20:30And being vulnerable
20:32It kind of goes back to that
20:34Incredible iconic moment
20:36At the Paris Fair
20:38Were you seven months pregnant?
20:40Seven and a half months pregnant
20:42I mean that has become such a kind of
20:44It was a real moment
20:46I mean the fuss at the time
20:48Was this your idea?
20:50Actually we were shooting this
20:52At the end of the shoot just for me
20:54It wasn't for the magazine
20:56And I said at that moment
20:58Wouldn't it be great if they
21:00Could use this for the cover
21:02And then two weeks later Annie Leibovitz
21:04Said I think
21:06And I was like amazing
21:08I mean I didn't know it would have such an impact
21:10And it's been so replicated
21:12I mean the thing is
21:14It's not like I was the first person
21:16But it's the idea
21:18That we've lived in times where
21:20Once you were that big pregnant
21:22You weren't supposed to remind anybody
21:24That you'd ever had sex
21:26You reminded everyone
21:28I did, yes
21:30And who's in there? Is that Scout in there?
21:32It came out when Scout figured out
21:34Oh I'm on the cover of Vanity Fair
21:36Oh they saw it right away
21:38They loved it
21:40I mean the reason I did it was for them
21:42Not even for me
21:44It's for each of them
21:46I did it with Annie
21:48With all three of my children
21:50And I heard you talking about
21:52Reading the script for The Substance
21:54And you said it reminded you
21:56Of reading the script for Ghost
21:58Yeah because there's something about
22:00It could be amazing
22:02Or it could be a fucking disaster
22:04And so of course I had to say yes
22:06And I feel like Ghost was very similar
22:08It's like okay we're going to do a comedy
22:10A thriller and a romance
22:12Okay
22:14But I think when we push ourselves out of our comfort zone
22:16When we do things that make us a little afraid
22:18It always makes us a little better
22:20Even if it fails
22:22And wasn't there a moment when the reviews came out for Ghost
22:24You kind of thought uh oh it's not going well
22:26The reviews were disastrous
22:28Yeah
22:30And then people loved it
22:32That makes no sense
22:34They were awful
22:36Because it'll survive a decade
22:38It'll keep going
22:40But they were awful
22:42And I thought wow I can't trust myself
22:44Because I actually thought I saw something that was good
22:46And I love that you are a proper collector
22:48You've kept the pottery you made
22:50Okay let's not go wild
22:52My piece of pottery looks like a kindergartner
22:54I mean literally
22:56It's beautiful
22:58Well he kept coming up behind you
23:00So
23:02Very true
23:04You've got to concentrate
23:06Yes you're right
23:08It reduces the quality of the work
23:10That wasn't your fault
23:12Good point thank you
23:14I appreciate that
23:16Are they on display in your house
23:18I have them tucked away
23:20Do you always save things from movies
23:22Did you keep anything from the substance
23:24When people see the film
23:26You'll see the drug that we're given
23:28Is this kind of fluorescent green yellow
23:30Substance
23:32And it says the activator on it
23:34And I have one of those
23:36Listen it's terrific
23:38I hope people flock to the cinema to see it
23:40The substance
23:42It's out in cinemas now
23:44Okay we're moving on
23:46Colin Farrell
23:48Oh sorry
23:50We're still just talking
23:52The Penguin
23:54Critically acclaimed
23:56Already a huge viewing hit
23:58The first episode is already out there
24:00And new episodes drop on Monday on Sky
24:02And now
24:04We first saw you as a penguin in the movie
24:06The Robert Pattinson movie
24:08So it begins
24:10Is it a week after the end of the first movie
24:12Yes at the end of the first film

31:28Je suis née à New York.
31:29Tu es de cette partie du monde.
31:30C'est... Tu l'as fait.
31:32Tu l'as fait.
31:52Il y a beaucoup d'incertitude
31:54dans la vie et dans la psychologie.
31:56J'ai hâte de voir ton film.
31:58J'ai hâte de voir le tien aussi.
32:00Je suis une grande fan de ton travail.
32:02Je veux dire, tout le monde ici.
32:04Je veux dire, honnêtement.
32:06C'est vrai.
32:08Je veux dire.
32:10Prends-le.
32:12Je vous rappelle, Colin Farrell
32:14continue son voyage
32:16comme le pingouin
32:18sur Sky & Now chaque dimanche.
32:20C'est l'avantage ici.
32:22C'est l'avantage.
32:30Richard Ayobadi a écrit un livre, tout le monde.
32:32Oui, il l'a écrit.
32:34Il a écrit 4 livres.
32:36Maintenant,
32:38soyez prudents.
32:40C'est appelé The Unfinished Herald News.
