Cameroon v Colombia Round of 16 23-06-1990

Transcript
00:00Thank you, Nick. Yes, we're down to the serious business of the World Cup, and today ITV, in association with National Power, brings you the most unlikely second round match I think any of us imagined.
00:10Cameroon, the most successful African team of the last decade against Colombia, the side that really came back from the dead against West Germany.
00:18It's the most colourful scene imaginable here, with Colombia in the bright yellow shirts and blue shorts, Cameroon in the green shirts and red shorts.
00:27And I just heard Ian St John laughing there about the Colombian commentator saying I can tell you that he was here practising at 11 o'clock this morning.
00:36We came into the stadium and there was a terrific din, and the Colombian commentator was actually sitting in his seat on his own, screaming away and practising commentary on a goal.
00:46I hope he gets the chance to use the voice in full throat.
00:52Billy McNeil, it really is a vivid scene, this one. It's a shame that the crowd isn't as big as everybody here in Naples had hoped. I think they'd anticipated Argentina being here.
01:01Well, I think this section was set up that way, but all credit to the Camerooners. They've really excited everyone, and for me in particular, I'm looking forward very, very much to seeing them this afternoon.
01:12They have the first free kick of the match, and it's fired in, and the header came in as well, from Mabouang, the man who's been included in preference to Massing.
01:24Colombia here with Freddy Rincón, the hero against West Germany.
01:30Escobar sweeping the ball to his right, to Alvarez.
01:36Alvarez, an interesting character, actually talked of as a trialist for Derby County last season.
01:47Valderrama, first time we've seen him. Highly identifiable.
01:53I think the other thing that's important to tell you back home is that it is a scorcher down here in Naples, in the south of Italy. It is 88 degrees down there, we reckon, at the moment.
02:06As we see some spectacular goalkeeping. He can't touch the ball, and this is interesting. We were expecting the fun and games at the other end from Higuita, and it's Thomas N'Kono who gives us the first little amusing incident.
02:20And that one's badly given, and Estrada, and the save made. Estrada was onside, and as well for Cameroon, that N'Kono was alert to that situation, the first really dangerous moment of the game.
02:36And I think even Estrada was a little surprised to find himself in that situation.
02:41Yes, it looked as though he was offside to me when the pass came through, but marvellous chance, and really...
02:46The Estadio Sao Paulo, which has seen so many famous matches over the years, and of course the home these days of the World Cup.
02:53Estrada, and Valderrama, and the ball back in, and the referee looks as the arms are raised, and says no penalty.
02:59It'll be interesting to see that one again.
03:01Colombia, meanwhile, try to keep the ball back in.
03:03Estrada, and Valderrama, and the ball back in, and the referee looks as the arms are raised, and says no penalty.
03:19It'll be interesting to see that one again.
03:21Colombia, meanwhile, try to keep up the momentum.
03:24This is a good spell for them.
03:25Alvarez, struggling to get on the outside of Onana, and has a corner.
03:37So a few Cameroon hearts stop beating for a moment there.
03:41The referee turned out to be on their side.
03:49And Kono looks to be perspiring a little down there, not surprising in 88 degrees of heat.
03:55And with the pressure on.
04:08Colombia's corner.
04:10Both sides still looking to make the first break.
04:13It'll come back to Alvarez.
04:18They look for another cross, and this is a better one, and Rincon was holding the defender, and the free kick is Cameroon.
04:25Well, it would have been interesting to see a replay of that incident.
04:33We don't have any power over that.
04:35But, Billy, certainly the Colombians shouted enthusiastically.
04:39I think perhaps a little over-enthusiastically.
04:41Yes, I thought the referee was right.
04:43I thought it was a good time tackle.
04:45It was an interesting little bit of play that they had beforehand, because they're good at this close-passing game.
04:50And round about the box, if they can get one or two shut-lock passes, they get in behind defenders and cause a problem.
04:56The first 20 minutes have been completed without a goal.
05:02He's gone on the wrong side of the defender.
05:04The referee says play on Estrada.
