00:00My name is Julie Tuahau. I live in Brangaisalaisai, the district of Davao City.
00:15I work as a cleaner.
00:19I also grow rice, corn and other crops.
00:31When I was young, I used to live here.
00:36I used to live here when I was young.
00:39When my mother passed away, this is where I lived.
00:54The Philippine Eagle is very special because it is a national bird of the Philippines.
00:59It can only be seen in the Philippines.
01:06If we look at the Philippine Eagle, it is one of the most beautiful and elegant birds in the world.
01:13Unfortunately, our national bird is still critically endangered.
01:18This means that if this generation does not take action, it could be totally extinct.
01:30The Philippine Eagle
01:55This is Mangayon.
01:57This is where he was shot.
02:01The wound here went through and through.
02:13When he arrived in Davao, his blood loss was too much.
02:20So he died in your arms?
02:23Yes.
02:25It's not a nice thing to experience at all.
02:28Because every eagle counts.
02:30Every eagle, even if it dies, there's a story to be told.
02:41In our studies, we estimate that we have 392 pairs of wild Philippine Eagles.
02:52The first important obstacle in the life of the Philippine Eagle is the loss of the forest.
03:05The second obstacle is, of course, the shooting.
03:12There is still a hunting culture, especially in our communities in the uplands.
03:20But despite the threat status of our Philippine Eagles,
03:24there are also many communities that help protect the Philippine Eagles and their ancient nesting sites.
03:32Thank you for watching Eyewitness, Kapuso.
