00:00My name is Will Keating-Jones and I'm the District Commander for Chichester and Arran,
00:04so that means I'm in charge of local policing for the area. Today we're here as a culmination
00:09of two separate policing operations, Operation Parkside and Operation Precinct, and both of
00:15those operations have the aim of reducing crime and antisocial behaviour, not only in the Barnum
00:21area but also in Chichester, Arran and the surrounds. We're here today on a multi-agency
00:28partnership working day to communicate and engage with members of the community,
00:33to talk about their experiences, their perception of crime and disorder in this area and to listen
00:39to any concerns they might have, and we're also here to engage with any members of the public
00:44that wish to come and speak to us, give us reports, tell us what's concerning them,
00:49tell us what we're doing well, tell us what we could be doing differently. The community are
00:52asking us to provide more policing presence to them, to listen to their concerns, to investigate
00:57crimes that they report, to attend if they do call us, and we are doing our utmost to absolutely
01:03comply with that request. So we can point to a number of positive outcomes in terms of
01:09thefts, shoplifting, crime and antisocial behaviour in the Barnum area. We have issued
01:15under Operation Precinct at least 20 community resolutions for various offences. We've engaged
01:22with a number of children and issued seven youth conditional cautions for theft and other criminal
01:28damage related offences. We've also taken at least four individuals through the criminal justice
01:33process all the way to court, and that was for up to 23 separate criminal offences. So I hope that
01:39shows the community that we are listening, we are looking to keep children and youth out of the
01:43criminal justice system wherever we can by offering other means of disposal, whether that be community
01:48resolutions, non-court disposals, but if there is no other option we will and we are not afraid to
01:54take individuals to court and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law if that is what
01:58the community wants and needs.