05:06He's not yet got on the outside of Dipperkamp, the defender who did his job well.
05:11Estrada looks dangerous, though, when he holds off people like that.
05:14There's good skill, and that is unlucky.
05:18Very good effort, indeed, from Luis Fajardo.
05:23Estrada started it all.
05:26And then, as he turned the ball back for Fajardo, a lovely little dink there.
05:31And a slashed shot across the face of the Cameroon goal.
05:36Yes, a beautiful little piece of skill there.
05:38And it wasn't all that far away.
05:40He just swerved away from the goal.
05:42Again, the passing letting them down.
05:45And it's taken on by Colombia.
05:47Everybody seems to be just stretching a little bit at the moment.
05:50And there's no freedom with the passing movements.
05:52And a free kick conceded once more.
05:55Won by Valderrama.
05:57The 29-year-old former South American footballer of the year.
06:00Who I'm sure wanted to make a great name for him here.
06:03For himself.
06:06This is Biic.
06:08He certainly did in that opening match against Argentina.
06:10And has the confidence to go past people.
06:12What a good run this is by Oman Biic.
06:14Can he finish it off?
06:16Can he set Makanaki up?
06:18A disappointing finish for Makanaki.
06:21Great work by Oman Biic though.
06:24Yes, he's a real big powerhouse.
06:26And he shows no little bit of skill here.
06:28Gets into the walls of that box.
06:30Looks up.
06:32Sees his teammate sitting there.
06:34Sets him up for the pass.
06:36And unfortunately just got too much of the ball there.
06:38But a lovely run from the big lad Biic.
06:47Again, Cameroon lose it rather too easily.
06:51The big man Pereira strides forward.
06:55And keeps going as well.
06:57It's not often you see him so far upfield.
07:01He'll have time to counter back.
07:06Well played by Mfedi.
07:08That's an award for Cameroon.
07:13There's not really been a bad tackle in the match.
07:21Good turn by Rincon.
07:23Finds Estrada.
07:25Cameroon funnelling men back hurriedly.
07:28The ball on is nicely weighted.
07:38Cameroon actually have had several players booked in this World Cup.
07:43And Karna Biic, the man we were talking about earlier,
07:45who was sent off against Argentina,
07:47was also booked on his comeback.
07:48So he can't afford another booking.
07:50He'll be out again.
07:57They do have actually five players, Cameroon, on a booking.
08:02Well won by Gomez.
08:04That's the sort of tenacity required.
08:06And a free kick.
08:08And having just said that there were no bookings,
08:10I think the referee might be considering
08:12the first of the afternoon.
08:19Well, let's see.
08:22It's Karna Biic.
08:24It's there again.
08:26So, it's the most familiar sight.
08:33Yes, disappointing one for him.
08:35But he's had a cut a lot of times.
08:37And this one's a bit severe
08:39because he's got no chance of getting the ball.
08:41Well, maybe not.
08:43Maybe he's just a little bit unlucky in actual fact.
08:45But an incredible record that he's got.
08:48Well, sent off in the opening game against Argentina.
08:51Booked in the last game
08:53on his comeback against the Soviet Union.
08:55Booked again.
08:57It means he'll be out of the quarterfinals
08:59if Cameroon do go through.
09:04So, the free kick for Colombia.
09:07So close to the break.
09:09Rincon will drive it in.
09:11Couldn't it have been more?
09:12The best moment of the half without question.
09:14And my goodness me.
09:16Did he smack that one?
09:18Tremendous strike.
09:20I've criticised free kicks,
09:22but he gets great power in this.
09:24He's most unlucky not to open up the scoring.
09:29Very unfortunate indeed.
09:32And that really would have lifted
09:34the Colombians going into halftime.
09:37They're still coming and looking.
09:39But it's a bit of a shame
09:40that they're still coming and looking.
09:43They've had the better of the half I would suggest.
09:46Estrada.
09:48Alvarez.
09:58And the referee points to the tunnel.
10:01It's halftime here in Naples.
10:03Don't forget we'll be hearing reaction
10:05from the England camp in Cagliari after the break.
