00:00The month of September is for teachers.
00:02On the occasion of National Teachers Month,
00:04we give glory to the teachers
00:06who are tirelessly contributing their intelligence and time
00:09for our youth.
00:11Today, we are known and thankful
00:13to two outstanding teachers
00:15and content creators,
00:17Bea Manahan, or better known as Ma'am Bee
00:19and Jeric Maribao of Jeric's Channel.
00:22Happy Teachers Month to you.
00:24Thank you for joining us today.
00:26Thank you. Rise and shine.
00:29Thank you for joining us.
00:31As you know, we have a high opinion of our teachers
00:33because of the sacrifice that you give
00:35to your students.
00:37You have a lot of followers online.
00:39Ma'am Bee has 1.2 million followers on TikTok.
00:43Jeric's Channel has around 2 million followers on Facebook.
00:49You have helped a lot with your content.
00:51I wonder, what was your inspiration
00:55to become a teacher, Ma'am Bee?
00:58My parents are both public school teachers.
01:04I see.
01:06They were my inspiration and motivation
01:08for me to become like them.
01:11It runs in the family.
01:13What do you teach and where do you teach now?
01:17Now, I teach at President Serio Osmeña High School
01:21in Tondo, Manila.
01:23I teach Grade 12 students there,
01:27specifically social sciences subjects.
01:29What was your inspiration to become a teacher?
01:37My parents are not teachers.
01:42My inspiration comes from the saying
01:47you have to find the core purpose of your existence
01:51in this world.
01:53For me, being a teacher is to become
01:56a positive teacher.
01:58If you love what you do,
02:00if you put your heart in what you do,
02:02you can make a great difference.
02:04If you're very happy with what you're doing,
02:06then you're aware that you're making
02:08a great difference towards your pupils.
02:10That's true.
02:12Teachers can really change the lives
02:14of your students.
02:16Where do you teach, Sir?
02:18At Bonifacio Misamis Occidental.
02:20From Misamis Occidental?
02:22Yes.
02:24I'm a combination class teacher,
02:26Grade 5 and Grade 6.
02:28What is your teaching style
02:30when you're inside the classroom?
02:32I'm just a cool teacher.
02:36Cool teacher?
02:38I'm not that strict
02:40because the teachers I teach
02:42are mature adolescents,
02:44around 18 to 25 years old
02:46and a bit older.
02:48My style is
02:51to give them meaningful activities
02:53that they can use
02:55in their studies
02:57and in their future careers
02:59because they're already
03:01seniors in high school.
03:03What's your teaching style,
03:05Teacher Jeric?
03:07I'm a cool teacher.
03:09I'm a singing teacher.
03:11Singing teacher?
03:13Why?
03:15I believe that when you sing
03:17in front of your pupils,
03:20your song is related to the song.
03:22It will become LSS
03:24to the ears
03:26and the hearts.
03:28It's easier to remember.
03:30And when you sing it,
03:32especially if you contextualize
03:34the lesson,
03:36it becomes memorable.
03:38So maybe while they're quizzing,
03:40they're humming.
03:42That's what Teacher Jeric taught me.
03:44You're also a content creator.
03:46You're helping a lot
03:49with your content online.
03:51Tell us about that experience.
03:53You're using social media as a platform
03:55to also teach and inspire others.
03:57Actually,
03:59it's just an accident
04:01that I became a social media content creator.
04:03It started in TikTok
04:05in 2020
04:07during the pandemic.
04:09Everybody was at home
04:11and doing nothing.
04:13And the students
04:15didn't want to study
04:18in a regular or online setting.
04:20So what I did as a teacher
04:22was to encourage them
04:24to study
04:26no matter what happens.
04:28Even if there's a pandemic,
04:30we should continue to study
04:32no matter what the situation is.
04:34Because studying is important.
04:36And during the pandemic,
04:38let's not waste
04:40the time
04:42and the opportunity
04:44no matter what happens.
04:46Let's continue to study.
04:48Teacher Jeric,
04:50how did you start?
04:52It started from the pandemic
04:54during the limited face-to-face.
04:56Because a lot of kids
04:58don't want to go to school
05:00because they already have jobs.
05:02For them,
05:04the modular distance is effective.