32:42C'est sorti le 3ème octobre.
32:44Commençons.
32:46Qui est Harold Hughes?
32:48Harold Hughes est un
32:50très important playwright.
32:52Un playwright britannique après la guerre.
32:54J'ai rencontré son travail
32:56dans un boutique.
32:58Je me suis rendu compte qu'il ressemblait à moi.
33:00C'est une peinture d'Harold Hughes?
33:02C'est une peinture. Il ressemble à moi.
33:04Il ressemble à toi.
33:06Oui, merci.
33:08C'est comme le portrait de Dorian Gray.
33:10C'est très similaire.
33:12C'est comme un documentaire
33:14sur mon voyage pour trouver
33:16Harold Hughes. Il n'existe pas.
33:18Je dois le dire.
33:20C'est très compliqué.
33:22Il y a beaucoup de tension.
33:24Le livre s'agit
33:26d'un personnage ridicule
33:28qui s'est arrêté à écrire.
33:30Il y a un mystère
33:32et je veux savoir
33:34pourquoi il s'est arrêté à écrire.
33:36Voici le truc.
33:38C'est la voyage de ton documentaire
33:40pour résoudre le mystère d'Harold Hughes
33:42qui a écrit
33:44beaucoup de scénarios, des livres,
33:46des poèmes, tout ce genre de choses.
33:48Mais ces livres existent.
33:50Donc tu as écrit aussi
33:52tous les scénarios d'Harold Hughes.
33:54C'est ça.
33:56C'est la compétition de ses scénarios,
33:58ses poèmes et ses poèmes.
34:00Et ce sont ses novellas.
34:02Il y a des mots là-dedans.
34:04Il y a des belles images d'Harold Hughes
34:06à l'arrière.
34:08Est-ce que c'est le script
34:10que tu veux que Colin te joue?
34:12Non, c'est un autre script.
34:14Plus fort, plus original.
34:16On a les prothèses
34:18pour toi.
34:20Ne t'inquiète pas, c'est racialement sensé.
34:22C'est bon.
34:24Tu ne t'endommageras pas.
34:26J'ai écrit
34:28tout ce que Harold Hughes
34:30a écrit en ordre
34:32parce que j'avais beaucoup de temps.
34:34Je pense que Demi Moore aimerait
34:36qu'on regarde dans ton cerveau.
34:38C'est fascinant.
34:40Tu as écrit tout d'abord?
34:42Oui.
34:44Pourquoi?
34:46Parce que j'avais besoin
34:48de savoir qui il était
34:50par ce qu'il a écrit.
34:52La question pourquoi
34:54suggère pourquoi tu t'es inquiété.
34:56Non!
34:58C'est une question clé.
35:00C'est une question importante.
35:02Mais j'ai toujours voulu faire
35:04quelque chose comme
35:06un film de la famille Salinger
35:08ou comme Spinal Tap.
35:10J'aime vraiment leurs enregistrements.
35:12J'aime les enregistrements
35:14et j'aime les documentaires
35:16où les mondes de la comédie
35:18peuvent sortir et devenir plus grands.
35:20Est-ce qu'il y a quelque chose
35:22que beaucoup d'entre vous
35:24ont apprécié dans tout ce travail?
35:26Est-ce qu'il y a des anecdotes
35:28ou des histoires
35:30de ta vie réelle?
35:32C'est un peu frustrant.
35:34J'ai pris ça de ma vie.
35:36Est-ce que tu as découvert
35:38quelque chose de toi-même?
35:40C'est le truc.
35:42Le livre est vraiment
35:44sur le fait de continuer à écrire.
35:46Et en quelque sorte,
35:48j'ai répondu à cette question
35:50avec ce livre.
35:52Je vais annoncer mon retirement.
35:54C'est ça.
35:56C'est excitant.
35:58Je crois que tu as porté
36:00beaucoup de poésie musculaire
36:02et puissante,
36:04ainsi que des films
36:06très importants.
36:08J'ai demandé à Colin
36:10s'il m'accompagnerait.
36:12C'est un poème en deux mains.
36:14C'est appelé
36:16The Breakdown.
36:18Vous avez tous une caméra
36:20que vous pouvez regarder.
36:22Désolé.
36:24J'ai besoin d'un personnage.
36:26Désolé.
36:28C'est parti.
36:30Excellent.
36:48OK.
36:50C'est appelé The Breakdown.

46:36Mon ami Roxanne a dit
46:38« Regarde, Brett, c'est un oiseau. »
46:40J'ai regardé et je lui ai dit
46:42« Non, Rox, c'est un baboune.
46:44On ne voit pas ça.
46:46« Rox, c'est un baboune.
46:48On doit y aller. »