10:07We have one quick look again
10:08at this free kick here from Freddy Rincon
10:11which nearly snapped the crossbar in two.
10:13But it stayed out
10:15as indeed every other effort has.
10:17We shall take a break now,
10:19but we'll be right back of course
10:21with reaction in London and in Cagliari.
10:23Halftime then in Naples.
10:25Cameroon nil, Colombia nil.
10:27I would think was quite happy
10:29with the way the first half went.
10:31In a moment you might see Bic come into your shot.
10:33He's just at the back of the two players
10:35as they prepare to kick off
10:36and he's heavily strapped
10:38for the resumption
10:40and away we go.
10:42Bic looks to be just
10:44limping a little bit Billy.
10:46He's certainly got heavy strapping on his knee.
10:49Perhaps a result of that last challenge
10:51when he was booked,
10:53but what a record he's got in the World Cup.
10:58He's the player with the ball now.
11:00This is him.
11:02So we'll watch out to see how long he can continue.
11:04But no changes then made
11:06by the coach on the resumption.
11:09And it was as Ian said
11:11quite exciting at times.
11:13It might be exciting now because
11:15Cameroon giving that ball away once more.
11:17Charles was saying there
11:19they were making too many elementary mistakes
11:21and a bit of ball watching going on.
11:24They really have got to tighten up
11:26in the second half.
11:28And a yellow card shown here again
11:30by the referee
11:33to Dipakem
11:34and he is another
11:36who had already been booked in this World Cup
11:39and so he too
11:41will be missing from the quarterfinals
11:43if Cameroon go through.
11:45They're making a bit of a mess of it
11:47in disciplinary terms.
11:51And they're for silly things as well.
11:55Good stretch there to
11:57keep the danger away.
11:59That will be a free kick.
12:01But really some of the free kicks have been.
12:02I think we both agreed
12:04that Biak was a little bit unlucky
12:06to get his booking.
12:07But that was just silly on the part of Dipakem.
12:09Yeah, well he's a wee bit unfortunate too, John.
12:11Obviously the ball's going in behind him.
12:13He thinks the player's on his way to goals.
12:15He just puts his hand up.
12:17It's often a natural reaction.
12:19Makanak is off.
12:21Offside that is.
12:25He's disappointed just a little bit, hasn't he?
12:27I know he's a young lad
12:29and perhaps maybe he's just a little bit
12:30over odd with his occasion.
13:01Escobar was the man who smacked it in.
13:07O'Connell who's been a real mixture
13:09in this World Cup.
13:10He was superb against Argentina.
13:12Not so clever against
13:14the Soviet Union.
13:15And here
13:17well it was at a perfect height for a goalkeeper.
13:22Agueli.
13:26Nipped on and
13:28nice little bit of interplay.
13:29Tato now through.
13:30Good ball as well.
13:31Great chance here
13:32and Cameron denied.
13:35It was a lovely ball through.
13:37Biak
13:38just couldn't finish it off.
13:41Credit to Higuita actually as well
13:43for putting him off his throat.
13:44Yeah, lovely pass through here.
13:46The big lad Tato
13:48plays a delicate little ball through.
13:50Well taken by Biak
13:52but he just can't get his foot to it.
13:54Can't get his foot around the ball
13:55to put it in the net.
13:56That was a real miss.
13:58And
13:59they will take off
14:00Louis-Paul Mfede
14:01to bring on Roger Miller
14:03and at least Billy
14:04it gives Roger Miller
14:05plenty of time to
14:06get himself into this game.
14:07The 38-year-old striker
14:09former African footballer
14:10of the year
14:12and one of the fairest stories
14:13of this World Cup so far.
14:16Yes, it certainly is but
14:18can't be of taking a positive step
14:20because it looks as though
14:21they're going to have two off
14:23instead of what they've been doing
14:24up until now.
14:26Number one to Boo.
14:28Nice ball.
14:29Good run by Miller
14:30and the goalkeeper Higuita
14:32almost caught Knapping.
