leadership candidate Tom Tugendhat has condemned the government's refusal to reverse the winter fuel payment cut for pensioners after facing a growing backlash. Sir Keir Starmer warned of a "hard path ahead" in his first speech as prime minister at the Labour conference in Liverpool. "What they've done is they've decided to take money from vulnerable pensioners and give it to the union paymasters. That's a decision and that's a choice that this Labour government has made," Mr Tugendhat said. Report by Kennedyl.
