00:00He got word of some mummies in Peru that didn't look human.
00:03This is Unveiled, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 UFO and alien hoaxes.
00:09I just don't believe them, no.
00:11But their best evidence was less than convincing.
00:13And who knows, maybe one day someone will shoot a video of an actual alien coming down,
00:18in which case hopefully it'll be better than the ones we're seeing now.
00:21For this list, we'll be looking at infamous alien or UFO encounters that have since been
00:25thoroughly, if disappointingly, debunked.
00:28Do you need the big questions answered?
00:30Are you constantly curious?
00:32Then why not subscribe to Unveiled for more clips like this one?
00:35And ring the bell for more thought-provoking content!
00:3810.
00:39Crop Circles
00:40A term coined in the 1980s, crop circles were long held as proof of aliens visiting our planet.
00:46There are theories of extraterrestrial visitation, there are lots of theories about
00:52aquifers, these underground water systems that carry forces of energy,
00:58there are theories of portals to other dimensions within the Earth.
01:03These geometric patterns appear in large fields with no apparent trace of where they came from.
01:08Or at least they did, until the hoaxers came out to take credit for their handiwork.
01:12In 1991, Doug Bauer and Dave Chorley admitted to having created many of these crop circles
01:18using simple tools, just rope, a plank, and a baseball cap with a loop of wire.
01:23We wanted to make the UFO society think that a UFO had landed, you see.
01:27And after a few years, they didn't know whether to believe it or not.
01:32Since then, crop circles have come to be considered more of a fringe form of art
01:35than any type of message from the heavens.
01:37So the idea is that perhaps some of these crop circles indeed are messages from elsewhere.
01:46And elsewhere, in my opinion, means of extraterrestrial origin.
01:51They may look cool from above, but they're made right here on Earth.
01:56Number 9. The London Mothership and Fleet
01:59In June of 2011, video footage was released showing bright objects flying over London.
02:05As usual, some believers were quick to jump on the bandwagon and claim these to be genuine UFOs.
02:10Why? Well, because it's on the internet, we guess.
02:14However, the footage isn't dated and was uploaded anonymously.
02:18Furthermore, as experts have pointed out, the blobs or crafts are so small and blurry
02:24that they'd be incredibly easy to fake even with rudimentary knowledge of VFX.
02:29There's no additional footage of them, either.
02:42Number 8. Jerusalem Lights
02:442011 sure was a good year for dubious UFO sightings.
02:48In February, video footage of a purported UFO over Jerusalem went viral.
02:53Much like our previous entry, there's not much in the way of detail.
02:57The dot of light could easily be faked with computer software.
03:00According to a report from the HuffPost, one clear sign that the video is, in fact,
03:04a hoax is that nothing else is moving during the entire video.
03:08It's theorised that it was actually made using a still photo with animation drawn on top of it.
03:14The Bad UFOs blog also analysed the video and highlighted several elements, giving it away.
03:20Number 7. UFOs over India
03:23In 2016, this viral photo caused a stir on social media.
03:27The image seemingly depicted a giant flying saucer hovering over the state of Uttar Pradesh
03:32in northern India. The photo had been uploaded by a mobile device and, well,
03:36that's really all we know about the source. Given that there was no other sightings of a
03:40massive craft in the air, local authorities did their best to put people's worries at ease.
03:45We're not sure what makes this less credible, the fact that it looks just like a scene from
03:49Independence Day, or that no one else seemed to recall seeing something that giant floating in the sky.
04:00Number 6. The Chile Video
04:02In 2010, an apparent UFO was caught on camera at a US Air Force base in Chile. It was reportedly
04:09only seen on camera after the videographer slowed the footage down and noticed it later. However,
04:14when you watch the playback, it's nothing more than a handful of black dots that seem to appear
04:19at random. The clarity of the images is really poor, even by the low standards of UFO sightings.
04:24Furthermore, no eyewitnesses reported seeing anything other than the actual planes flying
04:29in the air. Under scrutiny, the footage in the video has been dismissed as likely being
04:33little more than minor defects in the video, or even bugs in the foreground.
04:38Number 5. Aliens Invade Haiti
04:42Is this video legit?
04:47Nope, but at least it's more creative than most. In 2007, videos of several UFOs floating over
04:53Haiti began to appear. Many thought that these were some of the best videos of UFOs ever seen.
04:59Was this the proof that we'd been looking for? Sadly, no. As it turns out, the footage was
05:05created as part of some test video for a feature film the original poster had been working on.
05:11This was later backed up by film producer George Berman, who worked with the artist who had
05:16created the videos. It was just a case of Hollywood special effects accidentally tricking the public.
05:22It took him about 17 hours to make the videos and they are 100% fake.
05:27Number 4. Mexico's Mold Earth
05:30In 2017, Mexican journalist and ufologist Jaime Maussan announced the discovery in
05:35Peru of alien mummies. Pretty exciting, right? Well, don't celebrate just yet.
05:40Maussan's first images looked incredibly contrived, to say the least. However,
05:46he participated in a documentary, Unearthing Nazca, that revealed a more realistic example,
05:52found by some guy named Mario, apparently.
06:01Sadly, based on x-rays, experts suspect that this is an actual Peruvian mummy who'd been
06:06butchered to superficially resemble an extraterrestrial. Maussan has made such
06:11false claims before, presenting a photographic slide of a supposedly alien mummy that turned
06:16out to be a child in 2015. He's involved with a website, Gaia.com, that charges a subscription
06:23fee for access to content, including about his latest mummy.
06:28Number 3. Dead alien in Russia
06:31You decide to go for a stroll through the snowy landscape of eastern Siberia.
06:35Suddenly, just below a tree trunk, you find something unusual.
06:42With camera in hand, you take a closer look and are surprised to find what looks like an
06:47alien body curled up on the ground. This is the surreal experience that two Russian men had in
06:532011, or so they wanted people to believe. After racking up millions of views on YouTube, the
06:58video began receiving more scrutiny. It's an impressive-looking hoax, made from what looks
07:02like gelatin and raw chicken or some other meat. But who breaks out into laughter when they think
07:08they've just found an alien? Number 2. English spaceship landings
07:12We have to give props to these students. They really went out of their way to test how people
07:17would react to UFOs. In September of 1967, a series of humming metallic saucers were found
07:24in the Isle of Sheppey off the coast of England. They were so convincing that local authorities
07:29got involved. Police were reportedly fearful, but blew one up and drilled inside another.
07:34Soon after, their true origin came out. Apprentices at Farnborough's Royal Aircraft
07:39Establishment had created and distributed the objects to see how law enforcement would react.
07:45It garnered far more attention than they'd expected, but in the end, their experiment
07:49was a success. Number 1. Alien autopsy film
07:53Ray Santilli took out a tape, he popped it into a machine, and my mouth dropped open.
08:01In 1995, Fox Television aired a special entitled Alien Autopsy, Factor Fiction. Hosted by Jonathan
08:09Frakes of Star Trek The Next Generation fame, it was allegedly a real video of an alien from
08:14Roswell being autopsied. Watched by millions of viewers, the black and white footage became a hot
08:20topic in the UFO community. However, in 2006, the filmmaker, Ray Santilli, admitted that the video
08:28was fake. However, he claimed it was a recreation of actual footage of an alien autopsy that had
08:34become unusable. Of course, the original footage has never been seen nor verified by any credible
08:40source. What do you think? Is there anything we missed? Let us know in the comments, check out
08:45these other clips from Unveiled, and make sure you subscribe and ring the bell for our latest content.