14:33He took his eye actually
14:34off Miller there for a moment
14:35and Miller was sharp enough
14:36to see that.
14:39I think we're going to have
14:40some cut and thrust now.
14:42A rink on
14:43forward for Iguaran.
14:45Two inventive sides.
14:48Good run from Miller
14:49just a minute ago.
14:50Nice blindside run.
14:52Caught himself into position.
14:54Good position for shooting.
14:5720 minutes gone in the second half
14:59here in Naples.
15:01This first match in the second phase
15:03of Italia 90.
15:14Another free kick.
15:20The Italian referee
15:21perhaps just a
15:22little fussy at times.
15:26That's the pass and a good run.
15:31Higuita didn't look too clever.
15:33Almost fumbled it a little bit.
15:36Cameroon nil.
15:37Colombia nil.
15:39And as we've mentioned a time or two
15:40very, very hot down there
15:42on the pitch.
15:43Here is Valderrama
15:44the man we were talking about.
15:46Good turn by Escobar
15:47and I think he was looking
15:48for the free kick
15:49and the referee was not
15:50to be kidded then.
15:52Not to be hoodwinked
15:53and straight away at the other end
15:54Oman Bihic
15:55sandwiched and
15:56that will be a free kick.
15:58No more than a couple of yards
16:00outside
16:01the penalty area
16:03Oman Bihic
16:04and this time it's Perea
16:05and the first booking of the afternoon
16:06for a Colombian.
16:09And Luis
16:10Carlos Perea
16:12It's Bihic's pace again
16:13that causes the consternation.
16:15It's tremendous pace
16:16and
16:17you know
16:18if Cameroons can get
16:19that little ball over
16:20and behind their centre-backs
16:21he'll cause them problems.
16:23Perea got booked
16:24simply because of the power
16:25of the lad he's playing against.
16:27It's his first booking
16:28of the championship.
16:33The free kick
16:34Cameroon have lined up
16:36three men
16:38but they do like having a crack
16:39from long distance
16:40so don't be surprised to see
16:41anybody on the end of this one.
16:44Roger Miller
16:45looks as though he's going to try
16:46and tee somebody up.
16:49And indeed he does
16:50it's Jonkap
16:52straight at Higuita
16:53who got his positioning right
16:54and I think he saw it all the way too.
16:56Yes but
16:57they created the opening
16:58and
16:59it was a good enough shot
17:00but certainly Goki
17:01was right behind it.
17:02But one of the better free kicks.
17:03Well at least we got
17:05you see here he opens up
17:06the possibilities of a strike.
17:07Miller
17:09really would be cruel
17:10to either side
17:11to be beaten now
17:12at this late stage
17:13but Miller
17:14shows great skill.
17:16There were too many around him though
17:17and
17:18all credit to the organisation
17:19of the Colombians again there.
17:20Reading.
17:23Iguaran
17:24has there time yet for Colombia?
17:25Iguaran
17:26will think so.
17:29He's onside.
17:30Escobar
17:31a good cross now
17:32and they might just be in trouble.
17:33Escobar has done it.
17:34A good cross now
17:35and they might just be in trouble.
17:36Escobar has done really well.
17:38Wriggling his way through.
17:39Tried to do a bit too much himself perhaps.
17:45Just a little bit unfortunate there
17:46because
17:47he tried to make position
17:48to put in a good ball
17:50and indeed
17:51we are going to go
17:52into extra time.
17:54So here in Naples
17:55it's 0-0.
17:56We've had 90 minutes.
17:57Extra time coming up.
17:58We'll take a break.
18:01Thank you very much
18:02everybody in London.
18:05Interesting to hear
18:06Saints comments there
18:07about Valderrama.
18:08My comments are just that
18:09I've been disappointed
18:10at the player of his stature
18:11on a stage like the World Cup
18:13for the first time
18:15and I think we all expected
18:16perhaps
18:17perhaps a little bit too much of him
18:18former South American footballer
18:19of the year
18:21but the Colombians
18:22should have surprised
18:23no one really.
18:24I was talking about
18:25their record at home
18:26but they've also got
18:27a very good record
18:28away from home.
