00:03Sadly for a former Philippine National Police or PNP chief, these images, he says, are being

00:08made to look and see more than what they truly were.

00:11Mirror photo opportunities and nothing more.

00:13Patrick de Azuz has the details.

00:31This was the response of former PNP chief, Retired General Benjamin Acorda Jr., after

00:38being questioned in the Senate hearing about the photos released by Senator Risa Hondeveros,

00:44in which the former official was seen with personalities linked to Pogo, including Tony

00:50Young and Wesley Goh, the brother of Alice Goh.

00:53During the Senate hearing, Young confirmed personally knowing Acorda, since the latter

00:59served as chief of Cagayan de Oro City Police and regional director of Police Regional Office

01:0510.

01:06When the photos were taken, Acorda insists the photos should not be the basis for drawing

01:12conclusions.

01:13He claims he's never engaged in any illegal transaction, especially since he himself ordered

01:20the raid on the Pogo compound in Bambantarlac last March.

01:24Now, with regards to the pictures near Pogo, I did not talk about Pogo, I have no friends

01:33related to Pogo.

01:34During that time, when the photos were taken, you know what is the stand of the government

01:40during that time.

01:41And even if that is the stand of the government during that time, I don't know if Mr. Young

01:46has Pogo affiliation.

01:48The former PNP chief stood his ground, stating his conscience is clear and claims he has

01:54no connections to Pogo.

01:56However, Acorda admitted being hurt by the quick judgments made against him.

02:01It really hurts because for 37 years, I tried to keep my records clean, but just for one

02:08picture or many pictures, and with so many innuendos, it was destroyed immediately.

02:16But that is part of the service.

02:20I can face anybody squarely, eye to eye, without flinching an eye, that I can say we are clean

02:26there.

02:27That's why I left.

02:28We have nothing to do there.

02:29When he ran away, I did not accept money from him.

02:33I hope our countrymen will have a broad mind, many things happened behind the curtains.

02:40The Senate will invite General Acorda to the next hearing regarding Pogo operations.

02:46General Acorda is the second PNP chief of the current administration, having served

02:52from April 2023 to March of this year.

02:56The issue has become a hot item, especially with allegations a former PNP chief allegedly

03:03helped Alice Goh escape and even received payoffs.

03:08But PADCOR Senior Vice President, Retired General Raul Villanueva clarified this information

03:14is nothing but rumor or hearsay.