05:06But they're unaware
05:08that it's not effective.
05:10So for me,
05:12to motivate them
05:15to go to school,
05:17I give them free breakfast.
05:19Wow!
05:21Can I sit here?
05:23Okay, so there's free breakfast.
05:27I lend money from the bank
05:29to sustain my feeding activity.
05:31And now, with God's grace,
05:33I am able to sustain it
05:35for almost 3 years.
05:37I feed them every day.
05:39I wake up at 3am in the morning
05:41just to cook breakfast for my pupils.
05:44Now, I am very confident
05:46that when they grow up,
05:48they become influencers too
05:50in the future.
05:52Kids nowadays are more on gadgets.
05:54It's good to use
05:56in a good way.
05:58Ma'am Bee, you are also a mom.
06:00How many kids do you have?
06:02Three.
06:04My two kids
06:06are 21 and 22 years old.
06:08And my youngest
06:10is 17.
06:13So my kids are grown up.
06:15How did you manage
06:17to become a teacher?
06:19And also, of course, as a mom to your children.
06:21Actually, I became a teacher
06:23late. I became a teacher
06:25when I was 30 years old.
06:27I never dreamed of becoming a teacher
06:29but my parents
06:31motivated me and convinced me
06:33that when my kids grew up,
06:35I became a housewife
06:37when I was 10 years old.
06:39So when my kids grew up,
06:42I had a second career
06:44which is teaching.
06:46That's why it wasn't hard for me
06:48to balance my career
06:50and being a mom
06:52because my first priority
06:54is my family.
06:56But now that they are grown up,
06:58my treatment
07:00for my kids
07:02who are teenagers
07:04and my students,
07:06I just handled them with care
07:08and I am sensitive
07:10to their needs.
07:12I just support them.
07:14And also, I always instill
07:16proper discipline.
07:18I tell them to study well.
07:20That's all.
07:22So you have more children to take care of?
07:24Yes, more.
07:26That's why I am used to
07:28handling kids
07:30because I am also a mom.
07:32Teacher Jeric, you also posted online
07:34that you will be having
07:36an operation.
07:38I am also worried about you.
07:40Tell us about that.
07:42I just had an operation last June
07:442019.
07:46It was called a corneal
07:48transplant because I had
07:50a leucoma.
07:52At the same time, I also had a cataract
07:54which I got from the environment
07:56when I was 10 years old.
07:58So now,
08:00after the operation,
08:02the pressure in my eyes increased
08:04so it reddened.
08:06I am here in Manila
08:08because I have a check-up.
08:12Next month, I will have an operation.
08:14Two procedures at the same time.
08:16Of course, we pray
08:18that your operation will be successful.
08:20And for sure, all of your students
08:22and colleagues are also praying
08:24for you.
08:26I want to know, what's the best thing about
08:28being a teacher?
08:30The best thing about being a teacher
08:32is you get to inspire
08:34more people.
08:36You're an instrument of shaping
08:38their future.
08:40There are a lot of parents
08:42who
08:44don't
08:46ignore
08:48their responsibilities.
08:50But the teachers are the role models
08:52of good moral values.
08:54And we are there to support
08:56their dreams. So it's an instrument
08:58of
09:00shaping a good future.
09:02We were inspired
09:04by doctors
09:06and other professions
09:08around the world.
09:10That is why we are called
09:12heroes of learning.
09:14You've been a teacher for how many years?
09:16I've been teaching for 6 years.
09:18How many years have you been teaching?
09:20You started at 30 years old.
09:2212 years.
09:24What's the best thing
09:26about being a teacher?
09:28Looking back,
09:30we've been
09:32influencers for a long time.
09:34We influence
09:36young people.
09:38We influence people
09:40through education.
09:44We don't only
09:46teach, but we educate
09:48them.
09:52We don't teach
09:54only academics
09:56and skills, but we prepare
09:58them for life.
10:00When I look back at my teachers
10:02in elementary and high school, I'm so thankful
10:04to them. We wouldn't be here
10:06if it wasn't for
10:08our teachers.
10:10Please greet your
10:12classmates.
10:14Ladies first.
10:16Rise and shine!
10:18To my classmates in President
10:20Osmeña Senior High School,