18:29They're on the attack
18:30straight away.
18:31They drew at Wembley
18:32a couple of years ago
18:33if you'll remember
18:341-1.
18:35They've also
18:36drawn with Brazil recently.
18:38That'll be a free kick
18:39and it'll be
18:40a free kick for Cameroon.
18:41Billy, I can't believe
18:42we were making it half time
18:43and a strange one maybe
18:44we always associate
18:45African footballers
18:46with great stamina
18:48and powers and resources
18:50and yet they seem
18:51the more tired of the two teams
18:52at the end of 90 minutes.
18:54Well it looks to me
18:55just a little bit that way.
18:56Perhaps they've had
18:57a bit more running about to do.
18:58Certainly Colombia
19:00are very well organised
19:01and
19:02they look very,
19:03very fit and sharp.
19:07Everybody back there
19:08is enjoying it.
19:09Although the score
19:10is 0-0
19:11there's been a lot of
19:12enjoyable football played.
19:14It's not been dull
19:15by any means.
19:16Here come Colombia
19:17missing out Valderrama
19:18that time
19:19although I don't think
19:20he intended to do so.
19:22John Koepp.
19:29It turned out to be
19:30a good ball indeed
19:31by Mamawang
19:32and Miller's offside.
19:37Officials kept on their toes.
19:38There was
19:39just one offside
19:40given in the second half
19:41which
19:42certainly the Cameroon's
19:44people didn't agree with
19:45and don't think that
19:46they would argue
19:47against that one.
19:51Yes, both he and
19:55this fellow beside him
19:57they're impressive defenders
19:58who they are.
19:59Here's the pace of Biak
20:00which will
20:01unhinge a lot of defences
20:02and here's a good chance.
20:03Mamawang's shot
20:05driven in at Higuita
20:06who again
20:07has got everything
20:08right behind it.
20:11Well, we talk about
20:12this goalkeeper
20:13as being different
20:14but he's also
20:15not a bad goalkeeper
20:16when it comes to stopping shots.
20:17This is a good
20:18flowing movement
20:19from Cameroon.
20:20Finished with a good shot.
20:22Good ball.
20:23Estrada still
20:24full of running.
20:27Still lively.
20:28Still wanting to do it.
20:30Still thinking
20:31and twisting,
20:32turning.
20:33Trying to manoeuvre
20:34an opening
20:35and getting the free kick.
20:38And Carnabaic
20:40has not really got
20:41very happy memories yet
20:42of the World Cup.
20:43Can see that
20:44he's not
20:45going to get
20:46the free kick
20:47and he's not
20:48going to get
20:49the free kick
20:50concedes another one.
20:53Got to be careful.
20:54He's on a yellow card.
20:58I think he just got
20:59a little bit frustrated
21:00by all of that
21:01and here's a good run.
21:02Now Reddin
21:03with the shot.
21:04Too high.
21:10And the referee
21:11signals the end
21:12of the first period
21:13of extra time.
21:15So Charles in London
21:16what are your feelings
21:17at the moment?
21:18Do you still feel
21:19you're only going to do it?
21:20Yeah, we're still
21:21hanging in there.
21:22We're hanging in there
21:23and I think
21:24they've given away
21:25so much now
21:26the Colombians.
21:27I don't know how much
21:28they've got left.
21:29Even though we're
21:30looking a little bit weary
21:31I think
21:32if we step up the gear
21:33for the next five
21:34or ten minutes
21:35we'll make that break.
21:36I still think
21:37there's going to be
21:38a winner
21:39before the penalty shootout.
21:40Before the penalty
21:41shootout.
21:42What about you Sainz?
21:43Well it's looking
21:44a nil-nil I think.
21:45John it looks to me
21:46like it's maybe a nil-nil
21:47because all the lads
21:48are going to be
21:49very tired.
21:50But when they are like that
21:51when teams get very tired
21:52somebody can make a mistake
21:53slip up in the penalty box.
21:54Estrada the number seven
21:55looks very strong
21:56for Colombia.
