One of the more mysterious collectables in the game. Here's where to find all 10 rock carvings in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Transcript
00:00There are plenty of collectibles to gather in Red Dead Redemption 2, and one of the more
00:07mysterious ones are the rock carvings, which are strange images engraved into the stones
00:12found throughout the world. Here's where to find all ten.
00:21This mission begins when you speak to Francis Sinclair, a stranger that you'll find outside
00:26his cabin north-west of Strawberry. Once you've mailed him the tenth set of coordinates
00:45you'll be able to complete this particular stranger mission by reading his invitation
00:49and then visiting him again at this cabin.
00:54We'll start hunting for these near Strawberry and work our way around the map anti-clockwise,
00:58from west to east, so you should be able to pick them up in one long ride.
01:03The first is possibly the most awkward of all of the rock carvings to actually collect.
01:07This one is located on the south-west shore of O'Angela Lake, to the west of Strawberry
01:12itself. It's engraved on the highest rock pile here, but although you can get up close
01:16and personal, you'll need to stand on the shore for the prompt to actually appear.
01:26The second is near Mount Shan. Follow the path that takes you towards the summit and
01:31keep following it until you're right under the T on the map and the road makes a bit
01:35of a snake shape as it turns down the mountain. Here you'll not only find some giant bones,
01:40but a second rock carving on the right of the rocks above the path.
01:49Next head to the cliffs of Limpeny and head to the southern end of them. Here, overlooking
01:54that burnt out settlement, recessed deep in the cliff face, you'll find your third rock
01:58carving. For the fourth, head to the southern point
02:13of Moonstone Pond, to the south of Grizzlies East in Amberino. Then go towards the area
02:19where the ground rises to the south-east of the pond. Make your way up the side using
02:23the little grass path and then aim for the rocky outcrops beyond. Move past the first
02:32one and then make your way towards the second large outcrop, but duck down the path that
02:37juts off to the right before it. Follow the grass around and you'll see the
02:44pyramid themed rock carving in the stones in front of you. For the fifth one, head to
02:59the northern shore of the Elysian Pool. From here, head east and you'll see a rather
03:05large rock carving high up on the jutting cliff to your left if you're on the path.
03:18The sixth can be found east of Deer Cottage. Once you arrive here, follow the path up a
03:22bit until you can access the rock face behind it. Move along the first level of the cliff
03:30face and the rock carving is right there, just loitering above Deer Cottage.
03:49The seventh is on a cliff face on a peak south-west of Bacchus Station and north-east of Fort
03:54Wallace. Follow the road up to the north-east from Fort Wallace until you see an unmarked
03:58path snake up a large hill. Head up here until you reach two stone peaks. Pass between
04:10them and then follow the path around to the left. When the path splits, go downhill and
04:21the rock carving is engraved onto the cliff to your left. For the eighth one, follow the
04:41road that turns east above the sea in Cumberland Forest on the map until you reach a broken
04:47rope bridge. Now turn back on yourself and make sure you go up into the trees on the
04:54cliff above. Head to the edge and you'll see another ledge below. Drop down there and
05:13then walk to the edge where you'll find the rock carving on the cliff face to your left,
05:17directly above the rope bridges. The ninth one is also near a wooden bridge. On the bank on
05:31the left-hand side of the Wynyard Strait, where the wooden bridge crosses it, is the ninth rock
05:36carving. Engraved on the stone a few feet up the thin path from the bridge. And finally,
05:54to find the tenth rock carving, follow the map up into Mount Hagen until the point is about to
05:59reach its natural conclusion. The rock carving is pretty obvious from the path there on the
06:04rock face to your right. So that's where to find all ten Red Dead Redemption 2 rock carvings.
06:17All that's left to do now is send your findings back to Francis Sinclair. A note though,
06:22if you hand in all ten coordinates at once, you'll have to retrieve your mail over a number
06:26of in-game days. The first time you get it, you'll get the $10 reward and Kentucky bourbon
06:31that you would have got for handing in one set of coordinates, and you'll also get the rock statue
06:35that you get for handing in five. Then you'll have to go back again a little later to collect
06:39Francis Sinclair's invitation letter. Once you have it, head back to Sinclair's cabin near
06:44Strawberry to discover the true meaning of the rock carvings.
07:15My husband? He's dead. He's been dead since just before Francis was born one year ago.
07:23Your husband Francis is dead? No, this is Francis. My husband Tom is dead.
07:32Uh, I'm a little confused. Yes, I think you are. What was your name?
07:38Uh, that's not important. Excuse me.
07:44So, what's actually happened here? Well, it seems that Francis Sinclair is a baby,
07:49now. But the guy you saw at the beginning of this mission is also Francis Sinclair,
07:54but from the future. If you study all the documents pinned up on the wall,
07:58which are the same images as the rock carvings, it seems like Francis has been travelling through
08:03time portals and going on little adventures, but coming back to this Wild West timeline
08:08to record them. Why is another question, as is the location of the portal he's using now.
08:14Is it possible to find it in the world? Maybe. It's certainly something to investigate,
08:19and please let us know your theories in the comments below.
