00:06-"Baby's here to stay."
00:11Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking over everything you need to know about the
00:15Paramount Psychological Thriller, Apartment 7A.
00:17-"I think this belonged to your old tenant.
00:21She skipped out of here like Cinderella at midnight."
00:26It's a prequel to Rosemary's Baby.
00:27-"This is so much bigger than me, and I can't run from it."
00:32Yup.
00:33Apartment 7A isn't just a new original film.
00:35It serves as a prequel to the 1968 horror classic, Rosemary's Baby.
00:40-"This is no dream, this is really happening!"
00:43The film, which was based on Ira Levin's novel of the same name, starred Mia Farrow as Rosemary
00:48Woodhouse, a newlywed living in Manhattan with her husband Guy.
00:52Rosemary becomes pregnant, but begins to suspect that all is not as it seems, namely that her
00:57neighbors are members of a satanic cult, grooming her for use in their demonic rituals.
01:02-"I don't believe you, you're both lying.
01:06You're lying!"
01:07A critical and commercial hit, Rosemary's Baby received plenty of award recognition,
01:12securing its place amid the greatest horror films of all time.
01:15The movie's ending alone is among the genre's most legendary.
01:18-"What have you done to it?
01:20What have you done to its eyes?"
01:23-"He has his father's eyes."
01:25Apartment 7A will explore the chilling events at the notorious Bramford Building prior to
01:29Rosemary's arrival, revealing the true extent of the evil that lurks within.
01:34-"Hail, Adrian!"
01:35-"Hail, Adrian!"
01:36-"Hail, Satan!"
01:37-"Hail, Satan!"
01:38-"Hail, Adrian!"
01:39From a team of horror specialists.
01:41Apartment 7A brings together a formidable team for this new haunting experience, including
01:45the producers behind the post-apocalyptic horror sensation A Quiet Place.
01:54They include That John Krasinski, Alison Seeger, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller.
02:00The film is directed and co-written by Natalie Erica James, best known for her 2020 horror
02:05film Relic, which was praised for its quote, atmospheric tension and quote, psychological
02:11dread.
02:12Apartment 7A stands as a joint venture between production companies Paramount Players, Sunday
02:17Night Productions, and Platinum Dunes, the latter of which has an impressive horror legacy,
02:22including films like The Purge, and the 2009 continuation of the slash-happy Friday the
02:2713th franchise, The Cast.
02:32Much like Rosemary's Baby, the cast of Apartment 7A boasts a mix of seasoned talent and fresh
02:38faces.
02:39Leading the charge is Julia Garner, the Emmy-winning actress who made waves on Ozark and the true
02:44crime miniseries Inventing Anna.
02:46Garner takes the role of the wide-eyed protagonist, a young woman named Terry Gennofrio who has
02:51ambition running through her veins.
02:56Joining her is the multi-award-winning Diane Wiest and veteran actor Kevin McNally.
03:01Together, the pair play the infamous cast of Et's, Minnie and Roman, a wealthy couple
03:06at the Brantford apartment building.
03:10Fan-favorite actor Jim Sturgis also stars as the mysterious Broadway producer Alan Marchand.
03:15Additional supporting cast members include Marlee Sue, Andrew Buchan, and Rosie McEwan,
03:19among others.
03:21While Apartment 7A features plenty of chilling revelations that you'll need to uncover
03:28for yourself, we can share some details of its storyline.
03:31The film centers on Terry Gennofrio, a driven young dancer with dreams of making it big
03:36in New York City.
03:39However, after suffering a devastating ankle injury, her aspirations also appear to be
03:48shattered.
03:49Her dreams don't always come true.
03:53That is, until an older couple offers her a place to stay in their home.
03:57That home happens to be in the luxury apartment building, the Brantford.
04:01We want to help.
04:03The place is yours if you want it.
04:06When fellow resident and powerful Broadway figure Alan extends her a second shot at stardom,
04:11it seems her dreams might finally be coming true.
04:13However, following a, shall we say, hazy night, unsettling events begin to make her
04:18question the price of her ambition.
04:26This comes with the realization that something truly evil is at play.
04:31Setting
04:32Look, moving into my own place feels like a first step.
04:35Set in 1965 New York City, Apartment 7A captures the same period as its predecessor Rosemary's
04:41Baby.
04:42And as you'll discover, the films converge seamlessly.
04:46The New York of this period might have had a gritty edge, to put it mildly, but it was
04:50far from dull.
05:00The film portrays the city as a bustling center for aspiring stars and artists alike.
05:05It's filled with people from all walks of life who are committed to their passions,
05:09dreams and ideals.
05:10As the saying goes, if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.
05:24Of course, the city's ever-present dangers are also vividly depicted.
05:28And for Terry, it doesn't take long for those dangers to find her.
05:33Unfortunately for her, she's ripe for the picking.
05:37Rosemary's Baby
05:44As a prequel, Apartment 7A doesn't require prior knowledge of Rosemary's Baby, but for
05:48those familiar with the original film, you will find plenty of connections.
05:53Not to mention answers to long-standing questions.
06:01As noted earlier, this prequel sees Julia Garner depicting Terry Genofrio.
06:05While this is Garner's first time playing the character, it's not the first time audiences
06:09have encountered Terry.
06:15In Rosemary's Baby, Terry, then portrayed by Angela Dorian, is revealed to be recovering
06:20from a substance use disorder.
06:32She later meets a tragic end by way of an open window.
06:36Moviegoers were never given concrete answers to this disturbing turn of events.
06:40That is, until now.
06:42Apartment 7A sheds light on Terry's backstory, revealing the truth behind her supposed substance
06:47use and grim fate.
06:49Terry is certainly not the only returning character, however.
06:52Among Rosemary's Baby's familiar residents, it's the now-notorious Castavette couple
06:56that is most heavily featured, with Diane Wiest and Kevin McNally taking over the parts
07:01from Ruth Gordon and Sidney Blackmer, respectively.
07:19The film also fills in the blanks as it relates to the ill-fated Mrs. Gardenia, the old woman
07:24who used to live in the apartment that the Woodhouses move into in Rosemary's Baby.
07:45As for the Bramford, Apartment 7A delves deeper into its mysteries, revealing more dark truths
07:50about its numerous apartments and hidden secrets.
07:54The building serves as the nexus for the film's supernatural elements, becoming the ideal
07:58location for Satan's progeny.