21:57He looks as if
21:58he might have a bit
21:59of running left in him.
22:00In fact the two number sevens
22:01still look strong
22:02don't they?
22:03Baik has had
22:04a very good game
22:05I think.
22:06Yes, we both think
22:07that Baik
22:08very, very quick.
22:09I wouldn't fancy
22:10having a sprint with him.
22:12I've seen you dashing
22:13around Sainz.
22:15OK, let's all settle down
22:16and enjoy the last
22:1715 minutes
22:18of actual play here.
22:20And then
22:21who knows it could well be
22:22a penalty shoot-out
22:23in this first match
22:24in the second phase
22:25in Naples.
22:27But I'm sure all those players
22:28will be hoping that
22:29just one of them
22:31can conjure up a goal
22:32from somewhere.
22:33There's that man.
22:34We were talking about Miller
22:35good turn.
22:36Miller inside the penalty area.
22:37He gets off the line.
22:38Roger Miller's done it.
22:42He's the only swinger in town.
22:47Roger Miller
22:48has got the Cameroon bench
22:50absolutely ecstatic.
22:55The former African footballer
22:56of the year
22:57carries on with his
22:58fairytale comeback.
23:01And didn't he take it well?
23:02Baik threading the ball through.
23:04It's taken so long in coming
23:06but wasn't it worth it?
23:08And Roger Miller
23:09is one of the best finishers
23:10in this World Cup.
23:13It's a lovely pass through
23:14but look at the quality
23:15of the control.
23:16Takes the last defender
23:17and attacks him
23:18just outside the box
23:19and what a fabulous finish.
23:2248 years of age.
23:23Tremendous.
23:24Absolutely tremendous.
23:25He's such an inspiration
23:27to Cameroon.
23:29Charlie I would imagine
23:30you're a little bit happy
23:31back there in London
23:32at the moment.
23:33Yeah I actually shouted
23:34you know.
23:36We heard you.
23:37Thanks.
23:38He did a laugh of honour John.
23:40I think you'll be playing
23:41when he's 42
23:42will this fellow won't he?
23:43Next World Cup yes.
23:45I think they've enjoyed it.
23:48We said last time
23:49they've been dancing
23:50in the streets of Yaoundé.
23:52They're certainly dancing
23:53here in Naples.
23:54And Roger Miller
23:55what a wonderful story
23:56this is.
23:57It's the story of the
23:58World Cup so far.
24:00St. Joseph get his
24:01two goals of course
24:02against Romania
24:03and I know you were
24:04particularly sort of
24:05enchanted by the fellow
24:06and it's a great story
24:07isn't it?
24:08Wonderful.
24:11Now then
24:12we've got some fun
24:13games now.
24:14Higuita's come about
24:1540 yards there
24:16to intercept.
24:20And he must be
24:21a worried man.
24:22Colombia
24:23with Estrada
24:24turning well
24:25and that's a free kick
24:26against
24:27the defender
24:28Onana.
24:33Well that's really
24:34set the atmosphere
24:35alight here in Naples.
24:37Roger Miller
24:38hoping to send
24:39Cameroon through
24:40to the quarter finals.
24:44No African country
24:45has ever gone that far.
24:48But it's not over yet.
24:49We've seen this
24:50sort of situation before
24:51and it's all on
24:52Colombia now.
24:53The onus
24:54very much on them
24:55to hit back.
24:56Well they've got
24:57it all to do now
24:58because that really
24:59was a marvellous goal
25:00and it's a goal
25:01befitting to win
25:02any game really
25:03but
25:04it'll be interesting
25:05to see how
25:06Colombia can handle it.
25:09They came back
25:10against West Germany.
25:12Can they do it again?
25:16I'm reminded at the moment
25:17of a comment made
25:18by Ben Newvens
25:19who is the
25:20Cameroon commentator
25:21and I say
25:22the Cameroon commentator
25:23he literally is that
25:24he's the number one man there
25:25but
25:26yes that's
25:27well done.
25:28He told me before
25:29the competition started
25:30that they are tremendous
25:31at protecting a lead.
25:33Once Cameroon get in front
25:34they rarely
25:36are caught
25:37from behind.
25:42Higuita
25:43seems to want to get involved
25:44I do not believe it.
25:46He's thrown the chances away
25:47now
25:48that's it.
25:502-0
25:51Roger Miller
25:52and that is always
25:53the danger.
25:56Roger Miller
25:57makes this World Cup
25:58belong
25:59to Cameroon.
26:02They know now
26:03that they're on their way
26:04I'm sure
26:05into the quarter finals.
26:06Higuita
26:07distraught.
26:08The Colombians
26:09can't believe it
26:10it's always threatened
26:11with anything like this
26:12whenever a goalkeeper
26:13tries to do anything
26:14like that
26:15there has got to be danger
26:17that he's going to be
26:19made to look at ass
26:20to be honest
26:21and I'm afraid he was there.
26:22Roger Miller
26:23second goal
26:24well I mean he takes
26:25an incredible chance here
26:26doesn't he?
26:27His team's just lost a goal
26:28tired legs
26:29he takes a chance at that.
26:30He deserves to be punished
26:31but
26:32that's not a fairy tale
26:33that Roger Miller's
26:34the one to do it.
26:36Well we talked about him
26:37earlier Billy
26:38and said
26:39we wouldn't really fancy him
26:40in the English league
26:41because he takes such risks
26:43and that's what happens
26:44you get punished.
26:46And
26:47René Higuita knows
26:48I think
26:49that he has
26:50Columbia the chance now
26:51of going any further
26:53in the World Cup 1990
26:55and for Cameroon yes
26:56well that picture
26:57tells the tale.
26:59Well it's a fairy tale
27:00isn't it?
27:01But you know
27:02they've competed very well
27:03they've brought excitement
27:04to the World Cup
27:05and I think they're entitled
27:06to be in this position now.
27:07And Roger Miller
27:08joins Michel of Spain
27:10as the joint
27:11top scorer
27:12in the World Cup
27:13at the age of 38.
27:15Four goals he's got
27:17both times coming on
27:18as a substitute.
27:19Well he's certainly
27:20all the swinger
27:21maybe not
27:22the Descos
27:23but certainly this World Cup.
27:25He certainly knows
27:26how to finish
27:27although that one really
27:28was put on a plate.
27:29And now
27:30those Cameroon supporters
27:31I think the celebrations
27:32will go on
27:33a long time tonight.
27:35The Colombians rattled
27:36and Cameroon
27:37I suppose they'll want more.
27:44I think I heard
27:45Charlie yell in London
27:46I think I saw him
27:47leap off his seat
27:48at the same time as well.
27:49And
27:50well he's given him offside
27:52surely not but
28:00Cameroon as we were saying
28:01are good at protecting a lead
28:02and they're also good
28:03at pushing the ball
28:04around up there.
28:05So
28:07Valderrama
28:08five minutes of extra time
28:09left.
28:10Colombia coming
28:11and looking for
28:12consolation maybe
28:13looking to get back into it
28:14with Iguaran.
28:15Here's Valderrama
28:16they've really got to try
28:17something a little bit different
28:18it might be Valderrama
28:19here's a chance
28:20Colombia have got
28:21one back
28:22it's 2-1
28:25and they can't wait
28:26to get on with the game
28:28but
28:31I thought for a moment
28:32the referee was going to
28:33disallow it.
28:34Surely not
28:35and they can't get back
28:36as I say quickly enough
28:37Bernardo Redin
28:38is the scorer
28:40and what a finish
28:41we've got now.
28:42Lovely piece of play
28:43Valderrama
28:44instrumental
28:45the perfect pass through
28:46Cameroon defends
28:47perhaps a little tired
28:48and Kono
28:49caught up the line
28:50Redin gets his second goal
28:52of the World Cup
28:53and it's now 2-1
28:54and a grandstand finish
28:55in prospect.
28:56It's a fabulous goal
28:57and again we see Valderrama
28:59the quality of his passing
29:00is best and what a
29:01lovely little finish.
29:02This is an interesting
29:03last five minutes
29:04we've got now isn't it?
29:06That's the understatement
29:07of the year.
29:08How's Charlie feeling
29:09back in London?
29:10It's just fair
29:11it's normal
29:12what's happened is normal
29:13you know we inflicted
29:14them some punishment
29:15and it's time we get
29:16some back but
29:17we're still in the lead.
29:19You are indeed.
29:22It's a free kick
29:23for Colombia though.
29:25Well it tends to
29:26happen this
29:27you can go 90 minutes
29:28without a goal
29:29and then all of a sudden
29:30this fellow Roger Miller
29:31gets two for Cameroon.
29:33Valeri Nopomniacic
29:34has a few
29:36anxious moments
29:37to survive it.
29:40You don't get many
29:41smiles out of
29:42the Soviet coach.
29:45He surely will afford
29:46as one if
29:47Cameroon go through
29:48and
29:49oh dearie me
29:51this looks like
29:52another booking
29:53and
29:55Cameroon
29:56as you said earlier Billy
29:57they're not going to have
29:58anybody left at this right
29:59and that is
30:00Jean-Denis Onana
30:02so we've had
30:03Onana
30:04Dipakem
30:05Kumbu
30:07all booked today
30:14and at three
30:15minutes to go
30:16and Onana
30:17that is another one
30:18who's going to be out
30:19of the next game.
30:20There are four players
30:21going to be out now
30:22looks as though
30:23Bell might get a game
30:24the goalkeeper
30:25as an outfield player.
30:27It's incredible
30:28that isn't it.
30:29It would be
30:30if they get through this
30:31as I'm sure
30:32they do
30:33it would be
30:34an incredible
30:35thing to have to do
30:36to replace four players.
30:38In the quarter finals as well
30:39against perhaps England.
30:42England or Belgium
30:43certainly awaits
30:44but it's not all over yet.
30:45Driven in
30:46and driven wide
30:48by Alvarez
30:51it's certainly not all over yet.
30:53Colombia
30:54have got to carry
30:55the assault
30:56to Cameroon
30:57and could you imagine
30:58a penalty shootout
30:59after all this.
31:02We had 105 minutes
31:03without a goal
31:04we've now had three
31:05in the second period
31:06of extra time
31:08and it's Cameroon's turn
31:09to hold on.
31:11That ball was kept in.
31:14Alvarez
31:15Valderrama
31:16Rincon was so tired
31:18he just did not have
31:19the legs
31:20to get there.
31:34One minute left.
31:36One minute between
31:37Cameroon
31:38and a place
31:39in the quarter finals
31:40of the World Cup.
31:42They really started
31:43the World Cup off
31:44with that amazing victory
31:45on the opening day
31:46in Milan
31:47against Argentina.
31:48The ball is going through
31:49to the goalkeeper
31:50no alarm.
31:52They then continued
31:53with a victory
31:54over Romania
31:552-1
31:56and a lot of people
31:57thought that
31:58they were going
31:59to win
32:00but they were wrong.
32:012-1
32:02and a lot of people
32:03thought that they would
32:04collapse after
32:05getting a bit of a hammering
32:064-0 by the Soviet Union
32:08but they've really
32:09shown their character
32:10to come here to Naples
32:12and take this lead
32:13against Colombia.
32:15It's the Cameroon supporters
32:16who are praying now
32:17for that final whistle though
32:19as Colombia come down
32:20the right with Herrera.
32:23They've got to be quick.
32:25Rincon
32:26the hero
32:27with a 92nd minute goal
32:28against West Germany
32:29loses it.
32:30There was no foul.
32:31The chance might be on
32:32for the break
32:33and who knows
32:34maybe even a third
32:35Cameroon goal
32:36he tried to chip Ighita.
32:39He won't be worried John
32:40the ball is behind the goal
32:41now and
32:42the referee's just got ready
32:43to blow his whistle.
32:47So genuine
32:48soccer drama
32:50the sort that has
32:51gripped people over the years
32:52and made their reputation.
